Really great reference for those new to the natural world and those advanced. Great reference for the family.
There is a TON of information in this book, with the scientific background to back it up. I read the electronic version, but will be buying a paper copy, as well. As we enter cold and flu season, this book will probably be useful!
As a proponent of natural. healing I was thrilled to receive this book for review. I do not believe in Western Medicine and find that plants and herbs offer all the healing we need if only we were more educated to the process .
This book is a definitive guide to natural healing. It is a key to learning how to treat illness naturally. This is not just another book with pretty photos telling you how to use essential oils. This is a amazing well researched excellent presentation of information of both herbs and essential oil use in healing.
This book explains how to use medicinal herbs and essential oils to fight infectious illness, strengthen the immune system, and build needed antibiotic resistance. Here are 18 of the most potent antibiotic and antiviral herbs detailing how to use them and what illnesses to treat. Any layperson new to the process can follow along and learn a wealth of information here. This is well done, easy to follow and a amazing amount of essential information.
I highly recommend this book for all who seek a healthy lifestyle of healing with herbs and essential oils.
Thanks to Healing Arts Press and the author for the opportunity to review for ARC. My opinions expressed are my own.
Doctors are prescribing antibiotics much more frequently, which is leading to people becoming immune to them. This book offers guidance on how to utilize natural antibiotics or antivirals in place of the prescriptions that are typically used. I had no idea that there were so many different alternatives to antibiotics and will definitely be using this guide next time I need one.
As someone that strongly dislikes taking antibiotics from the doctor I thoroughly appreciated reading this. So many tips and tricks with information I never knew. I wish I had this by my side during my awful acne days. Definitely a book you want by your side if you like natural remedies.
Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals" talked about the history of natural and pharmaceutical antibiotics, what germs are and how your immune system fights them, and 18 natural antibiotics and how to use them to treat 50 common illnesses.
I would also advice to be careful if you want to try anything in this book, always ask your doctor first.
This book compiles different plants that are useful as antivirals and antibiotics, . There are different ailments listed
and the directions on how to treat them are also listed.
If you are looking for a holistic approach to treating diseases then this book is for you. just ask your doc first
"Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals" talked about the history of natural and pharmaceutical antibiotics, what germs are and how your immune system fights them, and 18 natural antibiotics and how to use them to treat 50 common illnesses.
The author did a good job of explaining complex biological processes (the immune system, etc.) at a level that I think most adults can understand. Some scientific terms were used, though. The author explained how the essential oils, mother tinctures, etc., work to support your body, stop the germs, and not harm the beneficial bacteria. He also talked about detoxing and things you can do to support your beneficial microbiome. Overall, I felt that this was an informative and useful guide.
He talked about the essential oils of basil, English lavender, eucalyptus, niaouli, oregano, palmrosa, ravintsara, savory, tea tree, and thyme. He talked about the mother tinctures of bearberry, burdock, common barberry, mouse-ear hawkweed, and purple coneflower. Also, grapefruit seed extract, lapacho, and bee propolis.
"Do you want to destroy your microflora?" My Midwife exclaimed when she heard me mention I had received a prescription for antibiotics for a cold that I was intending to fill after our appointment.
"My what?" I placed my hands in front of my chest to shield myself from some unknown invader.
"Microflora. Oh, honey, let me take you on a journey." My Midwife began.
...And that is how I began to learn about good vs bad germs of the immune system.
In Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals, Vasey does an excellent job not only explaining the importance of healthy microbes in the human body but he provide us with an important historical timeline of how society has abused antibiotics, wrecked havoc on immune systems and what we can do to try to remedy this by turning to a more natural approach using high quality herbs and essential oils, when applicable.
My only complaint is that I wish there had been a Kindle version available because I would love to be able to easily refer to this when needed.
A surprisingly scientific look at essential oils and herbal treatments for bacterial, viral, and fungal complaints. This will be popular at my library, where we get frequent requests for natural or alternative treatment materials.
Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals is a very informative book. It has lots of information on all you need to know about treating yourself naturally.
This is an incredibly thorough guide to understanding the workings of germs, diseases, our immune systems and how natural remedies can help heal whereas allopathic medicine and the overuse of antibiotics is causing resistence and superbugs. I wasn’t expecting the book to be so in depth! I have learned a ton on new information. Before reading this book, I was already an avid essential oil user. I saw firsthand how tea tree and eucalyptus oils healed my cold sores faster than abreva. This book really dives into the historic use of natural remedies. It has profiles of several essential oils (lavendar, eucalyptus, tea tree, basil, ravintsara, thyme, oregano, palmarosa, naiouli and savory), information on tinctures, propolis, extracts, and remedies for treating 50 common infections like acne, herpes, bronchitis and sinusitis. Great reference book!
I found this book really interesting and will be able to use it over and over again. As I love growing Herbs it's full of useful information that I needed. Easy to understand and a joy to own.
Thank you NetGalley.
Trying to keep as healthy as possible is important to me so when I came across this title it was a perfect kmatch for me. I love alternative therapies and know that some of these can really help, I am always happy to try out different remedies whether they are traditional or homeopathic/complementary.
"Natural Antibiotics and Antivirals" inform and explains how to use medicinal herbs and essential oils to fight infectious illness, strengthen the immune system, and combat antibiotic resistance. Presented are 18 of the most potent antibiotic and antiviral herbs and one beehive remedy, propolis, detailing how to use them and what illnesses each of them can be used to treat. There is an added advantage that these remedies lack side effects and have no adverse effects on non-targeted bacteria (e.g. intestinal flora).
One of the parts I was most interested in was the information on restoring gut health via use of probiotics. Having suffered from terrible stomach issues for many years I was intrigued to know more about this and whether it could help me. use of probiotics can strengthen your immune system so that it is less receptive to infections. After reading this and having heard about the miracles probiotics can achieve I have purchased some in pill form courtesy of Holland & Barrett.
This is really a book that should be on every bookshelf, we are far too reliant on antibiotic pills prescribed by the doctor even when in most cases they aren't needed. This is how we have developed a resistance to them. In most cases, natural antibiotics and antivirals would suffice and this book guides you on how to use them in that way. It is grounded in science and is full of excellent information that is acessible and wll make sense to a layperson with no prior knowledge of the subject.
All in all, this is a fantastic resource that will be a vital part of my library once I purchase a copy for my bookshelf!
Many thanks to Healing Arts Press for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
My review has been posted to Goodreads.
Review has also been tweeted as usual.
Thank you! :c)
Very impressed with this book about using herbs and other natural ingredients for antibiotics and antivirals. The use of essential oils, tinctures, oral and topical treatments for so many health problems are discussed. I did appreciate the warnings in the book about avoiding certain areas and to dilute before using many of these things. A lot of good commonsense advice that I can't wait to use. Definitely 5 stars. Very well researched. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review and no compensation otherwise.

This is a natural way to treat some commons infections and virus. The ideas and recipes are a good idea as complementary treatment with a medical advice.
This is much more than a simple book on essential oils! The author includes useful information on the role of microbes, the micro-human relationship, the immune system, interferon, organelles, enzymes and details on bacteria and virus structures. The author gives you a sense of being able to more fully comprehend how and why the essential oils mentioned in his book work. I must admit, I have been skeptical of some essential oil claims in the past but this book takes a more scientific approach, allaying doubts I may have had. You get 50 fantastic recipes to treat common ailments. I read an e-version of this book, but plan to buy a hard copy for my bookshelf.
Many beginners or layperson-oriented essential oils and herbal remedy books have a lot of flowery language and brightly colored photographs of plants. What they don't often have, and what really sets this book apart, is a focus on SCIENCE. In fact, this book (at least the digital galley I received) didn't have any pictures at all, and very little flowery language, but it was packed to the gills with evidence-based information on the science of germs, disease and the immune system, and on how and why these plant-based medicines work. A fantastic resource that I will definitely turn to over time.
This book should be on everyone's shelf. It was interesting to learn more about some of the uses for natural herbs, how to administer them, and side effects. Very informative. I will be telling people I know about this book and encourage them to purchase. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
