Although I bake a lot I'd always been wary of making dougnuts as I thought they were tricky for the home baker. However, this book has taken a lot of the mystery away.
There's a good mixture of new trendy ideas (red velvet and chai) as well as more traditional doughnuts. There are also gluten free doughnuts and baked doughnuts.
The ones I've tried so far have been a success. Would recommend if you want to try baking dougnuts at home.
If you are like me and love to cook sweets but don't have many different recipes to pull from then this book is for you. I love cooking and my typical go to is box mix. Well with this you get a whole lot more and I couldn't have been more thrilled. It also creates some well needed, some family bonding time. This book is great for parents and grands alike.
I love to bake - and doughnuts are a genre I've never delved into before so this book was very intriguing to me. It has my favorite element to a cookbook: PICTURES OF EVERY RECIPE!!! It's rare to find that sometimes and I really am glad this book has so many pictures, especially since I"m not familiar with all the different doughnut varieties! Great book, definitely want to add this to my kitchen shelf collection!
Everything you want to know about doughnuts and more. This book has such amazing recipes for doughnuts in it with everything you would want to make them with. There are also gluten free ones in there also. Listed in 3 catagories you have Doughs, Glazes and Toppings and Flavors. Just looking at the photos makes you want to get out the ingredients and start making them. Some of my favorites are Cinnamon Spice, S'Mores, Gingerbread, Pistachio, and Rainbow Cake. They even have Margarita, Chicken and Doughnuts and much more. There is something for everyone. I know I am going to have a great time making doughnuts with this book and teaching my Granddaughter how to make them too.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
So many recipes, it's like visiting an awesome doughnut shop. The book starts with many different doughs and then includes glazes, fillings, and even some homemade sprinkles. There are also a few international recipes for doughnuts from around the world. Lots of great photos to go along with the creative recipes. The only drawback is that most of the recipes are fried, so if you are looking for a book that includes lots of baked variations, I don't know that this is it. If there is a book that will inspire me to make my own fried doughnuts, this is it.
I am SALIVATING after reading this cookbook! I am always intrigued at how simple it seems to make my own donuts, but I was terrified that it would just turn out to be a giant catastrophe... Well thank you to DOUGHNUTS this cookbook allowed me to become the star in my kitchen with homemade donuts for my three young kids!
There are EVERY type of Doughnut you could imagine along with Vegan, and Gluten Free options and of course TONS of toppings to chose from!
Doughnuts by Lara Feroni
YUM! Guess what I want right now? DOUGHNUTS! With recipes that range from simple to complex and sweet to savory there are recipes for children, adults, vegans, gluten-intolerant and just those looking for something from another country there is no doubt in my mind that there is something for everyone who has a sweet tooth.
I am in awe and if still making doughnuts for children, or not worried about calories, I would snap this book up in a heartbeat. It has a variety of doughs, glazes and flavorings that left my mouth watering. I would love to try a few of these recipes and serve them to friends and just may at some point in the future. I do have a mini-donut maker and donut pans to put into the oven. Now, which recipe should I try first?
Thank you to NetGalley and Sasquatch Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
This donuts won't be quite as good as in the store, but they are a lot of fun to take some time and make with friends and family. Tasty and fairly easy to follow, I highly recommend.
I want to make doughnuts everyday now! These 90 recipes come with mouthwatering pictures and easy to follow directions.
A nice intro on what is needed to make the doughnuts and then a long list of recipes.
I can’t wait to get started making yummy doughnuts!!
I received this ebook copy from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
Doughnuts: 90 Simple and Delicious Recipes to Make at Home is a new tutorial cookbook by Lara Ferroni for creating an endless variety of lovely doughnuts. Due out 25th Sept, 2018 from Sasquatch Books, it's 208 pages and available in ebook, hardback and paperback formats.
I'm a complete fanatic for baked goods. I'm not totally crazy for most types of pie, but otherwise, if it's bready, sweet, baked, fried, or cakey, then heck yeah! Doughnuts are one of my favorites and I never really thought they would be practical to make at home. There is some work involved, but it's not insurmountable and lately I've found myself willing to put in more effort in the kitchen, especially on weekends.
The book is arranged in a logical manner with an introduction and a short discussion of ingredients. There are some good suggestions about different flours and sugars and how they can behave differently from one another in the recipes. The first section after the introductory chapter is all about different doughs. There are a bunch of different textures and ingredients including gluten free and vegan friendly dough recipes.
The second section includes 15 different recipes for glazes and toppings. By mixing and matching doughnut type with toppings, there are a staggering number of combinations. Definitely enough to keep an enthusiastic doughnutter going for ages.
The third section has specific recipes for specific baked and fried goods such as pineapple fritters, apple-cheddar fritters, cream and fruit filled doughnuts and many (many) more. One thing I also liked about this collection was that it includes several recipes which combine sweet and savory. I fully intend to make the chicken and doughnuts and bacon maple bars as soon as possible.
The recipes I've tried from this book are really wonderful. The apple-cheddar fritters were moist inside and crunchy outside and 100% delicious. They were wonderful. The churros were eaten so enthusiastically and disappeared quickly. My family have asked for them constantly since then. Cleanup was a small issue, but honestly it didn't take much longer than cleaning up after a regular weekend breakfast/brunch.
The last section of the book includes a resource list and a recipe index.
The photography is clear and full color and illustrates the recipes well.
Four and a half stars. Lovely book, well executed.
With easy instructions written for home cooks, this book makes it easy to create doughnuts in your own kitchen. I like that it included recipes for other doughnut-like pastries, such as sopapillas, as well as different glazes, icings and fillings.
Since being a Girl Scout and we made doughnuts during a meeting I’ve always wanted to make homemade doughnuts. This cookbook gives is a great help with various ideas including baking. The recipes inside make it easy to make doughnuts at home and this book gives inspiring recipes so you could make them your own too. I love the different ideas of fillings, toppings, glazes and icings for your doughnuts too with traditional and unexpected flavors included. I can't wait to try the S'more doughnut. There are also vegan and gluten-free options.
These are pretty easy recipes with ingredients that my daughter can help me prepare. Great book and I cannot wait to try them all.
While the recipes and doughnuts in this book sound amazing, it also sounds hard to do unless you have a lot of specialized equipment. So if you do have the equipment this would be an amazing addition to your cooking and menu, if you do not....
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for fair review.
So doughnuts, of you want to learn how to make them via this book, you will need the fancy equipments like a stand mixer (like Kitchen Aid or similar), some other fancy kitchen gadgets like thermometers. If you have the equipments mentioned in the book then you will find quite a few handy recipes for basic as well as flavored doughnuts.
A lot of great recipes. Very technical, but not too technical. Just technical enough to make sure your doughnuts are perfection. Overall, very good book and very good doughnuts.
Author Lara Ferroni has sampled some of the most popular doughnut shops in the country (even giving my town of D.C. a shout out to my personal favorites, Sugar Shack and Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken). She is more than qualified to write a cookbook compiled of 90 recipes with gorgeous drool-inducing photography that proves that making doughnuts at home does not have to be an all-encompassing task.. Her writing is friendly and informative, giving the reader a lot of great tips for replicating doughnut shop-quality pastries at home and provides many ingredient alternatives to make vegan and gluten-free doughnuts. In addition, Ferroni includes doughnut recipes from different countries, like Mexican sopapillas and Ghanaian doughnuts. So there's no excuses not to try to make a recipe from this wonderful cookbook.
Tasty-looking doughnut recipes of all types, from the classic to the out-there. I like that it included recipes for other doughnut-like pastries, such as sopapillas, as well as different glazes, icings and fillings. It seems a little daunting, due to so many steps and specifics, but I'm looking forward to trying a few!
