Let me tell you something: Echoes had me guessing everything. In a good way, I should add. You are just as out of the loop as the characters, not fully knowing the difference between what is real and what isn’t. And with how Alice Reeds has the story set up, you won’t know anything until the characters do. It’s a wonderful challenge, to try to guess what’s going to happen next. Echoes had me engaged in every chapter and eager for more.

In all honesty, this book surprised me. I was expecting more of the characters just wondering how they got on the island and how to get off; I was not expecting all those lovely twists and shocking turns. And I most certainly was not expecting that ending. I’m so glad I cam across this beauty because Echoes literally kept me guessing; it kept me thinking I had it all figured out when I really didn’t. That was the best surprise of all.

Fiona is the main protagonist, and she is quite the character. A champion kick boxer, you would think she’s naturally strong. And she is, physically. But like the rest of us, she has her demons, her flaws, her imperfections. She has the traits that make her utterly human. And seeing her growth through this story through this story really helped her fight those demons; she started to grow as a person, and that brought out the real her.

Then there’s Miles, the love interest, and the every-annoying, yet very attractive, guy Fiona is trapped with on the island. He’s the type of character that hides how he really feels and hides who he is, which is why Fiona and Miles are enemies at the beginning. But as the story progresses, his true self comes out and Fiona, along with the reader, starts to see that he’s really not all that bad.

I was overall very pleased with this book and thoroughly enjoyed Echoes! For anyone who enjoys Young Adult Thrillers, Echoes by Alice Reeds is definitely the book for you!

Echoes by Alice Reeds is a story told from the point of view of Fiona. Fiona is a student and a lightweight kickboxing champion. She’s a tough and smart girl with bright blue hair. Fiona wins an internship to Briola Tech in Berlin. This is something she didn’t expect to happen and she is thrilled to go on this trip. The only thing she isn’t excited about is that she is going with Miles. Miles is Mr. Popular, intelligent and his parents are very rich. Miles and Fiona have very different backgrounds and they don’t get along.

Fiona and Miles take a private plane to Berlin and this is where Fiona starts to question things.. Why are they in a private plane? Fiona and Miles fall asleep on the plane and when they open their eyes, the plane is crashing down. They are on a deserted island in the wreckage of the plane. But is the island really deserted? Where are they? Fiona and Miles never got to Berlin, or did they?

Fiona and Miles are trying to survive and they are trying to find a way to get of the island. They need each other and they get to know each other in a different way. Maybe they have more in common than they thought.

Echoes is a mysterious and exciting young adult thriller. I couldn’t put this book down and I just had to know what was going on. I’m not going to write too much about the story, because I don’t want to spoil it. There is a lot going on in this story. Trust no one and decide for yourself what is real and what is not.

I would recommend Echoes to everyone who enjoys a fast-paced mystery.

4 out of 5 stars.

echoes is like lost meets the bourne identity for teens. i should look up the deal notice on publisher's marketplace* and see if that's what it was pitched as. i don't want to give too much away of the plot, because it's trippy and confusing and also this two-person-play/love story between fiona and miles as they try to figure out what's happening and where they are.

like lost there are two separate timelines and both tell a compelling story and you wonder if and when they will ever intersect. and if you do finally figure out what's going on, do you know or is there going to be some new twist. it's well-established that i love lost, so this story was right up my alley. but if you don't like mind-bending, twisty stories you might want to skip this one, because echoes is all about the twists.

*it was pitched as lost meets the maze runner. i don't know the maze runner to know what that means, which is why i went with the bourne identity and i say that it still works.

**echoes will publish on august 7, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (entangled teen) in exchange for my honest review.

Echoes by Alice Reeds is a total and complete mind f*** in the best possible way. While the blurb reads like a YA horror story, this is an action packed thriller that will leave you guessing until the very end. Told in the POV of Fiona, the story jumps back and forth from chapter to chapter from the time they are in Berlin and when they are stranded on an island, but it's done so well and so fluently, it doesn't jerk you out of the story but rather fills you in on everything that they've gone through to merge the two together.

Let's jump back a step. Fiona Wolf is the current Florida State lightweight kickboxing champion, taught by her father that failure is not an option. Miles Echo is the bratty, wealthy, entitled popular guy at her school with a high IQ and fluent in several languages who she can not stand. So when they get stuck together having both garnered an internship to Berlin from a company called Briola, it's literal hell
since neither one can truly stand the other. Once they get to Berlin though, things aren't exactly as they seem and they must rely on one another if they're to make it out of this alive.

The island that they "later" end up on after their plane crashes is brimming with even more danger when a mysterious creature tries to make them lunch. Added to that is the fact that they aren't entirely
sure how they got on the island. And yeah, there is a reason why later is in quotes. There's just a plethora of paradoxes throughout that just made this book so good!! Added to that, the characters are deeper than what they first seem. Fiona, while strong physically, has been mentally abused for years by her father and Miles, while arrogant and pretentious, is more of a lost little boy after his brother’s death.

"Everything in the jungle looked like more of the same again and again, like someone had lazily designed a Minecraft biome where you'd get lost without a compass in two minutes flat."

So there is a reason I picked this particular quote. Minecraft is a world that you create and manipulate to the needs of the players and this is exactly what the book felt like. These two are players in a much larger game that they don't even realize. Everything around them is manipulated to make them think and react in a certain way. And well, as the title suggests, an echo isn't something real, but rather
a reflection of the original, or a manipulation of the original. As time passes, hazy and confused memories of Berlin begin to filter in and both begin to wonder what is real and what isn't. Investigating
the island brings even more dangers to light and relying on one another opens up new, reluctant feelings that neither one expected.

"At least I wasn't alone in this. Tom Hanks had Wilson; I had Miles. Hopefully he proves more helpful than a volleyball with a handprint on it."

I'm not going lie. I devoured this book from the first page to the last. I could not stop reading because every page was filled with questions and promises of more. This was sort of like Inception meets Lost with a bit of Cabin in the Woods and Hunger Games, and was reminiscent to a Christopher Pike or RL Stine book for me. There was a lot happening and I was engaged the entire time. I will admit, I
didn't need the romance between the two. Like, there's a time and place for kisses and I get that they are being thrown together, but I would have been just as happy that they turn into friends and maybe
decide pursue a relationship later on. I will say, since several reviewers also mention it, there is a cliffhanger but honestly, I saw it coming and, for me, it wasn't one of those that made me angry. If
you've ever had the pleasure of reading a Christopher Pike book, that's exactly what that ending felt like. I do hope there is a sequel but at this time, I don't know if there is or not. I would love to know more. There are still a lot of questions unanswered but I didn't finish the book unsatisfied but rather, I finished it going "I need to reread this. There are clues in this book" and it isn't until I reread it was that I saw things I had missed. I am so hoping this author continues to write more because I need more. I haven't enjoyed a YA mystery like this in quite a while. Well done.

I don't know how to write this review. Normally, I would say what this book is about, but everything in the book is a spoiler for something else in the book.
I couldn't put down this book. Every time I thought I was seeing where it was going, another plot twist was thrown in . The last 7 chapters had me glued to my chair. I have never wanted a book to end, but not end so bad in my life.
I am really hoping there is a followup book. There are still things I want to know the answer to.

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars!

I've mixed thoughts about this book. I liked it but I didn't loved it. The concept was interesting, but sometimes the story really confused me. It has a suspenseful and mysterious plot mixed with some typical YA cliches. I enjoyed the story, but It didn't excite me as much as I had hoped. The characters aren't my favorite, but they aren't too bad either. The whole book is about Fiona and Miles stranded on an island searching for answers and in the end we don't get any answers which is so frustrating. I actually thought it was a stand-alone novel, but the book concluded with an unresolved ending which means there's going to be another book.

Fiona and Miles are high school enemies, and they both come from different backgrounds. Fiona is a star lightweight kickboxing champion, and Miles is a rich kid with smart brain. When Fiona and Miles are selected for an internship with Briola Pharmacy in Germany, they aren't happy with the partnership but they couldn't lose this once in a life time opportunity either. They both aboard an expensive plane for their journey, and the next time they wake up to find themselves crash-landed and stranded on a deserted island, but they're not alone. Something dangerous lurks on the island hunting them. Fiona and Miles only option is to survive by putting aside their long time enmity towards each other and work together.  They've no memories about how did they ended up on the island, but they do suspect Briola Tech is somehow responsible for their current situation so they both searches for answers and each step forward reveals the mystery behind the forces that brought them there.

Fiona and Miles are your typical YA characters with parent issues, but i'm glad they're not boring. Fiona is a kickass kickboxer which was very refreshing to read in YA contemporaries. I like reading books with female protagonists who can kick ass not the damsel in distress types. The only thing that I didn't like about Fiona was, how she was so judgy about Miles at the beginning because of some silly incident when they were kids. She never gave him another chance. On the other hand, Miles has a smart brain, but he's also pretty fun and sweet. He doesn't have a muscle power like Fiona but together they make a strong team. The romance between Fiona and Miles was sweet, but it was also a little cliched. The secondary characters were okay-ish. They aren't memorable. No one stand out for me except for Fiona's homeless friend Joe who didn't played much part in this book.

The plot was interesting, but the execution of the story was a bit confusing and I was like "What the heck is happening?". It really took me some time for me to put everything together. The story moved in a fast pace. The mystery was good filled with some twists and turns. The mysterious Island was a nice setting, but the clues Fiona and Miles were searching for is actually inside their lost memories. No major secrets were revealed in this book which is somewhat disappointing, but we get some glimpses of what actually happened before they ended up in the island. The book was told by switching between Fiona and Miles's time in Berlin, and The Island.  It will be a little confusing to understand everything at first, but as the story progresses, it'll get easier. The author's writing style was simple. The book was written in Fiona's first person POV and I don't know why it doesn't have a Miles POV.

Overall, it was a good read but not my favorite! People who're new to this genre will definitely love this book. The book concluded with a cliffhanger and I might read the next book just to find out what happens next to our characters.

Man, the synopsis really didn’t do this book any justice, giving the reader the barest of bare-bones ideas of what Echoes is really about. Yes, there is a deserted island. Yes, Miles and Fiona are stuck on it, and yes, there is something else on the island. But the entire story is certainly much, much deeper and definitely much more sinister than the synopsis leads readers to believe.

The story bounces between the island and a city, but neither one really give any clues as to how and why Miles and Fiona find themselves on an island. Nothing is clear, except for the fact that nothing is clear. Slowly, they both start to piece together anything that can be labeled a clue or an idea of what’s going on, but even that doesn’t lend any clarity to their situation. Being stuck on a deserted island is hopeless enough, but having no clue as to the how’s or why’s is an entirely different thing, and certainly a situation that makes both Fiona and Miles feel as if they’re in a dark abyss with no hope of ever climbing out. Seriously.

Filled with conspiracies aplenty, Echoes was a surprisingly good read. I only say surprisingly because of the aforementioned tricksy synopsis that actually tells nothing of the book. And not only was this book so surprisingly good, it was so very, very confusing. Miles and Fiona had no idea what was happening and even more surprisingly, neither did the reader. Or at least I didn’t. Reeds takes readers here, there, everywhere and many parts of the story start to overlap, specifically information that characters have already learned about one another (or did they?!?). With so many twists and turns and no clear idea of what’s here or there, or anywhere, Echoes kept me guessing until the very end. And I’m still guessing even after turning the last page, and I feel like Alice Reeds has dragged me straight into the heart of this sinister conspiracy. Hopefully this is going to become a series because I desire some answers and clarity, please and thank you.

All told, Echoes was surprising on so many fronts, and I enjoyed every single confusing moment of it. Highly recommended and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Miles and Fiona because this story has left me feeling just as hopeless as they’re feeling.

I loved the back and forth banter between Fiona & Miles. They started off really despising each other but ended up being the only person the other could trust in the whole world.

This story takes the reader on a whirlwind of ups and downs and you are left wanting so much more. All I can say is that this better be a series because I need to see what happens with these characters from here.

I had zero problems with starting the book and continuing. It gripped my attention from the first chapter and kept me just as entertained the whole way through. There is a roller coaster of events and you never knew which direction you would be thrown in next or what may happen next. I really liked the dual direction the writer had taken with time/place. It is hard to explain but once you read the book, you can get a better understanding.

There is a love story that does blossom while reading but the book is not based on that alone which was lovely in itself. I really enjoyed this plot driven read and highly suggest it for any mystery/sci-fi fan!

First I want to thank netgalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book for my kindle. This book was ok , I felt like the characters didn’t have much depth or maybe I just couldn’t relate to them. This book reminded me of the movie cast away. Miles and Fiona are on there way to an intern ship in Berlin when there plane crashes on an island where they both survived the crash and now have to rely on each other to survive the only problem is there both enemies at school. The book bounces from the island story and back to before the plane crash and why they don’t get along. Maybe the book didn’t appeal to me because it’s a young adult book but I felt the writing was just ok. I actually preferred the story line off the island more. All and all it was ok I give it three stars.

I went into this book with pretty high hopes. The synopsis was intriguing, the reviews were stellar... yet it fell flat for me. The author’s writing just did not work for me. I could tell from the first page that this story might not be for me, but I pushed forward because I wanted to give this book a chance. Sadly, I never connected with the characters or the plot. I wasn’t invested in the story at all which definitely doesn’t make an ideal reading experience. However, that does not necessarily mean that you will feel the same as me.

This book has potential. It reads like a classic thriller movie. Honestly, it actually reminds me of a culmination of thriller movies I have seen. It’s full of twists, sketchy events, and sketchy people. Sadly, none of those elements were enough to save this book in my eyes.

While this book may not have been for me, it may be a good book for you! By no means do I dislike this book, I am simply indifferent.

I absolutely loved this story! It held my attention straight from the beginning. I was so struck by Fiona and Mile's banter and back and forth. This story left you gasping for more, spellbound and it had surprising moments. I was addicted from the get go and wanted more! I would like to thank Netgalley and Entangled for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I would like to thank the Netgalley website and Entzngled Publishing for this partnership.

I was immediately attracted by the cover, we see at night a night spot where the palm trees that prove that it is an island and the title echoes it looks like it explodes into a thousand pieces from where the glass debris around the title.

It all starts when Fiona and Miles wake up on a desert island. Two high school students who failed together without any memories of how they landed there. They will discover that they are not alone on this island.

A young adult book that I read in one go, I loved the concept of the story that was well written, addictive, captivating filled with suspense and twists. An author I discovered through this partnership and I can not wait to read another one of her books. I love his pen.

Echoes is about two teens, Fiona and Miles, who were chosen for a special internship in Berlin. However, they never make it there (or do they??? <-- serious question) and end up stranded on an island with no clue how they got there. Fiona is a lightweight kickboxing champion and Miles is a smart, rich guy, and they hate each other. Things start getting weird on the island, similar to the TV show Lost, and Fiona and Miles have to figure out how to get off the island while trying to piece together how they ended up there in the first place.

So, Echoes just wasn't for me. I normally stay away from YA contemporary/romance novels, and while this book is not considered to be in that genre, the characters felt that way. Both the characters were as stereotypical as they could possibly be, and the romance was stereotypical and corny. While I enjoyed the show Lost, I was also very angry with it for leaving me so confused when it ended. I feel the same way here. I have no idea what was supposed to be going on in this book. The ending left me confused and with a lot more questions than I started with, which I suppose would make sense if Reeds is planning to write a sequel or make this into a series.

I've read quite a few other YA thriller/mystery books, and enjoyed them, but this book just felt blah to me. The writing wasn't spectacular and had a lot of overused words, and the book dragged a lot through the middle chapters. I would recommend this book to the YA audience looking for more of a romance book with a touch of action/mystery.

“‘Solipsism says we can’t know anything beyond ourselves. Everything we experience could be an illusion. All we really know for sure is that we’–he tapped his forehead–'exist. Somehow. Somewhere. But the world outside of us?’”

I received a free e-ARC through NetGalley from the publishers at Entangled Publishing, LLC.

When Fiona wins an internship to Briola Tech in Berlin, it’s a dream come true. The only downfall is that she’s sharing the experience with her arch-nemesis, Miles, a swaggering rich boy who goes out of his way to humiliate her at school. They arrive in Berlin only to discover that there is no Briola Tech, and someone doesn’t want them to leave the city. In alternate chapters, Fiona and Miles never arrive in Germany at all; their plane has crashed on a desert island, leaving them stranded with little hope for rescue. What is Briola, and what do they really want with Fiona and Miles? More importantly, can she trust him when everyone they meet seems to be part of the conspiracy?

Interesting premise, wobbly execution. The book is well-paced between the two narratives that it’s telling, and when one gets slow, it’s able to switch to the next to keep things moving. Fiona and Miles face a number of challenges, both in Berlin and on the island, but after a while (particularly in the Berlin narrative) it grows repetitive. Paranoia and conspiracy aren’t sustainable vibes in the long term, and the longer the book went on, the less I cared about the answers. It was already well past my willingness to believe. (I was also having terrible Lost flashbacks, but that’s a different issue.) Toward the end of the novel, the Berlin timeline just… tapers off and never resurfaces, which is a problem for both the structure and the overall plot.

The writing isn’t bad; there are some issues with modifier phrases and an over-use of adverbs (simply, actually), but it’s not overly distracting. Occasionally, the dialogue is almost indistinguishable from the narrative and not quite believable for teenagers. Miles has a very pretentious way of ending his questions in “no?” that I’ve never heard another human use in actual speech. The book rests almost solely on those two characters, and half of them aren’t bad. I like Fiona. She’s smart, resourceful, and fully capable of defending herself. Her kickboxing champion angle is interesting, but the fight scenes are fast and poorly described, so I never got as good a sense of it as I wanted. Her development, particularly in the aspect of her fear of authority, is shaky, but I give it points for the attempt. Miles is utterly typical: rich, handsome, sure of himself and, for the most part, uninteresting. There’s a distinct thread of enemies-to-lovers romance, if that’s your thing.

The real problem is that it’s like reading two separate books (desert island fanfic au), and the biggest downfall is that the novel fails to bring them together in any satisfactory way. It’s not just that Echoes leaves off on a major cliffhanger; it’s that it makes no attempt to explain how two sets of events featuring the same characters have happened simultaneously. Given the tenuous explanations that are offered for other aspects of the plot, I’m not sure I trust a sequel to clear it up for me. It’s entertaining escapism, but I’m not planning to continue with the series.

Imagine getting a once in a life time internship with Briola Pharmacy, but your partner is your sworn enemy. You both hate each other and you already knows this is going to be the worst experience of your life. Now, imagine getting stranded on an Island after a plane crash and being trapped in Germany with everything to your name gone with the person you hate most. Welcome to Fiona and Mile's life.

The book has two settings, The Island and Berlin. They each have to do with each other, BUT one in each universe. They aren't this happened, then this happened. It's more like: On the Island they have brief memories of Berlin and in Berlin they have brief memories of the Island with out have never been to either location. It's a little confusing to explain but it really works for this story and if you read Echoes you will 100% understand what I am trying to explain in this paragraph.

In the Island chapters Fiona and Miles have crash landed on an island before having reached Berlin. Their pilot is dead and there is basically no hope but to survive until they can figure out a way off this mysterious island. The Island is tropical with Palm trees, beaches and caves. But what is stranger is a monster like brown bear that terrorizes the stranded duo. On exploring the Island they learn they are not alone as they previously thought, and are actually in an extreme amount of danger. Briola Pharmacy seems to have bigger plans for Fiona and Miles then just an internship.

In Berlin the crash landing never happened and they made it all the way to the foreign country safely. They are checked in to a beautifully expensive hotel where to their dismay they are forced to share the same hotel room and then picked up to head to Briola. The only thing is Briola isn't who they said they were and there is no sign of them in Berlin. With no phone service and no way to contact anyone back in the states by text or social media they duo is trapped and on a dangerous race for their lives.

From page one Echoes does not stop. The story sucks you in and suddenly you read the last page and you are desperately searching for more. I am extremely excited to see what else Reeds comes up with in this world because Echoes only touched the surface, as the reader I have tons of questions that I need answers too.

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Mind-blowingly amazing doesn’t even begin to cover Alice Reeds’ Echoes. This book is so indescribingly awesome that I am once again, left in a state of shock and disbelief! Fans of LOST will really get a kick out of this one, but like its counterpart be prepared for thousands of question and only a few answers at this time. Though that is me hoping upon hoping upon wishing every wish that there will be a sequel because omigosh I NEED MORE!

Fiona and Miles were never friends, in fact, you might say they were enemies of sort, nemeses, if you will. Yet when they are both selected to spend three weeks in Germany at an internship with a big company named Briola, Fiona decides to make the best of it. Fiona and Miles come from two very different worlds despite being at the same highly reputable high school. Fiona is a kickboxer from an average family while Miles is your typical rich boy with a sense of entitlement.

They will have to put their differences aside though when their trip goes disastrously wrong. We open with a plane crash onto a seemingly deserted island and half their plane is missing. Sound familiar? Yet theirs was a private jet, so they were the only passengers on it besides the pilot and flight attendant. And here’s where it gets a little like LOST in that we get a flashback to when they landed in Germany, only to find out there’s something very, very wrong with their internship. Like the fact that the company, Briola, doesn’t seem to exist whatsoever!

Oh yes, this is one of those novels that will keep you guessing at every turn and reading through the pages like running water! It’s more than just a page-turner, it’s a book that will suck you in and never let you go! Even after the last page, I am still in a whirlwind of mysterious and questions…the biggest one being IS THERE A SEQUEL?! Lol.

We get a little bit of back and forth for the majority of the novel. The time they spent in Germany, trying to figure out who exactly brought them here, to their time spent on the island…where there just happens to be a bear running about! Coincidence? *wink, wink* Though sadly, it’s not a polar bear!

This book was a serious jumble of mysterious and suspense! It was so intense and twisted that I ate up the pages in the short time that I spent reading it! Seriously, if I didn’t have to work, I would’ve stayed up all day and night reading this bad boy! It was the kind of read you easily fell into and never wanted to leave.

Fiona and Miles were excellent characters too. They were more than what they appeared to be and naturally, time spent on a deserted island can lead one another to learn more about the other. They had their differences, and yet similarities. How the appeared at school, wasn’t necessarily who they were afterwards. Both were very deep, and even though this is told solely from Fiona’s point of view, I felt like we got to know Miles on a deeper level too. They eventually grow closer and begin to work together in order to survive and find a way off the island. And naturally, a bit of romance is sparked between them. Honestly, all of us likely saw this coming by just the description of the book alone! That’s what being a reader will do to you! I will say that their romance was very sweet and had a decent buildup to it as well. We saw possible moments between them in the flashbacks too.

At a certain point, we leave behind the flashbacks and it seemed to do so at a pretty critical moment. Which is why I am desperate for a sequel. Things start to fall together, in the loosest sense and we get to delve a little deeper into the mystery that brought Fiona and Miles together. But the answers aren’t all there. And it seems to have brought up even more questions in the final moments of the book. Which, again, is why I NEED a sequel!!

By saying Echoes is the perfect read for fans of LOST, you know what you’re getting into! I want to warn you of that now. There’s a lot of mystery, a lot of questions, and so few answers. But that’s what drew me to LOST to begin with. The mystery and the puzzles. I will anxiously be rocking here in my corner as I await for more information about the future of this possible series. In the meantime, I would HIGHLY recommend reading this one if you love a seriously twisted and mysterious read!

I didn't love this book.  I gave it a chance primarily because it seemed like kind of an interesting idea and reminded me a little of Lost (more on that later).  I think that my two main gripes with book are that the main characters seem to be incredibly stereotypical and (as I've complained about in other mystery/suspense books) the twists oftentimes just came completely out of left field.  Were these twists bad?  Not necessarily, but it I do not think that they were mind-blowing enough to forgive the skip in logic it took to get to them.

To start, I did not find Fiona to be a very interesting character.  I felt that she was at times both incredibly stereotypical (not fitting in at a fancy high school, having tough relationships with her parents) and also entirely absurd.  The opening references to how many Instagram followers she and Miles had just seemed really strange to me.  Miles, on the other hand, is likable enough in terms of what he actually does in the story, but is so obviously misjudged by Fiona that for two thirds of the book every time he is talked about, it is hard not to roll your eyes that she is still hanging on to something taken out of context from their first interaction.

I found myself really enjoying the dual paths the book was taking between being in Berlin and on the Island that their plane crashed on.  There was a good balance between the two stories, even if at times it a got a bit confusing about how they were interacting with each other.  Back to my Lost point, them encountering a bear on the island was something that made me immediately think of the show.  This kind of took me out of the book which was picking up at this point, but is probably just a silly hang up for me.

I think that the twists in the book are overall interesting, and I wish they had been fleshed out more.  The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I hope there is a sequel to this book because a ton of things were left unanswered and if they were answered in a satisfying way I think I would have enjoyed this book much more.  The eventual relationship between Fiona and Miles is actually pretty interesting and well done once they get past the initial interactions.  If you are someone who likes mystery/suspense and/or teen romance you would probably really enjoy this book.  If not, I would suggest staying away.

Echoes by Alice Reeds is the type of book that when finished I had to pick my jaw back up off the floor and thought about throwing my Kindle. And as much as that sounds like I hated this one I really didn’t, it’s actually rather brilliant. Talk about a book that will mess with your mind…

I don’t want to say too much about Echoes as you can tell the blurb is really kind of cryptic as to what you are getting and that’s a good thing, it’s one that you want to go in fresh and let the story slowly unfold around you.

So what I will say… the opening chapter is Fiona and Miles on a plane that crashes and leaves them stranded on an unknown island. The second chapter takes a reader back to before they got on the plane and gives more into the how and why they are together. From then on it alternates the story here and there.

I know this book is not going to be for everyone but if you like a fast paced adventure with a bit of romance you may want to give it a try. The one thing that I see folks not liking is the ending, it’s a bit open ended to where you can see it either continuing or leaves a lot to your own imagination. I’d actually be fine either way as this one was one heck of a ride to get there as it messes with your mind more than a lot of psychological thrillers out there and I loved that so I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
