I didn't realize this book was a sequel to The Hook-Up until I was over halfway through the novel. I did have one or two moments where I felt that I was missing an inside joke between Sophie--Bella's little sister and Cain--Christian's identical twin brother. But that didn't take anything away from Bella and Christian's story. Bella is a rich girl from Boston whose family has a vacation home in a tourist town on the coast of Maine. Bella is engaged to Bradley Alexander--was--until she found lewd texts from and to him from various women only days before the wedding. Feeling vulnerable and inept at sexual behaviors sue to the types of texts on Bradley's phone, Bella asks local bad-boy Christian to help her lose her prudish and close-minded ways. Since Bella is still engaged Christian declines her offer--until Bella texts Christian on her wedding day to come pick her up. The duo spend the weekend together. Bella's journey is more than learning about sex--it is also her own self-discovery. Before she blindly followed Bradley because he offered her what she always wanted--a family, stability, the dream of motherhood. Bella's mothering nature is what lead her to social work and the job she left just days before her wedding--social worker at an adoption agency.
Since Bella gave up her apartment, quit her job, and broke up with Bradley, she has no where to go. She manipulates Bradley into giving her the house that he bought as a wedding gift to her in the small tourist town. Bella decides to remain in Maine to begin her new life. In this sleepy tourist town doesn't have many opportunities for an adoption social worker, so Bella begins working at one of the local bars which Christian also happens to work in. Christian inadvertently fulfills one of Bella's dreams and in the process his own.

I was so excited to read The Breakup. The blurb pulled me in and I just knew that this would be a fantastic read. Unfortunately it wasn't and I'll tell you why. Let me start by saying that I did not read the first book so I went into this story with no back ground on these characters. I have to be honest, I absolutely disliked Christian and his actions. Just when I started to like him, he did something that ruined it. Bella was an okay character but I just could not connect with her. It's hard to enjoy a story when you can't connect with the characters and you dislike one of the main characters. All I can say, is that this story just did not work for me.

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title compliments of NetGalley and the publisher**

The Breakup is the second book in The Jordan Brothers series and I was so excited to get my hands on this book following the first book in the series. I will recommend that you read the first book, The Hookup, before diving into this one because this book takes place during the same time period as the first book and you could be lost or confused without having knowledge from the first book. This book is about the sister and brother of the main characters from The Hookup.

Christian Jordan is one of those guys who is completely afraid to commit to a relationship, so instead he sleeps around. He also is the father to a son whose mother is the ex-girlfriend of his twin brother's (you can imagine the relationship between brothers now!) and he shares custody with his mother with whom his son resides. Christian is very self-centered (even though he claims to be a good father) and there were definitely times in this book where I found it hard to connect with him. For someone that is a great father, there are some of his actions that wouldn't scream that to me, while others definitely did. He was a hard character to fully like.

Bella Bigelow is about to have the wedding of her dreams when she discovers that her soon-to-be husband has been cheating on her. Bella has always been a rule follower and one who is a people pleaser. She is naive and sheltered in some respects and she has basically given up everything for the man she is supposed to be marrying. After taking stock of what she wants and trying to decide what is best for her, she finally decides to call off the wedding just before the ceremony. Her first call is to Christian to ask him to help her flee.

Christian rides to the rescue and he and Bella escape to his family's cabin for a couple days to decompress. Not only do they begin to get to know one another, the connection is obvious and immediate. Sparks fly and emotions do too when both find themselves getting more attached to the other than they feel they should or want to. Will they be able to make a go of a relationship or will Christian's relationship phobia end it before it begins?

Overall I really enjoyed this book, but I wish I would have been able to say I loved Christian more than I did. Bella was sweet and sincere and I loved how she grew throughout the book and was able to find who she really was in the midst of all the turmoil she went through. I'm not sure if there will be more books in this series, but if there are, I definitely will check them out!

After meeting Bella and Christian in Sophie and Cain's book, I couldn't wait to dive into their book! These two needed each other and it was a great book!

This just felt really rushed at the end and I felt like some of the beginning of the book could've been shortened.

I have read several previous books by Erin McCarthy and have enjoyed them. This one did absolutely nothing for me.
Christian and Bella were both annoying to me. Christian especially. I can't see even in the book world how these two characters work.
With that being said, I still enjoyed the ending. Glad to see Cain is doing well. I don't really recommend this one though. Maybe others enjoy it. I don't know.

The cover is beautiful!

Most romances follow a certain pattern; boy and girl meet, yadda yadda, happy ending. Generally, important themes are extraneous and not part of the story. “The Breakup” is different. While never heavy-handed, indeed, as part of what moves the story along, the reader is invited to ponder a number of serious questions. What does a person lose in pursuit of perfection, and what happens when perfection is not enough? What is the cost of relying on external validation for one’s self-worth, and what happens when it is not forthcoming?

Both of the main characters in this book are good people. Both are imperfect because human beings are imperfect, but neither one is dark nor twisted by her or his past. There is no silly and unnecessary angst in “The Breakup,” but rather the action flows from the situation and the characters of the protagonists. I don’t like spoilers so I am not going to give any but I will say that this is not a thrill ride, rather it is a good look at what happens when people grow up and accept responsibility for their own actions.

I really liked “The Breakup.” It was well-written, which is of great importance to me, well-edited (and that cannot be said about every book these days) and flowed right along. I liked both of the main characters and enjoyed the minor ones. If you want to read a romance which does not put you through an emotional ringer but gives you something to think about while you watch two nice people make their way to each other while growing as individuals, this is the book for you. I can’t remember when I enjoyed a romance so much. Five stars.

I have been dying for this book ever since I read the first Jordan Brother's book! Now I got to read Bella' and Christain's book and I LOVED every second of it!! Their story was a rollercoaster and I did not put the book down for the entire afternoon!

I didn't think I was going to like Bella, but turns out I LOVED her! She just needed someone like Christain to make her a likable person!!

I really tried to like this story but I couldn't do it. I didn't like Christian. It was hard to get past the fact that he had a baby with his brother's ex (I don't care how much you had a crush on someone in high school, sleeping with a sibling's ex is forbidden and just gross). But that aside, his character was just a jerk most of the time. Yes, he was better than Bradley, Bella's ex, but only slightly. I kept hoping that he would grow as a character, but when he's still sleeping around and supposedly has deep feelings for Bella, I was done with him. I liked Bella slightly better as the book moved on. She was a doormat at first, but I liked her more when she took control of her life. That being said, I skimmed a lot of the book because it seemed to be a study of lust rather than a read about two people in love. This was a read I would not recommend.

A sweet and cute yet predictable read. I loved that we were able to see. Characters from previous books and were able to get a glimpse of more of their stories!

This is the second book in this series and I really hope you read the first book "The Hookup" because you will get a better picture of who you are dealing with. This was Bella's book along with Christain. At the last book I wasn't crazy about Bella, not that she was bad I know she loved her sister Sophie but some of things she said annoyed me a little and she also seemed so superficial. Then we have Christain, we hated him in the last book, and these two have some demons to conquer and they start overcoming them together..Redemption my friends!..

Ah!! I'm so happy I got this book!! I love this series!! I am so hoping there's going to be more!!! There is one more Jordan brother?! So please!! Lol this is Christian and Bella book the second in the series, they don't have to be read in order although they are so good your better off! Christian is a twin and his brothers book is the first book, he's kinda a the slutty brother? Lol he did some pretty low stuff to his twin but there were reasons behind it also!! Bella is the prissy goody goody sister of the character from the first book, she is in every word a princess!! She's engaged to be married to such a jerk!! Well she's gonna get back at her fiance and took around with Christian! This ends up in a funny highly entertaining story!! There's plenty of steam, laughs and a little drama! Overall it was a great read!! I definitely recommend it!! I did like the first book better but that's not saying that I didn't like this one cuz I did!! Thank you NetGalley and loveswept penguin random house for sharing this book with me! And a big thank you to Erin McCarthy for writing such great stories!! I truly love your words!!

Bella’s life was nothing like she expected. All her hopes and dreams faded away one night after finding out some devastating news. Always made to feel like she was never enough and being manipulated into a situation she takes matters into her own hands. Enlisting Christian’s help was enough to help her regain the self confidence she has lost. He will stand by her side and help her through the next chapter of her life as he comes to grips with an unexpected problem that will test his patience. Great series and I absolutely loved how both brothers were entirely different but wanted the same thing in returned. Being loved for who you are is the greatest treasure.
