This box set contains four complete novels about young adults that are very well written, emotionally compelling and very enjoyable to read. The collection features wonderful characters who are in various stages in their college education, on their own for the first time in their lives, trying to cope with classes, homework and part time jobs which can all be quite challenging. Of course, they’re also meeting new people and making friends with members of both sexes while learning that their actions can’t always be predicted and have far reaching and sometimes heartbreaking consequences. As they experience physical attraction and sexual desire some couples will find lasting love while others will stumble through a lot of potholes along the way. Reading about these characters led me to reflect on my own road to becoming an adult and the myriad emotions that go along with the crazy thing we call love. I think readers of all ages will see themselves in one or more of the youthful characters in this engaging box set and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did. I read an early copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
I want to thank the Pink Bloom Press editions and the netgalley website for this partnership.
This complete article tells the story of Boston students who love each other with love and friendship. Rose is in love with her best friend, a bit difficult for her especially since she moved in with Tyler. As for him he hesitates between two girls. One of her Georgina will do everything for the separated. Alice is in love with Jack who enjoys university. Except that Peter will do everything to conquer Alice's heart. David and Scott are in love with the same girl: Haley. And Madison is in love with a man except that he is in love with his best friend.
An integral or I struggled to hang on to the story, I found a little long this box set.
I really enjoyed the Just Friends series which centers on a group of friends going to college in Boston.
Book one centers on Rose and Tyler. Rose has had a crush on her BFF Tyler for ages and this book chronicles what happens when she decides to act on it. Unfortunately, this is probably the weakest book of the series. It does contain a cheating element and Tyler is very wishy-washy.
Book two centered on a love triangle with a lot of different characters in sort of a round robin of romantic relationships. I really liked Ethan. Alice (who is hung up on Jack) made the friend zone excruciating.
Book three: I probably liked David and Haley the best. No cheating, not a lot of angst, they just were friends afraid of being more!!
Book 4 nicely resolves all the triangles. I was happy with how all the stories wrapped up.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book was really good. I enjoyed the different characters and situations that they had to go through. I can't pick a specific couple that I liked best because I felt like I relate to them all in one or another. Besides who can pass up four stories in one book, amirite?
I loved the entire series ... the more the books progress the better they get...
Book 1
This book has cheating and I loved it. I'm starting by saying this because I read some maddening reviews saying: "I like this story, but there was cheating, so I'm giving it one star because I don't approve of cheating."
O.o
For me this is like saying you give a mystery you enjoyed one star because there was a murder and you don't approve murders. Hello? Reading and enjoying a story about cheating has nothing to do with your moral standing on the subject... it's either a good story or not. Sorry for the rant, it was just to say that if cheating is a pet peeve of yours skip this book, but don't give it one star because of it.
That said... The confusion and turmoil that came from a love triangle with "the best friend" were so real... Already a love triangle is complicated, but when you add a friendship of decades in the mix things get explosive... I loved how we got all the prospectives in the book with different POVs.
Yeah, Tyler was immature and too indecisive. And Rose made her fair share of mistakes, but by the end of the book I couldn't help liking her and the growth she experienced...
Also the story totally didn't end how you'd expect.
And now to the best part: Ethan! Yet another dishy book boyfriend.... He was dashing, hot, sexy, and just the right amount of alpha!
Book 2
A friends to lovers love triangle with no cheating. This book was everything! The characters and emotions felt so real... I loved following the story from both Jack and Alice's POV.
Alice has had feelings for Jack since freshman year, but she's been stuck in the friend zone ever since. And if you've ever been "in the zone" you know how hard it is to watch your friend date... and how easy you wish each and every one of his reationships won't last... This is Alice for the past two years! But now she's just been dumped and Tyler had just dumped his latest fling so she's determined to not let another day go by without confessing her feelings to Jack. The only problem is she doesn't realize how scarred Jack is from another friendship-turned-relationship gone wrong... and so a series of epic misunderstandings begins... And they all felt very real... My eyes were glued to the pages I had to know what would happen next! The story kept evolving with so many twists and plot turns I hadn't seen coming, but the ending was SO satisfying... Also halfway through the new leading love story for the next book in the series is introduced and I must say I can't wait to read it.
I found this book in the friends to lovers lists and since I already liked the author I gave it a try. Seeing the author's review I found out you can get it for free via the author's newsletter signing up here: http://www.camillaisley.com/freebie
Book 3
With this book I most definitely fell in love with David... he's the ultimate bad-boy-not-so-bad-underneath.... The masquerade I hadn't seen coming and how I wish I could turn into a book character and be Haley for that night!!
The ending had me screaming, "Nooooo, noooooo, noooooooooooo...." but my heart is still beating only because I know there's another book and I can't wait ...
On the female side, Madison is just too adorable ... I hope something good will come her way.
I love how strong the friendships in this book are, and I also love that is a fresh New Adult novel with no previously-abused-characters/alcohol/drugs/tattooed-fighter-types etc... and all the depressing tropes that seem to appear in most books in the genre. This one is all about love and friendship...
Book 4
Oh, how i loved this book. First of all it opens with my favorite character: DAVID! Yeas! Even if he's suffering... I loved him in every state, when he was trying to be douche because he was hurt, when he got mad, when he got impossibly gentle or impossibly hot... He's the perfect example of a three-dimensional character with flaws that make you love him only more...
Now, that scene by the fireplace. OMG, I was melting! This is a squeaky clean romance, but the way the author manages to convey such passion without revealing much... gosh it was all tension and emotions... I just couldn't put this book down!
I loved how all the other stories wrapped up, too. We get glimpses of characters from previous books and it was great to follow Jack and Alice's evolving relationship, you know, to see a couple beyond the veil of the moment they get together...
I could stay with these characters forever...
Out of this bind up, I only ended up reading the first story "Let's Just Be Friends." Unfortunately, it was not for me. I do not like stories that cheating is excused or "justified" I also felt the story was very rushed, characters were underdeveloped, and the plot was cookie cutter. Overall, I was disappointed which is why I did not read all four stories in this box set.
***I will be posting my review on Goodreads and discussing the book briefly in my June Wrap Up and the end of the month,
