"Impostor's Lure" by Carla Neggers is a crime thriller that promises intrigue and suspense. The book explores a complex web of deceit and deception, with law enforcement agents at the forefront of the investigation. While the premise is intriguing, the pacing can be slow at times, and the multiple plot threads may lead to confusion. Though Neggers' writing style is polished, "Impostor's Lure" may appeal more to die-hard fans of the author's previous works.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my candid review.

This book is number 8 of the Sharpe & Donovan series by Carla Neggers. I believe that I got lost sometimes in this book due to the fact that I have not read the first books in the series. There was much that went on that was a continuation of other story lines in the series. Having said that, I will go back and read other books in this series as I found it very interesting. It is a whodunit series based upon the art world and the world of art forgeries. I will go back and start at Book One.

The one criticism that I have is that it appeared that the author was preparing the readers for yet another twist in the story line.....they prepped the reader.....and then did not go there. I personally would have left the prep out ---or would have twisted yet again.

I received this book from NetGalley to provide an honest review. All opinions are my own in this review.
I have only read one other book by Carla Neggers so I decided to try this one out. I must admit, I'm glad that I did read this and I will be looking into reading other books by this author. This story had a complex plot that takes the readers on an intriguing journey. It also is character driven, with previous history between the characters. I did not realize that this book is part of the Sharpe & Donovan series, and I feel I would have understood more in the story if I had read the books in the correct order (I do plan to read them in order now.) I enjoyed the book and the story can be read without reading previous novels, however, I feel I would have understood more about the characters if I had realized that this is part of a series. Great book, and I'm excited to delve into this series and finding an exciting new author to enjoy reading.

Really enjoyed this latest Sharp and Donovan story. I've been reading Carla Neggers for years (and this series). I read that this could be a stand=alone, but I don't see it. There is a lot of backstory and characters involved and if you didn't know any of the history, it would be difficult to follow along. With the said, I recommend that you read this series from the beginning! This a well-written series with characters you root for and want to succeed.

Thank you #netgalley and #harlequinmira for the eARC.

So, the plot and the characters themselves were well-crafted and interesting. However, if you have not read all the previous entries in this series (I have read only a couple), prepare to be very confused about who all the people are and spend a great portion of your reading time trying to keep people straight on both sides of the Atlantic. Trying to remember who was what and how they fit into the story took a great deal of my enjoyment away. I imagine if you have read the previous seven books, you will enjoy this very much.

You need to be on your toes when you read a book by Ms. Meggers to keep up with the intricate plots and sub-plots that abound in her stories.

A high profile prosecutor seeks out Emma and promises to catch up with her over dinner and disappears. A young woman sets up a meeting with Emma's grandfather and then overdoses in her hotel room only to be saved by Wendell Sharpe. Are these acts random? and what about the shooting of a young man at a house party? How are all these related to the fire at a famous artists property that has destroyed a lot of his paintings leaving a few select ones to appreciate?

As the story comes together in leaps and bounds and unexpected twists and turns it keeps the reader guessing. I am not sure how this will all bring together Aiofe the artist and the parish priest friend of Emma and Colin. Oh and not to forget the banshee? who's death is that for-telling?

Theses stories keep me vested and coming back again and again.

Tamara McDermott is supposed to meet her daughter for her 21st birthday. When Tamara doesn't show, her daughter isn't worried (as a federal prosecutor, she is often absent from family dinners), but Yank, Colin, and Emma are. Trying to find her leads to an increasingly odd puzzle as someone connected to her is found near death and another man has disappeared. Personal bonds are tested beyond all belief in this addition to Sharpe and Donovan.

A sad book (which marks it down for me at this point in my life) but most readers of the series will enjoy it.

I've adored FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan since I began this series. Later I came to appreciate the whole Sharpe clan with their art expertise, and all of those Donovan brothers showing up at just the right time. And while Oliver York was thought to be a criminal art thief for several books, he's now helping the Sharpes and lovely Henrietta solve crimes.
That's the backstory of Neggers' well-developed characters and the intricate relationships among them.
Enter Imposter's Lure. Same characters - plus some - but a bunch of contrived details that seemed like they were backfilled into a pre-written ending. This book needs paring down and re-writing just so I can understand all the complexities. After whittling away some of the convoluted family and friend relationships that don't move the plot forward, then maybe I could enjoy the New England chahhhm, the English countryside, and the Irish lowlands as a backdrop to a sinister plot to make money off of art forgeries ... and destroy the evidence.

I definitely need to go back and read more in this series and continue reading this series when another comes out.

This was a wonderfully written book. I couldn’t put it down for I had to know who was killing and kidnapping and why. The book had subplots at the same time that were intriguing as well. We have the mystery of the overdose of Verity, killing of Graham and Graham’s friend, kidnapping of Tamara, the reason Verity was going to Emma’s grandfather, Emma’s dad, Emma’s grandfather, Emma and Colin’s relationship and their involvement in the killings and kidnappings, and the dynamics between Tamara and her daughter. What’s impressive is that they all tie together and Negger’s does this in a seamless fashion where suddenly it clicks and you are like why didn’t I see this before.

The story lures you in from the beginning and you can’t escape. You get deeper and deeper into the story and just don’t want to get away for fear of missing something. Emma and Colin are great together and complement one another. Especially when it comes to the knowing one another and their strengths. While figuring out what is going on when they are pulled into this mystery by accident, we see them work together and yet separate at times to piece together information and what is going on. We have some intrigue with the art aspect and the convent. We get so many twists and turns it’s hard to decide who is behind it all. YOu get an inkling but it has you wondering if you are right or not and drives you batty so you have to know. I didn’t get Tamara’s daughter at times for she was really on a journey that kept her figuring out herself. She would be angry at her mom but worried. So glad she and her mom ended on a note of beginning to understand each other and a starting of a good relationship of sorts. Finian and Colin you see are at a crossroads especially Colin and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here after all that happened.

The characters are strong and likable especially Colin and Emma’s families. Oliver and Henrietta in London were a odd combo but it worked. They were ying to the yang and really helped when it came to finding information from Verity. The story took place in multiple places and the way it came together was brilliant. You really are drawn in and couldn’t let go.

Impostor's Lure is the 8th book in Carla Neggers' Sharpe and Donovan series. I really enjoy a good "whodunit" with a side of romance and had high hopes for Impostor's Lure. It had all of the elements I look for in a book of this type; a missing person, international intrigue, a little bit of action and some romance thrown in. Impostor's Lure had all of those and yet, it fell short for me. The writing itself was good, but the number of characters to keep up with was too much for me. It's understandable that a series with 8 installments would have a lot of characters, but this book is billed as a standalone. I didn't necessarily need to know the backstory of the cross-over characters to follow the story. My hangup was trying to keep track of who said/did what, where they were and how they all connected throughout the story.

I did enjoy the book. Impostor's Lure checked off my "Whodunit" boxes, and it kept me engaged so much that I read the book in a day. If you are looking for a quick read with a little action, a side of romance and some international intrigue, Impostor's Lure is a good choice.

Wow! This is a good read. But there is a very large group of characters so at times I had to backtrack a bit to clarify something. Overall it was excellent and I would recommend it as a good read.

Carla Neggers is one of the best at writing complex plots with cryptic clues & assorted events that don’t seem to be but end up being related. A tough prosecutor goes to visit her daughter for her birthday & disappears. A linguist is killed in London by a rifle. A woman overdoses in London after just returning from the US while her husband stays behind. All seem to be unrelated coincidences but all end up being part of a coverup. Can Emma & Colin figure out what’s going on? There isn’t any proof, just instincts that something isn’t right.

Ms. Neggers has the ability to take a series of improbable events & ties them to a single plot. Her characters are tough & tenacious in their jobs but warm & loving in their personal lives. Every Sharpe & Donovan story gives the reader more insight into their wonderful families & their married life together. This is another fast paced thriller from a terrific writer!

This is the first book in this series I have read, and to be honest, it took me a long time to really understand what has gone on. There are so many characters and a few different locations. The author does do a good job of explaining who everyone is, how they know each other, etc which for me was necessary.

This book sure kept you on your toes, and I had to know how it was all resolved. And it was a satisfying ending. This book really will keep you interested and really suck you into this story about forgery, murder, disappearances and so much more.

I really enjoyed Emma and Colin and want to see what other stories they have, so I will go back and check out the previous books in this series. I loved Emma's grandfather a lot also, and all the info about art, etc. Overall a great read.

I'm sorry I hadn't read previous books in this series; I think that might have made the read more enjoyable. As it was, there were so many characters that it was hard to keep track of them all and I felt like I was spending more time doing that than just enjoying the story. The story itself seemed to have lots of different things going on too.

Fans of this series will no doubt find a lot to like here. The writing is good and for that I'll give three stars.

It has been a while since I read a Carla Neggers book and I have to say I wasn't crazy about this book. This apparently is the 8th in this series and I am going to tell you, you probably should read the first books to be able to get intrigued in this one. I never did get excited their were too many characters too many cities just a lot of stuff and it drove me crazy. The premise is the prosecutor Thamara is worried about the people her daughter got involved in and decides she wants to find out more from her friend Yank and his associates newly wed Emma and Connor, she sets up a lunch date to discus the situation but get kidnaps before. Then the chaos ensues..

WOW!! This book is intense with twists that you don't see coming. This book kept me on my toes on what was going to happen next. Carla Neggers books always draw me into the story like I'm there watching it unfold. Thank you Netgalley.
