Loved it!! A marriage of convenience slowly becoming a real marriage. Ashlyn found out when her father's will was read that she had to marry in two months or she and her mother would be left with nothing. When Deacon proposed a marriage of convenience, she was attracted to him but had huge misgivings. She didn't really believe in love, mostly because of her parents relationship. This book had relationship issues, excitement, drama, friendship, and love. Again a good read
I found the book to be very charming and the plot although typical of many books, is very engaging as the couple find true love amongst difficulties. I would recommend this title.
This book is so different from what I thought it would be after reading the vignette.
It is a romance (at times steamy), but it is also a mystery, and full of humor and action. Kind of like real life, I guess.
Apparently, it really drew me in, because I found myself audibly giving the characters advice or admonishment.
What I enjoyed most was the playful banter between the couple and between Ashlyn and her best friend. I also really respect how the author put in bits about what really matters in life; this billionaire can buy anything he wants, but if his wife is killed, what does he really have left?
I would recommend this to adult readers. (There are scenes of sex and of violence). Happily, there was no swearing, which I fine just gets in the way of the story, with very rare exception.
Ashlyn and Deacon's story does have a HEA-except the premise if having to get married in order to gain access to a family fortune is completely misguided and unbelievable in 2018. Where Lewis went wrong is not having the attorney show back up at the end with a letter from Ashlyn's father telling her that he did this because he believed Deacon was her soulmate and he wanted them together after he died. Taking out the crazy plot and the crazy twist thrown in near the end, the characters were believable at the end and the supporting cast needs their own HEA's
Let's start by saying that the way this book was formatted made me put it down as soon as I opened it on Kindle. The grey highlight was unnecessary but I pushed myself to read it because I promised I would.
From the cover and the blurb, I thought this book was going to be light and romantic, the fact that it had a plot twist I was not expecting put me at the edge of my chair. I like unexpected, well-done twists. The dangerous the better.
That being said, the way it was executed left me disappointed. Yes, I got a kick from the adrenaline rush for the unexpected twist in the story but it could have been done way better.
Ashlyn's mothers irked me to no end. I just needed to get that out of my chest.
I think it was a good book but the plot was not completely believable and there were times that I, as a reader, was taken out of the story because of some of the things that happened. The characters were well done and interesting but I wished for more.
Pin-point exactly what I wish for is a little complicated but I can say I wished for the story to feel more natural, more relatable or realistic, with a flow that wasn't interrupted until the end.
Bear in mind that this is my opinion, you may actually see this book in a way I did not, and that would be awesome.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book provided by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
The dialogue and writing was so stilted and awkward in the beginning. This almost became a major unfinished read for me... and I hate being a quitter. So I slogged on. Unfortunately, the conversations between our love birds didn't flow much better. I didn't expect what sounded like your typical marriage of convenience trope to go from the "arrangement" to the tropical Twilight-esque Isle of Esme to a hostage situation from the book's description. It was an unusual mix. While the author introduced additional characters and started leaving breadcrumbs for more HEAs in the series, I doubt I'll follow along for the rest.
I had a hard time getting in to this book. It wouldn't format correctly regardless of which app I tried to read it with.
After Ashlyn's father dies, she finds out at the reading of his will that she must marry within 2 months and stay married for 1 year or her mom loses her home and money and Ashlyn's school will not be paid for. Ashlyn isn't dating anyone and doesn't have adjutant prospects either. She is silly devoted to school.
Deacon Cross knows all about the trends of her father's will. He knew before she did. He is a self-made billionaire but he needs a wife. He makes a proposal to Ashlyn.
Neither one of them wants a spouse but they are stuck in a situation where the choice is taken from them. The chemistry between them is off the charts.
This story could have been better.
I've really enjoyed this book. I believe the story is strong, the editing was not so much. Ashton and Deacon was such complex characters. The internal and physical struggles were wonderfully written, and the building of the relationship was strong. There are solid secondary characters that really round out the story. If the proofing had been better, it would definitely have been a 5 star book.
I love the marriage of convenience story line. Two strangers or almost strangers coming together in marriage for everything except love… and discovering that not every relationship that lasts starts out the same way. The Arrangement is one of those stories. Ashlyn has several shocks delivered in quick shots, the next worse than the one before.. Her father’s death. And his will that clearly states that if she does not marry within two months… two months!.. she loses her inheritance, her home and to make it even worse her mother gets the boot with no inheritance as well. What in the world was Daddy thinking?
Fortunately for Ashlyn, Deacon needs a wife, like yesterday. These two might make a real marriage out of this “convenience”… if they don’t destroy each other first. The sexual tensions run high, they really do fit together well in spite of how they got married, but can they get past their stubbornness and belief that nothing lasts forever. I had fun with The Arrangement, and I’ll let you discover just how this couple finds their way from convenience to a happy ever after ending.
If you’re in the mood for a fun, sexy, intriguing romantic romp then you’ll have fun with The Arrangement. There is nothing logical about falling in love, and Ashlyn and Deacon are about to discover that little fact. I’m going to head on over to Amazon and pick up The Proposal, can’t wait to get started on that one.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Great read, there was a lot going on in this book it was all over the place. Ashlyn had the shock of her life when her father died by reading the will. She had 2 months to get married. This isn't in her plan. She makes an arrangement marriage for one year. Will they make it ?
A sweet romance
Quite enjoyable. As it was a proof copy I had trouble reading it in places eg when different speakers spoke. Or perhaps it was the formatting. A little frustrating but still a great story and well written. I really liked both characters and loved the little twist about his past. An Enjoyable quick read
Good story. Well written, believable with a bit of a twist and some excitement you don't expect. The book is a good clean romance that everyone would love, without the craziness of course.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for review...thank you NetGalley!
The Arrangement is a somewhat unusual love story. Ashlyn Gray's father left a stipulation in his will that she must marry to receive her inheritance, which is paying for her college education, within a few months. She has no prospects until she meets Deacon Cross, a self-made billionaire. They agree to marry and to stay married for a year to meet the stipulations of the will. Their chemistry is undeniable...and so is what ensues. A somewhat predictable romance which will make a great summer beach read!
Very cute story. It wasn't my favorite by any stretch but did serve the purpose of taking me out of reality and enjoy several hours of romance.
A good love story with a twist that I did not see coming. I loved the characters. It is a fast read. I would definitely recommend this story.
For Ashlyn, Deacon was the flame to her embers, causing an instant combustion, this puts a spoke to their arrangement, frothing their lives in intense sexual tension. Their marriage of convenience soon turned into one with exclusive benefits that brought about certain risk factors. Looming in the dark corner of their newly recognized synchronization was a dark shadow that brought about danger, intrigue and an awakening to their true feelings for each other. An exciting, sexy and intriguing story with an ever-burning chemical reaction that only intensifies. A wonderful story with an excellent storyline and equally great characters. I like Deacon’s character which was well balanced with Ashlyn, a truly great combination, I say. A must read you won’t regret.
their relationship started out as an arrangement to keep her father's will stimulations from taken away things from her and her mother. bit something just clicks and the two of them have this attraction. she finds out that he has a secret and it's huge. they also find out about her expecting. it's a good book
Loved this book. Whilst the relationship developed quickly it was completely believable. Well written, romantic and loving. Would definitely recommend.
Jennifer Lewis's The Arrangement (Book #1 Marriage of Convenience Series) is one to add to your beach to read list/bag ladies. This was my first experience reading any of Ms. Lewis's work, and I can't wait to see where this series goes. The characters are well developed, enjoyed the back and forth and the plot was engaging, still can't figure out WHY Ashlyn's father stipulated her being married to receive her inheritance. I'd like to thank NetGalley for a copy of The Arrangement is exchange for an honest review.
Ashlyn needs a husband - not for love, just to meet the terms of her father's will.
When Deacon offers to marry her, it is not clear what he is set to gain from the arrangement.
Even though neither of them intend to, they can't help falling for each other, despite the fact the contact is only for a year and they they can divorce and go their separate ways - if they want to!
Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
