This is a collection of four novellas from four different authors but all tied together by following the legacy of a brooch handed through generations. While each story was set in different time periods and unique to the author’s style they all flowed together wonderfully.
Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter
This story hooked me right from the beginning with the matchmaking grandmother. I had to laugh at her antics and the way that Randall and Sarah tried to avoid them. I quickly came to care for each character.
Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer
This was such a sweet story. Ruth is determined to provide for her daughter and will give whatever needed to do this. Bo agrees to the plan she has presented but wants to stay in the background. I absolutely loved the way that Ruth befriends Bo and helps him learn to become more comfortable around others. The interactions between Bo and Ruth’s daughter, Naomi, were delightful.
A Shot at Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas
Fleeta was a girl with a set plan in place and that plan does not include allowing a guy into her life. However when Hank and Fleeta meet there is instant attraction, neither can stop thinking about the other. Fleeta fights the attraction and tries to move ahead with her plans, but when things take a turn for the worse Hank comes to her rescue and her opinion of allowing him in her life changes. I loved how supportive Fleeta’s family was of her dreams.
Because of You by Becky Wade
This was my favourite story. I loved that this story tied in with Becky Wade’s series, the Bradford sisters. Maddie works with Britt and has feelings for Leo but feels like she can let them known. When these two are teamed up together for a Christmas project they end up spending quite a bit of time together and Leo begins to see Maddie differently. Their story is story of healing and moving forward and contained so much depth I was not expecting in a novella. I loved these two and it was easy to root for them to come together.
The Christmas Heirloom is a collection of four heartwarming holiday romance novellas following the journey of a brooch that's passed on down through the generations. It featured three authors I was familiar with and one that was new to me. It was such a delight to read and sure got me into the Christmas spirit!
Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter – Five Stars
Why haven't I read more of Kristi Ann Hunter's books? This was such a great story filled with a lot of laughs, so much heart, and quite a few tears too. It was witty and charming and unputdownable. I read it pretty much in one sitting. I didn't want to leave these characters for one second. The dowager was hands down my favorite. She had quite the feisty personality and in many ways reminded me of my own spunky grandma. This story definitely makes me want to go catch up on the rest of Hunter's books that I haven't read quite yet.
Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer – Four Stars
I've enjoyed many of Witemeyer's books so I was very excited to start Gift of the Heart. It was so good! The characters were great and so genuine. Ruth was such a strong and admirable woman. Naomi, her daughter, was a sweet and adorable little girl. And Bo! Oh my! What an all-around good guy he was! This story sure left me with a big smile on my face!
A Shot at Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas – Four Stars
This was my first time reading anything by this author. It takes place in the late 1950's which I don't think I'd ever read a story set during that time period. I was unsure if I'd enjoy it because of that but I ended up liking it a lot. Fleeta was quite the interesting character, so fierce and determined. She's a tomboy who loves hunting and guns. She's different than the normal leading lady, but that's what made her so great and likeable. It took me a minute to get into this story, but once I did, I couldn't read it fast enough.
Because of You by Becky Wade – Five Stars
I'm not gonna lie, this story was the one I was most looking forward to. I've been loving the Bradford Sisters series and was excited to visit them again. This story is about Maddie Winslow who works at the chocolate shop, Sweet Arts, with her best friend Britt Bradford. It was really nice to get Maddie's story and to learn more about her. Her and Leo were easy to like and root for.
All in all, The Christmas Heirloom was an excellent collection. I really enjoyed all four stories and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes good, sweet romances.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
The Christmas Heirloom consists of four Holiday Novellas by the wonderful authors: Kristi Hunter, Karen Witemeyer, Sarah Loudin Thomas, and Becky Wade. The book has four charming stories from the 1820’s Regency England to modern day Washington state. The book revolves around each character finding true love and involves a special brooch that is passed from mother to daughter through the generations. The stories also happen around Christmas making this story a wonderful way to begin celebrating Christmas.
I loved each novella and they were fabulous. They are the perfect length, all of the stories were well developed, and unique to the time period and author’s style. The story of the brooch flowed through each story very naturally. Each woman who was given the brooch embroidered their name on the bag that held the brooch. I could picture the brooch and bag and loved seeing it appear in the different novellas. I was so engaged in each story, and was very sad when the book ended.
I highly recommend The Christmas Heirloom. So many wonderful authors in one book! The stories are fabulous, well written, and will help you to celebrate Christmas! Such an enjoyable read.
I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a review.
The Christmas Heirloom is a Christmas novella by four out-standing Christian authors. The stories center around an heirloom brooch handed down through the generations and rumored to bring true love to its owner.
Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter starts the story off. We find Sarah Gooding as the companion of Lady Densbury in Lancashire, England in 1827. Sarah was hired after she recovered the brooch from a snow bank. Lady Densbury introduces Sarah to her grandson, Randall. Because Sarah is hired help, Randall’s mother disapproves of her. Will the love blossoming wilt under the pressure or will it bloom? The story was a delight to read. I loved the laughter and the easy camaraderie.
Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer takes place in Hope Springs, Texas in 1890. The brooch is now in the hands of Lady Densbury’s fourth great granddaughter. Widow Ruth Fulbright moves to Hope Springs with her daughter Naomi hoping for a new start. She uses the brooch as collateral for a bank loan and gains so much more than she bargained for. This story was so well crafted. I laughed out-loud at the antics of seven-year-old Naomi. I became anxious about where Ruth would get the needed supplies for winter; and I actually cried when she fell in love. This was such a sweet story.
A Shot at Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas is a Sound of Rain novella. Fleeta Brady lives in Bethel, West Virginia in 1958. She has lived with her aunt and uncle since the death of her parents when she was very small. Her aunt has been holding onto the brooch for Fleeta until she is old enough to inherit it from her mother. She is now the seventh generation to own the Luckenbooth brooch. Fleeta’s dream is to open a gunsmithing shop but now that she has the brooch maybe love isn’t as girly as she had feared. Fleeta was a loveable tomboy. I really enjoyed her character. When Hank Chapin returns the lost brooch to Fleeta, you know sparks are gonna fly!
Because of You by Becky Wade is a Bradford Sisters romance set in present day Merryweather, Washington. Maddie Winslow is the tenth-generation owner of the amethyst brooch. She has secretly been in love with Leo for years, but he married her best friend. When she finds the heirloom brooch hidden in a box, will it finally be her turn for true love? I loved the integrity of this story and the willingness to honor a friend’s memory. The Christmas mission project that Maddie helps with sounds like a great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus. A great little holiday read to get you into the Christmas spirit!
I received this e-book from the Publisher in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 Stars
What a treasure trove collection of stories! I love the over-arching theme of following along the journey a family heirloom takes—a luckenbooth brooch given to four generations. Legend has it that whoever owns this brooch will find true love! First passed down to Sarah Gooding in 1827 from Lady Densbey who in turn, introduced her grandson, thus starting a chain reaction that spanned the years to our own modern day! I really enjoyed this because I not only read four love stories, but they were all Christmas themed to boot! While I can't really fathom that the holidays are just around the corner again, I love an early start to my favorite season in the pages of a book. While each of these stories are novella length, they neither lacked depth nor felt rushed. I think they are perfect for times when a reader can only carve out a small chunk of their day to read. I also discovered a new-to-me author in Sarah Loudin Thomas and will be searching out more books written by her. That's the other thing I love, meeting new authors through collections such as this! All of these stories are wonderful and all were my favorite; not one of them stood out above the other. That being said, I will do a short review on “Gift of the Heart” by Karen Witemeyer.
Gift of the Heart
Since my favorite Biblical story is Ruth and Naomi, this held a special place in my heart. I really enjoyed the nod to scripture. Widow Ruth Albright & her daughter Naomi relocate to Hope Springs, Texas two years after her husbands death. Taking the job as a cook at the Homespun Cafe, she hopes to start a better life for her and her daughter. In the meantime, she meets her landlord, Beaurgard Azlin—or Bo for short. Thus begins their happily-ever-after story, and while this may sound too perfect, it has a few rocky places they both must navigate. Ruth is good for Bo in boosting his self-confidence and in return, Bo is good for Ruth in resurrecting feelings she thought buried with her husband. Naomi is the glue that binds them together! I love her spunky spirit, her childlike view of the world and her compassion for one stray cat lovingly nicknamed Teddy. Talking about the tabby, he contributes his own quirkiness and personality to the mix. A mish-mash family who's love-story is hard earned and has a satisfying end. Witemeyer inserts her trademark humor that had me laughing out loud in quite a few spots & her characters are ones I would have enjoyed meeting. Too bad it's not real because I could make a life in Hope Springs myself! A delightful story with a Biblical twist.
*I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House on behalf of the authors and was not obligated to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own. *
A reader expects amazing things when they pick up a novella collection with the names of Karen Witemeyer, Kristi Ann Hunter, Sarah Loudin Thomas, and Becky Wade on the cover. I expected sweet, holiday stories, tender moments, swoon worthy romances, strong female protagonists, and an emphasis on following God's direction throughout each and every obstacle, and I'm happy to say that this delightful holiday collection delivered on each and every one of these expectations.
In The Christmas Heirloom, these four much beloved authors each write a story in their usual time periods that all connect through the passing down of a beautiful brooch from generation to generation, and mother to daughter. Each novella gives the reader a look into a different branch of the family tree, and the way that the brooch helped each woman find the true love of her life that God had planned for them.
The collection opens with Kristi Ann Hunter's Legacy of Love, set in 1827 in Lancashire, England. In this sweet story we're introduced to Sarah, who's a companion to the Dowager Countess of Densbury, and who's started to develop feelings for the Dowager's grandson. I enjoyed the comedic side to this novella, the fact that it's more of a slow burn romance, and the way the characters were well developed, and kept me glued to the story throughout all the happenings. This was for sure one of my favorites in the collection, and was a great way to start things off.
From there the reader is transported to the year 1890 in Karen Witemeyer's Gift of the Heart. This tender, and heart warming story focuses on Ruth and her daughter Naomi, who've come to the town of Hope Springs to start a new chapter in their lives after the passing of Ruth's beloved husband much too soon. As her circumstances aren't financially viable, she's forced to make a loan arrangement with the owner of the local hotel, and soon Ruth realizes that it's not just money on the line, but her heart as well. This one was perfectly paced, had the lovely addition of Ruth's young daughter and a playful town cat, and spoke of the need to overcome our own views of faults before we can truly let anyone else in. I loved this one from start to finish.
A Shot At Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas transports the reader a few generations to 1958, and unfortunately this one was my least favorite of the four. While I enjoyed both Fleeta and Hank's characters, and the lovely town setting, I felt the romance seemed too rushed, and it wasn't as believable as the ones in the other novellas. I also felt that this one didn't emphasis the brooch quite as much as the other stories, but I did still enjoy it overall, just not as much as the others.
And lastly we come to Because of You by Becky Wade, which is set in the present time, and was without a doubt my favorite of the stories. In Becky's classic, pull you in and never let you go writing style, the reader is introduced to Maddie. She's been in love with Leo for as long as she can remember, but has never acted on those feelings as Leo was married to her best friend Olivia, who passed away in a tragic accident a few years prior. I enjoyed how much Christmas is emphasized in this one, and the way that both Leo and Maddie have to come to terms with their grief before they can truly move forward with a relationship. And of course, I loved the brief appearances of other beloved characters from Becky's Bradford Sisters series.
This lovely collection is just what anyone needs to get into the holiday spirit, and is the perfect opportunity to take a chance on stories by these very talented ladies. Full of heart warming moments, beautiful romances, Christmas spirit, and God's grace and love, The Christmas Heirloom is everything I was hoping for and more, and I can't possibly recommend it enough.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks so much to Bethany House and NetGalley for the opportunity to advance read this.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher (Bethany House) via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not required to give a positive review.
I enjoyed this read that actually spans centuries, and is centered around a family heirloom.
Each author tells their own story and pulls us in with how they obtained this stunning piece, and true love is associated with the owner. Each mother in turn passes this broach on to their daughter.
These novellas also include the Christmas season, something for everyone, each a quick sweet read that compelled me to move to the next, and moving from the early 1800’s to modern day, all with the love of God and following Him.

Title: The Christmas Heirloom: Four Holiday Novellas of Love through the Generations
Written By: Kristi Ann Hunter, Karen Witemeyer, Sarah Loudin Thomas, and Becky Wade
Genre: Christian Romance
Recommended Ages: 13 & up
Introduction:
When I had the opportunity to receive a review copy of this book, I knew I wanted to. Mainly because one of my favorite authors wrote one of these novellas. I wasn't disappointed by her book. The others... Well, one was rather disappointing and the other two were only fairly good. I loved how the brooch fit in to every story.
Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter: .75/1
This is the story of how the legend of the brooch began. I absolutely adored Lady Densmore! She was the star of the book, that's for sure. At first, I was really annoyed by the main characters. But they started to grow on me. The main reason I am giving this a .75 instead of a full 1 was because Sarah and Randolph fell in love in less than a week. Sure they had known each other for a while, but to suddenly fall in love after really learning more about each other was a little too quick for me.
Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer: 1/1
This was the best novella in the entire book. I loved it! The romance between the MCs was perfect and beautiful. Not only was it more realistic, but it was also well-written. I was engaged from the very beginning and never lost interest.
A Shot of Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas: .5/1
The 1950s is a genre I don't read much of, so that was interesting. But the story itself didn't really grip me. Maybe it was the feministic slant to the book that was the problem. I can't really put my finger on it exactly. This was the weakest of the four novellas.
Because of You by Becky Wade: .75/1
This is the only book that wasn't historical fiction. This is set in contemporary times. I do like a good contemporary romance occasionally, so I was looking forward to this one. It didn't disappoint too much. I liked how they had known each other for about a decade before the story began. The main reason this didn't get a full 1 was because again, one of the characters fell in love too quickly. I won't say more lest I ruin the story for someone.
Un-Put-Down-Ability: .75/1
Overall, the entire book was hard to put down. I either just wanted to find out how the book ended so I could be done with it or I wanted to savor each moment of them together. I would love to read a sequel to Ruth's story. Maybe just making it about Naomi? What do you say, Karen? ;)
Conclusion: 3.75/5
Look at the book as a whole, it was pretty good. In fact, it was almost a full 4 stars. There were parts that I skimmed over, but other parts I sighed in happiness. I'll let you make up your own mind about it.
Note: I received a free eBook copy from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review.
The Christmas Heirloom: Four Holiday Novellas of Love through the Generations by Karen Witemeyer; Kristi Ann Hunter; Sarah Loudin Thomas; Becky Wade 5/5 ⭐️
Thank you to Bethany House Publishing for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.
This novella has made me long for the upcoming Christmas season because of how all the stories pointed to the season being about Jesus and love.
In the first novella, I loved the setting. England, winter, and class boundaries made me root for Sarah. I loved her character right away because she spoke her mind, even at times when she shouldn’t have. The writing was so well done that I laughed at her first outburst, and it was wonderful. I also loved the relationship between her and her employer. I loved that they both were strong-willed women.
In the second novella, I loved the unique setting of the town with healing mineral water. Ruth will do whatever she has to do to survive, and her stubbornness was admirable. I also loved her daughter and the relationship she was with Mr. Azlin. I think it was wonderful to read about a woman with a child looking for love, and how these decisions can be complicated.
In the third novella, I instantly took a liking to Fleeta due to her desire to be herself and not conform to society around her. I loved that she liked to hunt, carve, and wear pants. I think being different from others was something she embraced well. I also loved getting to hear about Judd and where this character went.
In the last novella, I loved the complexity of the relationship that was presented. It was similar to the second story, but yet so different. I loved that the small town had an effect on the potential relationship because it was something I could relate to. Maddie is a lovable character. She does what she can for anyone around her, and I enjoyed her serving spirit.
This novella collection is out tomorrow, and I highly recommend checking it out in time for the holidays.
I enjoyed some of the stories more than others, but these are some authors that I love and the stories were fun. :)
This book covers four stories all featuring a beautiful heirloom broach passed down from mother to daughter. The heirloom brings love with it.
Legacy of Love
The first story starts in 1827 Lancashire, England.
Sarah is a companion to Dowager Countess of Densbury. While she doesn’t like much of the dowagers family she is intrigued by Randall Everard. Randal was also curious about Sarah when she first arrived but he’s since determined that she’s just a meek and mild girl.
It turns out Sarah is so much more than he imagined and he finds himself captivated.
Gift of the Heart
This is a cute little read. It takes place in October 1890 in the town of Hope Springs. Ruth Fulbright and her seven-year-old daughter Naomi are starting a new life. After the death of her husband Ruth is desperate. She sells her wedding ring to cover the cost of the stagecoach.
Beauregard Azlin or Bo as he’s known is a rich cold businessman. Or is he?
It turns out Bo isn’t at all what Ruth expects. And Ruth is the kind of woman Bo had given up hope of finding.
Like I said this is a cute read and Naomi is adorable.
A Shot at Love
November 1958 Bethel, West Virginia and Fleeta Brady is a strong woman and an excellent shot. She dresses more like a man and has big plans for the future. None of these plans involve romance in any form. Her mother died from a broken heart and Fleeta is determined that will never happen to her.
Hank Chapin is considering his future, he feels it might be time for a change. Fleeta is unlike any woman he’s ever met before and he finds himself intrigued.
This is another cute little period read.
Because of You
This was probably my least favourite of the four but that’s mainly due to the subject matter. Maddie has loved Leo from the first moment she saw him. She loved him while he dated and then married her best friend. While they had a child together and then in grieving after his wife’s death.
It’s nicely written but I’m just not a fan of any book which features a dead spouse casting a large shadow over a relationship.
Fun group of Christmas novellas that span from early 1800s to current day & from Scotland to England to the east & west coasts of America. The 4 different authors do a fantastic job of tying the book together. Great read! Fun to revisit people & places in Becky Wade's portion of the book. Possibly the same case in the other novellas included, but I've read more of Becky Wade's previously written books than those by the other authors - whom I will start reading more from! SUPER book!!!
The Christmas Heirloom is a collection of four Holiday Novellas of Love Through the Generations. The novellas include:
Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter
Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer
A Shot at Love by Sarah Loudin Thomas
Because of You by Becky Wade
What a fabulous collection! My favorite is Karen Witemeyer's Gift of the Heart.
I give The Christmas Heirloom four and a half stars.
I enjoyed reading the heart-warming stories of love in this delightful collection. Beginning with the first story, Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter, we follow the legacy of a beautiful brooch as it is passed first from Grandmother to Grandson’s intended and then from mother to daughter.
Each story takes place during the Christmas season, and is sure to put you in the holiday mood! With moments that had me laughing out loud and then gasping in surprise, I was fully enchanted with these charming stories of finding love in the most unexpected places!
What first caught my attention was the luckenbooth brooch on the cover! I first learned about the luckenbooth brooches and the fascinating history several years ago, and I even have my own (though without a pretty stone in the center). I knew instantly that I had to read this book and I have enjoyed reading each of the four stories in this collection. This collection of stories are delightful and endearing and they are sure to linger in your memory long after you’ve closed the book!
(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
Kristi Ann Hunter starts out the novellas with “Legacy of Love.” It was a wonderful tale. I loved the spunky grandma who liked to really live and have fun while her family tried to ignore her scandalous behavior. Her companion doesn’t realize grandma is also a matchmaker. I laughed out loud and cried just as hard. The three main characters were developed so beautifully. I really came to care for them.
In “Gift of the Heart” by Karen Witemeyer, a little girl stole my heart with her funny ways and open-hearted love for others, particularly for the man who’s trying to hide away to protect himself and others from discomfort. I appreciated how both Ruth and Bo were willing to step out and take a risk.
My husband is a gun enthusiast and would love all the details in “A Shot at Love” by Sarah Loudin Thomas. When Fleeta is given the heirloom brooch, she can’t figure out why her mama would want to wish love on her. She has no time for a man. When a man who loves guns as much as she does comes along, she questions whether she might just need to change her mind. I appreciated that this story felt a little different. It was refreshing.
Maddie’s response, in “Because of You” by Becky Wade, is the opposite of Fleeta’s. “You mean to tell me that a brooch that might have the power to bring true love into my life has been gathering dust under baby blankets?” (location 4996). She’ll take all the help she can get if it will open Leo’s eyes to seeing her in a different way. It was a sweet story of healing and new love born out of a deep friendship.
These four stories are loosely tied together by an heirloom brooch that is passed down through the generations, so each story is set in a different time and place. I enjoyed the connection and seeing how love looks a little different for everybody connected with the brooch.
Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a complimentary e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
This is a lovely collection of stories with a unique common thread. This group of fine authors, all of which I've read before, tells their own stories in their usual time periods, concerning a heirloom broach. What an exciting and touching thread throughout the generations, and the hope, love, and respect it holds.
Even though these are short stories, they are so satisfying. The historical integrated into the contemporary seamlessly, and the spiritual aspect left me feeling full and sated. With believable characters and circumstances, these short stories tie together for a well-written, cohesive, multi-generational tale.
I was blessed to receive a complimentary copy from NetGalley.
In Kristi Ann Hunter's "Legacy of Love," Sarah Gooding never suspected returning a brooch to an elderly woman would lead to a job . . . and introduce her to the woman's grandson, a man far above her station.
In Karen Witemeyer's "Gift of the Heart," widow Ruth Albright uses the family brooch as collateral for a loan from the local banker. But the more she comes to know the man behind the stern businessman, the more she hopes for a second chance at love.
In Sarah Loudin Thomas's "A Shot at Love," Fleeta Brady's rough-and-tumble childhood means she prefers hunting to more feminine activities. She never expected her family's brooch might be how a fellow hunter turns her attention from competition to romance.
In Becky Wade's "Because of You," Maddie Winslow has spent years in love with a man whose heart was already spoken for. When a church Christmas project brings them together and she stumbles upon an old family brooch, might it finally be her turn for love?
I loved following the story of the brooch throughout the years. Heartwarming stories of love and hope. It would be hard to pick a favorite novella out of these. They were all good. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
What a wonderful collection of stories whose common thread is a brooch that is passed on from generation to generation.
The story begins in Legacy of Love by Kristi Ann Hunter. We meet the original owner of the brooch. An elderly woman who passes the brooch on to her companion.
In Karen Witemeyer's Gift of the Heart we meet Ruth who is now in possession of the brooch. She is a descendant of the companion from the first story. I think this story was my favorite in the collection. I loved what a strong woman, Ruth is and her daughter is adorable.
In. Sarah Loudin Thomas's story, A Shot At Love we meet Fleeta who is a descendant of Ruth's. She is now in possession of the brooch and is very unsure if she wants the legend of the brooch to come true for her. She doesn't think she wants a man in her life, she can make do just fine without one. Fleeta is a very interesting character.
In the last story by Becky Wade, Because of You, we meet Maddie. She has had a crush on the same man for years. She feels a little guilty about it, because he was her best friends husband. Not as bad as it sounds... but you'll have to read the book to why.
I loved the concept of the brooch being the thing that ties all of these stories together. Each author wrote a short story in the time period in which they usually write. It was cool.
I hope you pick up a copy, I think there is something here for everybody.
I’ll admit it, I’m sentimental (Maybe, possibly overly sentimental). I really don’t do well with clutter, but I also have a really hard time getting rid of anything that someone special gave me, or anything with a good memory attached. I really enjoyed The Christmas Heirloom by Kristi Ann Hunter, Karen Witemeyer, Sarah Loudin Thomas, and Becky Wade because each author followed a special heirloom that was handed down through many generations. It was so special to see how the heirloom was integrated into each story by each author. I always enjoy books written by Kristi Ann Hunter and Karen Witemeyer so of course their stories were great. I also was able to read stories by two authors I’ve never read anything by before, but I am looking forward to reading more by Sarah Loudin Thomas and Becky Wade if their books are anything like the stories written for this collection. Each story, while shorter than a normal book, was able to draw me in to the story from the very beginning and held my attention to the very end. This collection of books was very much enjoyed by my sentimental self.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys historical romances, especially romances that trace a family’s stories through different eras.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The Christmas Heirloom is a collection of four novellas by four different authors but yet all the stories have several things in common. All the women are related to one another and are all connected to an heirloom broach which has been passed from one generation to the next. The original owner of the broach was Lady Densby and although she did not have a daughter to pass to broach onto she passed it to her grandson who fell in love with Sarah his grandmother's companion. After Sarah it was handed down from daughter to daughter. I love genealogy so I loved this aspect of handing down a legacy.
All the stories were well written but I did not enjoy the third one A Shot at Love as much as I did the others. Fleeta was too much of a tomboy and I don't think she valued the broach as much as the other women did. She really didn't care about the history of the broach. She only liked it because it had belonged to her mother. And she cared more about guns than finding the love of her life.
I received this book from Bethany House through the review program at Netgalley. This book is due to be released on October 2, 2018.
