Ever since the thriller genre rage hit with "Gone Girl" I've continued to be let down by thriller who-done-it books. BUT NOT HERE! I was hooked from the very first chapter and half way through the book, I decided I knew who committed the crime. But boy oh boy a girl can be wrong. This book will keep you guessing until the very end. Ready to read a thriller than rivals that of Gillian Flynn novels? Buy this book today!

Very good thriller and suspense novel! The ending was definitely unexpected and not at all what I thought. Well written story but was a little too drawn out in places that made the book seem too slow at times and had me skipping parts. Other than that I would definitely recommend and want to thank netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.

Oh my God!! How do I even start to review this book? This has been easily one of the best books I've read in this year, one of the best book I've read ever. Such a brilliantly written book, such a brilliant style of writing. The story was always fluid and never made me feel like it was trying too hard. It had me hooked from the very beginning. When the prologue starts like that, what else is supposed to happen! And another thing which I've written in many of my mystery/thriller book reviews, whenever I've been reading a book like that I've always been trying to figure out who the killer was and 7 times out of 10, I've guessed it correctly. But this one when the big reveal was made, the way my jaws responded to the force of gravity. it has rarely done so. I could have never ever guessed it and I was never able to in the end. And a tip of the hat to the author, the characters that she created for this book were absolutely brilliant. You felt sorry for the characters that you were meant to feel sorry for and you hated the characters that you were meant to hate. Brilliantly written wonderful book, This was my first book by Brianna Labuskes but most certainly will not be the last.. I want to give this book 5 million stars but since only 5 is available, 5 stars it is. A big thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for giving me an opportunity to read this wonderful book as an ARC in return of my honest review.

This book had a thrilling Middle and ending, but the beginning was too slow for me. It had interesting characters and a couple twists I didn’t see coming. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for review.

This story begins with the kidnapping of a young child, and the repercussions this has on her very dysfunctional family and the officers investigating it.

Her family, outwardly rich and powerful, is steeped in both sexual and emotional abuse. The police officer investigating the crime is also carrying personal luggage, following the kidnapping and murder of her own daughter some years before. These events underpin the actions taken by the characters, and as we learn more of their personal lives, we begin to understand why they are acting in the way they do. There are many characters for whom the reader will feel great sympathy.

When the book began, I wasn't sure I would like it. It seemed very heavy with descriptive adjectives, as if this were a new author trying to follow a formula. The narrator changes each chapter, and the timeline bounces back and forth. While this was irritating for a few chapters, I soon fell into the rhythm and it actually worked very well.
By the end, I was taken aback with how the plot was unfolding and couldn't wait to find out what would finally happen. A strong book, handling difficult emotions without resorting to anything gratuitous.

For Detective Alice Garner, her latest case involving the disappearance of a judge’s daughter, cuts a little too close to home. Alice’s own daughter was kidnapped and murdered and the anguish she sees in the missing girl’s mother reminds her of her own debilitating grief. Still, Alice has a feeling that Charlotte Burke is feeling more than just fear for her missing daughter and she believes the answers lie within the opulent home of the powerful and prestigious Burke family. This book had me by the throat, it was nerve-wracking, scary and just plain sad. Maybe not the best read for a new mom
