Fabulous book, full of twist and turns. Love being back with Sharpe and Donovan. Had me wanting to read faster and faster so I could find out what happened.. Ending was a bit sad, but I knew it was coming. Highly recommend
This is book 8 in the Sharpe and Donovan series. It helps if you read the books before this one. There are some story lines from the previous books that are talked about in this one. It also helps you know all the characters.
In this book, Emma and Colin investigates when a prosecutor fails to show up for a dinner to celebrate her daughter's birthday. When they hear that Emma's grandfather found a woman who knew the prosecutor's daughter near death, they get worried that her disappearance isn't a vacation. While Emma, Colin, and their HIT team follows the trail in Boston and Maine, her grandfather and friends follows the trail in England.
I have enjoyed every book in this series, and this one did not disappoint. It keeps you guessing and keeps you reading. I can't wait to find out what happens in their next adventure. On a side note, Oliver and Henrietta need their own book.
IMPOSTOR’S LURE is the eighth installment in the Sharpe and Donovan series by Carla Neggers. While I enjoy all of this author’s books, the Sharpe and Donovan series is my favorite. The tie in with art is always fascinating as I love art history. The locations including Ireland and Scotland are interesting and lend themselves well to the storyline. The mystery is always intriguing and entertaining. As with previous novels in this series IMPOSTOR’S LURE does not disappoint. Emma and Colin, still newlyweds start a search for a missing person helping a friend out. As it turns out, the woman’s disappearance is connected to another missing person. I won’t give any more details so that I don’t spoil the book for you. Just know it is a great mystery that kept me turning pages when I should have turned out the light!
I received this arc from NetGalley and Harlequin-Mira. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own. I love the Sharpe series. Some more than others. I enjoyed this one more than The Thiefs Mark. Though this one had plenty of twists and turns, it didn't feel so lost. I knew whose POV I was reading. This is an engaging mystery with of who done it and why. Put on your thinking cap and see if you can connect all the dots, or if your surprised There are family issues, love and sorrow. Come with Emma and Colin as they take another step on their journey in life.
This book is part of the Sharpe and Donovan series. The author explains the back story and relationships between characters in the book but I still had a hard time keeping them straight. It might be because I haven’t read all the previous books in the series. Readers who have kept up with the series will probably enjoy this book. There was a good plot about art fraud. There is suspense, murder and plenty of twists and turns in the book. My reason for the 3* rating is because I had trouble keeping the characters straight. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Another book in the Sharp and Donovan series. I do wish she would end this series as there is so much repeating of past story lines in each book. I did enjoy the book but it was confusing at times to keep up with all of the characters from both countries
I have been reading Carla Neggers for years now. From romance to romantic suspense, she always delivers a top-notch book. This one was no exception, with a group of characters that I remember from her previous Sharpe and Donovans series and a solid plot line and decent mystery. If you have never read this author, and you like romantic suspense novels, you should give this author a try. I received this e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.
Hate to say it, but I am finally disappointed in a Sharpe & Donovan book and deviating from my normal 4 star rating to give this a mere 2 stars. The story cranks along nominally until we hit the big reveal at about the 80% point. Then, the flow seems to hit a wall at high speed as it disappears into a disappointing resolution, disjointed dialogues out of nowhere, and disconnected tie up of loose ends. I do not know what happened to the end of this book, but I hope it is a one off since I have always been excited to jump on new releases in the series until Impostor's Lure. Sorry fans.
art-fraud, art-theft, murder, international-crime-and-mystery, law-enforcement, suspense
Great suspense plus knitting! Art fraud, several murders, FBI and MI5 make for very interesting stuff, but it's the interweaving of plots, important characters, and the escalating tension to find the motives as well as learning more about the interpersonal relationships of the multiple essential characters that drives the reader to abandon other tasks and keep on reading. The publisher's blurb gives some ideas but really can't convey the intensity of this very well written mystery. The romantic aspects are development of already established couples, not the seeking variety. There is no erotica either.
I requested and received a free ebook courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. Many thanks!
Impostors Lure is such an emotional book. This book has Emma’s dad’s Tim and his struggle with pain and opioids. My heart just broke for Emma and her family. This book didn’t end on a happy note. Carla Neggers is such a prolific writer. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A good mystery with a lot of twists and turns as mentioned, but the main issue I had with the story was trying to keep track of who was who, both in the US and in the UK. Emma and Colin tended to be the main characters, but a lot of others were so dominate it was hard to tell at times. I did enjoy the mystery, and it kept my interest to the end, just had to work a bit to keep track of the different players. Would recommend though, as the story was good.
I really wanted to like this book as I have been enjoying the series up to now., But I am tired of having the whole back story of each of the character explained repeatedly in each book. I understand that the history is critical to understanding the story if you read the books individually but it is overkill to keep repeating it throughout every book. It gets in the way of this story and was hugely distracting. I muddled through to the end and do like the story but really, give up the rehashing already.
All in all I am still a fan but this one disappoints.
Carla Neggers ALWAYS delivers! In this newest, our newlyweds, FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan, are in for some twists and turns and some surprises right along with the reader. I think Neggers upped her game with this one and I had to read it in one sitting.
