A college girl who is not from the rich side of the tracks is best friends with the rich girl from the rich side of the tracks. When times get rough for her she chooses to make her own way rather than ask for help from those who have the means to help her. For Lacey this is a matter of pride. She didn’t want to be talked about, be that girl who only uses her friends for what they can offer her, and she didn’t want to be looked down on. I respected that. I loved that she took a very difficult route, keeping her life private, and worked to be self-reliant.
Tara Brown wrote a book that could have gone many ways. The characters could have been selfish, conceited, and no fun yet she made them open to accepting those not of the same stature of them, welcoming to others, and always looking for a good time even though most of them had jobs. The majority of the characters were well off but instead of that being a bad thing they came together to support Lacey, support her family, and support their community.
The relationship of Jordan and Lacey was perfect. They came together in a time when they both had a lot going on and tried to keep their personal lives separate from each other. When the time came for them to be honest with each other they listened, accepted, and made the amends with each other all the while opening their hearts and falling in love. I loved that while they came from two different worlds they opened their hearts and understood that their two worlds could come together and happiness could be found.
I'm quite a new reader of Tara Brown so really only had the blurb to work from. I imagined this was going to be some light, frothy college romance full of crazy set ups and misunderstanding.
What I actually got was a story of considerably more depth and heart. This isn't merely a romance, it delves into who you are as a person and who you want to be.
I admired Lacey's resilience and tenacity in finding a novel way of getting her college tuition money.
I need to say that Lacey was wayyy too good for Jordan, who I wished had been stronger in the beginning. Luckily, I ended up appreciating his difficult road and how he became the man worthy of Lacey.
All in all, a good read.
This is twenty-somethings with the final summer before there last year in college. Basically, it a lot about economics and how it impacts the characters lives. Lacey is middle class but her friends are upper class. When her brother gets sick things are about to change for everyone. The romantic part was actually in the background and let the main story flow. Its a feel good book and I would suggest reading it. There are a lot of twist and turns.
This was the first novel I had read by this author but it will not be my last. I really enjoyed this novel. Once I started reading I did not want to stop. I loved the main character Lacey. She deals with all that life is throwing at her and just keeps on going. I loved the chemistry between the characters. I loved the dialogue and the banter. There were some laugh out loud moments for me. I can't wait to see what is next in the series. Loved it!
DNF at 49%.
Lacey Winters is the poor girl who hangs out with the uber-rich kids (can anyone say Gossip Girl?). When her little brother is diagnosed with cancer her college tuition fund is earmarked for his treatment and she needs to find a way to earn more money, over and above what she gets interning for her BFF's father. So she cooks up a great scheme to test girls' boyfriends anonymously.
Jordan Somersby is the archetypal poor little rich boy, bullied by his father into 'dating' the daughter of a client in an attempt to create some kind of dynastic merger he meets Lacey at a party on a yacht, she has no idea who he is and they really connect, until she discovers he is yet another spoilt, entitled rich boy with a girlfriend trying to score on the side.
I have to admit part of the blame for this is on me, I just saw Tara Brown was the author and auto-requested without reading the blurb carefully. My tolerance for YA/NA novels decreases year by year, I find them irritating and banal and full of unpleasant characters. Sadly, this was no exception. Lacey's BFF Marcia was vacuous, ignorant and obnoxious. The talk was all about parties and clothes and hair. The girls routinely call each other names as terms of endearment. Jordan seemed to be weak-willed and a bit of a personality vacuum.
By nearly half-way through the book the plot had yet to actually develop and I lost patience. I'm sorry because I loved Tara Brown's Single Lady Spy novels, but obviously her NA/YA books are not for me.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Unfortunately I was unable to finish this book. The characters were so over the top and while she tried to make the main character seem down to earth, she’d go off on little tangents about all the things her friendship with the rich and famous could afford her that just left a bad taste in my mouth. I couldn’t like these characters.
What a fun read! I laughed so hard at a few scenes, it was great!
This was my first book by Tara Brown and it won't be the last.
Jordan and Lacey's story wasn't an easy ride, but it definitely was a satisfying one. There was enough drama to keep me invested in the story without the usual "cheesiness" you find with other romances. It was a great balance of relationship drama and storyline.
This was my first book by Tara and I have to wonder where she’s been hiding! I was engrossed from beginning to end. Everything about this book drew me in and I didn’t want it to end. I was captivated! Thoroughly enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.
Entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
❝She might have been the ice queen, but she was slowly melting my heart.❞
This is my second time reading Tara Brown, and I knew after just a few pages that she was going to keep me there, flipping the pages like a madwoman.
In He Loves You Not, we are back to the life of the rich and privileged in the Serendipity series. Lacey, our heroine, is considered one of them but she's far from that. It is in this circle where she meets Jordan, he claims not to be like the rest of them, but Lacey has been burned by one of them before, so she's not buying it.
Jordan and Lacey were super entertaining to read, and although I had a hard time warming up to Lacey—I went from wanting to slap her, to wanting to hug her—I ended up having a great time while reading their slow burn romance.
What I loved the most of the two books that I have read by Tara Brown is how appealing her secondary characters are, and this time was no different. Monty, Martin, Hennie, even Steph, LOL, I loved them all! They played an important role in the story, and I wouldn't change a thing about them.
He Loves You Not is a light, sometimes funny, and completely engaging story in which a hard-working girl challenges a trust fund baby to break the chains and become what he wants to be, all this while growing up and falling in love!
This is book 2 in the Serendipity series but can be read as a standalone.
What a delicious morsel of a book. I simply devoured this book in one sitting.
Lacey is not a rich girl even though her best friends are from the upper crust. She fits in fine with that group and feels as though she belongs. After a pretty heinous break up from a rich guy, Lacey swears off dating anyone from that circle.
Jordan feels like a fraud and an outsider. He hates his upbringing and the responsibility that comes with money and his name. He wishes he could be down to earth and not have to live up to his family name.
When these two first meet, the chemistry is palpable. You can feel the sparks between them, but Lacey isn’t easily swayed and she will not put up with Jordan’s antics.
After Lacey receives some devasting news, she realizes how much a bind she is in. She needs to make cash and make it quick. With the help of her lovable brother and her work friend they start an anonymous app that checks if your significant other is cheating on you. Lacey soon finds herself in very precarious situations and doing this that she herself finds morally wrong. Somehow, Jordan and Lacey seem to always find themselves around one another and the sparks are becoming overwhelming.
I loved the character development, especially of the secondary characters. I thought the writing was excellent and was easy to follow, with a clear beginning, middle and end. The flow of the story was a perfect slow burnish love between Lacey and Jordan. This story gives off definite “Gossip Girl” vibes and it was a quick and refreshing read.
Tara Brown once again dives into the world of the rich and privileged in the second of the Serendipity series. He Loves You Not packs more of an emotional edge by focusing on a young woman who rises above adversity while rubbing shoulders with people that view her as 'other' because she's not from an influential family.
Lacey loses her tuition funds to her brother's unexpected medical expenses. Raised to be independent, she devises a way to get the money she needs. Her ingenious idea to anonymously test the fidelity of someone's significant other brings in the cash, but when she's forced to test Jordan Somersby things get a little dicey. Jordan is also stuck in a pickle caused by his money hungry father. He's forced to date a girl he doesn't know and can't turn his back on his family without causing a big rift. Lacey and Jordan have very different ways of handling their challenges, thanks to their upbringing, but somehow they meet in the middle. While their problems and frustrations connect them, and sometimes divides them, I was very curious about how this story would play out. The plot had the potential to go round and round in circles unless something drastic brought it together, and Tara Brown does drastic with style!
He Loves You Not seriously gives off Gossip Girl vibes, but it's not all backstabbing and scandal. There are sincere friendships in the novel that I kept waiting to see blowup, but I'm happy that it's not taken to that level. If you loved the drama and romance of Fling Club, you'll be even happier with He Loves You Not!

Another amazing book by Tara Brown! She hooks you in and has you mentally screaming “I want more.” I couldn’t put this book down. I loved her first book in the series and instantly stalked for this book. I’m so glad I was able to read it. It’s the perfect romance, hot and steamy, and nothing less than what’s expected from Tara!!!
When I read the blurb for He Loves You Not by Tara Brown I was curious. A woman looking to make extra money starts a fidelity business. Yes, you read that right. What is a fidelity business you ask? Well it means she tests your boyfriends to ensure they are being faithful.
Lacey Winters wants to help her family and be able to go to school. She is already working one job but needs more to be able to follow her dreams. Hence her fidelity business. Seems easy enough, right? Enter Jordan Somersby. A sexy and charming trust-fund playboy, but is everything as it seems?
I loved Lacey. She was easy going, funny and hard working. Her friends may be wealthy, but she needs to work for her dreams. When she meets Jordan, sparks fly. But things change when she is hired to see if he is a cheater. Can they fight the strong chemistry they feel?
He Loves You Not by Tara Brown was a fun read. Jordan and Lacey had a strong connection and great interactions but had a lot to work through. Charming read with characters I liked and a unique story.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Skyscape for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is sooo much better than the first book in this series and I loved that one too.
Lacey born in a middle class family but attends an elite school and is pretty much accepted by those in her circle. I was actually happy about this because there are so many stories about awful, rich, mean girls. Lacey’s family has a tragedy happen and she needs to come into money fast. Not wanting to ask her friends for help she decides to open a business to find cheating boyfriends for pay.
Jordan is one of the elite. His has to live up to family expectations and is forced to “date” who his family wants him to in order to align families. He meets Lacey and wants to pursue her but is not able to because of his pretend girlfriend. He finds the ad for the company that Lacey runs and decides to set himself up as a cheater to get out of his fake relationship. Of course there is trouble written all over this plan.
This book kept me interested and wanting more. I loved the characters and the story line. It’s a book that has you rooting for the main characters to fall in love. I loved that Lacey seemed real and Jordan was willing to give up everything for her. Awesome read.
This is the second book in the serendipity series and can be read as a standalone since the author explains things so that you will not be lost. So we have Lacey whose family is middle class but she and her brother attend school with the rich and so the life that she knows is a little different. Her best friend is uber rich (Marcia) and Lacey tends to work for her father during the summer but with the knowledge that he is grooming her to take over company since he sees her as another daughter. She has not had a serious relationship in two years since her dirt bag of a boyfriend was a cheater and now she is wary but is determined to never go out with another rich guy, she knows that she is good enough for sex but not to meet their family. Jordan is rich and his father has decided to use him to get his business more money and wants Jordan to be involved in a fake relationship, he doesn't want to but agrees because he can't seem to not do things for his family. But unfortunately he meet Lacey and they are both attracted to each other which is the worst possible time. Now the issue, you need to read to find out! We have laughter and sadness and hope now I am waiting for the next one.
Rating 5/5
WOW! I LOVED THIS! The plot was so feisty and mischievous that I was constantly laughing out loud! And the sexiness of this -- *fans self* -- oh my! Lacey and Jordan were made for each other! I couldn't put this down and need more now! I definitely recommend this!
This one took me over a week to read. I’m so sorry, I just could not get into it. I started skimming because after awhile I just lost interest in the whole storyline. I was just not feeling Lacey and Jordan at all.
Thank you Skyscape and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After finished reading this book, it felt like I'd just watched a whole season of Gossip Girl. The characters are the rich and famous people from the Upper East Side plus a middle-class family from Brooklyn... it's automatic.
The story is about Lacey Winters, she lives in Brooklyn, her friends are next level rich, but she’s not. And even though she likes them, she knows their lives has always been different.
Before her last year of college begins, Lacey discovers her younger brother, Martin, has cancer and that their parents need to use her tuition money to pay for his surgery and treatment. So she needs to make money fast by the end of the summer, while working as a full time intern. She has this idea of hitting on guys for money to prove to their girlfriends if they are cheaters or not, but it all gets messy when one of her clientes is Jordan Somersby. Only the guy is only dating some rich girl because his dad obligated him to.
Lacey and Jordan hit it off after they first met at some party, but he is one of the wealthy guys and she doesn’t trust them anymore, not after her cheating ex boyfriend.
I liked most characters. Lacey had good intentions from the start. Jordan was really nice and sweet. I’ve enjoyed the book, it was a little long but a fun and light read. 4/5
I almost gave up on this book. It was close. But I'm glad I stuck with it. This book got so much better, it's just slower to start.
What I loved: This book didn't really go at all like I thought it was going to go. This is why I'm glad I just stuck with it.
What I liked: It wasn't just a light romance, it had some heavier undercurrents, that was nice!
What I hated: SPOILERS! I can't tell you what I hated but it was definitely needed to move the plot forward.
Overall, this isn't your typical romance novel. This has some heavier issues mixed in with the light romance.
