Night of Miracles is a continuation of - or rather a sequel to - The Story of Arthur Truluv, concentrating on Lucille. As ever, Elizabeth Berg masterfully creates and develops unforgettable characters among a moving story.

Elizabeth Berg you are a MASTER of creating characters that forever leave an imprint in my heart and tears on the pages long after I read the final words. [book:The Story of Arthur Truluv|32918898] made my Top 10 of 2017 list and when I heard a sequel of sorts was coming and would be centered around Lucille, I knew it was going to be amazing but also have some large shoes to fill. And this book totally exceeded my expectations. I loved meeting a new cast of characters interspersed with the old favorites and I have a feeling Night of Miracles will be making the 2018 list for sure.

Thank you to Random House for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Elizabeth Berg skillfully weaves together the stories of multiple characters including those from a previous work. Berg handles their various sorrows and joys with a deft touch. While I enjoyed Arthur Truluv, Maddy, Lucille and Nola in her previous novel, I feel like I know them better after reading Night of Miracles. This was the best book I've read in quite a while and hope there's something new in the work.

NIGHT OF MIRACLES returns us to Mason, Missouri, home of THE STORY OF ARTHUR TRULUV and many of the familiar characters from that story as well as several new, and equally interesting new ones.

Lucille Howard may not be as young as she once was, but that doesn’t stop her from teaching baking classes, showing her students how to make perfect Southern desserts. With the popularity of her classes soaring, Lucille hires Iris to help assist her. And even though Iris is facing a mountain of personal problems, she finds refuges in Lucille’s kitchen. Lucille soon finds herself caring for a little boy, her new neighbor’s child, Lincoln after a tragedy. As the community falters, Lucille is there to help remind them that they are bound together, there to help each other trough the most difficult of crises. Elizabeth Berg’s novels are simply beautiful, I never put one down without feeling better about myself and the world in general
