A Secret to Die for is a great read. The plot is pretty fast paced that kept me fully engaged and wanting to find out what would happen next. I enjoyed Grace and Nate’s story. It took no time to have the whole book read in a few hours.
A Secret to Die for gets four stars from me. I recommend it for readers who love good mystery and suspense filled books, with an element of faith.
A Secret to Die For is a novel centeried around psychologist Grace Callahan. It’s an exciting cliffhanger that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. It has a strong story line. and lots of suspense. I love this book.
This was a new to me author and I am looking forward to reading more from her. Lisa Harris writes on the edge of your seat romantic suspense. It was non-stop action and I couldn't stop reading. It also had beautiful romance about two people reconnecting after suffering from severe loss.
“A Secret to Die For” by Lisa Harris was a great read just like all her other books! Lisa continues to be one of my favorite inspirational suspense authors. Her books keep you on the edge of your seat and they always feel like you are actually living in one of her stories.
This book centers around Grace Callahan, a psychologist. One of Grace’s clients is found murdered and the clues he leaves behind center on Grace. The detective on the case happens to be an old friend of Grace’s. There are so many twists and turns as Nate and Grace try to find out what really happened to Grace’s client.
If you like good, clean, edge of your seat suspense novels, you will love this book. I definitely recommend it!
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This is a great story full of suspense! Ms. Harris does not disappoint for those who have read her other books! In this latest release, Grace’s client (she is a psychologist) is murdered and she is targeted. Having only trusted her, Stephen leaves behind an important message to her. If only she can figure out what he means in the message. As the story unfolds, an old friend of Grace’s from college reappears due to him investigating Stephen’s murder. Nate is the detective that is supposed to protect Grace. This is a romantic, Christian suspense story. Throughout the book, the reader will be racing to finish the story to figure out what is going to occur next. I highly recommend this book! If you have read Ms. Harris’s other books, you will enjoy this one. If you haven’t, try this book.
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris is a stand alone novel centering around psychologist Grace Callahan. It begins with Grace waking up to the sounds of an intruder breaking in to her house. Across town, Detective Nate Quinn is investigating the death of Stephen Shaw, one of Grace's patients. The two events are linked, and the suspense builds from there. Harris has created a solid plot with the right level of suspense to keep you turning the pages.
A Secret to Die For keeps the reader on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what will happen next to each of the characters. Well-crafted individuals, strong story-line, plenty of suspense but not to the point of making it difficult to sleep at night. Great book!
I surprisingly found myself bored with this book. Yes, there was a lot of suspenseful moments, but they weren't really unique or interesting. It was mostly just predictable. (Like literally every suspense book I've read lately has had a car chase where the main characters are pushed off the road.). I even had the bad guy figured out pretty early on.
I thought the premise was really interesting and I had high hopes for this book, but I guess the constant harping on Gracie and Nate's backstories got old. I don't mean to diminish their stories and that it's a big part of who they are now, but it was brought up every couple of pages like somehow the reader was going to keep forgetting about it. Neither character really had any personality or depth because their backstory was the only thing ever talked about.
The ending was very abrupt and anticlimactic as well. We're led to this big moment and it just doesn't play out.
I liked the Nikki Boyd series and I just felt like this book didn't measure up.
Also, what's up with the 80's looking cover?

That grid thing was disturbing.
I felt like this book focused more on the healing of the two MCs, which is fine and good and offered a lot of really good messages, but I would have liked more in the suspense plot. It still was great because I had no clue about the villain. It seems like this might be a series, but I'm not seeing evidence of that anywhere else than the story itself.
It's a good ending, wrapping things up nicely.
I LOVED how fast-paced A Secret to Die for was. Most suspense books have one or two "incidents" that involve danger or injury, but I loved how these suspense filled situations just littered the pages (in a good way). That just made this suspense reader dance a jig.
I'm not the biggest fan of plots that involve world-ending catastrophe's, but that aside, A Secret to Die for was delightfully fast-paced and filled with nail-biting suspense.
*I received an eBook copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review*
Another suspenseful crime drama full of action! A psychologist becomes a target when one of her clients ends up murdered. A former friend whose first day back on the job becomes her ally as they chase the clues and the plot expands to an FBI investigation.
This book was a real page turner, with an interesting, relevant plot involving cyber crimes. The action and police investigation pauses to allow for spiritual discussions, but in a realistic way. Faith struggles following trauma, like how can God allow evil, and other heavy topics, like PTSD, loss of a child, survivor guilt, abandonment and other issues are addressed. Grace's background as a clinical psychologist adds a therapeutic touch to some conversations, yet she shares her own doubts and fears too. She has a good friend to remind her that God can take the broken pieces of our lives and turn them into something beautiful,
The romance is low key, growing from a reacquaintance to something more.
Recommend to readers who enjoy a good police drama with inspiration and a side of romance. 4.5 stars
Lisa Harris is one of my favorite inspirational suspense authors. I absolutely loved A Secret to Die for.. The plot is fast moving and kept me glued to the story. I highly recommend this book to suspense fans.
Intense thrill ride!
When one of her clients is murdered, Psychologist Grace Callahan wishes she hadn't written him off as just paranoid. Now, it seems that the killer believes Grace was given some top secret information by her client, and will stop at nothing to get it back. Grace is surprised when an old friend from her college days, Nate Quinn shows up as the detective to interview her about her clients death. Both Nate and Grace have suffered grief from personal tragedies since their college days. When they realize Grace is in extreme danger until they can put together the clues left by her client, they must help each other to overcome their own grief.
Lisa Harris does not disappoint with keeping the suspense high! I very much like to see real characters with real life challenges, and how they deal with their own personal tragedies. Another great read!
*I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Lisa Harris' newest book features psychologist Grace Callahan, who is abruptly jerked into a dangerous mystery involving one of her clients. Set in Dallas Texas, the story opens with the recently divorced Grace escaping from an intruder, who wants something that she does not understand.
Detective Nate Quinn is just back on duty following the death of his partner in a bombing that he barely survived. Dealing with both survivor's guilt, a new partner, and the rigors of a new case, he is surprised to be back in contact with Grace. He was good friends with Grace's ex-husband in college, and is startled to find that they are no longer married. Nate is drawn to protect Grace for reasons he does not yet understand - and time is running out for them to solve the dangerous mystery.
I have always enjoyed Lisa Harris' books; although this one is no exception, it won't make it to my favorites list from her. This was primarily due to the repeated near escapes our main characters had, which at some point seemed over the top and did not ring completely true for me. However, the characters have depth and potential. I do still recommend this book - perhaps you will see the drawbacks I mention much differently! And, I highly recommend the author's other books, especially the Nikki Boyd and Southern Crimes series.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Baker Publishing Group in exchange for my honest opinion.
I cannot review this book, as I could not finish it. I did not realize the characters were so heavily Christian and it was a huge distraction for me.
I liked that a Secret to Die For started off with suspense. Grace Callahan is a psychologist. When one of her clients is murdered Grace's life is in danger. Someone thinks Grace has information. Grace is going through a rough period. It is the anniversary of her daughter's death. After her daughter died her husband divorced her but Grace is a strong woman. Nate Quinn is the detective investigating her client's murder but really Nate is more messed up in the head than Grace. He is dealing with some heavy things from his past.
I liked this book but it was not as good as her previous books. It lost a little of it's steam the middle of the book. It would have been better had Nate not been dealing with issues from his past. A Secret to Die For will be released September 18. Thanks to Netgalley and Revell for providing me an ebook to read and review.
A Secret To Die For plunges readers straight into the tension and thrills of a race to foil a terrorism plot. With sweet romance and limitless action, Lisa Harris weaves together a story of second chances and overcoming grief and tragedy.
When psychologist Grace Callahan’s home is broken into and her life threatened, it’s not long before the case is tied to the murder of one of her clients. It’s the first day back on the job for Detective Nate Quinn after a bombing left him sidelined and dealing with PTSD after the death of his partner. Reuniting with an old college friend, Grace, and facing a murder investigation with ties to a larger criminal plot, Nate must work to keep his feelings from overshadowing the investigation. Nate and Grace join together to solve the case and stop the people who plan to threaten millions of lives - starting with Grace’s.
The first chapter of A Secret To Die For starts as the book continues - with plenty of tension and action, and also alluding to a depth of hurt and grief behind the main characters’ stories. The mystery combines a murder case with home break-ins, hacking, and technological warfare.
The majority of A Secret To Die For takes place over a few days. As such, the romance doesn’t have a lot of time to develop. Fortunately, Grace and Nate have a shared history that saves the quickly growing feelings between them from feeling rushed or unrealistic. The few moments they have to reconnect also allows them to share the trauma and grief they have both experienced. Grace and Nate have both lost a lot and this shared trauma gives their relationship a depth of shared understanding and connection.
A Secret To Die For is an easy-to-enjoy romantic suspense perfect for readers who enjoy light romance and intriguing action.
The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
I have only recently been introduced to Lisa Harris and I am impressed with her writing. She writes a good plot line, likable characters, and suspense that's not bloody.
A Secret to Die For is a stand alone novel that centers around psychologist, Grace Callahan. Grace has had her fair share of tragedy and just wants a fresh start. But when one of her patients is murdered, Grace is pulled into a dangerous tangle of technology and hackers intending to take down our nation's electricity grid.
The other main character is Nate Quinn. Nate has physical and emotional scars after surviving a bombing that killed his whole team. In addition to needing time to heal, Nate must deal with the question, "Why did I live while they died?" During his first day back on the job, he runs into Grace. They were friends in college and haven't seen each other in years.
I really enjoyed A Secret to Die For. The pace is good, I like the characters, and the description is excellent. The Christianity is not preachy, but not hidden either. Overall, a good read.
Lisa Harris writes romantic suspense, and I have read a couple of them. I really enjoyed her Nikki Boyd's series. With plenty of action, I had a hard time putting the first three down. With romantic suspense, the story can go three ways: fifty percent romance and fifty percent suspense, mostly suspense and little romance, or mostly romance with little suspense. I prefer my romantic suspense to be the first two. If it is the last one, then I'm really not that interested. As for Harris' A Secret to Die For, the novel falls in the fifty percent romance and fifty percent suspense.
The writing is clear and concise. Harris does a great job at writing in each individual character's perspective. I didn't have a hard time understanding the character's point of view. The emotions of each character fall directly in line with the characters and how Harris's portrays them. The setting was described well, allowing me to visualize the characters as they moved around in the story.
The plot is more of a thriller than a suspense. Grace and Nathan are chasing a electric terrorist as they try to take out our electrical grid. The suspense moves constantly. I had a hard time putting the story down. I finished the novel in around four hours. It moves quickly from one incident to another without really allowing much breathing room from Grace and Nathan. Just the one I like a suspense novel to be.
Grace and Nathan are strong characters. I really like how Grace steps up and is determined to save herself and help Nathan find all the clues to find who is trying to hurt her. That makes her a strong heroine in my book. No woman should stand around and wait for a man to save her. Nathan, on the other hand, worked really hard to solve the clues, but sometimes it feels like Grace was taking over even though Nathan was the trained officer.
Overall, A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris is a fast-paced thriller with a non-stop chase populated with a number of fascinating characters. Fans of Colleen Coble, Brandilyn Collins, and Irene Hannon will enjoy this novel.
I received a complimentary copy of A Secret to Die For by Lisa Harris from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
This is a Christian Romantic Suspense and is well written. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Some parts where hard to believe, how many times can one person be kidnapped and not be hurt. there was a lot of emotion in this book and how to deal with past losses
