3.25/5. Read this back in 2018 and did not review it back then. I don't remember enough about it to give it proper feedback.
Definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a tidy and concise introduction to tarot. I really appreciated the streamlined and quick to the point explanations of each card's possible meanings. The author does lean a bit on a kind of literal (this card in the context of home could mean its time to garden!) application rather than an internal, emotional-psychological exploration. I don't even mean it as a criticism, more just a heads up depending on what interpretative style someone brings to tarot.
The Tarot Companion is a great book for beginners. The cards are beautifully illustrated and described. It is very well organized so you can easily go back to see the information you need.
You know those books that you know you have read but you can't remember anything about them? I feel like this about The Tarot Companion. So I guess there was no eye opening information for me in it (because then I would remember that info) but it wasn't cringe worthy as well? Because then I would remember getting worked up over stuff. So. Maybe try it if you're totally new to tarot. Totally-totally I guess?
A great choice for beginning tarot users! I liked the illustrations of the cards and the very detailed meanings and interpretations.
This is a great introduction to reading tarot cards. Each card is illustrated beautifully and the explanations give you a deeper insight in the use of tarot cards and their meaning. The author first explains how to do tarot spreads, how to cleanse your cards and what upright card pulls mean. She continues with diving deeper into the meaning of all of them, like the major and minor arcana.
If you are looking to learn more about tarot and don't know where to start, then this book is the perfect starting point for you.
Great guide for those interested in reading tarot cards, very complete. Tarot cards can be not that easy to read but this book help a lot with the meanings :).
This is a great resource for a tarot reader who is just learning the craft, but also for an intermediate reader to help refresh their knowledge. Each card in the classic tarot deck is covered in a simple to understand, but still through way. There are only a few tarot spreads and the descriptions of the cards stick to the classic interpretations so if you are looking for a book to give you new inspiration for your tarot reading through modern twists on the cards or creative, unique spreads this is not the book for you. That said I know that I personally would refer to this book a lot as in intermediate reader who has experience with tarot already in refresh myself in between readings and reconnect with my practice. A well written, easy to use tool for any tarot reader.
As a tarot reader myself, I quite enjoyed this companion, especially because it is a companion. You could easily put it into your pocket alongside your cards.
It is a good reference book, especially if you haven't been reading the cards for long and need a little help with the interpretation of the Major and Minor Arcana in a certain layout.
Great guide and handy reference to the tarot for beginners. Concise but meaningful, with richly colored illustrations.
This was super cool and informative! I haven't really thought of doing much research on tarot before but this gave me a lot of the foundational information that I needed.
Clear, concise, and insightful. Definitely recommend this title for anyone looking to delve further into the world of tarot readings!
I was unable to read the book because I could not open the PDF file. I tried multiple times and ways and it didn't work. Thank you for the chance to read it.
I have always been interested in tarot cards; I have a fascination with how people use their spirituality. I have always wanted to know the whys and how of the practice. The Tarot Companion doesn't really give much background on the history and why tarot cards work. But it's a lovely walk through the Arcana and what the cards mean. I really enjoyed that because tarot often shows up in movies and video games so now UI understand more about the Persona games.
While this is a great reference for getting started, I am going to continue to my research on the history of the process.
If you have a copy of Liz Dean's earlier book, The Ultimate Tarot Guide, you don't need this one as well. However, if you want to chose between the two, I recommend this one. This book keeps things simpler. Gone are the references to numerology, zodiac signs, and color schemes. Card meanings are confusing enough for beginners without all that added noise. With the quick reference guide, meanings of cards are easy to locate. However, there's very little information beyond the meaning of each card. Very few spreads. Honestly, given the quality of the spreads in her Ultimate Tarot Guide, this is a good thing. Dean's style is a bit too modern for me; I suspect she subscribes to the idea that Tarot should always be positive and uplifting, which I don't agree with at all. If you want an on-hands reference book, this is a good one, but don't use it as your only source of information.

A good introduction book about Tarot including historical facts and techniques to read the tarot. The book is well explained and the instructions are easy to follow with helpful illustrations.
Very easy and quick to get through. Also quick to the point, no extra stuff. Good to take along with you. It can be a good introduction book.

This book is the perfect companion to those interested in learning how to read tarot cards. I personally have no knowledge about tarot cards and found the book interesting. It was well organized with lovely illustrations of each card. It explained the meaning of each card as it might relate to a person. It is very thorough going over every card. Since I have no experience with tarot reading it intrigues me to want to learn more about it.
Clearly, this book isn’t for everyone. It’s a great start for those spiritually inclined and wanting to learn without having to “dive in”.
Nice detail for anyone who is interested or even already schooled in tarot reading. More detailed than any books I have read on the subject! Easy to use yet very comprehensive. "Key meanings" assist in gaining quick access to information!!!
RECOMMEND!
Many thanks to both the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to view this book!
