I love all things natural, especially herbs and essential oils. I was really excited to read and review this book. There were some good recipes that that I would love to try, however there were some other things that were problematic. I am skeptical of anyone that recommends ingestion of essential oils. I will use some of the recipes long term, but I can't recommend this to people that don't know enough about essential oils to know which recipes are problematic.
A well-meaning author that gets the history of aromatherapy and the current safety guidelines a bit turned around. Marketing companies often tout the "essential oils of the bible" line when in fact religious texts refer to plant extracts that were accessible at the time - macerations in animal and vegetable oils, solid incense made from powdered plant materials, and herbal infusions and decoctions.
Current safety guidelines help the consumer to make informed decisions on how long essential oils should be diffused in a room, how much essential oil should make up a topical application, and what kinds of mediums can be used to safely apply essential oils to the body. I found this book lacking in some key areas here that could make a real difference in whether the reader goes on to safely work with essential oils or instead risks overwhelming the respiratory or integumentary systems with these concentrated plant extracts.
I also found the reference to using essential oils instead of pharmaceuticals for mental health challenges disingenuous. Someone with clinical depression or generalized anxiety disorder shouldn't be put in the position to choose between a prescription medication and an essential oil. True holistic practices bridge plant allies with pharmaceutical allies in supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my candid review.
Nice starter book to learn about essential oils and how to use them for emotional wellbeing. I am new to essential oils and this was a good starting point.
Very good reference book about oils. Well presented and easy to read and understand. Highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on my review.
The author does a great job explaining how essential oils can help with the emotional health. The book starts off explaining how to use oils, their connection to the mind and body, and some safety tips. I have been an oiler for several years so I already knew a lot of the tips. Most of the the basic emotions such as anxiousness, panic, and fear are covered with several recipes to choose from. The recipes are easy to follow but can be expensive depending on where you get your oils and supplies from. This book would make a great resource for anyone who is looking to support their emotional health.
Great reference, full of wonderful ideas for those new to essential oils. Really recommend to beginners and advanced alike.
I've read a fair number of essential oil books in the past year. I really love the way this one addresses topics that many I've read don't. I like the relevance to the chakras and the recipes for each. It touched on aspects that really hit home for me. It's a great reference that I'd like to keep around.
Ok it took me a while to finish this book but really, you don't finish books like this in one go...
For a new-ish oiler like me, this book is so full of recipes. I'm always on the lookout for good recipes that don't require a lot more oils than there are in my current kit. I kept highlighting and noting down the recipes. So many many recipes! I love that! And not just for roller bottles...which is great. I am definitely going to make some right now.
This book is a keeper!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this wonderful resource book.
Another basic book with information about the uses of essential oils. If you already have other books this one will not present a lot of new information but it would be a good starter book.
This book is a great resource for all types of uses of essential oils. The author draws on personal experience to offer useful recommendations and recipes. Highly recommended.
Vannoy Gentles Fite's Essential Oils for Emotional Wellbeing is a comprehensive guide. The author provides easy to follow recipes for a variety of products using essential oils. I appreciated the extra information on choosing essential oils and using them safely. This book contains too much information to take in all at once. It will be an excellent reference guide.
This is a wonderful guide to safely using essential oils with 400 recipes anyone can follow. I appreciated the depth of information here and how the author went into great detail. If your a person that is new to essential oils or someone with a basic knowledge you can all benefit from this book. I found the scientific information easy to follow and the recipes very enjoyable to prepare. Thank you to the author and to the publisher for this ARC . My opinion is strictly my own.
This book is full of great recipes for emotional wellbeing using essential oils. I liked the range of different recipes that are included.
Essential Oils for Emotional Wellbeing is a very thorough and well thought out grouping of recipes all categorized by emotion or need. It goes over the basics of essentials oils and talks you through making rubs and salves, sprays and diffuses. There are even recipes for bath salts, bath bombs, and linen powders. This book is great for beginners. In the back there is an index of oils, along with usage warnings and a list of the things they're good for. I highly enjoyed this books. I even took notes on some of the recipes that I'd like to try out. So if you're interested in Essential oils, I recommend you pick up this book!
I'm familiar with many of the uses for essential oils but have always been under the impression that only a licenced aromatherapy practitioner should be giving out advice on the subject and due to the potential for things to go sideways if the advice is wrong, I still believe that. So, when I read in the opening pages of this book a disclosure clause stating that the author was not qualified in any way I was concerned but decided to continue to see what lay ahead. However, it does state in the author's online biography that she is a certified herbalist and a certified aromatherapist, but why would you say the exact opposite if you are trying to flog a book? Unfortunately, some of the information provided I would deem as quite dangerous whether certified or not. For instance, talk of ingesting the oils scared the living daylights out of me as I know they are for external use only. The recipes also require the oils to be diluted sufficiently, and I feel that the measurements were way off here.
Please, if you're looking for a book to guide you on the use of essential oils make sure the author is qualified enough to be able to supply that kind of information. There are plenty of fantastic ones on the market that are safe and that is the most important thing. This book is a minefield for beginners looking to learn about this topic. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of sound, solid information here, but a novice will not know the difference between sound information and potentially dangerous information.
Many thanks to Llewellyn Publications for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
This amazing book is filled with 400 recipes for essential oils. It is an amazing reference book that everyone who enjoys using essential oils should have. There are recipes for a wide variety of mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. This book has recipes for everyone. It even has a history on the use of essential oils. This is not a book you read from cover to cover but more of a reference book.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review
This book has a lot of information about essential oils. I loved reading through the different uses and how the quality affects oils based on what you are using them for. This was very helpful for me to better use and blend the oils I have and use them correctly.
Essential oils are many things to many people, and knowing how best to use them - and do so safely - is extremely important. There are a variety of books out there, some better than others, that give this information. Essential Oils for Emotional Wellbeing is one of those. However, I'm not sure that this one is quite what I would recommend. The first part of the book is primarily about chakras, and blends that will help with various issues related to them. Then come other sections - and I'm a bit concerned about the section that promotes blends for bipolar disease and paranoia. Both of these, among others, are very serious mental conditions, and - in general - people with those mental illnesses are not always in a state of mind to be worrying about mixing up blends. Not only that, but it is not uncommon for someone with one of these mental illnesses to think that other "treatments" can take the place of their medication - and for these conditions, that could be disastrous. Unfortunately, knowing that these are in there colored my reaction to much of the rest of the book, and while a lot of it was interesting, it's not one I will be adding to my shelf.
It is interesting going through all the suggestions and recipes in this volume. I picked up a lot of ideas but I think this may not be for the absolute beginner in EO as I still found myself not able to do a lot of the recipes due to my limited (despite my growing collection) number of EO's at my disposal.
Still the introductions and ideas make for interesting reading for anyone interested in EO for emotional wellbeing. Love EO as a support system/part of holistic living.
I recently discovered the benefits of essential oils and wanted to know more about them. Essential Oils for Emotional Wellbeing by Vannoy Gentles Fite is a fantastic source of information. The subject is well researched and Vannoy infused her broad experience in all aspects of using essential oils for emotional wellbeing. I now know which diffuser and which essential oil I need to invest in. I love the easy-to-follow recipes and all the health information provided in the book. I am inspired and looking forward to trying the recipes to improve my emotional health and create unique Christmas gifts. If you are interested in knowing more about the use of essential oil and get great recipes for bath balms, sprays and many more, this is the book for you. To put it in Vannoy’s words: “To be forewarned is to be forearmed”.
Thank you NetGalley and Llewellyn Publications for granting me an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
