An excellent introduction to Mitch Horowitz who is easily one of the most important contemporary writers on esosterica and the occult. Keeping the tradition alive and breathing new life into it at the same time.
I was disappointed with this book. I was expecting exercises, tools and new ideas but got the history of the new thought movement. The book was hard to follow based on the writing style. I could only read a few chapters before stopping because it was not what I expected
An interesting book from an author who is really passionate about his subject. The only thing readers must remember is that this is the authors own opinion and analysis of the classic books he reviews. I think it is a brilliant starting point for doing your own thinking and coming to your own conclusions. This is a book with a difference and anything that invites you to think more is much needed in the world. Lots of excellent observations, points, and exercises for self development. Thank you
This book was not for me.
From the blurb I was expecting exercises and tools I could use to implement New Thought ideas. However what I found was a history of the New Thought movement and discussion of its founders, key members and the personal experiences of the author. I found the text difficult to read, it felt like a personal development book from the early 1900s, so maybe the exercises and tools were there but I didn't see them as they were embedded in the text.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an e-arc copy of this book.
