Another hit from author Kelly Jamieson. Every single book of the ACES Hockey series is a great read, and this one was no exception. A standalone book that can be read without having read any of the previous books, the reading experience is enhanced if you have read the other books in order, as it helps to provide a better background of characters that make an appearance in this book. Given that all books in this series are quick, easy, and wonderful reads, reading them all isn't a hardship.
This book follows two characters, each with a strong personality but in different ways. Jodie is strong, because she has no other choice in order to take care of herself and her daughter. She is fierce and personable and doesn't shy away from what she wants. Nick is the epitome of the brooding hulk, however he is dealing with his own set of demons. When these two opposites start to interact on a regular basis, their differences is what makes them so great together. I really enjoyed their journey, and can't wait to read more from this author.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Nick and Jodie’s first meeting doesn’t go very well, but there is still a mutual attraction. Jodie is a single mom/business owner and Nick is a hockey player. Due to events in his past, Nick is stand offish and a relationship phobic. Their relationship is hot and steamy, but also very sweet. Nick has a lot of great qualities, but also a lot of insecurities. I did find myself skimming over some paragraphs, but still a good read.
No cheating, HEA, stand-alone.
I apologize I thought my review had posted but it did not, so again I apologize.I purchased this book as well as ordered Game On. Also going back to the previous books when I learned it was a series.
Nick and Jodie were a great dynamic. Nick is broody and standoffish, where Jodie is independent and a great mom. Nick has had a hard life and when he joins the Aces Hockey he finds his place. Then he meets Jodie, offers a place for her and her daughter a place to stay tell they get back up on their feet. As they spend more and more time together at first it doesn't go well and then a bond develops. They have there ups and downs but in the end find their true romance.
I loved this heartwarming, sweet love story. Enjoyed reading Nick and Jodie’s love story. I love the banter between the two and their first impressions of each other were funny but as they spend time together they realized what they saw is not who they are. Misconceptions, insecurities and Nick’s past challenges their relationship. Engaging and at times emotional read. Could not put it down. Recommended read.
This was a pretty good read. The writing flowed well for the most part, but there were a few chapters that I felt dragged a little. This was the first book in this series that I've read, and at times all the names were a little overwhelming. Nick and Jodie were good together for the most part, but I did get annoyed at Jodie's attitude toward Nick when he tried to help her. She didn't NEED a man, if she had one, it was because she WANTED one. Okay, but when the man goes out of his way in a blizzard to make sure you and your kid make it home and don't freeze to death, I would be a little more grateful. Also, she calls him a coward because he didn't want to take a chance. I can't imagine the emotions that a guy would go through when he dates a single mother. She might not NEED him, but I don't think she would like it very much if he didn't want anything to do with her daughter either. It was just a hard situation for me to relate to I guess. I did like that Jodie helped Nick through some tough times, and made him see that everything wasn't his fault. Zyana was a cute character, and she did add to the story. The ending was sweet, and I liked their HEA.
I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Woo! FInally! I have been a fan of this author for so long but have felt that the last few in this series have hit a bit of a plateau. Big Stick busted out of the gate with a furry and kept its hold the entire way through.. I loved the hero and heroine in this book and their chemistry and connection just jumped off the pages in such a fantastic way. Watching our heroine slowly break down the hero was so real and well written. I read this one straight though and even cancelled an appointment to make sure that I could read it all the way through to the end. Such a fun and sexy read!
Author Jamieson offers up a sports-romance filled with emotion, humor, and healing. And lots of sexiness! A player determined to remain a bachelor and not be needed by anyone and a single mom by choice become an unlikely couple is the latest Ace’s Hockey novel..
Ummm, the only regret that I ever feel after picking up a new book from Kelly Jamieson is that it’s over way to soon. It’s bittersweet experience. I get so enthralled with her characters and their budding romance, so much so that I completely lose track of time and accidentally devour the book in one sitting. #FirstWorldProblems
Anyway, her release, Big Stick was an awesome addition to Jamieson’s Aces Hockey series. Nick and Jodi completely captivated me with their fun and sexy love story. I loved their foreplay (as well as the hiccups!!) - these two together are hot as hell.
But what also really got me with this book was that their relationship was also tender and sweet. They made my heart race as well as swoon. Each time they overcame a hurdle, I silently cheered them one. I adored this couple!!
You honestly cannot go wrong with any book from Kelly Jamieson but her hockey romances especially kick ass. If you haven’t picked this book up yet or any of the other ones in this series, do yourself a favor and grab it today!!
I always enjoyed Jodie and her daughter in the previous book and looked forward to seeing them get a HEA. Which they finally get... its just not always as easy as one would like it to be at the beginning. It take Nick some time to realize that is exactly who he needs in his life.
The last thing Nick wanted was to have Jodie stay in his guesthouse. It was only temporary while she could find something else since she just arrived in Chicago. Every interaction was filled with the need to stay away but he kept returning to help her. There is a thin line between love and hate especially when the lines begin to blur. He slowly begins to feel more and it will set his world on a tailspin. Love this series!
Jodie and Nick were so, so great. Kelly Jamieson's Aces Hockey series is just perfect. The characters are always relatable and real along with hot and sexy. :)
I adore the Aces Hockey series and this is yet another great addition to the series. I loved the characters and their journey. I love that whole gruff hero who melts a bit as a result of the heroine. Add in a single mother heroine and I'm in. This was a sweet and heartwarming romance that really impacted me. I think the child was handled very well with this one which often isn't the case. Really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it!
Nick is a Aces hockey player who likes to be left alone to work on his house and hang with his few chosen friends. Jodi is a free spirit single mom who by chance is now living in Nick's guest house. Nick has never wanted a family, girlfriend, or even kids yet by doing a simple favor for a team mate he appears to have it all. Nick and Jodi have demons of their own to work through to be together.
Great emotional characters that have many sides to them. Loved that Jodi is a single mom who designs sex toys. Hello hockey hottie oh la la. I am loving the Aces series. I can't wait for more!!
Great Book! I love this series and hockey in general.
Nick is a serious grump, but he has a troubled past. It's the anniversary of his brother's passing and he still hasn't forgiven himself for not being able to stop him from dying.
Jodie is a single mom who picked up her entire life and business to follow her best friend from New York. Nick is convinced to rent Jodie his guest house on a temporary basis. See how hot things get between the brooding hockey player and the single mom who co-owns a sex toy company.
Great story, I absolutely love this series by Kelly!
Meet Jodie, she just moved to Chicago to be close to her bff and run their adult specialty company! She's also got an amazing 2 year old daughter Zee, who when she meets Nick thinks he's a giant and she's some what afraid of him!
Nick has a lot of baggage himself, and Kelly address' the most important issue in hockey today in this story and I commend her for bringing attention to this! Watch Nick as he struggles with his feelings for Jodie & Zee, and the demons that plague his mind.
Amazing story don't miss this one, Kelly you rocked this one! 5+ hockey pucks for this story!
Big Stick is the seventh book in the Aces Hockey Series. Each book can be read as a standalone but the characters are interconnected between books. Big Stick follows grouchy hockey player Nick and single mom Jodie. It took me a little while to get into the book but after the first part it flowed a better for me and I really enjoyed the book. This story isn't full of drama, it more of a low drama romance with easily remedied conflicts. It was a good read and I will pick up the next one.
I received a copy of this ebook to review from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
I liked this book. I found Jodie and Nick to be real adults who are not going out of their way to create fake angst. The story is coherent and their chemistry is hot hot hot. I definitely hope this is a trend and more romance novels get written in this style.
Thank you for this copy and congrats to the author.
This is the seventh book in the Aces Hockey series and I have enjoyed reading all of the books in this delightful series. Each story is a standalone but the all the characters are entertaining and interconnected. This engaging, sexy, feel good story revolves around Nick, a hockey player who doesn’t think he deserves love. I liked this charming story and the connection between Nick and Jodie. Nick and Jodie are brought together when Nick reluctantly agrees to let Jodie and her two year old daughter stay in his coach house. At first they are wary of each other but their feelings for each other grow as they spend time together.
Nick is a grouchy, standoffish loner and he doesn’t care that people think he is a jerk. He doesn’t have any experience with relationships and he has no interest in getting involved in one. However, Nick has never met anyone like Jodie. Jodie is a breath of fresh air and helps Nick look at his life differently. I felt bad for Nick because he is dealing with a lot of issues.
Jodie is open, honest and doesn’t play games. She is outgoing and fun and works hard to be a good mom. She is also a part owner of sex toy company. Jodie is strong but also finds it a struggle being a single mom and owning her own business. When she meets Nick she is attracted to him but also finds his attitude frustrating.
I found it easy to connect with Nick and Jodie and I liked them. Life hasn’t been easy for either one of them and they have different reasons for being hesitant to start a relationship. Even though they are different, they compliment each other. Jodie is friendly and loving, whereas Nick is closed off and afraid to show his feelings. There is a spark between them they can’t ignore. Hopefully, they can help each other become better people and enjoy life.
In this seventh book in the Aces Hockey series, Nick isn't really interested in doing much to develop a relationship with anyone outside of his teammates. It's not so much that he is anti-social -- it's just that he's got a lot on his mind, especially as the anniversary of losing someone is upon him. When he begrudgingly goes to a team party, he ends up meeting Jodie who is everything he isn't -- friendly, talkative, and just nice to everyone. Nick isn't interested, at least at first.
Jodie has moved to Chicago for the sex toy business she runs with her friend and co-owner Kendra and it's time for her to find a place of her own to let Kendra and her hockey player boyfriend have some privacy. When someone suggests to Nick that Jodie needs a place and would be perfect for the empty carriage house on his property, he's not really eager for Jodie to move in, but he goes along with it.
What follows is the slow takedown of the emotional walls Nick has erected around himself. Through Jodie's care and understanding, he realizes a lot of things, including the fact that his feelings for Jodie are growing and that they could have so much more. I really liked how Jodie melts Nick's cold heart and how they come to rely on each other.
There weren't any huge surprises in Big Stick, and I did like these two characters, especially how Jodie uncovers a side of Nick that even he didn't know he had. I did find the beginning a bit slow for my taste, but other readers may feel differently.
I liked Nick's interactions with Jodie's daughter Zyana and in spite of his sometimes gruff attitude, I did like how Nick interacted with her throughout the story. It showed he really had a heart after all.
Overall, Big Stick had some really nice moments and is a low drama sort of contemporary romance where conflicts are resolved fairly easily to get to the HFA or HEA if that is what you are looking for.
An ARC was provided for review.
Nick, the resident loner of the Aces Hockey team, steps outside his comfort zone to attend his best friend and teammate's birthday party. While there, he meets Jodie and is not impressed. Jodie and her best friend co-own an adult toy business. After her best friend fell in love and married an Aces hockey player, Jodie decides to embrace life and move as well. Having no family left in Chicago, Jodie packs up her daughter and moves in with the newlyweds.
Three years after the death of his brother and Nick still can't get passed the overwhelming guilt he feels. Although he knows he's not responsible for his brother's death, he can't help but feeling like he could've done something more to help with his brother's depression. Nick also feels as though he doesn't deserve happiness because his brother should be living the life he is as he was the better hockey player. It's affected Nick so much, that he has decided he never wants to be responsible for anyone ever again. Until....
Unable to find a suitable home for Zyanna, Jodie reluctantly accepts Nick's offer to move into his coach house. Nick values his alone time, but also feels as though he owes it to his best friend to help him out. When Jodie and Zyanna start wondering around his property, he's irritated, but also intrigued. Nick never wanted kids, but finds Zyanna intelligent and adorable. He finds her mom, brilliant and desirable and chatty! When a winter storm throws them together, sparks fly and he begins to wonder "what if". When Jodie has to leave town for a business trip, Nick volunteers to watch Zyanna. While in his care, Zyanna becomes sick. Nick, not knowing what to do, feels horrible when he ends up having to take her to Urgent Care. He wrongly blames himself for her illness and uses it as an excuse to reinforce his belief that he's better off alone. In the process, he breaks Jodie and Zyanna's hearts.
Loved, loved, loved this novel!!! Grief is real and molds our beliefs, feelings. It causes us to believe things that aren't necessarily true. Although it was Jodie's nature to be chatty, she excelled at listening when Nick needed an ear. She and Zyanna helped Nick become a more complete person. The transformation was endearing! Nick's interactions with Zyanna were priceless! Zyanna's "gwiant" endearment was so adorable! She had him wrapped around her finger from the start! Epic love story! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
