I’ve had this ARC sitting in my Kindle for years and I have to wonder if I read it back when I received it what my perception would have been. There’s a strong case of insta-lust and an enemies-to-lovers trope (which I always enjoy) as well as some sad backstories for both main characters. Both Ava and Caleb are in their 30s (30 and 35) but they act a lot younger in my opinion. I felt you could have told me they were 22 and 26 and I would have believed you. I did like that they didn’t go straight into insta-love, and that it did get built on friendship, but I felt a lot of their relationship was unhealthy and wish we could have seen better progression or growth as opposed to how it went.
Seriously?! Samantha Young is an amazing writer and does it again! This book is amazing with all the feels, the strings you feel pulling in your chest as you read to find out what is going to happen, the banter between the two, and you just can't get enough of it all. Eva and Caleb meet and instantly annoy each other, yet you feel the connection and fate has other plans for these two. As Eva and Caleb continue to run into each other, they take you for an adventure that draws you into their lives and you hope something is going to happen, but then you'r not sure. What's even better is that Caleb is a hot Scottish man that you instantly wish you had your own Caleb, he draws you in with his honesty and yet at times secrecy. While Eva is an independent, just as honest woman, and who also has things that come to light between these two. Eva and Caleb take you on a whirlwind journey and you want to go along for the ride and figure out what will become of these two. Fantastic, a must read!
I have only read one other book by Samantha Young, and I did not love it. I typically like to give authors another try, but I was nervous to try this one after hearing some reviews from friends.
The cover is so cute, and coupled with the description, I had high hopes I would love this one. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. The banter between the characters was actually quite mean, rather than poking-in-good-fun as enemies-to-lovers banter should be. Their relationship was toxic, and I could not get on board with the two of them together.
”Never fear, babe. I’m about tae ruin you.”
Fight or Flight. WOW! What a knockout novel! I fell so hard for this love story. Hook. Line. Sinker. Samantha Young brought her A-game to this tale. Fight or Flight is ROMANCE PERFECTION.
I thought I’d be reading just a fun little romcom.
Wrong.
This is a broken and beautiful romance, laugh-out-loud comedy, moving drama, and heartfelt tragedy all rolled into one addictive read.
I thought I would laugh, but not cry.
Wrong.
I laughed, cried, smiled, swooned, and even raged, feeling every possible feel.
I thought I’d like it, but not love it as much as Samantha Young’s other sensations.
Wrong. So wrong.
I fell in love so hard with the strong and stubborn, hot Scot and Viking-looking God, Caleb, and beautiful and brave, Ava. I couldn’t LOVE this story enough!
Caleb and Ava. I absolutely loved Ava and Caleb the Hot Scot and Viking God, and ate up their story! Ava and I were spirit sisters in the great manners crusade and positivity attracting positivity. This heroine learns to let loose and live life without regret. I adored her! Caleb, Great Scot, where do I begin?!? The hot Scot is part hero part huge arse with a huge heart stole my heart. He’s the ultimate hero.
Ava’s sass mixed with Caleb’s broody persona was addicting. The angst between this hero and heroine and is off-the-charts hot. The banter is laugh-out-loud funny and I couldn’t get enough! It was a heady mix of cringe-worthy with combustible and caring moments. This strong hero and heroine who are even stronger together. Phenomenal.
Laugh-out-loud banter, witty dialogue, complex characters with fire-hot chemistry, and an enemy-friends-lovers storyline stemming with serendipity make Fight or Flight one riveting romance that hits every feel. A romantic roller coaster of emotional highs and lows and so much heart. I really felt these words as if I were the heroine telling this tale. I laughed and cried my way through this book. My heart shattered yet soared to Cloud Nine. I FELT IT ALL!
Fun, fierce, and feel-worthy, Fight or Flight is truly UNFORGETTABLE. Readers will fall hard for this romance that’s full of heat, heart, humor, soul, and every feel. A story that’s sexy and soulful with strong characters that captivate from beginning to end. Entertaining. Enthralling. Emotionally rich. This tale’s theme of throwing away expectations and preconceptions, taking risks without regrets, and just living for the moment speaks to the soul.
Utterly dazzling and downright addictive, Fight or Flight is Samantha Young’s BEST BOOK since On Dublin Street. Fight or Flight gripped me so hard that I was glued to every word. This emotional adventure is UNPUTDOWNABLE. A HEARTFELT HIGH. If I could, I would bestow every star to this book that BLEW ME AWAY. I can’t recommend this romance highly enough!
A top, six-star read of 2018 and lifetime read!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 take my heart stars
Fight or Flight lured me in with the lovely banter between Ava and Caleb and kept me going with a love story expertly woven with steam and raw emotion. I adored this book. so much. Samantha Young does such a great job creating characters brimming with chemistry and believable connection. It bought me back to the book to my first of Young's novels, On Dublin Street.
“ A Norse God. A bastard. An arsehole. But the man Sure knows what he’s doing in the bedroom.”
“ you” - I gestured to him, saying the word slowly so his tiny brain could compute -“stole. My. Seat .”
“You”- he pointed down at me-“Are. A. Nut job.”
What can I say about this book. Wow wow wow !
Firstly I love the main characters, Ava and Caleb .They were funny they were feisty, stubborn and lovable.
I found myself laughing and crying through the whole book,I was on a complete emotional rollercoaster.I found myself eager to get to the next page. I didn’t want to put the book down.
It gave me everything I wanted in a book, there is happy moments sad moments ,moments of vulnerability. Moments of hot Sizzling sex and I loved it.
Samantha Young has done it again. Another amazing book ,She has brought to life some amazing characters.
I am really hoping that we’re going to see Harper’s And Jamie’s Story . Both characters have an air of mystery about them and I’m really wanting to know more .
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read and review one of your titles. Unfortunately, this title didn’t work for me and I have chosen not to review it.
Please also let me extend my apologies for this being so incredibly late (as I am guessing it’s more than obvious I didn’t review at this point) as I like to hold negative or DNF reviews until a title is no longer available on NetGalley, and sometimes posting once it has been archived slips my mind.
This story was adorable!
I found myself not being able to put it down. It had me from the first page.
I loved the romance so much. Amd hownstly just kept hoping there would be more, even as I saw the page numbers dwindling haha
This was absolutely adorable and so much fun! Haven't you ever wondered if your mister right would somehow sit down right next to on the plane? And what if you don't quite hit if off...well this book is the answer to all your daydreams and it was such a pleasure reading it.
Samantha Young's ability to tell a fun and emotional romance is abundantly clear in her earlier work and continues to remain on display here. Fight or Flight's one flaw comes in a male love interest that is difficult to root for and a resolution to the relationship that does not match the emotional investment gained throughout the rest of the novel. Well-written and with definite appeal for readers of contemporary romance, Fight or Flight is a fair novel that ultimately missed the mark with this reader.
Incredible book I loved every minute of i This book has amazing characters and the story was so great I loved everything bout this story.
This book was not for me. I know grumpy heroes are many people's favourite, and while I can get behind them occasionally, Caleb wasn't just grumpy, he was disgustingly, unforgivably rude. The way he treated Ava was horrifying. I kept hoping his behaviour would change, but it didn't.
Fabulous romance! Well written. I've already read it twice. and. I'm likely. to read it again. Loved it.
As always Samantha young never disappoints ! I loved this book I was expecting a romantic love story and boy did I get it. It wasn’t my usual storyline but I was drawn in with both
Characters and enjoyed the twists and turns while waiting to see how it all came together. My absolute favourite author has done it again
An adorable romance for anyone who loves to travel and the hate-to-love trope! Would recommend to any reader looking for a romance full of witty banter and sparks!
This one was definitely not for me! I hated how mean he was to her the entire time. Definitely not attractive.
Everything about the Fight or Flight synopsis called out to me! Flight delays, an arrogant Scotsman, a (likely) hate-to-love plot. I was very excited. Once I started reading this contemporary romance, however, I found that I couldn’t really get into the writing. And I also found that I didn’t particularly click with Ava or Caleb (much less love them and root for them). I continued reading though because the overall plot did have me interested and engaged.
And in the end I did find that I enjoyed the story overall. I guess I just didn’t particularly like the two main characters, their interactions, and how it was delivered (aka the author’s writing style). That’s not to say that other readers also didn’t click with this book! I’ve spoken with a number of book bloggers, in fact, who really enjoyed this one!
I finished this one a bit ago and it was definitely a page turner for me.
I'm still trying to figure out how I felt about it from a reviewer standpoint. It was an interesting story, with the dude being too much of a jerk at times, but I really liked how it ended. I would say 3.5 stars from me.
This is a romantic comedy between enemies to lovers, and the hero is both Scottish and bearded. Ava and Caleb meet on a plane when Caleb steals Ava's first class seat from her, and through perhaps fate, Caleb ends up stranded in Boston with Ava. The two explore the city together and explore their chemistry. The conflict of the story is around Ava's reluctance to risk it all with Caleb. I really enjoyed Ava's friendships, but I found Caleb to be a bit of a jerk at times, and I think this book should come with a content warning.
This one didn't work for me. I DNF'ed around 45% - I couldn't seem to make myself like the characters enough to keep reading. Also, some of the elements in the story gave me pause and made me uncomfortable in a not so good way.
I am normally a big fan of Samantha Young, I'll try again but sadly, this one didn't work for me.
