Going back to Mason, Missouri and Lucille was like going home. After reading The Story of Arthur Truluv , I was so hoping for another book with these amazing characters. Lucille is still teaching her baking class and hires newcomer Iris to help her. We also meet Jason, his wife Abby, and their son Lincoln. As Lucille is living in Arthur's house, they buy Lucille's house. Maddy and Nola visit as well. This is a wonderful story with amazing characters. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Random House. All opinions are my own.

I have been surprised by some other reviews where the readers gave 1 and 2 stars with some negative comments. But that’s what makes for interesting books....not everyone likes the same things! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I have read other Elizabeth Berg books and like her casual, endearing style of writing. While the book mainly focuses around the character of Lucille Howard, an elderly woman living alone and has a baking business and classes, there are full storylines about several different characters., and how they intertwined with each other. It really felt like such a small community of days past....where everyone knows each other, cares about each other and helps each other. But not to be lost is how lonely Lucille really is, that she is a stereotypical crabby but loving old lady, and how she knows she has more things to do in her life before she goes. It’s a good read that i can wholly recommend for reading. I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in return for an honest review of the book, which this has been.

This book was a challenge to figure out. It rambled along about people's lives, but, didn't seem to get to the point until the end. I'm not even sure about the title, as I found it difficult to figure out the "Night". The end was okay, but, it was questionable if I was going to get to the end.

This book wasn't as cute as the previous book in the series. There were to many characters. And most of their storylines weren't that interesting.

I always love finding a new author. Night of Miracles is my first book to read by Elizabeth Berg. Heartwarming is the perfect word for this book. Berg captures the spirit of her characters and made me want to get to know them better. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book.

I haven't read an Elizabeth Berg for a few years and forgot how welcoming and heartwarming her characters are! I need to read The Story of Arthur Truluv now as I think it may have made the beginning of this book a little easier for me to understand and know. After the first chapter or two, I got into these lively characters and understand how they are all interacting. Each character has a lot of depth where you feel like you are in the room with them, watching and listening to them, and feeling their emotions.

It's a great, hopeful story that was an easy and welcoming read!

4.5 stars, but rounding up to 5.

This is a sweet and endearing book that just made me so happy! I read and enjoyed The Story of Arthur Truluv, but to be honest, I enjoyed this book even more. And that's coming from someone who didn't completely love the character of Lucille in the first book. But I seriously fell in love with her in this book and wish she could be my grandmother or neighbor. Or at least my baking instructor!

If you read Arthur Truluv, you'll have a great background for this book and immediately know who most of the characters are. If you haven't read it, that's OK because it can definitely stand on its own and you'll get to know the characters as you go along. This book focuses on Lucille Howard, Arthur's nosy neighbor from the first book who he ends up living with for a little while. Maddy and her daughter Nola only play small parts in this book, though they do make a couple appearances. And there are a few new characters with starring roles, including the likable Iris and her neighbor, a not so small man named Tiny, and a family that lives next door to Lucille. Their stories are both separate, but intertwined and the storytelling was done extremely well.

I feel like this book IS Elizabeth Berg. It sounds silly, but I follow her posts on Facebook and I can just hear her true voice so loudly and distinctly throughout Night of Miracles. She is such a genuine, sweet woman who's just a little bit quirky. And Night of Miracles fully encompasses all of these characteristics. I believe that all of the characters have a little bit of Elizabeth Berg in them and that Lucille is who she sees herself becoming at some point (though Lucille needs a dog of her own in this book!).

If you're looking for a book that's a little bit lighter, but still incredibly meaningful and deep-feeling with sweet characters and endearing storylines, this is the book for you.

This book was a delight to read. It is a fast read, but still captures the art of character development. I was rooting for every relationship that Berg so carefully constructs. The book reveals the importance of friendship, love and community. Monica and Tiny most overcome their own obstacles before allowing themselves the opportunity to love. Abby, Jason, and Lincoln deal with heartbreaking news and learn the power of hope. Maddy and sweet Nora look forward to second changes and bright futures. Iris represents freedom and introspection, while Lucille ties everyone together by living through the compassionate lens of Arthur Truluv.

I would highly recommend this book!

Elizabeth Berg has been one of my favorite authors for many years so I always highly anticipate her new releases. She is someone who has stood the test of time and her books are lovely and beautifully written while also building characters that stick with you long after you have finished her books.

There are quite a few characters in Night of Miracles so it did take some time to keep them all straight but I loved the story that is based in a small town and the interactions between everyone. She is able to write books that flow perfectly without having major cliffhangers but also keep you engaged and hanging on for more. She has a gift for sharing about daily life in the most heart-warming way and if you have enjoyed Berg's books in the past, you will love this one.

Oh, how I love Elizabeth Berg's stories! She writes with such depth and beauty, I don't know how anyone can read one of her books and not be moved. The main characters from her novel "Arthur Truluv" are back for this story, although this one centers on Lucille, the neighbor. Lucille is 93, teaching cooking classes and affecting more lives than she knows in small-town Mason, Missouri. There are new characters to meet and love and root for, and Ms. Berg writes them to perfection. And yes, I teared up at the end, how could you not? Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the e-arc of the best book I've read in awhile. 4.5 stars!

What a lovely breath of fresh air! Don't come to this novel expecting a lot of diversity or political agendas, you won't find them here. Rather, expect from it a touching story about love, the loss of it, regrets and second chances. Berg's engaging characters can be of any hue and affiliation. They are simply human beings living in the little town of Mason, Missouri trying to get by and enjoy life to the best of their ability.
Lucille Howard, the most mature character in this multigenerational read, acts as the catalyst who makes friends out of strangers and family out of friends wrapping the little town of Mason in a blanket of cozy.
It is a sweet story, a bit predictable, a tear jerker and even, perhaps, a little implausable but suspend belief and, like Lucille, get ready for some magical thinking.
Thank you NetGalley, Ms Berg and the publisher for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review,

NIGHT OF MIRACLES is a companion novel to THE STORY OF ARTHUR TRULUV. Although it isn't necessary to read TRULUV first, I think readers who do will enjoy the second installment more.

NIGHT OF MIRACLES is a feel good kind of book. There's nothing flashy or glamorous about it, which is part of its appeal. The characters are simple and genuine. No mention is made of politics of any kind, and I can't express how much I appreciated that in a time where authors feel the need to saturate otherwise good fiction with their opinions on every little thing. That being said, overall I felt a little bit cheated. There were so many characters, which left very little room for character development. The characters were endearing, but I didn't feel nearly as connected with them as I expected.. It was just missing that extra special something that made TRULUV so memorable for me. However, it was still a great way to escape the world for a few hours, and I'm sure many fans of TRULUV will enjoy it.

I am a huge Elizabeth Berg fan and with her Night of Miracles, she continues to prove why she is so beloved. I adored Arthur Truluv and this follow-up/continuation is just as delightful, warm-hearted and charming. There are always lessons to be learned, big and small in Ms. Berg's books and her characters bring those lessons into our lives in such funny, truthful ways. While the epilogue felt 'unfinished', If this is the book that says good-bye to Mason, then I'm glad I have Lucille, Tiny, Iris and Maddy tucked into my memory.

When I started reading this, I didn't realize it was a follow-up to some characters in "The Story of Arthur Truluv", which was a book I simply loved. This book continues with the well-developed characters about whom you just can't help but care. I hated for the book to end.

This is a book that follows the characters from Arthur Truluv and introduces a few more to round out the little town of Mason. It is full of characters I would like to call friends. That said, it gets a little twee at the end, and that's what keeps it at 4 stars instead of 5.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t worry if you haven’t read Arthur Truluv #1 as I didn’t either. This book really does stand on its own. It a great chick lit book, full of heartwarming friendships, eternal love and a necklace made of stars.

In the small town of Madison, no-nonsense Lucille is a retired elementary school teacher who now teaches baking classes in her home. Jason, Abby and their son Lincoln move next door, and an unexpected friendship is in the works when Abby falls gravely ill and Lucille helps out by watching Lincoln. I almost quit reading as I really just wasn’t in the mood for sadness. Thankfully, I didn’t stop. This is the story of a community that pulls together, with all its mismatched relationships between family, friends and coworkers. The writing is excellent, such fluid dialog. The characters are people you truly like, and would like to spend time with. It's just a feel good book that will bring a smile to your face, as well as an out loud laugh along the way.

As Lucille says, life is a Whirligig that jerks you here, there, everywhere.  One minute you’re going forward, the next backward or sideways or tilted over so far you think you might fall out. That’s life.  A ride on the Whirligig. And sometimes it gives you a miracle or two, like a necklace of stars.

Berg writes stories that I read slower as I go along because I don't want it to end. The characters and stories are so honest, and beautifully interwoven. Though not critical, is read Arthur Truluv first. I hope there is a third so I can he back to Mason Missouri again.

It's only a book - right? Night of Miracles honors the life of Elizabeth Berg's character, Arthur Truluv, The Story of Arthur Truluv. The novel reminds us through its cast of characters that one person can make a difference and that when we help others we do indeed help ourselves.

Lesson learned.
Beautifully written and a wonderful cast of characters

Thank you NetGalley, Random House and Elizabeth Berg for the honor of reading this book in exchange for an honest review.

Night of Miracles by Elizabeth Berg follows the trials and triumphs of several residents of the small town of Mason, Missouri. We meet Lucille Howard, an aged matriarch who has a particular gift for baking. She shares this gift with other residents in town by teaching weekly baking classes in her home. We also meet Abby and Jason Summers and their 10 year old son Lincoln. They have moved down from Chicago to find some peace and quiet in Mason.

There are many other characters, and each one of them is developed and leaves an impression on us as the reader. Night of Miracles is a story of inter connectivity and just how our involvement with the world around us, and the people in that world change us, and the people we interact with.

Elizabeth Berg is a gifted writer with her ability to craft so many different characters, and make them relatable and special in their own way. Anyone who reads this story can find aspects of themselves or someone they know in the characters. A very charming read that also plays on the heartstrings.
