Jaq's father's lied to his wife all the time, so Jaq decided that she would never get serious with anyone so they could lie to her and she ended up dating 3 or 4 guys at a time. That is until she met Patrick. There was just something about him that made her want "more". Patrick's ex-wife cheated on her, so now he was just focusing on school and work. That is until he met Jaq. But Jaq has a stalker and they may not get a chance to discover if there is "more".
It was a really nice twist with Jaq having a stalker. But I just couldn't get into the characters ... the banter just didn't do it for me. But the steamy scenes were good and I like the premise of the book.
I received a copy courtesy of BooksGoSocial through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Patrick and Jaq find romance amidst suspense of some one stalking her. This is a new author to me and enjoyed this book . Would read the new books written in this series..
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thank. Opinions are entirely my own.
I couldn't finish it. It moved really slow and I didn't feel connected to the main characters. It seemed like the author struggled with developing the connection between them. It felt forced.
I struggled with this book and ultimately didn’t finish. The story just moved too quickly and didn’t seem to flow naturally.
Wow this is one intense story. I really loved it, and I didnt think I would.
A different kind of Romance novel, in a good way.
I cannot wait to read more from this author!
Nope... can't do it.
You lose me when the first chapter is from a serial killer and is in detail. I don't mind reading this but I would have preferred to have the book open with one of the main characters and then get this person's POV later.

A promising start to the Risking Love series. I found myself quickly engaged in Patrick with its exhilarating storyline and character dynamics I am so glad I took the chance on this new to me author. I look forward to reading more by this author and recommend you add this to your read list.
Jaq meets Patrick at a bar and there is instant attraction. Jaq is a college student who is also a virgin and is currently dating several guys. Patrick just got divorced from his first wife. Within days they are talking about how they are in love with each other, but Jaq continues dating other guys and Patrick doesn't tell her about his ex-wife. There is a parallel story where a serial killer is preying on young women and Jaq is in his sights. At first I thought Patrick might be the serial killer given how intensely he seemed to feel about her, but it soon because clear it was a man that Jaq had dated once and who now is following her and leaving threatening voice mail messages on her phone. I found Jaq pretty immature for her age and the dialogue and somewhat cheesy dialogue during the love scenes made this a definite YA romance. The story wraps up with the serial killer caught, but then randomly Jaq finds out about Patrick's ex-wife and freaks out, breaking up with him. He chases her down and apologizes and they have sex for the first time. The epilogue has them preparing for a wedding. I had a really hard time getting into this book. Jaq was immature and Patrick was a bit too possessive. I'm not sure I want to read any more books in this series.
The beginning was a jumble of introducing all the girls with Jaq. Had trouble with the characters. They were very basic with no depth. I didn't like how Jaq was seeing two guys. She used Jaden while having Patrick on the side waiting to decide if he would be enough for her. There were too many recollections when Jaq and Patrick spoke that it just seemed like a filler. The killer at times seemed like a child throwing a temper tantrum. You would think a guy that holds his type of job would be somewhat intelligent and cunning. Overall the book was a very disjointed read for me. I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.
The story of Jaq, a young woman who doesn't want to get serious about one man until she meets Patrick, a great guy who hasn't been completely honest. Dating more than one guy could get complicated, but she told each one about the other. Now there's one man who won't take no for an answer. To make things even worse, there's a serial killer on the loose. Will she be able to give up her other boyfriends for Patrick or will secrets doom the relationship? Very suspenseful book. A real page tuner and I loved the plot. I received this book from Net Galley for an honest review and no compensation otherwise.
I just couldn't get into this book. I found it very shallow and the writing somewhat amateurish. I felt the characters lacked depth and substance. It is also a plot that has been done many times before.
Wow! What a nice surprise this book was! I've never read this author's work before, but now I'm looking forward to the next books in this series -- hopefully learning more about Jaq's friends. This story moved and at times really kept you on your toes -- the serial killer part of the story wasn't overdone and fit nicely into the story without being excessive. Really good romantic suspense! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for Netgalley.
4 1/2 Star Review.....
Patrick is an impressive first novel by Callie Carmen and definitely sets the foundation of what promises to be an exciting new series. Ms Carmen has written well-developed characters and a stirring plot that ensures readers are totally engrossed throughout the story.
I’m looking forward to the next instalment of the Ricking Love series and learning more about the wonderful support cast and their road to romance. A wonderful read that I highly recommend.
