I did not know that this was a series. Therefore, I found it hard for me to get to know the characters. The story itself was fun and fast-paced. I plan on reading the first two novels to get a grasp on the characters.

I liked this book but because I did not read the first in the series I could not really understand who the characters were and why they were the way they were

This is a fun, though predictable mystery. As this is the third book in a series, not everything is clear/explained to the reader.
However, what I did not like is that most of what causes the issues is due to the characters not actually communicating, which I find very frustrating. The whole story seems rather influenced by the Deus-ex-machina trope and Terry, the main character is sadly a very Mary-Sue character,

When a dead body turns up with a post-card addressed to Terry with the thumb print of one of her best friend Awad’s on it Terry doesn’t know whether to go in hiding or not especially when there is one police officer keeps appearing. Terry runs into Officer Kim on several occasions’ one being when the security alarm at their apartment is triggered.

Awad has been sending Terry presents which contain clues and little puzzles that she along with the help of her friends, Maude, Zack, Fraser, and Jackson to find a medallion. Terry has just learned about the power of three. The power of three is an asp, diadem and a medallion. Terry has the asp tattooed on her arm that gives her super-human powers and she knows that she ran across the diadem at a dig. It is said that whoever has all three will be incredibly powerful but there is one little loop-hole to having this incredible power.

What is this loop hole? Who is willing to pay the price for all this power and if this power lands in the wrong hands what will happen to that person or maybe even the world? What length would someone go to have all this power? What would they sacrifice to behold it?

Terry and her Scooby-doo mates are now racing against the clock to find this lost medallion before it lands in the wrong hands. But can she keep herself and all her friends alive long enough to solve the case?

I have followed Terry’s story from the beginning starting with the first book ASP of Ascension and then in the second book Diadem of Death in the Nefertari Hughes Mystery. I fell in love with Terry and Maude as well as the rest of the crew in the first book. I love the history of the archaeology sites and digs that Terry and her Dad were on.

Terry is a great person with a very big heart and I think she would be great in whatever field she chose to enter or what classes she decides to take in college. All the characters are real easy to follow and get caught up in as if you were there with them or someone you would like to know in real life. The author makes them seem as if they are real.

When I picked up Medallion of Murder I couldn’t put it down I had to know what the Scooby-doo team was up to next and what path they were taking us down. Medallion of murder is filled with so many twist and turns that keeps you hanging on and waiting for more.

If you have not read this wonderful story, Medallion of Murder then I highly suggest that you do but I would suggest that you start with the first book ASP of Ascension and the second book Diadem of Death before reading Medallion of Murder in order to get Terry’s and everyone else’s backstory so you won’t miss a thing. It has been proven that you can read Medallion of Murder first but you miss out on so much when you do. So add the Nefertari Hughes Mystery series to your TBR list today!

Thank you to Xpressobooktours for the free copy and being able to be apart of the blog tour.

Full disclosure I didn't realize this was the third book in the series until I went to start reading it. Some of my opinions on it will not fully reflect the series nor should it stop you from starting the series.

I absolutely loved the history parts of this book. I grew up loving everything about Egypt and I am so glad to finally be seeing it in a YA series. I know several middle-grade series our about Egypt but I personally haven't seen many ya ones, if I'm missing them please let me know what they are so I can read them!

A lot of the relationships I found a little confusing at times to figure out who was who and how they were all connected. I did figure this all out about 20% into the book. This was completely my fault though because I hadn't read the first two books. I also found the Illuminati a little confusing as well, because of how secretive everything about it was.

What I liked.

I really did like the history as I mentioned before. I also liked how the main character Terry does use a prosthetic leg and that is made to be normal, no one was weirded out by it including her boyfriend as they get more serious and started talking about certain things. Terry's best friends are amazing and I adore them. They are supportive and informative and just jump right in and find ways to help Terry solve the problem that they are being faced with. Awad was a character I was a little unsure of at first, because of certain things and I really didn't trust him fully because of how secretive he was being about certain things.

What I felt meh about.

How secretive everything was about certain things. I really didn't see a point in half of it because of how dangerous things got by the end. People needed to know the secrets, but couldn't for reasons that I kind of understand, but I still don't like the reasons.

Overall I did enjoy this book. I will say that this is a series that builds off of each book so it should be read in order to fully understand everything. I do want to read the first two books in the series and reread this one because I do think I missed a lot of things because I just didn't understand what was going on. I will review the first two books when I read them, and possibly add more to this review after I have reread it.

Terry is home trying to enjoy Christmas but finding it difficult. When a dead person is found with a postcard addressed to her, the police come to her house asking questions. There is no message on the postcard but the scene on the card has Terry wondering if Awad is trying to tell her something. What? Whois the murdered man? As Terry starts her own investigation with her two friends, they discover more mysteries than answers. She discovers that they are looking for an artifact. Why? Will she be able to find out what is being looked for?

In this fast-paced mystery, the author has continued to write an excellent novel that made me want to keep reading it. I now want to know what will happen to Terry in the next mystery adventure. This is an exquisite series!

Unfortunately I hadn't read the preceding two books in this series so it took a little time to acquire some of the basic background. However, this didn't prevent me from enjoying this.
The elements of egyptian historical background and mystery combine to create a believable storyline and Myers creates a strong plot with various twists and turns that lead to elements of doubt on both the part of the main character and also the reader - making the reader want to read to the conclusion for the answers.
Although sometimes a little too predictable, I would recommend this to young adult readers who are looking for a younger and simpler version of Dan Brown's writing.

Medallion of Murder is about Terry growing up from her reckless days in Diadem of Death--from deciding what to study in university and navigating a fraying long-distance relationship, it seems like life almost as normal. Except for her weird nightmares about Meera. When strange things start happening again, Terry and her band of friends must decide what to do--without getting anyone arrested or killed.

The third book in the Nefertari Hughes Mystery series, Medallion of Murder suddenly seems grimmer and more grown-up than the first two, as it probably should be. After all, Terry has survived death twice by now (or was it three times? I forget). Still, they're teens, so there's a fair share of stupid decisions and light moments scattered throughout the book.

'Expectations' seems to be the theme of this book, whether it's Terry's worry about disappointing her father due to her career choices, or what both she and Zach want from their relationship--and even how Awad seems to expect her to want to leave her peaceful American life. Again, nothing is what it seems, and not everyone is who they're supposed to be, and the Illuminati's involvement just makes everything much more confusing.

It has a good ending though--and one that hints at an even more interesting book to come in the series as Terry and Maude settle into who they are.

Note: I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was given the book with no expectation of a positive review and the review is my own.

Daughter of Egyptologists and superpower wielding Nefertari Hughes is at it again. Halfway through her senior year in high school, Terry's got some major life decisions ahead of her. The rest of her life is looming and Terry and her best friend Maude must decide what they're going to do next. Unfortunately, their choices aren't exactly what their parents had in mind for them, and they're both avoiding that reveal.

Soon, mind a jumble of thoughts and emotions about the future, Terry's wrapped up in another big mystery involving Cleopatra's legacy. Is it right for Terry to involve her friends and boyfriend in the danger that seems to follow her? Is she taking foolish risks because of her powers or is she simply a victim of circumstance?

I enjoyed this next installment of the mysteries--I especially loved the way Maude seems to be coming into her own as the series continues. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens in the next installment of the Nefertari Hughes mysteries.

I received this ebook from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third novel in the Nefertari Hughes series, and it is not the last. It was an interesting read but in some ways the Illuminati trope is becoming a little cliché. Maybe it is the style in this series, or maybe it is the genre in general, but a fair amount of this book was predictable. I have really been enjoying the series, and yet this third book is my least favorite. At the end of this volume is a sneak peak at book 4, Relic of Revenge. I received advance reading copies of both books one and two before either hit stores. The premise is great, and the characters are wonderful. But this book just did not pull it off the way the other two did.

This book takes placed shortly after book two. The description of the book is:

"Still struggling with nightmares from the past summer, Terry tries to bury her secret guilt and enjoy her family's first Christmas in Devonshire. But when a murdered man is found with a postcard addressed to her, Terry fears the repercussions from that fateful night in Egypt are becoming a reality.

After she receives a coded message from Awad, Terry and her best friend Maude are thrown into the hunt for a lost medallion, an artifact that possesses a great power-and a gruesome destiny. As each clue leads to more disturbing truths (and bodies), Terry begins to suspect she's the real target of the search. When Awad goes missing, she becomes certain the Illuminati are involved, and has no choice but to risk losing the thing she cherishes the most to get him back.

But Terry will soon discover the secrets of the tomb cannot be erased by distance or power, because the ghosts of her past are closing in quickly… and this time, they refuse to stay buried."

This Terry is still having nightmares from her trip to Egypt. And soon she starts seeing things. A dark shadowy figure seems to be staying one step ahead of her. Can she piece together the clues? Can she figure out the puzzle? Will she trust the right people?

The story takes place at a break neck pace. The events unravel over the period of several days. This time the story takes place almost completely in Devonshire, the town Terry and her father moved to prior to book one. She has her friends, her boyfriend and Awad. But not everyone is what they appear and things go sideways very quick.

This book really requires you to have read the previous volumes. The story jumps in and gets going right away. There is very little back story and a lot of alluding to previous events. I really waffled on what rating to give this book. I finally decided on 4 stars rather than 3 because I love the series as a whole so much. If you have not read the other books, do not start here. If you have, you will be excited to see what happens next. I good read in a great series.

The mystery continues in Nefertari Hughes Mystery #3. As I've read and loved both book one and two in this series, I've been looking forward to reading this one. It's just as intriguing and engaging as first two books has been. I already love all the characters, especially Terry. Even with her super-human abilities she is still a teenager and simply trying to make the best choices she can. Her father doesn't always agree with her and he isn't happy with her carrier choice either. But this is something Terry needs to figure out on her own. She is lucky to have some amazing friends who are always there to support her. With their help she is able to get through almost everything in her life... Unfortunately, her nightmares are something she needs to deal with alone. The past is definitely coming back to haunt her. And when Awad went missing after leaving her random clues, there is no way she isn't going to look for him. But will they be able to uncover the truth before it's too late and also what kind of sacrifices will they be making this time?
One thing is clear though, things are not always as they seem and past cannot remain buried for long.
I loved it! It took me a while to get into the story as I had actually forgotten most of the story (ops!), but once I did there was no putting down this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to all mystery lovers, especially those who enjoy touch of myth and intrigue along with a good adventure in their books.

This book was a rollercoaster ride of expectations for me. First, I requested it, because it sounded like something I would very much like, even despite I haven't read the first two volumes in the series. Than I felt for a relatively long time like it really would've been necessary to read those first, thus I expected it was gonna be like that all along. Then I found myself completely lost in this book, and enjoyed it so much!
As I said, the beginning of my journey through this novel started out rather rocky. I soon realized that this is only a half new story, and though I could mostly make out what happened before, this book isn't entirely a separate arc of story. This made reading the first third a bit hard. I could tell I would like it more, had I read the previous books, and I kind of understood and appreciated the story alright. My only problem was that this way I felt a little disconnected. I liked it, but I wasn't emotionally invested.
I don't know what happened then, but a little time (and pages) had passed, and I realized I don't want to put this novel down anymore. Somehow along the way I found myself being sucked in, I cared about the characters and the happenings, I felt everything I was supposed to feel.
See, this book has a hint of many things that I like: mystery, history, fantasy, action, emotions... yet it doesn't come off as trying too hard. It's not chaotic or forced. It all seems natural, and I think that's amazing! There were plot twists that I predicted, still it was not boring at all. By the end, I was genuinely interested in these characters and how things were going to turn out, and that feeling went beyond this book.
The rating would probably be even higher, if it wasn't my first volume in the series (so it's my fault, obviously). Even in spite of that, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and I want to read the other volumes so badly! I do recommend this book, but I would suggest to read the series in order.

First off I want to thank NetGalley and Blue Moon Publishers for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel. I have just recently discovered this series and it has become one of my favorite series ever in the mystery genre. I requested this book and then realized it was the third book in a series so I quickly picked up the first two books and read them back to back so that I would not be lost. It was a smart move because I think I would have been slightly left out of the relationships. I actually think that is a good thing because BR Myers does not spend time on a full chapter of back story. She does pepper the information throughout the book when you need a refresher here or there. I think that is a better way to do things as it does not slow down the story. that being said you can totally read this book and not really be lost. You just won't have the ability to see Terry meet each person from the previous books.

This book picks up at Christmas time with Terry still struggling with the horrible experiences she survived last Summer in Egypt. She keeps suffering nightmares as well as dealing with the guilt she feels for what she feels are the problems she brought upon her friends and boyfriend. She is also dealing with the pains of growing up as she and Maude will be graduating and everyone in her Scooby ay be going their own way. Into all of this comes the feeling she is being watched, strange happenings all around and of course an Egyptian artifact. I did wish Terry had grown a bit more but by the end of the novel she seems to have developed into an adult. I guess after all of the trauma she suffered it only makes sense that she needed to deal with that first and foremost.

Senior year is supposed to be the best part of high school, but Terry is still recovering from the crazy summer at an archaeological dig where she nearly died. Her friends Maude and Fraser are supportive, but her boyfriend is off at college and the occasional weekend visits aren't enough. There is school and decisions about where to go to college or whether to take a break and work. Strange dreams are disturbing Terry's sleep and they also hear that Tanya, a fellow student, is being treated at the local hospital. A homeless man shows up in several locations, even in the lobby of Terry's building. Another man is found dead in the neighborhood. Weird graffiti appears and includes some of the images from Terry's dreams. And how does it all tie in with strange comments from Tanya about "the power of three"? Terry has the mark of the asp, and she encountered the diadem at the dig. What is this third artifact?

With a mix of teenage romance, Egyptian mythology, mystery and some action scenes, this is a book that will pull readers in and keep them quickly turning the pages to see what happens next. Whether readers enjoy the mystique of ancient artifacts, the suspense of coded messages, the dynamics of teenage dating, or just the real drama of navigating the move from high school on to college and career - there is plenty to hold their attention.

Somehow I'd missed the fact that this is the Third book in a series. And I did feel a bit disconnected. The characters were clearly already developed, not much intro given there.

I tried my best to be engaged but I would lie if I said that I found this book unputdownable.

I think you have to start from the beginning here to be truly psyched about Nefertari Hughes.

Thank you NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Never saw the ending coming! Although I did like Medallion of Murder, I fear that Terry did not do a lot of growing up character wise. Medallion of Murder has to be read after her first two books to make sense. A little slow in the pace for me, but that is okay because Terry has a lot of issues to sort out.
I hope that this is just the third of many, and not 3/3.

Nefertari “Terry” Hughes is getting ready to spend Christmas in Devonshire with her friends and father. But, she’s still having nightmares about the past. She fears they are coming true when a murdered man is found with a postcard addressed to her. When she receives a coded message from Awad, Terry enlists her other friends to help find a lost medallion. This artifact is supposed to hold incredible power. But, could this medallion also hold the key to Terry’s future?
I really wanted to love this young adult mystery, but I couldn’t connect with the protagonist like I did with the last book. The character was different, she was more like a superhero instead of a disabled teen looking for purpose. At the end, I actually saw glimpses of the former character, but it was too late in the story. The plot was very intriguing and was the reason I continued reading. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

I was so excited to get my hands on the third book and it did not disappoint! You all really need to add this book to the top of your TBR!

Contains very minor spoilers...

Terry’s nearing her high school graduation and trying to decide what to do for college. She also needs to decide if she’ll take an important step forward with Zack. Meanwhile, she’s still having nightmares regarding Meera’s death in the last book. When she finds out she’s not the only one having nightmares, it makes her question whether Meera really died or if she was able to survive the fall. Awad is also a plot point as he’s potentially missing and the police are looking for him for some questionable things. This book has a lot of action! I really liked how Myers includes a lot of high-stakes scenes without giving me a panic attack :) She gives these scenes the perfect balance so they’re not overwhelming yet still engrossing. I also love how Myers further develops Maude and Terry’s friendship. My only minor complaint is that I feel bad for Zack- I feel like he always gets the short end of the stick. Myers, you’re killing me! #teamzackalltheway! Can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!
