'Valiant High' by Daniel Kibblesmith with art by Derek Charm and David Baron is a fun graphic novel look at Valiant's heroes as teenagers.

Valiant High is where you will find the young superheroes of the Valiant universe. Aric "X-O Manowar" Dacia is the star running back. Ninjak is a foreign exchange student. Faith and Livewire are best friends just trying to navigate their way through high school, especially when danger suddenly seems to be lurking.

This was a lot of fun to read, and even pretty funny in places. The characters younger selves seemed to be well thought out, and the art reminded me of other high school type comics I read.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Valiant Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I am a 34 year old woman who is unfamiliar with the Valiant Universe and not entirely sure why I requested this...at first I was worried that there were references I wouldn't get, it'd be a little too teen fiction for me, etc etc...Valiant High really surprised me though! It was cute and engaging and full of characters I want to know more about; definitely in the vein of Riverdale and Sabrina (a little more wholesome though) and if you're a fan of those shows/comics, this is a quick fun read.

I'm glad that, after years of being on my tbr list, I ended up reading "Valiant High." This story follows a high school where superheroes go but aren't allowed to use their powers (just like phones aren't permitted in real-life schools.) In the cast, we have the stereotypical characters in comics, but also a nice LGBTQ representation which was greatly appreciated. It was a simple graphic novel and I had a good time while reading it. Unfortunately, it was just that: a fun read to pass the time with. Although it is a story a little generic filled with corny jokes, I would still recommend it.

What was life like for our favorite superheroes before they were superheroes? You know, like in high school! Valiant High is not only an excellent start to a new series, it's a great way to get everyone in your family to share the same reading experience. Excellent concept written and illustrated by professionals who would never let us down, Valiant High is a great experience.

I don't know the Valiant universe, but I managed to have a good time with this comic. For lovers of superhero stories, this is highly recommended.

I was unable to read this because I could not open the file and I could not contact the publisher about it.

Prior to Valiant High, the only Valiant titles I had read were a few volumes of the ongoing Faith series. Despite this, I was still able to fully enjoy Valiant High as its own book, which I always appreciate in a crossover book! I'm sure I would have appreciated the title even more if I had read more Valiant titles, but as I was able to understand and follow the story anyway, I was very, very pleased and subsequently purchased the title for my library's collection, despite us only having the aforementioned Faith series.

Archie, but with superheroes!

Honestly, there aren’t enough comic books starring teens. There definitely aren’t enough comic books exploring adult heroes AS teens. But this does both and I am totally here for it.

I had Valiant High on my radar but it wasn’t until James at Isotope Comics (shoutout to my amazing store!) placed issue one in my hands that I knew I had to read the series. The art on this story is vivid and attractive, as are the characters.

I loved getting to know various Valiant characters through this story, which was the focus versus the story. I read Faith and I have Livewire on my TBR but seeing them and so many more characters made me even more interested in the Valiant universe. I especially loved how a character was called on a non-consensual kiss.

Wish there were more than 4 issues!

While I didn't find the collection as "side-splitting" as the promotional copy mentions, I did enjoy Dan Kibblesmith's take on all the Valiant characters in a tongue-in-cheek high school setting (even with some limited familiarity with at least half the characters).

Valiant High takes a familiar trope - what if your superheroes went to high school - and has a lot of fun with it. While a comic book fan, I'm not very familiar with the Valiant line. This therefore counted as my first introduction to the heroes. I don't think it is necessary to have read the main books to understand and enjoy this little graphic novel. What I enjoyed most was the way it played with the usual cliches you see in comic books and graphic novels set in high school. Would recommend for school and teen libraries.

I love superheroes, so naturally, I was drawn to this comic book and I needed to read to meet this group of young heroes from Valiant High.

I liked the art of both the cover and the inside. I liked the color choices as well, I felt myself reading one of my favorite comic from the 90s full of brighit colors and that made me feel some how at home..

I enjoyed the stories, even if I didn't saw that as something new in the sun, as we say in Brazil, on this comic area. Anyway, I enjoyed following a new universe of superheroes with their narrative and dangers. We need new hero stories and Valiant High gives us that.

I received this book from Net Galley in exchange of an honest review.

Readers with at least a passing familiarity with Valiant characters will have the most fun with this short series. It’s a lighter version of the Valiant universe of heroes, with all of them portrayed as either students or faculty at a high school for kids with powers. There’s a typical teenagers dealing with life sort of plot – friends, jocks, nerds, bullies, dating – but it all has a super-powered edge to it. And, of course, there’s an evil plot to attack the school and take over the world, so everyone has to put aside differences and work together to stop it.

Though Amanda McKee (aka Livewire) is the main focus of the story, she interacts with all of the other characters, including Faith, Quantum, Woody, Archer and, perhaps the most amusing presence in the book, Bloodshot. In this iteration, he’s Coach Bloodshot and his primary communication method is yelling. He’s also a stereotypically aggressive high school gym teacher, having students play his version of dodgeball – in Bloodball there are no rules and all powers are allowed.

Valiant High is a fun, quick read and the final action sequence is well done. There’s also a lot of diversity among the characters, not only in gender and race, but also LGBTQ representation. The collected volume of all four issues includes a gallery at the end showcasing some character designs, cover art and storyboarding.

This book was ...fun...sort of. I confess to being an avid reader of many of the excellent Valiant titles. To read about some of my favourite characters placed in this "Archie" style high school setting, was almost too much for me to bear as a fan: to be able to appreciate it the way the creators of this title intended. I had to take a step back and consider, would I enjoy this title if I were the audience it was written for (teens, perhaps young adults). I think I would. There are many amusing moments and the story is strong enough to launch this series. I recommend for the young and anyone else who might "get a kick" out of seeing these heroes in a different light.

While being a superhero comic, this collection actually embraced a lot of high school “truths”. You have your segregation into cliques, changing friendships, budding romances, crushes, and feelings of being left out.

However, this time everybody has their own superpower to make them unique. The artwork was a lot of fun and the language was censored (if this carried over to the final copy this is great for all age groups).

What I enjoyed is the fact that this seemed to be a wholesome adventure with a lot of lessons hidden within it. The only problem, like with any series, I kind of got left hanging at the end.

5 stars.

I loved it. It feels nice to read graphical novel/comics again. This instalment is a great introductory point to this well-established world filled with super-powered humans. High school is always a good place to start a story. Valiant High is paced at turbo-speed but you don’t feel like it’s rushed at all.

There were (too) many characters and their respective powers to keep track in the beginning. Most are introduced up front and I had to keep referring to the introductory page in the format of a yearbook. This is like the comic book version of 2016 Suicide Squad movie.

I don’t know much about comic graphics but to me they were excellent. The aim from the introductory chapter was clear: Right from the start readers already have lots of questions waiting for answers: Will Amanda end up with Aric? Will Peter become the Homecoming King and finally pluck up the courage to ask Kris out? Will Flamingo reunite with old friends?

This story collects many characters from Valiant Entertainment comics and puts them in a high school setting.

I haven’t read many Valiant comics before, so I felt a little left out reading this story. I’m sure there were some jokes about the characters that I would have understood if I was familiar with the characters. The only one I recognized was X-O Manowar. I wish there was more to the story than just showing a variety of characters from their comics.

This comic reminded me of other series by comic book publishers that make all of their characters interact with each other. DC Comics has a few series which their super heroes in a school setting, such as DC Super Hero Girls and DC Comics: Secret Hero Society. Those series were better for me because I know the characters of DC Comics much better than Valiant entertainment.

If you’re a fan of Valiant comics, this would be a great comic for you!

Valiant High is a graphic novel that is about the Valiant characters as teenagers in high school who are to learn their powers.
A great super hero comic book.

I must say the graphics were good on this comic book. I am not familiar with the Valiant High group at all. They remind me of the superhero comic books of old only updated. I found it a little hard to follow the storyline. I think it would be entertaining to middle school to younger high school children.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
