Midnight Snacks are Murder by Libby Klein is the 2nd book in A Poppy McAllister Mystery, and another fun addition. Poppy is busy getting her gluten-free bakery off the ground, and overseeing the remodel of her Aunt Gilly Victorian home into Butterfly House Bed and Breakfast in Cape May, New Jersey. Neighbors are experiencing break-ins, when Poppy discovers that Aunt Gilly is sleepwalking with the new medicine the doctor gave her. When a body is found, Aunt Gilly is the prime suspect, and Poppy must find the real killer. Not only is this book laugh out loud funny, it a great mystery too. There are twists and turns around every corner. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. If you love fun cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book/series.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I wish I could give this mystery (and this series) more than 5 stars. Yes, it's that good. I'm a big fan of cozy and funny mysteries and the laughs are pitch perfect. Poppy has survived the first mystery in this series and is living with her 80+ year old Aunt Ginny in her Victorian house. Set on a course to turn it into The Butterfly House B&B, she makes a choice she comes to regret - she enters into partnership with her late husband's mother. Oh, what a mother-in-law! Oh, what an Aunt! Oh, what a circus that includes mysterious late night break ins around the neighborhood. Those alone are simply hysterical! But then murder shows up and it's not so funny when Aunt Ginny goes to the top of the list of suspects.
The characters are a wonderful bunch, the good and the bad. I have my own favorites, especially when Poppy's love live is the subject. Italian, please. Along with all of the people, there is a great cat, full of attitude. After reading this very satisfying mystery, I'm ready to pack my bags and take a long vacation on Cape May at the Butterfly House B&B. More to come with the third book, Restaurant Weeks are Murder due out February 2019.

Widow Poppy McAllister has her hands full. She’s busy with her gluten-free baking company as well as opening a B&B with her Aunt Ginny. To add to Poppy’s already full plate, her aunt has started sleepwalking and stealing items from her neighbors’ homes. Not to mention having a few snacks at each house and leaving a mess. Things are even more complicated when Poppy's mother-in-law, Georgina, stays at the B&B to supposedly lend a helping hand. Unfortunately, she seems more like a hindrance than anything else.

Then, murder strikes the small Cape May town. A local hero and head of a teen center is murdered. The only suspect is Aunt Ginny during one of her sleepwalking incidents. Poppy can’t believe her aunt killed anyone, but the police aren’t looking elsewhere. So, it's up to Poppy to find a killer.

Poppy’s pursuit of the killer takes her and her cohorts on a crazy ride around the small town. The story keeps you guessing with truly LOL moments. Aunt Ginny is a hoot. I loved her and her wacky antics. Poppy has the patience of a saint between Aunt Ginny and a mother-in-law who is on her back every step of the way. Oh, I can’t forget Poppy’s adorable kitty Figaro. Both adorable and feisty. Not to mention Poppy has two handsome men vying for her attention. Like I said, she has her hands full.

The author gives the readers several different motives and suspects for murder. The story keeps your head spinning. I know I didn’t know which direction to go, so I was suspicious of everyone. Of course I was totally wrong and shocked until I realized whodunit. Libby Klein is quickly making a name for herself in the cozy mystery world and she is doing it so very well.

Poppy McAllister is busy turning her great-aunt Ginny's Victorian house into the Butterfly House B&B when her bossy mother-in-law Georgina comes to visit and supervise the renovations. Meanwhile, someone is breaking into nearby homes at night, stealing knickknacks and eating treats. Poppy is shocked when it turns out that her Aunt Ginny is the culprit. Her odd sleepwalking behaviour is a side effect caused by her new sleeping pill. But when local humanitarian Brody Brandt is found murdered at his house, the police suspect the “Snack Bandit” of the crime. Officer Amber puts Aunt Ginny under house arrest with an ankle monitoring bracelet but the feisty senior is not handling her confinement well. Poppy needs to find the real killer so that Aunt Ginny can be cleared. Brody's work at a center for troubled teens may hold the key to the murder.

On the personal side, Poppy is also busy baking gluten-free treats and having to deal with romantic overtures from two men: her ex-boyfriend chef Tim, and sexy Italian cafe owner Gia.

This was another hilarious read. Aunt Ginny's antics are a hoot, Georgina is driving her crazy and Poppy's patience is put to the test.

I truly loved Midnight Snacks Are Murder by Libby Klein. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard while reading a murder mystery before. I can't get enough of reading about Poppy and Aunt Ginny and the things they get into. And I kind of want a spin-off series about Poppy's mother-in-law, Georgina. Several of the funny moments involved that character, which is interesting because I went into this book hating that character because of the first book. But the author did a really good job of giving Georgina more layers to her personality and giving the readers, and Poppy, insight into why she had been so horrible to her. I like that we saw more of Gia in this book and not as much of Tim. I like that the author is giving Poppy two men vying for her heart, but I hope Gia is the ultimate winner there. Going back to an old relationship is kind of a tired romantic storyline. Poppy needs a new love, not an old one. As for the actual mystery in the story, I was honestly surprised by who the killer was and why they did it. It was a scenario that never crossed my mind at all. This was just a great book all the way around. I can't wait to read the next one in the series to see what Poppy and Aunt Ginny get into next.

Note: I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Poor Poppy!! She's got her hands full! Not only is her aunt stealing tacky items from the neighbors while sleepwalking, but her cat is naughty as all get out, her persnickety mother in law is getting in everyone's way, and to top it all off she still on that godforsaken Paleo diet!! What could be worse than all of that? Well, the cops are also honing in on Aunt Ginny as a murder suspect! Poppy knows that her aunt would never commit murder so she decides to show that know it all cop Amber once and for all that nobody messes with Poppy McAllister!
Not only does this book contain a well planned mystery but the author also threw in lots of humor, a love triangle, and a bunch of mouth watering recipes (I'd love to eat them even if they are PaleoNO recipes)! I highly recommend this series if you want to laugh your butt off while reading a fun cozy mystery with lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end! I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series!

First book I have read by this author. It is the second in the Poppy McAllister Mystery series. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more from this author. I was drawn in by the synopsis and the cover.

I found this humorous even though there are series topics discussed. Poppy, her suitors, her Aunt Ginny and mother-in-law have a good sense of humor.

The book’s serious topics deal with drug dealing, falsely accusing others, redemption, food intolerances, and other insecurities. I felt theses were handled well.

I would have had a hard time dealing with Aunt Ginny and Georgina and was glad that Poppy loved them so much that she could put up with their antics.

The story opens with the Butterfly House B & B trying to get the last steps necessary to open. Her handyman’s favorite phrase “I can fix that” just makes me laugh & cringe at the same time.

There is murder, embezzlement, and romance in bloom. Pick this book up and grab a cool drink and enjoy the plot.

Eagerly anticipating the next story – hope I don’t have to wait a year to read it.

Recipes for Paleo and gluten free are included at the end.

If you pay attention you might just figure out the killer before the end!

This is the next installment in this series and I have loved each one.  From the characters with a lot of issues, to the mystery that has to be solved to keep a loved one out of jail, each page unfolded new complexity.   We also learn more about Georgina and why she is so rough on Poppy.  I would have kicked her out of my life so much sooner than deal with that negativity.  I also laughed at the relationship between Smitty (the handyman) and Georgina.  I had my suspicions about the interaction between those two.  Then there is the love triangle between Poppy, Tim, and Gia.  I think I'm Team Gia.

This book has a lot of humor along with the mystery.  I had a hard time putting the book down because with the characters that were presented, I had a hard time deciding who might be the guilty party until once scene which was an "ah-ha" moment for me.

Considering how some personal issues were resolved at the end of the book, I'm curious how the next book continues those story lines.  Oh and let's not forget the recipes at the end of the book.  If you are on the Paleo diet you might want to check them out.  They sound delicious!

I loved this book, between Aunt Ginny and Georgina I was laughing out loud that my husband giving me strange looks. The mystery had great twists and turns and I was surprised by who the killer was. I enjoyed the romance triangle and Gia's overprotective mother. I did not read the first book, but did not feel lost. I will definitely read the next book and already bought the first one to catch up.

Midnight Snacks are Murder is a good humorous cozy with a wonderful setting and characters. The addition of gluten-free recipes makes this series unique.

Poppy is opening a bed and breakfast with her Aunt Ginny. Her contractor, Smitty, is incompetent. Worse, her investor and former mother-in-law, Georgina, has come to help if helping means firing the maid, cancelling guest bookings and undermining Poppy’s design decisions. Things are looking up with Poppy’s love life after her husband’s death nine months earlier. There’s Tim, her high school sweetheart, and the sexy barista, Gia. Gia is buying Poppy’s gluten-free goodies for his coffee shop. But his Italian momma spends all her time trying to break up their romance. When neighborhood thefts of food and worthless items lead to murder, Poppy is intent on solving the crime and freeing the accused murderer, Aunt Ginny.

Being gluten-free, I love the inclusion of seven gluten-free recipes for Paleo Espresso Brownies, Blueberry Buttermilk Muffins, Paleo Chocolate-Orange Muffins, Paleo Banana-Walnut Muffins, Honey Maple Pecan Shortbread (with notes to convert to pie crust or Pecan Pie Bars), and Butterscotch-Oatmeal Bars. The romantic triangle is great and similar to the one in the Stephanie Plum books basically hot vs. nice. The madcap antics of Poppy and her friends and family are amusing. The mystery is more challenging than most cozy series. All in all, 4 stars!

Thanks to the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for an advanced copy.

This is a delightful cozy set in the very real town of Cape May, New Jersey. Poppy, a recent widow plagued by her mother-in-law, is restarting her life by opening a gluten free baking business and by helping her Aunt Ginny renovate into a new B&B. Unfortunately, there's a murder in town, a strange murder where someone is eating snacks. Even more unfortunately, Ginny is a sleepwalker and the prime suspect. Klein deftly winds elements of the cozy (a cat, recipes, love interests) into a well done story. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You do not need to have read the first one to enjoy this but no matter how you approach it, you like me will be looking forward to the next one!

Midnight Snacks are Murder is the second installment in the A Poppy McAllister Mystery series featuring gluten free baker, Poppy McAllister set in the seaside community of Cape May, New Jersey. Poppy has her hands full trying to keep the renovations on track to the old Victorian home she shares with her Aunt Ginny, as the two try to convert the home into the Butterfly Bed and Breakfast. Complicating matters is her overbearing mother in law, Georgina. Georgina has arrived to oversee her investment after the death of Poppy's husband, and is locking horns with handyman, Smitty.

As if she doesn't have enough on her plate Aunt Ginny is prescribed a new medicine and she begins sleepwalking around the neighborhood. Breaking into homes, making snacks and stealing knick knacks. Nothing serious and the neighbors are having a good laugh until Humanitarian Brody Brandt is found murdered in his bed and an eye witness places Aunt Ginny at the scene.

Knowing that her Aunt isn't capable of murder, Poppy sets out to clear Ginny's name with the help of high school boyfriend and restaurant owner, Tim and Giampaolo, barista owner. Her investigation leads Poppy to the local Teen Center where she discovers that things aren't exactly as they appear; rumors of drugs, molestation, embezzlement and bribery abound.

This series is terrific. Well written plots with a terrific cast of characters. Midnight Snacks are Murder will have you laughing out loud from page one. I want to stay at the Butterfly Bed and Breakfast just to spend some time with Aunt Ginny (well, okay to taste Poppy's delicious pastries too). Libby Klein seemed on the cusp of the dreadful love triangle, but am hoping that the last few pages of the book means that Poppy has made her decision.

I received an advanced copy of Midnight Snacks are Murder from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

Loved it! Lots of chuckles, a murder to solve, a smidgen of romance, and family and friend issues all add up to an entertaining cozy. I am eagerly awaiting the next one in this delightful series.

Too cute, made me laugh out loud! A very good mystery, did not figure it out until the end. Loved the relationship between Gia, and Poppy! I think she needs to realize Tim is not into her as much as Gia is. A man who treats his Mother with love and respect would never cheat on his wife. I love all of the loonie old people, including Aunt Ginny, what a hoot they all are! I wished that I lived near all of these people. I even like Georgina! How big is Poppy supposed to be? I am near her age, and I am a size 10, and to be quite immodest, I am still a beautiful Southern Girl. Poppy is not old, she is gifted, intelligent, compassionate, and has a lot of passion left to give. Good cozy mystery. Thank you Netgalley, found another fascinating, witty Author!
I highly recommend! Thank you!

The first book of this series was really fun, especially because of the high school reunion setting. This second book got off to a slower start for me. I liked all the elements of the story, and the fact that Aunt Ginny is the one accused of murder this time around, but the first half of the book didn't have as much humor as I expected, and it felt like there was a lot of information about the paleo diet that wasn't that interesting to me. But as the stakes grew higher for Aunt Ginny, the humor really picked up. Some scenes - such as one where Poppy and an increasingly larger group of friends drive around town looking for Aunt Ginny - felt like they came right out of a comedy film, and they gave me a good laugh. The involvement of kids from the teen center in the plot was also interesting, and I liked that the plot went back and forth between Poppy trying to keep Aunt Ginny under control and Poppy trying to figure out who really committed the murder. Some things, like Georgina's inability to remember Smitty the contractor's name, and Gia's mother's blatant dislike for Poppy, felt a little bit inauthentic, and over-the-top, but they did mostly suit the lighthearted tone of the book. All in all, the writing is strong and the characters are really lovable and easy to root for. I will definitely be sticking with this series for book 3 when it comes out.

Be prepared for a wild ride as Poppy works to keep her eccentric but endearing, Aunt Ginny, out of jail for murder. Poppy is in the midst of renovating an old Victorian into a B&B, when her ex-mother-in-law, Georgina, shows up to keep an eye on the renovations and creates havoc at every opportunity. Poppy's handyman, Smitty, is constantly at odds with Georgina and the two had me in stitches at every encounter. Georgina can never seem to get Smitty's name right and ends up calling him everything but Smitty. Aunt Ginny turns out to be a master escape artist and the schemes she will go to keep her active lifestyle are hilarious! Throw in an intuitive cat, Figaro, and a town full of engaging characters and you have a cozy mystery impossible to put down. Too many laugh-out-loud scenes that to mention any more would be unfair to the next reader. If you do not read this book you will be missing out on one of the best cozy mysteries to date. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to review this ARC and introducing me to this very talented author.

Poppy McAllister has moved back home to Cape May, New Jersey, and is in the midst of opening a bed and breakfast with her beloved Aunt Ginny, when her mother-in-law, Georgina, appears on the front step announcing her intentions to move in and protect her investment. As if this isn't stressful enough, dear old Aunt Ginny is accused of burglary after a change in medication causes her to sleepwalk and break into her neighbors' homes, and when one of those neighbors is found brutally murdered Aunt Ginny is accused of the crime. Combine this with the fact that widow Poppy has two men vying for her affections, and her bestie, Sawyer, seems to be hiding something, Midnight Snacks Are Murder is a rolicking good read, and a laugh out loud cozy mystery that, if you're like me, will keep you turning the pages way past your bedtime because it's simply too good to put down. So good that on a scale of one to five stars, I'm gonna have to give it a ten! Oh, and by the way, I'm completely #TeamGia! :D

What a fun, fun book to read!! I actually found myself laughing out loud at some of the antics of Poppy and crew. The book is well written and the characters are beyond enjoyable. This is the first book by this author that I have read but, it won't be the last! I found Poppy and company totally engaging. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery, fun characters and a few laughs along the way!

Midnight Snacks are Murder combines humor and mystery with just a dash of romance for the perfect recipe of a cozy mystery. The characters run from outrageous to adorable and all around fun. Aunt Gigi is a barrel of laughs as is the relationship between Poppy's mother-in-law and the handyman. Poppy's life is utter chaos between juggling her gluten-free baking business, setting up a bed and breakfast, and juggling two suitors. When Aunt Gigi's medicine creates the snacking bandit, a dead body in a house full of food makes her the prime suspect. Poppy stumbles head first into a growing list of suspects while uncovering lies, fraud, and abuses. The story is a fast-paced, humorous cozy read that has made this girl a fan of Libby Klein. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

I love Poppy McAllister! I love Aunt Ginny! They are outrageous characters who really make this story great and make want to come back to Cape May to see what kind of trouble they'll get into next.

Aunt Ginny is accused of murder and it's up to Poppy to clear her name, since Poppy's nemesis and local police officer, Amber is dead set on Aunt Ginny as the main suspect. Poppy digs into the victims past and finds out that the local hero has a seeded past, but who would want to kill him?

When the killer was revealed, I let out an audible gasp. I was truly shocked. Kudos to Libby Klein on another great mystery!
