A locked island mystery. This is a nice start to a new series, Know that this might mean that you'll want DI McKinnon to be better fleshed out and so on but that there's room for him and others to grow. I liked the atmospherics. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

This is the first book in a new series and I can really see a new favorite series in the works! Recommended.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Sapere Books and Keith Moray for the opportunity to read a copy of The Gathering Murders in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this book was a really good read. The storyline was well thought out and atmospheric. And I like the characterisation of Inspector McKinnon. This book is a promising start to a great detective series.
Well worth a read for fans of the genre.

What a different corner of the world! I was entranced by this setting from the very beginning. It's an area I don't know much about, so I was excited to read this first in the series. I found the characters to be relatable, and Torquil to be an especially intriguing protagonist. I couldn't believe the body count, and the plot twists abound. BUT. My biggest problem was the reveal. It felt cheap, and the characterization of the murderer felt like an afterthought (as well as being phobic?) I'm disheartened that this very good novel had to end this way. That said, I will give this author (and these characters) another chance - and read the next in the series.
I received this book through NetGalley, from Sapere Books, in exchange for an honest review.

While I did enjoy the book and the mystery within, I should know better by now... I have some difficulty empathizing with foreign characters since I often don't understand their slang or find their dialogue awkward. Unfortunately, such was true with this book as well. If those things don't bother you, however, I recommend the book for it's suspense alone.

I found this a hard book to get to terms with loved the start but when the story moved l suppose it was places and names l found hard to absorb too much all things Celtic for me, lve put the book down now and will try again as it has promise

The Gathering Murders by Keith Moray. Loved the setting in the Scottish Hebrides, but although I had no problem finishing it, there were too many murders for such a tiny island. And the conclusion was just weird.

Unfortunately I did not find this book very interesting.
The writing, whilst descriptive, was very slow with too much minor detail included.
The story itself was nothing out of the ordinary either.
Overall a very average book
