Through the author’s use of vivid imagery, the story and its characters came to life in my mind’s eye. The premise of the story was well executed and believable, the events as they unfolded, where realistic and attention grabbing. The details of the tragedy that brought Lucas and India together were done so meticulously that they drew you through the story seamlessly. This has been the perfect ending to a warm and charming series.

A story meant to show that love conquers even our darkest secrets, A Soldier's Homecoming is a great book to read over a rainy weekend. Lucas and India are believable characters and the town of Glacier Creek makes me want to travel there again very soon. A sweet romance with mystery woven throughout...

India Gale is hiding out in the house she received as settlement for a car accident that almost killed her and left the driver dead. Lucas seeks out the mystery woman who was in the car with his stepfather when he had a fatal car accident. When he sees her she seems nothing like the gold digger his mother has portrayed her as. He can't imagine that she would be the kind of woman to be having an affair with his stepfather. Can Lucas get to know India better with out betraying his mother's trust? Will India relax around him long enough to tell him her version of the accident? Nice, sweet small town feel to this story.

This just didn't work for me I'm afraid. I couldn't engage with either of the main characters and the plot didn't hold my interest. I have read book by Foley in the past and enjoyed them but not on this occasion.

A Soldier´s Homecoming by Karen Foley is book 3 in the "Glacier Creek" series. I just love the town of Glacier Creek and the characters that surrounds it. It´s such a great story and you just can´t help fall in love with the main characters and the story line. It has purpose and meaning and who don´t love a great romance story.

"A Soldier's Homecoming" (Glacier Creek Book 3) by Karen Foley is a great read. I enjoyed Lucas and India's story. This was the first time I've read any work by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more. I can't wait to see what happens next in this series. This story has military veterans, romance, passion, family, overcoming tragic events, second chances, and more. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, second chances, and series.

This book features the classic enemies to lovers romance trope that we all enjoy reading because as they say there’s a fine line between love and hate and at first these two characters definitely don’t like each other. Lucas is a good guy who has been put in the position of finding dirt on India. Little does he know that she’s the victim in this story. Their budding relationship and the slow revelation of what really happened on the tragic night that brought these two characters together is guaranteed to change them both forever. This is great storytelling combined with sympathetic characters and a mystery that slowly unfolds in a way that kept me intrigued, entertained and hoping for a happily-ever-after and I wasn’t disappointed. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in this series I’ve read and both were 5 star books. I enjoyed that both India and Lucas had secrets. It made the book into a suspenseful romance. We learn that India was in a terrible auto accident that killed Lucas’ stepfather but she couldn’t remember the details or why they were in the car. Lucas’ mother asked him to meet her and ascertain what had been going on as she thought they were having an affair. India had received a $50 milliopayout and a $20 million dollar home in Claire Creek Montana as her settlement. This angered Lucas’ mom. They didn’t know India was badly injured and left with shrapnel in her brain that was told to be inoperable. Lucas and India had been dating and both of them were keeping secrets. This was so compelling to keep reading. I loved the story.

Shortly after beginning this book, I discovered A Soldier’s Homecoming belongs to a series, of which, book one I didn’t like. In my review for book one I declared I wouldn’t continue to read the series. Oops. But I checked (read: lowered) my expectations and give it a try anyway!

The premise of this book sounded really good: dutiful son tracks down a young woman -who was mysteriously a passenger in the car when his stepfather was killed and subsequently absconded with $50 million and a multi-million dollar house in Montana - to find out (for his mother) what the relationship was between the stepfather and woman. Of course, whereas he’s expecting to find a cold, calculating, manipulative woman, instead he finds one who is quiet, kind, and a bit skittish. As he gets to know her, he begins to believe nothing untoward was between her and his step-father, and also falls in love. But before he can come clean with her about who he really is, the cat is let out of the bag. He feels terrible, realizes he loves her, but when he goes to apologize finds out she’s in the hospital and could die. You can probably figure out the rest…

This book could have been so good, but failed in the execution for several reason.

First, I’m not impressed with exaggerations, like saying a person is so wealthy their net worth could probably settle the national debt (which is currently over $21 trillion). No one is that wealthy, and being so over-the-top just makes me roll my eyes.

Additional things that I’ve picked apart...India apparently has a piece of shrapnel in her brain as a result of the car accident she was in. Shrapnel is a piece of a bullet, or the things that become projectiles after a bomb. I know the car exploded after the crash, but saying she has a piece of shrapnel in her just rubbed me wrong - especially since the hero of the story had actually been in the Middle East and lost part of his team to an actual bomb.

There’s also numerous instances of re-explaining things. Who people are, what the hero did with the money he inherited from his father, and my all-time favorite repetitive writing: how hawt the hero is. More plot, less pecs is my mantra.

And finally, the title. Montana is not the soldier's hometown. It's a place he vacationed growing up. This title might have worked if he spent a good deal of the book lamenting how he didn't know where he belonged in this world now that he was no longer a soldier and now that he's met the heroine he's "home" - but there was none of that. In fact, I'd almost say this book was more about the heroine and where her future is headed, and less about the hero. The title makes no sense to me whatsoever now that I've read the book.

So yeah, my initial opinion of this author’s writing wasn’t changed in the least. I did manage to get through the whole book, but only by skimming from 30 percent until the end. I will say the author does a very good job with dialogue - those were the parts I definitely read. But the rest of the words just didn’t impress me. So I’ve got another author that I’m adding to my “I’m Done With This Author” list. Which makes two this week.

😬

(PS that makes three total for this list…)

I so enjoyed this story. India has arrived in Glacier Creek after a horrific accident but has a wonderful house from the settlement. Lucas Talbot has also arrived for a wedding of his former Special Ops buddy. He has one thing on his mind to find out why India was with his step father, whom was killed in the accident. Lucas is also hiding his own secrets from his friends.

Loved the chemistry between India and Lucas. Lucas would not give up on India. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I am loving this series.

Fingers turn those pages, Lucas thinks he needs to know why India was in that sports car with his step father the night of the terrible accident, well I’m just so curious I can’t read fast enough. And oh how I’m hoping his trying to find out doesn’t blow up and ruin his chances with her.
An enjoyable read. I have read this author before, her book A Hummingbird Christmas was right up there with my favorite Christmas love stories.

I’ve really enjoyed A Soldier’s Homecoming, book three in the multi-author Glacier Creek series. Set in the tiny town of Glacier Creek Montana, this story brings together former soldier Lucas Talbot and India Gale, former creative director of Brazen magazine.
India has spent two months in a coma following a fatal car crash in which she was severely injured while Lucas’ stepfather Martin Howden. She has no memory of the crash nor of period leading up to it, and no idea what she was doing in the car with Martin. She also has a piece of shrapnel in her skull and is at risk of dying if it slips. With all this weighing on her, it’s no wonder she is reluctant to become involved with Lucas, even if she is drawn to him immediately.
Lucas has been searching for India since the crash, trying to get answers for his mother as to what she was doing in the car with his stepfather. When he meets India the attraction is instant. She seems nothing like the money-grabber his mother has described, and he is troubled by guilt over hiding his real identity.
With guilt playing on both India and Lucas, there is constant push and pull between them as their relationship grows. Karen Foley has done a good job of building the tension throughout, making this story a page turner throughout. There were times at the end where some of the issues were tied up a little bit too neatly, but overall this really has been a lovely story to read.

Anger and hurt bring Lucas Talbot to Glacier Creek to investigate and spy on the woman that was in the car with his stepfather the night he crashed. Driven by a relentless and bitter mother, he seeks out India Cordoza, that very woman. Little does he know but she suffers from the accident and no 50 million dollar, house in the mountains was what she wanted.
As they fall deeper and deeper into something bigger than his anger and her sadness and fear, the truth looms heavy in the distance and becomes a burden neither can bear. The truth will likely destroy their developing love but hiding it would definitely do that.

A Soldier’s Homecoming is one of those stories where you’d simply love to be able to tell a character to just “shut up already”. Not the lead-in you were expecting, right? There are times when a secondary character’s bad behavior will try to take over the story on me… and that’s exactly what Lucas’ mother did… often. Lucas is out to discover why a beautiful young woman was with his step-father the night he died in a violent car crash. And why in the would she was awarded such a huge settlement as well. His mother has her own ideas, and her own agenda in tracking down India and getting the truth from her. Right now, all Lucas wants to do is get his mother to shut up so he can get on with this task and be done with it. He might be former Special Ops, but now he simply wanted peace – and he wasn’t about to find that until he got answers, any way he had to resort to in finding the truth. What he discovered was the last thing he expected.

All India is looking for right now is peace. The constant running from the cameras, the reporters, the long road to recovery, the still healing injuries, and the nightmares that will not allow her any rest are all she knows right now. She has no clear memory of that night, of the accident that changed lives forever. Oh, it’s buried somewhere in her mind, yet the only way she seems able to access that knowledge is through the nightmares that fade like wisps when she awakens. Nightmares, a life long, life affecting injury and a very large insurance settlement – that’s all she’s taken away from that night. She’s come to Glacier Creek to hide, to find herself, and hopefully to heal as well. She wasn’t expecting the attraction for Lucas or that he seemed to just as quickly want to be with her. She could be herself, she could hope for the future and maybe she could trust in this man who turned her life upside down in a good way.

Or maybe she could lose everything she thought she’d gained because of one lie, one omission of truth. Lucas held back one important piece of information from her, and in doing so has destroyed her all over again. How can she trust him again, no matter his “reasons”.

India and Lucas’ story is full of intrigue, heartache, frustration and hope. It’s obvious that they love each other, yet one vital bit of information was held onto for just long enough to cause major trouble. Their romance is full of potholes, but while the road to a happy ending is not always smooth two people who belong together will make that ending a reality. I enjoyed A Soldier’s Homecoming and would recommend it to any Contemporary Romance reader who enjoys a mystery, believable characters, a nasty person to be dealt with and a happy ending eventually.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Lucas Talbot is home from the Army and is now in Montana looking into a woman named India Gale. India’s life has been turned upside down because of a car accident and she is in Montana hiding out from her old life. Lucas who has friends in the town that they are in is wanting to find out more about her but is also finding that he is falling for her. They both hold secrets but the ones that Lucas has can destroy any hope of a relationship if they come to light, especially if they are told by someone else and not him. This is a good story with good characters and full of hope.

A Soldier's Homecoming, book three in the Glacier Creek series. Karen Foley knows how to write a great story. I've enjoyed the characters in this this book and the character development and dialogue is perfect for the storyline. I've enjoyed the other books in this series just as much and hope there will be more to come.

This is an enjoyable sweet small town romance. It's the third book in the Glacier Creek series but other than some past characters popping up here and there it is completely standalone. In this book we meet India Gale, a young woman who finds herself in Glacier Creek hiding away from the paparazzi after she is in an accident that left a man dead and her with a huge settlement including a house in Glacier Creek. All she wants is a little peace and some time to decide how to move forward with her life. Then there is Lucas Talbot who returns to Glacier Creek to check out India. She was involved in the accident that not only took his stepfather's life but also a huge payout from the family. Is India the gold digger his mother claims that she is or is she the incredible woman he comes to know?

This is a good clean read that I think everyone will enjoy.

Fourth in the Glacier Creek Series, A Soldier's Homecoming by Karen Foley has only minor ties to the other books in the series. If new to the series this reads well as a stand-alone but also introduces several of the characters from past books. It may cause you to want out check out their stories.

For India, this is her first visit to Glacier Creek which she has come to complete her recovery after a tragic accident. The accident almost killed her and caused her to become the subject of tabloid journalists. Lucas Talbot, former military, returns to Glacier Creek where he often visited as a child to find out the real story of the accident. Both have secrets that nearly destroy any hope of a true relationship between them. I liked them both but found their families could be challenging. It is a story of instant attraction but also of misconceptions, forgiveness and recovery.

The plot is interesting but unevenly paced. It seemed that the honesty was long in coming, with parts of the story moving slowly, but the romance moved fast for two untrusting people, with the finished being quickly tied together. Still it is an enjoyable story for a relaxing afternoon read.

“A Soldier’s Homecoming”, by Karen Foley, is a well written romance novel that I’ve read in one setting. It was an effortless and enjoyable read (aside the sex scenes, I’ve skipped most of them), with a handsome hero and a wounded heroine.
Lucas’ deception and duplicity is understandable, but a bit hard to accept. To avoid making the male character unsympathetic, the author tackles his moral dilemmas showing his guilty conscience and remorse.
I liked the easy flow of the narrative, the writing style, the characters, the setting; and in the end I was left hoping that the author will write more stories inspired in the newfound residential treatment center.
