So this is going to be one of those reviews that are really hard to write, but let's try.
After finished reading Even Money, I kid you not, I was desperate to read Double Down, that ending left me breathless so the moment it hit my kindle I dived into it. Unfortunately for me, it was not what I was expecting.
The intensity from the first book got lost somewhere between Louisiana and Las Vegas, meaning that I didn't get that heart-pounding feeling I got while reading Even Money. This book felt rushed, therefore unfinished. Sorry, but I didn't get the HEA vibes with this couple. There were a lot of missing points here, and there was some particular scene where I was like ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? THAT EASY?. After that, I knew right away to where the author was going, and let's say I was not happy. The thing was a little bit predictable.
It's hard to keep a reader focus on the main couple when the author delivers another character that totally steals the show. Laurent, baby, I will go to church with you. He needs his own book. All that cajun twang had me salivating for more!
Three days later, and I'm still in shock. I can't believe I went from I need the next book like I need the air I breathe, to WTF is going on here, and why is not Laurent the hero? Gawd, I'm frustrated.
Putting aside my ranty review, I have to say that Alessandra Torre's writing was in a way, captivating. But sadly, Double Down didn’t hook me in like I had hoped but that does not mean it won't hook YOU, so read it and let's talk about it later.
This is the second and I think last book of Dario and Bell, it was ok the big conflict in book one ends really quick so I was wondering where she was going with the story?! Like I said it was good, worth reading just not like to die for great!!! Lol but it's a nice moving story alot of action, intense moments, kinda low steam, but an ok read! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
3.5 “Love me through the cracks.” Stars
I enjoyed this duet. I enjoyed book one, Even Money. I really enjoyed the suspense and side characters in Double Down that much more. I feel like Dario and Bell’s relationship was able to shine a bit more in this book. It was less sexy forbidden and more passionate and emotional. It was suspenseful, and wrapped up this tumultuous love story with a nice little bow. However, the bow may have been a little too bright pink for my taste, and some of the ends a little loose. I enjoyed the entire story, but did feel the ending wasn’t what I was expecting. It’d be nice to have an extended epilogue with some wrap ups for some of the side characters, and one major loose end. Other than that it was good. The ending wasn’t terrible... and I wouldn’t let it dissuade you from reading this book. I just want MORE. Do you think begging would work with this author?
All in all a great duet. If you’re looking for forbidden romance and suspense. THIS is an excellent read. It reads sort of like watching a sitcom. Layers slowly peeled back through the chapters and POV’s.
Great conclusion to this duology! The best thing about this book was that even though the male hero was alpha, he listened to his partner and her input was important to him. She was no pushover, and this made the give and take of these characters fantastic! Highly recommend!
This book can only be read after reading Even Money (All in Duet #1).
After the cliffy from Even Money, I wanted to toss my kindle! Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long to get the conclusion. Picking up right where we left off, let the fun begin!!
I had no idea how this book would pan out. With the evil father, the possibilities were endless.
However, I felt the story after the first major event was pretty predictable. I figured it out and sailed right through reading without any surprises.
We are left with a pretty open book. An ending, yes… But one that could possibly bring us more sometime down the road.
One character that stood out to me was Laurent. Would enjoy reading more about his background and where he is now. His sister though, she scared me! LOL.
All in all, the duet was a good read.
Alessandra is a master at writing engrossing romantic suspense and here too in the conclusion of the Duet, she mesmerizes you with a riveting read. The book has all the ingredients to make a fine erotic dish with splashes of intrigue, hot boiling sex, sizzling passion and heart tugging sweet emotions. Throw in some murders and voila...you have a perfectly embellished book.
It starts where EVEN MONEY left off, on a cliffy. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how Dario will be able to explain what he said in the end. But Alessandra turns the story on a dime and the trajectory this part of the story takes, just throws everything up in the air. The odds stack against Dario & Bell, yet they dig in their heels and persist, hold hands and hold out, I believe that's what the title means.
I just loved reading Robert Hawk going through a gamut of emotions. Sarcasm to smugness to shock to anger to rage to denial to disbelief and then fury. Just desserts and all !!
He's such a powerful man rendered helpless
A close friend of the governor and a major contributor to his re-election fund. Hell, Hawk had sponsored the police department’s Christmas dinner this year, in addition to his generous annual scholarship program for law enforcement children.
This book also brings to light the depth of Dario and Bell's relationship. What started as intense attraction morphs into true love and as is with all true loves their bonds are tested continuously. They've everything thrown at them. There's cops, there's FBI, there's Robert, there's their families, their friends, and a person out to kill them. All this and they find time to have scorching hot sex !
A page turner no doubt and improbable, fast paced read. Once you start you won't be able to walk away till you hit THE END.
I was so excited to read this highly anticipated conclusion to Even Money, that cliff hanger was brutal! This picks up exactly where we were left anxiously waiting on that cliff…
Talk about a monumental mind fuck, for Bell and Dario. It was also tragically sad too. Dario has spent so many years protecting the life he has with Gwen and she means everything to him. Together they have been able to stay under the radar of her crazy, evil dad. It only took one moment in time to change everything.
Bell has no idea what the fuck is going on, one moment she was falling in love with this incredibly all consuming man and now she has been plucked from the life she knows to one she doesn’t understand or recognise.
Dario is a man on a mission and he means to see it through, no matter the cost. Protecting the people he loves is important to him and when something threatens them he will stop at nothing to get revenge.
Just like the previous book, this is a story filled with danger and a few WTF moments that kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. I would have liked there to have been more steamy moments and the Robert Hawk storyline seemed to fall a bit flat for me which left me wondering if there was more to come sometime in the future perhaps? Despite all that, I loved this thrilling conclusion to the All In series.
Final Score - 4.5 Stars!
I love reading book series and I have to admit, I was a little nervous about what possible direction this book could go after reading the first. It wasn't a sense of disappointment that had me in fear, but rather that after the events of the last book, Bell and Dario wouldn't get their HEA. Needless to say, I worried for naught! It was just the journey to get there that left me reeling with all the twists and turns.
Once again, Ms. Torre's writing style sucked me in and I remained so until the climatic end.
She has simple outdone herself! The pace, the engagement, the drama ... had me on the edge of my seat. And as always, the sex scenes left me panting.
I was saddened that secondary characters such as Rick, Lance, and Meredith weren't around as much - but after I finished the book I understood why they took a significant back seat to the main character focus. I do hope we see a spin off series with these characters as I feel that there is story for them to be written (*hint, HINT). The introduction of a new character - Laurent - left me intrigued. I wanted more a backstory to him and his exact relationship with Dario. Hopefully, he'll be considered as well for a spin-off book?
The chemistry between Bell and Dario - whoa! A definite page turner and pant inducer! Their devotion towards each other in the face of the events from the last book just solidified for me that this couple just can't be stopped. I knew this book was going to be great and I was not disappointed!
Now, can we talk about those spin-off books?
The conclusion to Dario and Bell's love story is filled with angst, murder, suspense and longing. Dario's alpha personality is romantic and frustrating. Double down is just as fast-paced as Easy Money, but there is more mystery and suspense. The total package is an engaging story that will keep you guessing until the end.
As a HUGE fan of Alessandra Torres´ books, it was a great honor for me to receive this ARC from netgalley. Thanks a lot.
This book is the second one in the All In Duet, and it starts right after the end of the first book.
With Bella Running away form Vegas because of Gwen´s murder.
I loved how Dario think of Bell, even through all the hell he was going through with Gwen´s murder, his prison and everything else after.
He´s first priority was always Bell, and that´s made me feel for him even more.
I loved how he never backed down, even when everybody was judging them because of their relationship. And how he never let Bell feels like she´s the other one. She´s his top priority and he makes her feel all his love for her.
It was worthy of the waiting
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
Double Down is the continuation of Even Money. If you've not read Even Money you shouldn't continue to read this review.
Even Money ends on a cliffhanger and we pick right up where it left off in Double Down. At this point Dario has pieced together someone meant to kill Bell instead of Gwen. So he has Bell whisked right out of town to help keep her safe.
Showing his cards to his father-in-law might not have been the best decision that came next though. That man is psycho! Now here's where I would have loved to have had more information on Gwen's dad...just to know how he got to be so psychotic. Seriously - the things that man did to "mold" women to his liking doesn't come from just sitting around watching chips fall at a casino.
The sad thing is Gwen's father never gets to learn about her marriage with Dario to see how wrong he was in his thinking. Sometimes the getting even isn't in the retaliation it's in the rational explanation of how things really work. Though the puppet in this "game" Gwen's dad was playing doesn't get to hear it either - which makes her all the more dangerous since she's on the loose.
I won't spoil this book for you because there's so much in here to read and get caught up on. If you like Romantic Suspense novels this duet should be added to your reading list right away. Alessandra Torre has created an adventure for two love birds that if they survive this they can survive anything...and I mean anything!
*Double Down begins where Even Money left off (with a massive cliffhanger!) This is the conclusion of the All In Duet and should only be read after completing Even Money.*
Bell Hartley and Dario Capece's complicated relationship has taken a turn for the impossible. With someone out there wishing them harm, and their lives as they know them beginning to unravel, they will have to lean on each other to get them through it all. But, even the most solid of connections may sever in the face of an unknown danger that they have no idea they need to fight...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really enjoyed the All In Duet, and in this book we are thrown into what happens immediately after the cliffy in Even Money. Questions are answered, yet everything is about to get a whole lot worse than Bell and Dario had ever thought possible...
While I loved book #1, in the conclusion of the duet there was not a lot of excitement in Bell and Dario's relationship itself. This book focused mostly on tying up loose ends and the outlying dangers that still threaten Bell and Dario, and their life together.
The All In Duet is overflowing with suspense, hot sex and a fast paced unconventional love story that you will not want to miss...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Double down - to strengthen one's commitment to a particular strategy or course of action, typically one that is potentially risky
Double Down begins right where Even Money left us. Bell in her suite, Dario mourning over the loss of Gwen and practically forcing Bell out of the suite and Vegas.
Bell ends up back in Dario's home state of Louisiana and we are introduced to Laurent. I absolutely was intrigued by him, I want to know more of his story (because I'm sure he has a great one). As much as a dislike Robert Hawk, I did enjoy reading things from his point of view and from Claudia's. It was nice to get into their mindset at times.
This book started out fast paced and towards the end did kind of slow down a little, but it was nice to see some happiness and signs of a drama and stress free relationship between Bell and Dario. Of course, that was rather short lived. Watching Bell and Dario's relationship continue to grow was sweet. They are both so broken, but despite that overcome a lot and love each other unconditionally.
"Just love me through the cracks."
I loved that we got some more of Meredith, Rick and Lance. I loved the interactions between Rick, Lance and Dario and I wish there was more of that.
I was hooked and couldn't put the book down, however, I felt that there were still some unanswered questions at the end. Maybe, that means the story of Bell, Dario, their friends and their enemies will continue in the future.
Just like Vegas, this story of full of excitement. Murder, kidnapping, explosions and steamy sex scenes. It will have you on the edge of your seat, it may make you shed a tear and it will make you smile.
This duet has been the best of the best surprises of the summer. It's soul quenching, action packed love story that holds the reader hostage. I bemoaned having to put it down for even a minute. The story picks up right where Even Money left off and takes us on a wild ride while Dario and Bell try to untangle the mess that their loves has wrought.
Bell and Dario are soul mates just finding each other and this connection puts a lot of things in motion. But it's undeniable and there is nothing neither could have done to stop it
"He broke away and whispered I love you in the moment before he reclaimed my mouth. He dominated and healed, reassured me and begged. In that kiss, a part of us broke apart and then fused back together."
There's plenty for them to feel guilt over and if they didn't, they wouldn't be great characters. I so enjoyed being in Bell's head and she anguishes over what she knows are Dario's conflicting feelings and her reactions to the truth of her life.
There's a great twist in the plot as Claudia steps to the forefront. While were privy the madness driving our antagonist, it wretches up the anxiety of what's about to come. Torre does not disappoint as this is well paced and packed with the sexy and the unexpected. This duet should not be missed!
What a fantastic conclusion to this duet. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I devoured this book within a few hours. I truly enjoyed it as much as I did the first book which is a must read story because the follow-up does not disappoint. I absolutely loved Bell and Dario. This is a story filled with steamy scenes, suspense and twists that readers won't see coming. I love that this story was unpredictable. It's the perfect duet for readers looking for a story with a lot of suspense, great characters, steamy scenes and a happy ending.
Double Down is exactly what I expect from a sequel!!! Sequels to books can some times be a disappointment or just not live up to the first book that is released, but that is NOT the case with Double Down. This book was just as jaw dropping and intriguing as Even Money (Book 1).
Double Down picks up right where Even Money ended. But as with Even Money, I can’t really go into details of the storyline in Double Down either. This is a duet that you need to go into blind. I will say this any thoughts or questions that book 1 left you with are answered in this book. You will not be able to guess what is going to happen….this story continues to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Double Down takes a different look at Bell and Dario’s relationship. In Even Money we got the build up to their bond. But in this book we get what happens after that cliffhanger in book 1. This book shows how they navigate their crazy words. I found that Bell and Dario were still lovable characters and I was rooting for them even more in this book. I feel that this book took a little darker turn than book 1. You’ll understand once you read this story. Nothing is too dark that it would make you uncomfortable to read.
Alessandra Torre continues to blow my mind with her amazing stories and characters. This book was no different. I was swept up in the story and characters lives. As with book 1, this story had my heart racing all the way until the end. The pace and flow of the story was perfect!!! I would say this is a fairly quick read because I devoured in less than a day, but that was because once I started I didn’t put it down.
I would 100% recommend this book/duet to all readers!!! This is a MUST READ and will sit at the top of my Best of 2018 list. 1-click this book as soon as it releases, you won’t be sorry!!!!
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.
This cover was pretty artsy, and love the title innuendos. Again though, the author is what drew me and part one was amazing folks. This book in my opinion was pretty great despite such a harrowing cliff hanger in part one. I was not prepared for the loose ends in this one though. New characters emerge and some slide into the unknown for now. The loose ends make it seem like they're will be a book three but it's hard to tell. The book was seriously engaging enough that I didn't want to put it down, as a series I'd definitely rate it four stars of entertainment. Thanks for a great read!
Double Down, Alessandra Torre
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Erotica, romance
Having just finished book one I dived quickly into this. The last ended on a real cliffhanger, but everything changes when we start book two.
I wondered how Alessandra was going to work things out to give Dario and Bell a HEA, and just couldn't see how they could avoid either the killer, Gwen's father or the police. Its one of those stories where We know they didn't do it but will that matter to the cops, will one of them get blamed for Gwen's death? After all we know her father has half the local force in his pay.
Its a roller-coaster follow-up, where I wanted to scream at them for what looked a bit like complacency at one point. We know the danger is still there, and Dario is still heavy on the security but Bell is chafing at the restrictions. It brings a question up for Bell, can she live like this, Dario is always going to be vulnerable now people know how he feels about Bell, and she isn't sure she can live with a constant shadow. Still, for them sex heals, sex talks, sex bridges all the gaps and there are plenty of Alessandra's trademark erotic encounters.
I love the way they talk through their feelings of guilt. Its understandable, we all think “if only I...” when things go wrong but neither of them are to blame, its the person with the gun that's wrong, not them, they aren't accountable for another's actions. Thankfully Dario has deep pockets as they need it in this book to avoid getting caught unfairly.
Fantastic read, had me wondering “how will/why don't they/what about....?” and struggling for answers. I was surprised, and then surprised again and of course like most of Alessandra's reads its not just a one plot book, but has a solid second strand that becomes joined to the first, and gave me lots to try to work out.
Fantastic ending but....I can't help wondering about that one loose end ;-)
Stars:Five, fantastic read, excitement, drama, hot and erotic encounters, great characters. Some breath stealing suspense, that left me floundering to work out just how it could all wrap up and give Dario and Bell a HEA. Thankfully they do get one.
4.5 stars
First and foremost, you need to read Even Money before reading Double Down as this is a duet and continues Dario and Bell’s story. And what a story it was! The minute Double Down by Alessandra hit my Kindle, I was both excited and terrified to see how it would all end. I could not wait to get it started.
Where the first book gave us Dario and Bell’s beginning and history, Double Down took us on a suspenseful journey with twists and turns. Every time I thought it would finally be okay, another surprise was thrown at us. This time the cost of being together may be more than either can bear. The stakes have never been higher.
Double Down started right where Even Money left off. From the first word to the last I was consumed. Dario and Bell fell and fell hard for each other. Their love was strong and unbreakable, even as their beginning was full of secrets and lies. But neither could imagine life without the other. Even so, neither could have foreseen the consequences their actions would unleash. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading.
In the first book, Dario was strong, powerful, sexy, possessive and very controlled. But after that ending, you see a Dario that knows pain and loss and we see a softer side. However, we also see a Dario that will move heaven and earth to protect Bell. Bell is consumed with guilt and jealously, but knows Dario is worth it all. She will stand by her man through everything. No matter the cost.
The All In Duet by Alessandra Torre is a story of love and consequences and I devoured it. Alessandra Torre is a writer that gives us stories with amazing characters that captivate reader and both Even Money and Double Down are must-reads. I loved reading both books and cannot recommend them any higher.
What a phenomenal story! It had just the right amount of everything to completely consume me for days. Alessandra Torre killed it with this duet!
I loved Dario. He was wealthy, powerful, dominant. When he turned his sights on Bell he became obsessed, protective and tender. When danger came Bell's way, Dario was fascinating to read about. These two have become one of my favorite couples.
I was worried at first how the ending of book one was going to effect this book but I think the author did a fantastic job of keeping us at the edge of our seats. It was just the right amount of dark, romance, suspense and a touch of horror. Everything that happens really makes these characters shine.
There are some really great side characters that I need to see get there own book. The fact that the author left a tiny little loose thread gives me hope that as an overall series, this isn't over. This is one of those storylines that just make you want more!
Double Down is a continuation of the All in Duet so you must read book 1 first. ARC provided by NetGalley.
