Loved this book, even when I was not reading it I kept thinking about it and couldn’t wait to pick it up again and I finished it in a day. Would definitely recommend to others and can’t wait to read other titles from this author.
Highly recommend!!
This book that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat in eager anticipation as to what will happen next!
This book is full of twists and turns so don’t even try to think you have it figured out because you don’t! I was shocked by the big reveal near the end. This is the kind of book I love the characters are believable the story just flows and never once did I think I knew what was coming. I heard this is the 2nd book by this author so of course I have to go find the first!
I was in the mood for a mystery thriller when I came across Three Little Lies on Netgalley. I had previously read and enjoyed Laura's debut novel Friend Request and couldn't wait to read this one. I also loved the fact that it was about friends who had lied and now revenge was coming to them and secrets/truths being uncovered. The book starts ten years ago when a family moved in next door to Ellen. The family had two boys Daniel and Nate and their goddaughter, Sasha. Ellen became quick friends with Sasha and Ellen's friend Karina joined them, but she was always a bit of an outsider and obsessed with the family especially Daniel. One NYE, Karina cries rape and tells the others that Daniel raped and became violent with her after she screamed to stop. The case goes to trial and Ellen, and Sasha takes the stand and back-up Karina's story. Daniel is sentenced to ten years in jail, and Karina moves away, and Ellen and Sasha become the best of friends and move in together. Now Ten Years Later, Ellen and Sasha are roomies, and Daniel has been released. Ellen comes home and discovers that Sasha has gone missing and believes it has something to do with Daniel and the fact that they might have put an innocent person away. Now Ellen must revisit old friends including Karina, Sasha's mother, and Leo to find out where Sasha might have gone. In doing so, Ellen will learn new truths about Sasha and that she might not have known her best friend all along. Three Little Lies was a great book with a twist that I didn't see coming. Fans of Laura's book Friend Request and Ruth Ware's The Lying Game will love.
Laura Marshall does it again! I loved her debut, Friend Request, and this one was just as intense and enjoyable! Knowing that I have to wait longer for more books from her saddens me, but I know that I will be the first person to jump right into them when released. I highly recommend this one!
Three little lies can change everything....
This story alternates between events that took place in 2006 and 2017, revolving around a group of teenagers/young adults who are neighbors.
Meet the new neighbors-the Monktons. You have Olivia, the opera singer who is famous in her own right. Her husband Tony who is a struggling musician, their sons Daniel and Nicholas and their god daughter Sasha. They live an unconventional lifestyle filled with glamorous parties and operas. Or is this just how it appears to an outsider? Or perhaps to a teenage girl wanting desperately to be a part of their life?
Meet Ellen and Karina. Two teenage girls completely and utterly obsessed with the new neighbors and their lifestyle. They are especially intrigued by the beautiful Sasha who seems to charm everyone in her presence without a bit of effort.
2007
Everything changes. One of the Monktons are accused of rape and the glamorous image is shattered. The accused is found guilty and sentenced to prison.
2017
Ellen and Sasha are best friends. Nobody knows them better than each other. Are we sure that is really the case? Lies are starting to surface from the past and even more from the present. Sasha suddenly goes missing. Is this revenge for the rape accusations? Is it just a coincidence that the convicted rapist is now free? Who has been lying all these years?
I enjoyed Laura Marshall's previous book Friend Request, so I was looking forward to reading her latest and greatest. I am glad I did, it was a good entertaining read.
The title says it all, but there were certainly more than three LITTLE lies going on here. There was jealously, competitiveness and the grass is also greener on the other side syndrome going on. It kept me guessing until the end. Be forewarned, be careful who you trust!
Thank you to Laura Marshall, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review Three Little Lies.
Oooooh, this was fun!! It is about three high school aged "friends" drawn to one bohemian family for various reasons. The family ends up having some hidden problems and the three girls are not all that they seem. One person of the whole mix ends up in prison while the group of accusers live in varying degrees of mental torture for the next ten years. Secrets are unraveled and it becomes clear that much of what these people know about each other are lies.
Three Little Lies was part mystery, part domestic drama, with a splash of YA angst thrown in for good measure. All of it meshes well. I started it on a lunch break and was sorry I did as I could barely tear myself away from it to go back to work. It is a book so engrossing that I would find myself looking for opportunities to sneak in a chapter here and there between longer bouts of reading for the next two days.
Perhaps the strongest aspect of the book was its ability to portray relationships: Between parents and children, between people of different lifestyles, and between blossoming adults navigating the world of introducing new friends into their existing lives. However, the mystery was strong and unique in that the crime is described early on as a factual, witnessed account, yet all is not as cut and dried as it seems. I spent the better part of the book wondering HOW the author was possibly going to create any more mystery than solving the present day disappearance of one of the players in the ten-year-old drama, but she did, and it was plausible and awful. Lies were shown to have consequences for sure.
This was my first Laura Marshall book but I look forward to reading her previous one now.
Thanks to Laura Marshall, Grand Central Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
What a heart-pounded thriller! Laura Marshall can write seriously intense suspense novels that will blow your mind! Three Little Lies shocked me many, many times— so many twist and turns I never anticipated! The storyline was well crafted and Laura Marshall does a fantastic job with dropping just the right clue at the just the right time to keep you on the hook! I never saw the ending coming (which is exactly what I want in a thriller)! I look forward to reading anything and everything Laura Marshall comes out with in the future!
Not terrible, plot becomes more inane as you read further. Finished it, but was left with a disappointed feeling as I cook,d have spent my time searching for a better. More interesting novel
One of my favorite thrillers I've read this year. Don't know whose lying and who isn't and want to find out, which has you flipping pages to find out more and more! Highly recommend to thriller lovers!
Will give a more thourough review in Chapter Chatter Pub, in August, closer to publish date!
Ellen is only 17 when her life becomes enmeshed with new student Sasha and her magnetic family, not seeing the ugliness that boils just below the surface. At age 30, Ellen and Sasha are still together, sharing an apartment in London, until out of the blue, Sasha disappears. Sasha has pulled this game before and police won’t take her disappearance seriously, but Ellen knows differently. As the events of a 12-year-old New Year’s eve come to fruition, Ellen knows that she and Sasha are both in mortal danger
A intriguing and intense thriller that I enjoyed falling into. I kept me guessing until the end. I would recommend it to any thriller lover.
