As a teacher I am always keen to know more about autism and anything I can do in the classroom to support pupils so this book was quite helpful in that respect and gave me a few ideas to use.
This book provides a deeper understanding of what an autistic thinks likes in regards to "Theory of Mind or TOM." It also goes into greater depth when providing greater feedback on how to best serve autistic students in the classroom setting. Especially those who have sensory processing disorders besides.
As a parent of a child on the autism spectrum, this book shows me how a teacher should help children on the spectrum succeed in the world. I absolutely agree that they should never take behavior at face value and instead take the time to look deeper into what brought about such behavior. And from there, look for means to make classroom time more productive for the child, his classmates and for the teacher. This book takes time to explain the ABCs (read the book) and what are the ways where a teacher can handle the situation.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for granting me a copy of the book.
I am so excited to tell my co-workers about this book! Despite having extensive training on this topic, I was still able to gain a variety of techniques and recommendations for teachers. The scenarios are similar to those we encounter and I especially liked the segment on behavior.
As a teacher of gifted students, I've seen some who are extraordinarily smart yet have other issues as well, such as autism. This book helps me to better understand and work with those students.
As an Inclusion teacher, I found this book to be extremely helpful working with my students on the Spectrum. An invaluable resource that should be purchased by schools to aid their teachers to be more aware and sympathetic to a growing population.
I am a special needs assistant to a 8 year who has autism and I understand the difficulties she encounters and also her teachers face day to day teaching in the mainstream classroom. There are so many pressures and deadlines and not enough time in the day. This book was very useful and provided insight and practical advise which will definitely impact on the learning of not only my child but others in the class.
I also have a grandson with autism and am actively involved in his life so this book has broadened my understanding of his behaviour and gave me great coping strategies to encourage him and his friends .
With the increase of autism in the classroom I think this book would benefit all practitioners and I would recommend it wholeheartedly. Fantastic easy to understand practical book
I work with students that are on the spectrum and am always looking for relevant information that I can utilize. The author of this book provided a lot of ideas that I will use. The writing style was easy to navigate and the author did not spend too much time on one idea.
