With her third book in her Alpha men series, Natasha Anders does not disappoint. I enjoyed that Lia was a grown woman and still thinking like a silly teenager. Her growth is nice to watch. It made it possible for Sam to see she was trying to take control of her own life. So when he starts to reevaluate his own life he had to deal with some of the same issues. Together they were great for just a fling but to stay together they had to grow-up. The laughs at themselves and those around them kept up a fast-paced well-developed storyline. The fact that there were a lot of people involved usually makes for filer but each character had a purpose and in the end, you'll be surprised. The love scenes are steamy and not just used for fluff.
I absolutely love the way Natasha Anders writes a story. There is something about her stories that make them more than similar titles I have read. That makes them better. When I pick up a story one of her stories I can't put it down. And I love every minute of it.
I was really curious to start reading The Wrong Man. If you have read the prior books in the series (not needed as they are all standalones), then you met Sam briefly. And if you were like me you did not like him very much...but were excited to see if he could be redeemed. What he was really like when he is not being shall we say a jerk. When he was not trying to get in Dahlia's pants even though she was resisting. Because I really didn't like what I knew of him in the last book so I was curious to see if the author would get me to change my mind...and she did. By the end he was so sweet and kind and I loved him.
Dahlia and Sam don't start off on that good of terms. Sure she gives in and they hook up, twice, at her sister's wedding, but that was supposed to be a one-time thing. A never see him again so it is okay kind of thing. Because he is the wrong man for her, of that she is certain. And she is looking for the right one. The guy she can settle down with and get married to and have kids with. Because that is what she wants. That is what she has always wanted, and Sam is not that guy. He is very clear when he suddenly comes back into her life that he is not that guy. He is not the relationship type. He doesn't want it and never will. He is the hookup and have some fun while he is in town guy. So if she wanted to have some fun then he was all for that, but she is trying to find someone to spend the rest of her life with. After her disaster of a first try at marriage, she is still not quite sure what she really wants to do with her life. She is living with her parents and starting to come around, but it is hard. Everyone else seems to know what they want, what they want to do, have found their perfect match, but not her. So...maybe some fun with Sam is what she needs. Maybe one long fling, as long as she knows that it is going nowhere and follows her rules so things don't get confusing it might be alright. Because she is definitely attracted to him and the sex was pretty amazing...
Sam is in town just until he heals. He got injured on the job and needed a quiet, safe place to lay low. Only he can't do everything for himself like he wanted. And when he sees Lia again he is reminded of how attracted to her he is. He loves her whole buttoned-up librarian type clothes. He just wants to rumple her smooth, sleek exterior a little bit. Oh, he was cute. Yeah, he gets her to help him out to try and get her to give in and sleep with him again, but he wasn't counting on him being the one affected. That he would start to care about her and want her around.
These two are pretty opposite in a lot of ways. Sam says what he wants and is usually pretty outrageous while Lia is that prim, proper lady who would do anything anyone asked. She has a hard time saying no, doesn't swear, is just a nice person. So while Sam can be a jerk at times, he also can be super sweet and just what Lia needs. I wasn't expecting to like Sam as much as I did. I loved watching him try and figure everything out and everything that happens. These two were perfect for each other even if they don't seem like it at first glance. Oh, this was a fun read. I loved these characters and am a little sad that there are no more sisters to read.
I have chosen not to finish this title. I just thought the hero was a jerk. I thought he was crude and harsh at the wedding, and when he was injured and I could not find myself caring a little, I decided to stop reading and move on to another title.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity.
Thanks,
Laura
Dahlia aka Lia and Sam were cute together. They both appeared such polar opposites emotionally speaking and they both had drastically different end goals in life. Sam's unconventional upbringing colored his view on monogamy and marriage and Lia's dreamed of nothing but her one true love since she was old enough to know about those things. Their story is about letting go on the past, learning about oneself and evolving/adapting to new life choices and circumstance.
This had a little bit of a love/hate vibe going on and also a friends to lovers feel to it. Sam and Lia were a yummy confusing mess. Their chemistry was explosive, their budding friendship was cute and their up and down love story entertaining. It had a lot of funny moments between the MCs, between the sisters and between a few other side characters that kept the story light. It also had a few WTF moments mostly regarding Lia's stubborness and Sam's A-whole attitude the few times he panicked or felt cornered.
What I liked: The story developed over a decent amount of time. Both Sam and Lia had to grow and evolve. It wasn't insta-love for either one of them and it was refreshing to see them both pursue the other at times.
Would I recommend? Yes. I loved all the bantering and back and forth between them. The sexual tension was there in spades and both characters were memorable and likable.
This was my first book by this author. The prologue for this book was a total downer. I hated Sam Brand the first few pages of getting introduced to him. What an egotistical, rude jerk. Thought he was gods gift to women and I totally disliked him. The whole quickie in the barn set up was just cold to me, barely any forplay or chemistry between two people who are supposedly hot for each other. It have to say it did get better though. Lia is getting over a disasterous breakup from a guy she was supposed to marry and is currently living back at home with her parents. After her one night stand with Sam, Lia thought she would never see him again. Sam who was wounded on the job is laying low to try and heal when Lia is thrust back into his life. He’s in pain and is surly, curt and rude but soon Lia is able to bring him out of his shell and they have pretty good chemistry together once he stops being a jerk. They are pretty smoking hot in the sack and two people who had sworn off love and relationships quickly develope a bond with each other. Cute read and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Falling in love slowly!
Dahlia (Lia) McGregor had a short fling with bodyguard Sam Brand and never thought she would see Sam again except family occasions until he came to recover from his injuries he had gotten while protecting his girlfriend. Lia thought that Sam was dating his client and Sam thought that Lia was just looking for a husband.
Lia was going on dates trying to find someone when Sam decided that he didn’t want Lia to date anybody while he wanted to restart their fling. Lia loved living in a small town where everybody helped each other and Sam was used to being on guard most of the time protecting his clients or running the security company.
Sam and Lia were a fun couple to read about because they were so different people and Natasha Anders made it work. The Wrong Man is the third book in the Alpha Men series and it truly is a stand-alone read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When Sam encourages Lia to re-indulge in another one night stand with him at her sister’s wedding, she is adamant that she will not. However, the man is incorrigible and his crude and crass actions should be a complete turn off but that sexy smile and the memory of that one incredible night a week ago shakes her resolve and she gives in.
Now, four months later Sam is laid up in her small town needing time to heal from an attack that could have killed him. She should have never agreed to that first night together, or the second night. She should never have agreed to deliver groceries to the cabin where he will be convalescing. She should never have agreed to help take care of him. And she most certainly should have never agreed to a fling. But she did and now she’s trying to figure out not only how to make life work for her, but how to keep an emotional distance from the man who does not want marriage and babies and has no desire for anything but a short term arrangement.
I really enjoyed this couple. Sam, despite his outspoken, blatant mannerisms and his sometimes cranky nature was actually sweet and incredibly funny. I loved watching him transform from a dedicated bachelor to a man in love because he didn’t have a freaking clue what was happening. And despite his declarations of not wanting the things Lia wanted, he hated anything that kept her from connecting with him. With strong jealous and certainly possessive tendencies, he yields to the attraction and yet remains confused about that ache in his chest.
Lia was so prim and proper. Never a curse word, always polite, never saying no to any request from her friends, family and neighbors, but very capable of saying it to Sam. Even if she’d rather say yes. The dream she once had was crushed and although she’s trying to find Mr. Right to reignite it, she rationalizes her way back into Sam’s bed. Her growth from lost and confused to self-reliant and confident was completely organic and believable.
This had a slower pace to it as there isn’t really any drama driving the story. However, I never once skimmed as this is all about this couple and their developing relationship in the midst of family and community. The secondary characters are exceptional and the heroine’s sisters have their own stories. The steam is off the charts especially with this dirty talking hero. While this is part of a series it can stand alone and has a very nice epilogue that gives us a glimpse five years down the road.

I graded this book up from 3 1/2 star. Overall, this is an enjoyable romance and is the third book in the Alpha Men series.
Sam is a pretty solid hero, a little on the crass side and borderline sleazy at times but mostly he is a likable guy. Daisy is likable too, but almost too sweet and accommodating. She is still likable, you just feel a little bit sorry for her at times. I think the couple grew together over the course of the book and I liked them together and felt like they belonged together.
I think the book would have been better if it was a little bit shorter, I felt like the book dragged a little bit here and there but I never found the book boring, just a little rambling at times.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
Really enjoyed this one. I've really liked Dahlia through the prior books with all her verbal ramblings and this book definitely continues that. She is truly hilarious. You just know when Lia and Brand start out their no strings fling that it will never stay that way but who falls first is a surprise. Both of these characters are great and I loved them together. I hated how Lia's family treated her at time but you can still feel the love that was there. Overall a very enjoyable well done book that I think everyone will enjoy.
The Wrong Man had everything I love in a Natasha Anders story - highly charged chemistry and obstacles between the hero and heroine & lots sexy goodness!
“Hello there, Miss Priss,” he greeted softly, his eyes taking in her cap-sleeved, knee-length, sky-blue dress with the high neck and slightly flared skirt. “You’re looking very pretty and proper this evening, and you know what that does to my blood pressure.”
When are these McGregor girls going to learn that casual flings never stay casual for them?
Now that the Carlisle brothers have found their happily ever afters with 2 of the three McGregor sisters, I was very excited to read Brand and Lia’s story. I had browsed a few early reviews (I know, I know, I shouldn’t have) so I was nervous that I wasn’t going to like Brand, but I’m so happy that wasn’t the case.
On the surface, Lia and Brand’s arrangement was only a no-strings fling. I fully expected Lia to get emotionally entangled from the get go, but it was surprising how attached Brand got in such a short amount of time. I really liked both of these characters and I loved them together.
Lia’s quirky personality and verbal diarrhea were hilarious! I hated how her family seemed to assume the worst of her and criticize her choices instead of actually getting to know what her dreams and plans were. To be fair, though, she kept a lot to herself.
“You’re engaged?” he asked, thankfully letting her weird little fiction about Daisy and Mason’s possible future children slide.
“Well, not yet. But soon.”
“Yeah?” His face was like granite and revealed not a single emotion. Not even pain. That was some feat, considering how protectively he was hunched over his arm. “Who’s the lucky guy?”
“I haven’t really met him yet,” she said, feeling increasingly self-conscious.
I liked Brand from the moment he entered a scene. Even when he was being a douche, I was still on in because seemed so vulnerable when it came to Lia. I especially liked his interactions with the people about town as he followed Lia on her many errands.
We got to see how Daisy and Daffodil, the other two MgGregor sisters were making out in this story. Daffodil’s dislike for Brand, especially given his “take no shit” response to her was awesome. Their personalities were so similar that it didn’t surprise me how they bumped heads all the time. The only time they seemed to come together was in protection of Lia, from her her horrible suitors.
“Me? Ask her creepy boyfriend, Ichabod Crane. He’s the one who came slithering over and embarrassed her in front of half the town.”
“Icha—wait, do you mean Grantley Marsh?” Daff asked Sam with wide eyes.
“Gregory,” Lia corrected automatically.”
Though we did see some angst during the story, I loved how it turned around at the end. Great read!
hmm. probably more like 3.5, but enough to round up, so 4 it is. not my favourite of the series, book 1 holds that title for me. unfortunately. sam was a bit too much of a jerk and took a bit too long to redeem himself. lia was so... naive and weak, though she does grow a backbone eventually which is fantastic. just wish it happened a bit quicker. i could have done without all the other dates, they were just a bit too over the top for me, especially the gropey guy.
all that being said, sounds like i hated it, not at all. i do wish the characters were a bit different, but on the same page, i love that the characters in this series have all been realistic with flaws and all. i like that all of the characters have been significantly different in each book, not like other series where you could basically just change the names.. anyway. so point for natasha anders for sure.
i loved the story, how sam and lia got started. i love how sam came around. i love that he wanted him to call her sam.
and finally, that epilogue. KILL ME NOW. dead. that was freaking beautiful. 10/10 for the epilogue. this was such an enjoyable series, one i can see myself rereading one day.
I was slow getting into this story. Sam and Dahlia were supposed to be a one and one. Then it turned casual and feelings started getting in the way. These two characters I hated to fall in love with. I was very annoyed at first with their attitudes and behaviors but as the story progressed so did they. This is a newer author that was recommended to me and I’m glad I gave her a read. I did manage to get sucked into the story. All in all it was a good read and I will definitely be looking for more.
Natasha Anders is ine of my go to authors that i can always count on for my romance fix. This book just proves how amazing and talented this author really is.
The Wrong Man is Book 3 in Natasha Anders Alpha Men series. Even though I've read the other 2 books in this series already (although not in order), I think this would stand perfectly fine on its own.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Was Sam a bit of a hard head and a jerk at times? Yes and Lia could be considered a bit naive at times as well but it worked! It drew me in right from the start and kept me engaged throughout. The sparks flew off the pages between Sam and Lia. I loved watching the hard shell around Sam's heart start to crack over time (the dog!) and Lia found her way in.
Overall, this was a great addition to the series and I look forward to more of what this author has to offer.
4+ Solid Stars
This was a fun read, which I was 100% in the mood for and which I finished in one sitting.
It is definitely my favorite of the three Alpha Men books so far and and I enjoyed it immensely.
It had one of my favorite romance book plot gimmicks AKA, the "we are forced to be around each other for a while because of [blank]," in this case starting off with Daisy and Mason's wedding and Sam and Lia (the H and the h) both being in the bridal party.
It pretty much took off right where the last book ended and dove RIGHT into the flirty-dirty fun, which I always find refreshing and fun.
I really liked Sam and Lia as characters, both independently and as a couple. Their banter was great.
Definitely recommend if you are in the mood for a sexy, lighthearted, "friend to lovers-esque" romance.
I often enjoy Natasha Anders' books and this is a book I was looking forward to when it was telegraphed in the earlier books in this series. Unfortunately, while I did like it overall, it had some pretty big flaws in it too.
While there are elements of the "opposites attract" trope here, Sam Brand just wasn't the man for Lia. While it is true that he changes considerably from the beginning of the book to the end, it just doesn't feel organic to me. It also leaves me questioning how exactly he gets there, beyond lusting after Lia. Because, while he is surprised at how much he likes certain activities (spending time at the senior center, being with Trevor at the animal shelter), Brand just fails to really show how much he likes and then loves Lia herself.
Lia has been a bit of a doormat throughout the series. She wants to be a mother and caregiver; it's in her nature. So she ends up taking care of the entire town and they all use her abominably, even Brand. In fact, he trades on her need to nurture to effectively force himself on her (not in a rape-y way, but effectively forcing her to spend time with him). Lia needs a backbone ASAP. While it is true that when her back is against the wall, she finds hers, but it takes that much pressure to make her do it, time and again.
But what really got me and made this book less than enjoyable was the last third of the book. I didn't like how long it took Brand to actually admit anything to himself about how he felt about Lia and (view spoiler). Also, Lia is far too forgiving and Brand doesn't grovel nearly enough for all the garbage he foisted on her.
The epilogue was nice, I guess, but I wanted more in the book.
4 stars, another great book in this series, I really enjoyed and was captured by the storyline. The chemistry was fantastic and who doesn’t love it when a Hero has to redeem himself! Loved Lia. Really enjoyed this book.
I really enjoyed this book. I have to say it's a bit of a surprise with how much I enjoyed it based off the Hero. I am not a fan of jerk heroes. I don't like it when they are mean or mistreat the heroine.
When they are, that usually means I end up not liking the book, hence my surprise.
There just must be something about this authors writing. If Sam wasn't such a jerk, this book would have been a five star read for me. I even find myself wanting to give excuses for his behavior, but I will refrain. You should know going in that he's just an ass.
I should probably state why I feel that way about Sam. Well, he's the playboy hero who is allergic to commitment. He doesn't believe in marriage or even staying with one person for a length of time. He feels this is ok because he always lets his conquest know the deal. If they fall in love with him, it's their fault and he won't be nice about getting them out of his life. Classy. To me he just came off very arrogant, rude and selfish. And yet....man is this killing me to say it, but I still liked him and wanted him with Lia. Man, did that make me cringe but it's true.
Lets talk about something nice. Like Lia. I loved her. A character like her can borderline on being annoying but I never thought that of her. Again, I'll give kudos to the author for this. Lia was very prim and proper. A throw back to the 50's house wife and I loved that about her. She seemed genuine and I genuinely loved her character.
I didn't like that every guy she tried to date was a total loser. I think Sam deserved to feel threatened with a real guy that could take her from him. I'm not sure whey the hero always have beautiful women chasing them but the heroine's have the lowest of losers.
Final thoughts. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Just go in knowing that Sam is a jerk. ARC provided by NetGalley.
Sam Brand does close personal protection (body guard). Lia is a very kind woman who holds herself at a distance because of a broken engagement. Sam and Lia met at a wedding and sparks flew. Having sex at a wedding with a friend of her brother -in-law was supposed to be a one time thing with both going their separate ways. Sam gets hurt during a job and almost dies. He comes to his brother in law 's empty house to recuperate and runs into Lia again. He still wants her but doesn't want a relationship. She wants a relationship, but agrees to a fling until she meets Mr. Right. In the meantime, she is helping him out with care until he can care for himself. The fling turns into something more for Lia and knows she has to stop seeing him. Sam knows that he can't let her go. It's a HEA and a great story. I loved it. I received this book from Net Galley and Montlake Romance for a honest review and no compensation otherwise.
I always enjoy Natasha Ander’s novels! Having read all of the prior installments in the Alpha Men series I was so excited to finally get Dahlia (Lia) and Sam’s book!
Lia and Sam had a very unexpected, very steamy and very quick hook-up. Being that random hook-ups are so unlike Lia, she assumed that she would put that fling out of her mind and close that chapter in her life. But as fate would have it the two are thrown back together when Sam gets injured on the job and Lia is kind enough to offer him help getting back on his feet. It was at that point that I was completely hooked and couldn’t wait to see what Natasha Anders had in mind for they two!!!!
Lia and Sam had immediate chemistry! I found Lia so lovable, generous and sweet, but I initially thought Sam was kind of jerky lol! Ms. Anders did a fantastic job with bringing me around and eventually making Sam on of my favorites from this series! I also thought Natasha Anders did a great job organically developing Sam and Lia’s relationship/friendship. I devoured this 4.5 star book and now I’m sad I read it so fast- I didn’t want it to end!
