I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Jemmy and Elizabeth met at an house party and had a heated meeting with consequences. These two have to fight a ton of obstacles in order to be together. I did admire how hard they fought to try to be together. I did enjoy the story it was well done.

This was my first Janna Jaxon book and it was a goodie!> Now I have to go back and read the ones that came before this in the series. Delightful characters, pretty steamy, and a good plotline.

Wedding the Widow was a delightful romance featuring a couple who must overcome all odds if they’re to be together.

Out of all of her widowed friends, Elizabeth Easton was the only one who had a good marriage and is still devoted to the memory of her husband. Elizabeth doesn’t believe she’ll remarry and certainly never expects to fall in love again. So when she meets Jemmy, Lord Brack, while she is attracted to him she believes that is all it is. When Elizabeth and Jemmy do fall in love and wish to marry they face some unexpected obstacles on the way to their happily ever after.

Elizabeth is still grieving the loss of her husband and is very focused on healing and providing a good life for her children. She had a fairy tale marriage once and doesn’t think having it a second time is in the cards for her. I admired how dedicated she still was to her husband as he’d been gone only a year. It was nice to read about a heroine who is a widow that had a happy marriage as opposed to a bad one as that’s not something you see too often.

James, or Jemmy as he prefers to be called, never gave much thought to marriage despite being the heir to his father’s title. After coming of age he spent his time traveling and after ten years away he only recently returned to London. Jemmy and his sister Georgie, one of the other widows, have a great sibling relationship and I enjoyed when they got to spend time together, something they have difficulty doing as their father cut Georgie off for following her heart and marrying for love.

Elizabeth and Jemmy’s relationship is at first very much based on the lust they feel for each other. I did enjoy watching them fall for each other but was surprised by how quickly it happened, especially on Jemmy’s side. Elizabeth’s reluctance to enter into a relationship with Jemmy felt real as she did still love her husband as he’d only been gone just over a year and they had a good marriage. I liked how understanding Jemmy was of that and that he didn’t want to diminish her love of her first husband in any way. The physical relationship between Elizabeth and Jemmy was very well done although I wish there had been more scenes.

I enjoyed seeing all of the widows together again as they have a fantastic friendship and are so supportive of one another. Georgie continues to be one of my favorite side characters and I can’t wait for her to eventually get her own book. Unfortunately I didn’t love the other side characters, namely Elizabeth and Jemmy’s parents. The parents are so incredibly unsupportive and look out only for themselves. The reason for the families being opposed to the match was interesting though but I felt it was drug out too long.

Wedding the Widow was a quick read with just a bit too much drama for my taste but it was still enjoyable overall. I’d recommend this series if you’re a fan of the widow finding love again in your historical romances.

While it was not as good as number one in the series this was still a nice addition. I enjoyed this book with its characters and plot line. It felt a little drawn out but all in all it was a light read that made me buy both in the series. So buy them both and sit and enjoy them. The author has a wonderful way of story telling. I had a hard time finishing the story of Jemmy and Elizabeth. I never could tell what made the heroine go from being in lust to being in love with Jemmy. In fact, it took me as much by surprise as it did the characters in the book. I also thought the conflict was over the top, not realistic and too easily rectified.

This is the second book in the series. You don't have to read the first book to enjoy this one. Some people can really hold a grudge and demand total control. What an ordeal to finally be married but have everything going against you. Enjoyable characters and an entertaining Historical Romance.

My Thoughts:
Although I enjoyed the first book in this series this one didn't grab my attention as much.
The hero is great and very likable; the heroine not so much. There is maybe too much conflict between the two and although the attitude of the heroine is understandable she just put this reader off.
Although they each can be read as standalone titles it is maybe better if read in order so you do not become lost.
I gave this book 3.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 2.75 of 5.0 flames. Intimacy is not the main point of this book.

Let me begin by saying that although book number one introduces the characters (especially the widows), and this book references some of the happenings from the prior novel, you do not need to have read it in order for this one to make sense.

In fact, I rather enjoyed the first novel more than this one, and that is a shame considering how much I usually enjoy this author and her stories.

However, this story was such a mess that it was at times hard to get through. The sheer amount of obstacles thrown at this couple was ludicrous, and frankly downright boring at times. We get it, his father holds a grudge for reasons I cannot explain without giving away spoilers. However, the lengths he goes to (kidnapping, forced imprisonment, arranged marriages, blackmail) seemed a bit too extreme ESPECIALLY when he finally gives his blessing for the smallest and stupidest condition ever.

Don't get me wrong, parts of this story were good. And others seemed like words on the page to increase the overall word count. I also had trouble fathoming how Elizabeth could spend such a great deal of time away from her six year old twins when they were all she had left of her late husband. These were her children, and she had no qualms leaving them for days or weeks at a time. Instead of the ridiculousness of having their nuptials denied and thwarted so many times, I would have instead rather have read about how Jemmy won the affections of her children (especially Colin who was so against his mother re-marrying in the first place).

I do think this story may still appeal to fans of historical romances, and I would read more from this author.

Wedding the Widow by Jenna Jaxon is book Two in The Widow's Club. This is the story of Elizabeth Easton and James 'Jemmy', Lord Brack. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Elizabeth has been a widow for about a year and still feels the loss of her husband. But she meets Jemmy who she started to desire and he to her. Although Jemmy just returned from service thinking nothing of marrying starts to grow strong feelings for Elizabeth...but can he get her to start thinking in the lines of something more between them?
Enjoyed reading their story!

Wow, this is one story fraught with trouble. Elizabeth Easton is a widow and has been for more than a year. She has a set of twins, whom she adores. At a house party, she meets Lord Brack, Jemmy. They go to some functions together until the Harvest Festival, the atmosphere is very sensual and they end up in bed. She travels back to London after she calls him by her dead husband's name. Jemmy chases after her to London but she does not want to see him. Their trouble soon begins and boy what a frustration.
The characters were lovely, they mesh with the other characters very well. The story is interesting and you do root for the main characters, so much stands in their way. There are other widows and they are all friends. I recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

An extended house party gives the opportunity for Lord Brack, Jemmy, to pursue the widow, Elizabeth Easton. Passion took them both by surprise, eventually necessitating marriage. Only Lord Brack finds himself in dire straights when his father refuses his consent and threatens to cut off his funds.
Less obstacles and a stronger heroine who could say "NO," would have been my preference.

At the Harvest Festival Elizabeth and Lord Brack seem overcome by lust, do the deed and then she tosses him out of her room. Why? She is still grieving, sort of, for her deceased husband. She spends time grieving and angsting and such as he wishes he could be with her. When she realizes she is in the family way and he finds out they realize they love one another but there is one big blockade to them finding happiness…his father. As the story unfolds we learn of why Jemmy’s father is against the marriage and how the two end up having a HEA.

I found that Jemmy seemed immature at times as did Elizabeth and I found that I had trouble relating to them and why they were attracted to one another. This is a rather predictable historical romance with a couple that do end up together and yet at the end I was more interested in finding out about Jemmy’s sister and other widows than the fate of this couple.

Having suffered years in the war himself, he is only looking to remain carefree. But when he meets Elizabeth, all those thoughts quickly leave his mind. A mutual attraction erupts and Jemmy wants to marry the beautiful widow but she does not even want to consider his proposal.
Can he change her mind? As things progress there are a few twist and turns that kept the story entertaining. Looking forward to the next installment in this delightful series.

Determined to prove his love to Elizabeth, Jemmy goes to London and seeing her at a dance, promises her his love and asks for a chance with her. It so happens there is yet another reason they do need to marry. They do love one another but it appears that very few people support their wanting to marry. Every time they turn around, they face yet another roadblock. Will they ever find a way to be together to share their love?

This is a good book. It truly is unreal how often they are foiled in their attempts to marry. I think readers will enjoy this story as the tension builds and you find yourself cheering for them.

I didn't read the first book in this series so I was quite lost with the relationship between James "Jemmy," Lord Brack and Mrs. Elizabeth Easton. This beginning of the book doesn't explain much of their previous encounters. I felt like I missed some important factors into each of their's current state of mind. Elizabeth spent so much time mourning her deceased husband that I was surprised when they fell into bed together so quickly at the beginning of the book. I also thought that Jemmy's father was just so outlandish in his threats. Perhaps there are men like that, but I didn't enjoy his machinations at all.

There are lots of twists and turns in this book and I did read until the end just to see how everything was resolved. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of my favorite books.

The second in the series, Wedding the Widow jumped right into the action. Unfortunately, it can leave the reader a bit lost. More is explained at the story goes on, but not much. While it’s not necessary to read the first novel to enjoy this one, the addition information would benefit the reader.

The story has other issues, however. Despite the hero being attentive, patient, and everything a hero should be, the heroine is hardly tolerable much less likable. While her emotions yoyo throughout the story, it feels like she is only harming the hero in her indecisiveness and inability to let her late husband go.

The story itself is also stuff full with action. While that may sound like a good thing, the story ends up coming off as saturated and overdramatic. There is just too much going on to the point that it’s laughable with scenarios and villians that feel like parodies and caricatures than plausible.

The story as whole held promise, but the issues overrode any interesting plot and characters. The writer has an easy style that will have the reader flying through the pages as well as having many characters with depth that felt authentic.

Lord “Jemmy” has met a lovely and virtuous widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Easton, at a house party outside of London. I am really enjoying author Jenna Jaxon's THE WIDOW'S CLUB series. I love the concept of war widows getting a second chance at love. These women truly deserve it. WEDDING THE WIDOW is the second installment and is widow, Elizabeth, and Jemmy's story. It is clear that Jemmy and Elizabeth share a special connection. Jemmy is a man after my own heart. He already knows what he wants and won't let anything stand in his way. Elizabeth is strong and smart. She just has to let her past go in order to have a much-deserved future. Elizabeth will always love her first husband, Dickon, but comes to realize that if love comes around a second time, it isn't wrong to take it.
