But with determination, shear will and a touch of luck any thing is possible. The female lead is tough, independent and determined to save her sister and all the abused children from the streets. Her past drives her to take risks that could kill her. The male lead has is secrets and is determined to keep them to himself. He's a man of control and strength But when a surprise encounter leads him to the girl that saved his life as a child more times than he wants to recall, his control slowly slips away. The story revolves around Ophelia and her brother’s desire to present her to the ton in order to secure a marriage to a titled lord. Along the way she encounters Connor, who once saved her from being arrested by admitting he committed the crime. They never knew what happened to each other until now when they meet again. The victim of the theft, the Earl of Mar took Connor home with him, to feed him and then send him back to the streets. Mar, unmarried and childless decided to take Connor in, adopt him, see to his education and give him a start in his own business. The story is well written and holds your attention. The plot is well thought out and conveyed thru her writing. There is a HEA but before that occurs there is a lot of danger, intrigue, arrests and manipulation on the part of Connor’s father and other titled gentlemen. This is a great read and I would highly recommend it.

This will make your heart ache and your eyes water.

Christi Caldwell has written a sterling Regency novel of love, loss, vengeance, courage, survival, trials, tribulations, compassion and triumph. The story of Connor Steele and Ophelia Killoran is a marvellous addition to these wildly interesting families of commoners and nobilities.

The characters are recurring from previous series but this can be read as a standalone.
I look forward to Book 3. I highly recommend.

This is an e-arc from the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Another emotional book by Caldwell. Ophelia and Connor are linked by their childhood connection to Diggory and living on the streets. She was abused by the nobility, he was saved by the nobility. Those experiences color their opinions and worldviews. They are brought together by Connor's search for a child, and their tumultuous relationship takes them from the worst parts of town to the nicest parts.

The climax of the book has the highest stakes I've seen in a Caldwell book, and while I'm not a fan of drama, most of what happens is realistic and develops from the story. I enjoyed the story, and readers who like a lot of conflict will love it. I'm definitely looking forward to Gertrude's story, and I'm hoping Caldwell keeps us updated about the investigation Connor starts at the end.

This is the second of the Wicked Wallflower series and it does not disappoint.
The story centres on Ophelia Killoran who is grew up on the streets and was part of the notorious Diggory gang and now works for her brother in his gaming hell. She feels undervalued and is consumed by guilt for things that happened in her childhood. No one knows that she spends her nights saving the street urchins preyed upon in St. Giles. Investigator, Connor Steele is looking into the disappearance of a young boy. He meets Ophelia who he once knew from his past life on the streets. Caldwell takes you on an emotional journey and weaves a plot that will keep you interested throughout.. Cannot wait for the next installment.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review.

A stunningly emotional and heartbreakingly realistic book, the characters are so real they jump off the page .
I can’t say I’ve ever felt a story more , the scenes played out like a play in my head .
I’ve felt and reacted to every situation in this one, and I’m exhausted and exhilarated at the same time .
It’s a wonderful , long awaited story with Connor and Ophelia, also many favourites from this series and others .
I’ll be tapping my fingers patiently till the next instalment.
Five stars doesn’t seem enough .
I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley, and chose to submit a review

I enjoyed the first novel is Ms. Caldwell's Wicked Wallflower series and this novel was just as enjoyable. I like how Ms. Caldwell tells the stories of characters from her previous novels, leading to a deeper understanding of the characters. Ophelia Killoran grew up on the streets as part of Diggory's gang. She has terrible memories, which make her distrust and hate the nobility. As a child, she saved the life of a boy a few times, meeting him years later. Connor Steele saved Ophelia years ago and was adopted by a nobleman. He now works as an investigator, due to his past. Connor never forget Ophelia, but he works for the nobility now. Conner believes not all the nobility are bad, but many of them live in a bubble. He needs Ophelia's help on a case he is working on, but she is stubborn and distrustful. Ophelia helps many of the orphans of St. Giles. She sees things as black and white, while Connor sees shades of gray. They keep running into each other, since Ophelia's brother wants connections into the nobility for his club and for her to marry into the nobility, which causes anger within her. Connor has his own battles within the nobility. Both help each other, helping them to see a bigger picture from each of their perspectives. However, both have terrible pasts and secrets that they are keeping from each other. Will the secrets they keep destroy the love they have had for each other since they were kids?

Better than expected. The character development was actually really good. The tropes in the book prevented me from fully loving it, however, this is a solid plot with a solid idea. Definitely not a waste of an afternoon. I love all of Christi Caldwell books, just keep them coming.
