'Scarlet Rose #3: I Think I Love You' with story and art by Patricia Lyfoung continues the adventures of Maud and Guilhem.
Maud and Guilhem are tracking the Baron and it has taken them to a different land, but one that feels very familiar to Maud. With her dad's diary to lead the way, she finds herself abducted by a strange clan, but it turns out they aren't that strange at all. Meanwhile the Huet brothers have a surprise of their own and it will be a big fight for the Scarlet Rose and the Fox.
I've enjoyed this series. The characters, world and art are unique. This completes this story arc, but there is room for more adventures in this series.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from papercutz.com and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
It was well written. I absolutely love these characters. Scarlet Rose, like always is such a badass! I love her to death and the story is progressing so well.. Definitely a story for all ages.
Maud (The Scarlet Rose) and Guilhem (The Fox) manage to make their way to Turkey and find their seperate way to the secret village that is their goal. Their discovery was endangered when the De Huet siblings found their way to the village as well. After many adventures that overcame that ended their foes, Maud and Guilhem made their way back to Maud's grandfather in France. Who know's what further adventures the Scarlet Rose and The Fox will share?
Dumas by way of manga, in this lively comic for the young. You have to like manga stylings, like googly eyes and multiple swish lines every time something moves, but the bright colours throughout help make it distinctive. I just wish the speech bubbles were much easier to attribute – for a book for this audience it's often far too hard to see where the tails are pointing. This is parts five and six of the original French drama, which I see is up to the 13th instalment, so there's a big time commitment if you find yourself invested in this swashbuckling saga.
Even though I havent read the first 2 installments of this comic, it wasnt hard for me to figure out the plot.
I love comics and the artwork in this was was really good. The story line was fast paced and kept you engaged. Now I have to go find the previous installments of this great story!
The Scarlet Rose is a very well designed comic, the illustrations are magnificent and the story very agile and easy to read. Although I have not read the first two installments, it was not very difficult to get acquainted with the plot..
This comics series is simply amazing. Adventure and romance in the best cloak and dagger tradition are delivered to the reader in beautiful art form. And I'm so happy my favourite ship did not drag on too long before declaring their mutual love. What is going to happen to our favourite couple next? I just can't wait to know...
