3/5. Read this back in 2018 and did not review it back then. I don't remember enough about it to give it proper feedback.

After undergoing my own healing journey that led me within myself to find the root of the issue, I have been passionate about helping to encourage and add to the shift of awareness about dis-ease and what we need to do to heal. I think this book is a wellspring of wisdom from a myriad of wonderful sources, and that it contains a powerful and prudent message about the shift our medical system needs. Every person has the power to heal within themselves, and we all need to be reminded of that!

Thank you APG Publishing and Netgalley for this ARC.

This was an inspiring book outlining ways in which people have healed, even when the odds have been against them., it is the type of book you can pick up here and there and read over a period of time.

Healing Happens is an engaging, heartfelt read. Miller shares her story—and others’—with passion and is clearly dedicated to exploring the topic at hand. Those looking for a book that is conversational will enjoy her work—it reads like a coffee shop chat/catch-up with someone who trusts you implicitly and isn’t afraid to share what they’ve learned. Miller’s prose is at times a little long-winded, but never pretentious. While I wasn’t completely captivated by her conversational style, I think it will be well received by many readers who are interested in alternative healing modalities.

This book includes transcriptions of interviews with various individuals with expertise in alternative healing modalities. Most of the individuals interviewed claim to have achieved impressive healing results for themselves and their clients.

Be aware that this book has more of a spiritual/religious slant than scientific. Some sections make claims about scientific studies, but the original studies are not cited. When a reference is cited, it is often a general news source such as U.S. News & World Report or Mother Jones. If you’re comfortable getting your health information from Goop, then you’ll likely enjoy this.

Also, this book has a strong bias towards veganism. I would have found this easier to tolerate if I didn’t feel like the author was pushing her religious views on readers without warning.

Despite all of that, I did feel like the stories in this book had some useful suggestions. I liked the format, where each chapter consisted of an interview, then a summary section of “Wisdom to Remember,” then a section of “What You Can Do.”

I think the ideal audience for this book is anyone who is struggling with a chronic illness and needs an infusion of hope that healing is possible. Odds are you will find at least a couple of suggestions worth trying out, and the overall tone of the book is encouraging.

I was provided an ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review. Because I have not seen the final published version, I cannot comment on the final editing and formatting. The ARC was neatly formatted, although the endnotes were not hyperlinked and were therefore difficult to use. I noticed a few proofreading errors, but not so many that most readers would be bothered if they are not corrected in the final version.

As soon as I read the description of "Healing Happens" I had the strong sense I'd love this book, and I was correct. Yes, the book is inspiring and it contains wonderful interviews with acclaimed health experts. Avital's book is a passion project; she had suffered from Hashimoto's Disease and that experience inspired her to create this collection of journeys that will move and inform the reader and give her hope. Highly recommended!

This is the best book ever! I can so relate to some of the stories mentioned in this book. After being diagnosed with a rare medical condition and doctors giving up hope, I understand the pain people go through when doctors give up hope. From diet changes to meditations, this book is very informative. I applaud Avital Miller's dedication and the amount of research and hard work she has put through to tell the world about the wonderful stories of healing. Thank you NetGalley and APG publishing for the ARC.
