Echoes by Alice Reeds tells the story between two born rivals Miles and Fiona. They are paired together for an internship in Berlin. But things grow dire when they crash land with little to no hope of being rescued. While on the island they both soon learn that something diabolical is happening right under their noses.
The struggle to survive with little food, and dead bodies littering the ocean floors. Miles and Fiona have to work together to find a way home.
Echoes was a fast paced, on the edge of your seat thriller.
A must read.
This was a mind twister. I liked Fiona and Miles. They both have assumed things about the other and find out they were wrong while fighting to figure out why they are stranded on an island. The story flips back and forth between the island and Berlin. It is a bit confusing especially with the time line all screwy to them and the reader. I must admit I did not see the twist in the story but knew something wasn't right. Book ends with a cliffhanger. I will definitely be picking up the next.
I read "Echoes" in less than a day- what a page-turner! This YA suspense follows two teens (enemies from school) that are embarking on an internship with a biotech company together over the summer. Fiona is a blue-haired fighter- she has a bunch of titles in kickboxing where her dad is her coach, and a cruel one at that. She has hated Miles since she met him at her exclusive private school, where she is on scholarship, and he called her pathetic for not standing up to a teacher. Miles is everything she is not- rich and filled to the brim with privilege.
However, the internship doesn't go as smoothly as they would expect- their plane crashes on a remote island, and they are alone amidst certain and uncertain danger. However, in other chapters, they have arrived in Berlin but learned that they cannot trust anyone- and the company they are supposed to work for doesn't even exist. As we are left to wonder what is real and what is a dream, we also join Fiona and Miles on their fight for survival amidst constant struggles- in both situations.
This book quickly pulled me in, and I absolutely had so many questions that I was hoping to learn the answers to. My biggest complaint is the huge cliffhanger at the end- I am left with most all of my questions and hoping desperately for the next book to be released ASAP. This cryptic book has a cryptic ending, which I can only hope means there will be a second coming soon. Be prepared for a quite a mysterious thriller- and it's my favorite kind- one that is not even remotely easy to figure out. This book will keep you guessing until the end- and even beyond the end.
I really enjoyed this unique story, and I eagerly await the next installment! Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Hatchet meets Lost meets Maze Runner. Echos is a fast-paced thriller with a cryptic ending. I NEED to know what happens next! When does the movie come out?
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review Echos.

Whoa, this book.
Honestly, it felt like a mash-up of a whole bunch of pop culture tropes: Lost, Hunger Games, Divergent -- I felt a little piece of them all in this story. That said, the story is not a copycat of any one of those things - it just gave me serious vibes.
I was hooked immediately. I was so intrigued. Unfortunately -- then it sort of lost me. I felt like the storytelling could have used some tightening up. I got bogged down in some things that caused me to lose patience and attachment to the storyline. I also felt like the characters could have been fleshed out more. I didn't feel connected the way I wanted to. I felt like I was watching a fascinating story play out before me, but I was removed from it. It wasn't touching me. And it sometimes lost my interest completely.
I do think this will likely be a good fit for young adults. There's action, adventure, twists, turns, and half the time I didn't know what was real and what was not real. This one will mess with your head for sure, which makes for a fun read overall!
Echoes is so cryptic I'm still trying to work out the title. Trust nobody. Fear everything. This is a mystery suspense read which I couldn't put down.
Fiona is a special girl. She is the current Florida State lightweight kickboxing champion. She trains hard and dedicates her time to being the best. She knows her strengths but school work isn't one of them. She's an average student with a talent in sport.
Miles is Mr rich and popular. He's also intelligent, fluent in other languages and knows computer tech. These two on paper are opposites, but somehow they landed the same internship. A trip to Germany to work with Briola Bio Tech. This is a trip of a lifetime, but Miles and Fiona aren't friends. In fact they are more like enemies. They don't get along at school. They don't have the same friends and they are from completely different backgrounds. If only the company was the biggest problem with this trip.
Echoes is written from Fiona's point of view. Imagine this; your memory is a little clouded but you find yourself in a plane wreckage on a desert island with the one person you never thought you'd need anything from. Your memory is a little hazy and reality is a little unclear. Your task isn't easy in fact it's not even certain. Everything you think you know will be questioned. Trust nobody.
This book is beautifully crafted together with two stories. The first is the desert island the second is the what if. -They made it to Germany but the internship isn't what it advertised.
An echo is a sound caused by a reflection of sound waves. Echoes (this book) is a reflection of memories both present and alternate. As this novel unfolds the cracks begin to show. Maybe they went to Germany? Maybe the plane isn't what it seems? Maybe someone is messing with them?
Also while we are on the topic of echo it is also Miles surname (still trying to work out the title).
Fiona and Miles have a history but you know what they say about love and hate. It's a fine line and sometimes a misunderstanding can blur them. It seems fate is giving them a helping hand in the romance department even if the rest of their life is changing forever.
Echoes is a full length story but will leave you ready for the next adventure. Not all questions are answered, but I was happy with the ending. I liked this book so much, of course I want a sequel!
Echo's probably suited for the young adult audience + as it has some juicy action scenes and I'm not talking about romance.
5 stars out of 5.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I've joined the blog tour. My date 8th August. Happy reading.

Great book. Loved all of the plot twists and suspense. Very unique storyline and I'm sincerely hoping for a sequel!
Echoes was such a strange book with lots of twists.
Fiona and Miles are not similar, but they both got picked for an internship in Berlin. While they both go to the same school, they really don't like each other much. Fiona's family doesn't have a lot of money. She has a scholarship to their private school. She's a kickboxer with a father that pushes her way too hard. Miles has a lot of money and a dad who pretty much ignores him.
On the way to Berlin, their plane crashes and things just get really weird from there. The chapters in the beginning alternate between the island and Berlin. But how can that be since they crashed on the way? In Berlin, they find out that the company isn't where they say it is and they're being followed. No one will answer their phones and they don't have enough money to get home. On the island, the pilot is dead and they are alone. Except for a very angry bear.
Fiona and Miles must find a way to survive alone on an island while trying to figure out what happened to them. They find dead bodies and must find a way to stay alive.
This book has so many moments that have you questioning what is going on, what is real, and who can you trust. I can't get anymore into it without giving away hints. The ending is crazy and I really hope the author writes a sequel (there is none listed on Goodreads yet).
I gave this book 4 1/2 stars. It would have been a 5 star read, but there were a few spots that kind of dragged. But the rest of the book was very hard to put down.
I am going back and forth with how much I enjoyed this book. First of all, I really did not like the two main characters but I did like the concept of the story. The other thing is sometimes I got confused, and I’m seeing that other people had that similar problem because I wanted to look and make sure I wasn’t the only one. But all in all it was an okay book and definitely just a regular YA book.
Wow, wow, wow. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, it twisted in a new way. This story is a page turner that the reader will not be able to put down. I loved the premise. I loved the characters. I loved the mystery. I loved how it kept changing,, with suspense increasing and characters growing. It has a satisfactory ending, but I for sure want more, more, more! Teens and YA fans will love this book, which I hope has a seqycoming soon!
Rating: 2,5 stars
I’m conflicted. Did I enjoy reading Echoes? I mean, I kinda did. Am I annoyingly confused? Hell yes.
This novel is about two teenagers who are being chosen for a special school program and there are sort of two storylines but first, the characters. Fiona, she’s a lightweight kickboxing champion and Miles, he’s just.. A smart and rich guy. These two characters could not be any more stereotypical. Fiona’s the badass and tough girl who doesn’t take shit from anyone and Miles is an arrogant but very gorgeous and smart guy. And they hate each other!!! Until!!! They suddenly don’t.
Okay moving on, there are kind of two storylines which is confusing as hELL?? Initially I was wondering if the author was just too excited about their plot, had two different versions of it and so decided to go along with both of them. Which, btw isn’t the case but you’ll understand my confusion, hopefully. The plot, without really spoiling anything, is basically a conspiracy after conspiracy. Which can be quite cool if you think about it, but honestly, it didn’t really do it for me with this execution. I didn’t particularly like the main characters, the writing style was plain and I never really was hooked on the story or anything.
Long story short? This could’ve been really cool but it wasn’t my cup of tea, I guess.
Echoes was an outstanding book that I didn't want to put down. I wouldn't have put it down if I hadn't had to do... life stuff.
I love the characters in this book. At first I thought that Fiona was a little overreacting towards her attitude towards Miles, but the situation resolved itself. The character's evolving relationship just shows that you really can't judge a book by its cover.
The plot was really strange. The ending was really strange. There could be a sequel to this one, although it doesn't look like one is planned. It would be nice if the plot had actually resolved itself rather than ending in something of a cliffhanger, but it actually fits into the rest of the scheme of the book (it's a trip).
It's obvious that the author knew her way around Germany. Even though I have never been to Berlin, I could see that she was describing the streets and locations as well as I do when I describe places that I am familiar with.
There were some uses of German and Russian in the story, which I thought was really cool, because I speak both German and Russian. It's not used a lot (don't worry), and whenever it is used, you can tell what it means through the context.
In five or ten years, this book may date itself, just because of some of the words in the book. Fiona describes some of the leaves to be "the size of an iPad" and there are references to social media platforms that may or may not be around at some point in the future. Still, it's a fun read for today.
I liked it and would recommend it to friends that like books that have a little mystery and puzzles to figure out to them... and don't mind if the ending isn't entirely wrapped up neatly in a bow.
Epic book! Lived all of the plot twists and turns. It was a literary case of whiplash! Really hoping for a sequel, because that ending is super intense. My heart was racing from all of the craziness, I don't know where to begin, honestly. I love that the female protagonist is so strong and suffers from a weakness I can relate to as well and Miles sounds absolutely dreamy!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a digital arc in exchange for an honest Review!
I don't know what I just read, it was so full of mystery. I couldn't put it down and finished in one day. The description doesn't reveal much so I only have the slightest idea of the story.
Two students who are going on an internship in Germany, but the plane crashed and found themselves on an island, alone and can't remember anything.
Fiona, who is a lightweight kickboxer is a tough girl, who doesn't have any friends in school due to her average family background.
Miles, rich and popular, and smartest in class.
They are different and apparently don't like each other.
The story took place from Fiona's POV, I took time to realize what is happening because the story is set in two places at same time.
I really liked Fiona and Miles, they are cute together. The last few chapters reveal many things many characters. I am still trying to figure out many things the ending was so full of mysteries and shocking and a cliffhanger, so I am expecting a sequel here?
I did enjoy the story, characters and pace of the book, but I am not sure If I want to read a sequel.
I couldn't find out the name, Miles last name is Echo, So Echoes, but it doesn't make sense for me.
I can summarize this book in five words, what did I just read?
“Echoes” tells the story of rivals Miles and Fiona who find themselves paired together for an internship in Berlin where things go from bad to worse when they crash land on an island with little hope of rescue. As time passes and more about the island is uncovered they learn quickly that something far more sinister is at play and if they don’t put their differences aside they won’t survive.
I feel like this book was written by two people who had the general idea of what the other was writing but never actually spoke to check it out so part one reads like a survival story with an added layer of mystery worthy of that of “Lost” but part two dives head first into some kind of heavy sci fi drama with double agents and deceit giving us a cliffhanger with zero hint of answers.
The characters themselves are so clichéd it’s not even funny we have the playboy rich boy and the tough and pretty when she puts on makeup girl who doesn’t put up with his bullshit but after a few quiet moments and heart to hearts they realize it’s all been a misunderstanding and cue the kissing. With the first act being good it was easier to put up with the flat, familiar characters and their arcs but once we hit the second part I just stopped caring altogether which made the one reveal if you can even count it as that underwhelming.
I can’t say much else other than all I wanted was to finish this so I could move on, it might work for some people but it just wasn’t for me.
**special thanks to the publishers and netgalley for providing an arc in exchange for a fair and honest review**
Let me start by saying that I went into this book pretty skeptical after the first couple chapters. I still have some issues with it, but I can’t give it anything less than 4 stars. Based on overall plot/mystery/suspense, this is easily a 5-Star story. But there were some things that held me back from rating it as such (discussed below in the Cons Section, if you are interested).
This book at times felt like a mix of Lost, Hunger Games, and Maze Runner. Maybe a little bit of Inception, too. It follows two story lines, and the reader is left trying to decide which one is real, or if both (or neither) somehow are. Can I just say I really loved this? Because I did!
The mystery and suspense had me turning the pages frantically at times, desperate for answers. I love a good mystery, and this did not disappoint. However, our questions, ultimately, are not answered; the book ends with no real explanations, and left off as a bit of a cliff-hanger, so I am REALLY hoping there is a sequel in the works. For me, usually, the reveal in this type of book ends up being a disappointment/let down, so maybe ending it this way was good. It left me wanting more, still unable to stop thinking about it and trying to come up with my own theories.
Overall - awesome story! Though it wasn’t perfect, the plot kept me guessing (still guessing!) and wanting more. I’m very excited to see how it all plays out, if there is in fact a sequel some day. I would definitely recommend it to others.
The Cons:
1) The characters, for me, were not that likable. Miles grew on me as we learned more about him, but Fiona just never did. She just seemed too constantly antagonistic, in both her actions and thoughts.
2) There were a couple instances of “teen-speak” that just didn’t fit. “So extra.” “What even.” It just didn’t feel natural, like the author was trying to appeal to the Tumblr audience. Maybe teens really do talk like that these days, but the characters were also portrayed as relatively well-spoken and intelligent individuals, so these phrases jarred me out of the story every time. In this same vein, all the pop culture references (Instagram, Teen Wolf, and many others) at times felt a little much.
3) I won’t say there were any glaring pot holes, per se, but plot points/devices hit pretty thin ice at times. I won’t give examples, but there were times when rationales or explanations seemed pretty thin/fragile - like you shouldn’t think too hard about it or you’d start scratching your head.
4) At times, it felt like the story was a little long-winded or rambling (kind of like my review, thanks for noticing). Explanation is, of course, a good thing, but sometimes it was a little too much.
HOWEVER, all that said, I still really LOVED this book! You can’t beat an awesome plot that keeps you guessing. I can deal with those “cons” when the plot is this good.

When I first picked up Echoes I had the early impression that this story was going to be a combination of the hit TV show Lost and Gossip Girls. By the time I finished reading the first chapter I ended up explaining to a friend that Echoes was like a fanfic of what would happen if Hermione and Draco were stuck on a deserted island together. The two characters, Fiona and Miles, seemed destined to follow my favorite trope of Hate to Love.
Full of intrigue and flashes between past and current tense, this book really spoke to my inner curious cat. I love it when a book taunts you with enough mystery that you are instantly transformed into Sherlock Holmes and you spend hours trying to figure out what’s going on before the book reveals the answers. Echoes did a good job of enlisting my inner detective skills.
Overall, while the first few chapters instantly captured my attention, the following chapters were a little slow and tedious at times. At one point I began to wonder if I was going to finish the book as my interest began to wane. I think the biggest issue Echoes faced was that it lacked depth.
As a reader, I found that Reeds only grazed the surface of both characters personalities and I deeply desired more from her. There were often aspects of a scene that were completed glossed over that could have been valuable for character development. Further details could have also helped in emphasizing the dread and fear the two characters would have been feeling as the strove to survive. There was also a few moments where I wondered if perhaps the book was being written by two different people, as some scenes were detailed and rich with suspense and plot driven, where as other times it was superficial, minimum details and sluggish.
All in all the concept of the book was very entertaining and I was endlessly theorizing on what was truly going on. For that reason alone I stuck with the book until the end. I gave Echoes a three out of five because the plot itself was very good and would make an excellent movie - but it lost a few points due to the lack of depth and pace.
If you loved Lost and enjoy reading tales about surviving on a deserted island (“Wilson!!!!!!”), then you will love Echoes.
I received an advanced readers copy from Netgalley in return for a fair and honest review.
This is a very fast read that keeps you turning the pages just to find out what exactly is happening only to get to the end and find out that this will not be a stand-alone book and you're not getting any answers. A very suspenseful storyline, no doubt, but full of the typical YA book themes and clichés. With that being said, teens will love this book and that is the intended audience after all. 3 1/2 ⭐

There are a lot of good things to say about this book, least of all that by the end of it, the reader doesn't know very much about the underlying mystery, which is a good set-up for a sequel. I loved both the main characters a lot, and their interactions were realistic. However, I do feel like the book could benefit from some tightening and cleaning up of the story. Sadly, it descended into stereotypes and clichés quite often, only to be followed by great story moments. I think this is the author's first book, so I'm curious to see how she will approach a next novel as most of the issues I have with the book are most likely things that will be overcome with time.
Echoes was my first book by Alice Reeds and all I could say is give me more please. This book was amazing it had me tearing through it to find out what happened next. GREAT BOOK
