4.5 Stars Donna Michaels is truly a master at her craft, and she just keeps getting better! She has delivered yet another amazing addition to The Men of At Ease Ranch series! The Army Ranger's Surprise took me on an emotional journey with Leo as he battles to resolve the demons of his past and move forward with his life. I loved this story and series and look forward to reading more.
**I received a copy of The Army Ranger's Surprise from Net Galley and Entangled in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
The Army Ranger's Surprise is the fifth book in Donna Michaels Men at Ease Ranch series and trust me it won't disappoint you. However I'd recommend starting with the first book In a Army Ranger's Arms plus so that you can understand the men and why this ranch helps them truly come back home after giving their all. Plus meeting Lula Belle the cow will give you a laugh or two and yes, she shows up at the end of the book.
Leo Reed carries a load of guilt that he's so afraid to share with any one other then the men at Ease Ranch. But when he goes to Dallas to help his grandma, he sure doesn't expect to find her making out with her neighbor who surprise is Kaydee Wagner's grandfather. As they get to know each other Leo and Kaydee discover both have secrets and perhaps if they share with one another they will overcome their heartbreak. Can they love each other when Kaydee realizes she's expecting Leo's child even when he tries to push her away?
Kaydee Wagner grew up as a Army brat and tends to get wanderlust she stays too long in one place. But when her grandfather needs her to help him out until her parents retire she doesn't hesitate to help out. With her friend Fi they start offering veterans hair cuts at no cost giving them a new outlook at life. When she meets Leo through his grandma there's just something about him that tells her that he's the "one" she's been waiting for to make her life complete.
There will be an "Intervention" from the men At Ease Ranch when Leo tries to turn away from Kaydee's love but in the end both will find that they are the other half of their soulmate.
Leo and Kaydee are just friends, brought together by the blossoming relationship between Kaydee’s grandfather and their neighbor, Leo’s grandmother. Leo visits his grandmother often, even more so that his mom is out of town, and these visits start to involve time with Kaydee more and more.
Leo has had a rough time readjusting to civilian life, and his confidence needs some shoring up. His buddies at the At-Ease Ranch are more than supportive, but Leo just can’t let go of his own disappointment in himself. His attraction to Kaydee leads to a fling that soon becomes more than he thinks he deserves. The author does an amazing job of charting his personal battle with his inner demons and how he learns to let love and friendship heal old wounds.
These are people you’ll love to root for, cheering with each success and milestone accomplishment. As the fifth in the series, we also get updates on the four other happy couples as well as the wonderful relationship between the grandparents. I loved the people, the romance, and the message of this book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is book 5 in the Men At Ease Ranch series and can absolutely be read as a stand alone book. I have not read any of the other books in this series and could follow everything that happens in this book just fine, although because I did like this book so much I went and bought those books so I can read about their stories as well. This one is about Leo Reed and Kaydee Wagner. Leo has been fighting his demons since he was discharged. And he thinks he has made a lot of progress and can move forward in his life. Kaydee is staying with her grandfather in order to help him but the house needs a lot of repairs. Leo steps up to help with those repairs since then he can be around Kaydee more without having to reveal anything about his past. Neither is thinking about forever at the moment but little do they realize that they will come to truly love each other. But they both still need to move on from things in their past in order to truly move forward and be happy in the present.
I truly loved how this book is written. Leo has so many demons and the way he struggles is so true to life in the way a lot of vets struggle. It just pushes home how much can happen and how much our minds can push us down. Kaydee has her own issues just from being raised an army brat and knowing she is trying to work past it makes your heart break for them both. Reading about how Leo thinks and how his friends stand not only beside him but sometimes in from of him and behind him is a great thing. To know that your family and "brothers" can be more than just blood related is a truly beautiful thing. Once Leo works through what he needs to, with the help of his brothers, he realizes just how much he not only wants Kaydee but how much he needs her and loves her. This was a great read!!
I received this book as an e-arc from netgalley, all thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
I really enjoyed Kaydee and Leo's story! Their chemistry was hot and the loves scenes were too! What I enjoyed the most however was the storyline. What Leo went through in his past while in the Army really affected every aspect of his life and not in a positive way. It was great that he was able find his way to healing with the help of Kaydee and his friends. I really enjoyed their brotherhood and how there for each other they were.
I will say, I felt the ending was a little rushed and hasty, but overall I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to read the other books in this series!
3.5☆
I enjoyed the books in this series.
What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: At-Ease Ranch
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading more from this author.
I really wanted to like this book, but in the end I didn't think it was developed enough. The hero has significant issues but mostly seemed concerned when things didn't go well at a renovation project. The heroine manages to buy a duplex while working part-time as a hairdresser. I just didn't find the plot and the characterization fully developed.
3.5
This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. This is the only book in the series that I read but I will probably go back and check out more when I need a quick feel good story.
The characters were great, especially the senior couple (Leo’s gran and Kaydee’s gramps). The friendships were heartwarming.
I would recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, LLC and the author for a copy in exchange for a review.
Kaydee doesn't want to stay in one place for too long and Leo struggles with PTSD and feels like he isn't good enough. After meeting when Leo is visiting his grandma they strike up a friendship. Their attraction to one another is hard to fight, though, and soon they find themselves together.
Leo's struggles are explained very well by the author. The support he receives from his friends is wonderful, and the grandparents provide a lot of laughs.
There is some discussion about events in his past that I believe occurred in another book in the series. You don't have to read it to understand what is going on in this book, but the series is definitely worth checking out!
I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley for my honest review.
3.5 Stars.
I requested this book from NetGalley not realizing it was the fifth book in the At Ease series. The basic premise is that these are five Veterans that have founded this ranch and construction company to help vets transition to civilian life. The prior books told the stories of four of the friends and this is the story of Leo and Kaydee. Leo has been very damaged by his past, and had previously drowned himself in booze. He finally has his life together and while taking care of grandmother, he meets her neighbor Kaydee. Kaydee is very sweet, optimistic and giving. She is a ray of sunshine in Leo’s life. Leo’s demon’s are constantly threatening their happily ever after. I had a bit of a hard time warming up to Leo. If I had read the prior books, perhaps I would have understood Leo’s issues better. The book was well written and if you are a fan of this series, you will like this installment.
Top-Notch!! This is Leo's story FINALLY!! LOL!! This story is loving and heartbreaking but also fun and sexy. I have wanted to see Leo's HEA for a while and I thought this story was perfect for him. He needed a kick in the butt and Kaydee was the perfect person to do it! I also loved that Kaydee was always willing to be there for Leo when he was letting the past control his actions and she never once gave up on him. Highly recommended!
The Army Ranger's Surprise is an absolutely magical and endearing addition to the Men of At Ease Ranch and continues to show readers how much affection and passion Donna Michael’s puts into these powerful and deeply emotional books.
Readers who have followed this series from day one, will be familiar with Leo and the internal battle he has fought to recover from the scars of war, and the depths of despair he has suffered along the way. I like many others, have waited patiently for the day he to would find the one woman who could heal his damaged soul and acknowledge the good that lies within, rather than focus on the demons that have plagued his views; Kaydee Wagner is just such a woman.
Without going into details, I would simply say that this is an extraordinary series and Leo’s story is a cut above the rest. A man any woman would gladly call her own; Leo is devoted, self-sacrificing and completely unassuming in his everyday life. Thank you Ms Michaels for this wonderful and heartfelt story that was very clearly written with love.
The Army Ranger’s Surprise is part of the At-Ease Ranch series by Donna Michaels, but according to the blurb it can be read as a standalone. I have not read any other titles in this series and I can agree that this read pretty well as a standalone. There is some reference as well as interaction with previous characters and I only felt a little lacking in knowing Leo’s past actions getting him to the point he was currently.
Leo Reed is a restless former soldier dealing with PTSD. With the help of his friends he was finally able to get therapy to deal with his tragic past. He still has trouble feeling worthy enough to fit in and make his friends proud, he has trouble accepting that they don’t need to carry him through life. When he agrees to keep an eye on his grandmother while his Mom is out of town helping his sister, he quickly realizes he has an even better motivation to visit Grams, in the form of neighbor Kaydee Wagner. He is attracted to Kaydee but getting involved means talking about the past and he knows if she ever finds out about his past she would leave him faster than anything.
Kaydee Wagner gave up her home to move with her grandfather into a duplex in the small town of his choosing. She promised her parents she would take good care of him until they could get back home in 2 years, after her father’s time was up in the army. Restless is Kaydee’s middle name, rarely staying in one place very long, but she knows she needs to do this for her family. And having Leo Reed visit his grandmother every week just adds to the appeal. He helped them move into the house and she was enamored from the word Hi. But getting involved means getting out of her comfort zone, could she actually be able to be someone’s girlfriend. She was horrible at it, but for Leo she would give it a good shot. But she can tell he is holding back, can she get him to let go?
Leo and Kaydee both suffer from a restless energy inside them and it will take a lot for them to let go of that feeling and be free to stay together. When they find themselves in an unexpected situation they both realize they need to let that edge go so they both can move forward in life. I enjoyed Grandma Ava and Grandpa Nate as secondary characters. As well as Fiona and all the At-Ease boys and the girls that love them. Even Lula Belle the cow has a good storyline haha. I’m glad I ended up receiving an advance copy of this novel, I will definitely be looking up the other titles to add those to my bookshelf. Any opinions expressed are my own; no expectation for review was ever expressed or required.
This is book 5 of the very touching and wonderful series , The Men of Ease Ranch. Army Ranger friends who have seen and lived hell, but whose values, friendship and hearts make them a force to be reckoned.
This story belongs to Leo, the inspiration for the ranch and the one that has risen from darkness. A man that believes he is not good for anyone. Kaylee is an Army brat who never stays in one place because she gets restless. But, that doesn’t stop her from being a caring person filled with life . She has moved to Dallas to help her grandfather as well as keep an eye on him until her father retires and her parents can move to Texas. There she meets Leo, whose grandmother lives down the street and is VERY good friends with Kaylee’s grandfather.
The story of these two at times was heartbreaking but also heartwarming. Will they be able to overcome personal obstacles and find their HEA?
Aside from an engaging plot and complex characters, the author reminds us of the need for us as a society to assist those brave men and women who fight for our freedom. We need to find ways to help them return to civil life. Also a reminder, that love can and does conquer everything , especially when you find the person that makes you feel whole .
It was great to catch up with the characters of the previous books. Though I am sad to see the end of this series, I am so very glad to have had the chance of reading each and every book .
I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was a great book. Kept me occupied almost all day.... I laughed and I cried and just plain out smiled through the whole book! Can't wait to read more from the author.
I loved this story with Leo and Kaydee. Leo live at At Ease and is making the drive to his Grandma's from the ranch to check up on her while his Mom is gone. One weeknight he pops in to find her making out with the neighbor on the couch. A vision they don't make enough bleach for. Kaydee is in the kitchen doing up dishes. Leo's been watching Kaydee since she moved in with her Granddad (the man in the living room with his Grandma) and is attracted to her but tells himself he's got too much baggage. Kaydee is attracted to Leo too but she's only here until her Dad retires from the military two years away, and then she's moving. She learned early not to attach herself. But these two are like rubber and glue. I loved watching them dance around each other and slowly slip into their happy groove. They have a couple bumps along the way, but they manage to work through things thanks to lots of not so gentle encouragement from the rest of the crew at the ranch! It was great to revisit the ranch and see everyone again! It's got the right amount of tension, humor and sizzle. I love this series and this book was another winner!
**arc from NetGalley and Entangled for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own**
There are so many surprises for Leo. Most of all is learning that his friends and family respect him.
I really, really loved, The Army Ranger's Surprise.
I have been eagerly awaiting Leo’s HEA and couldn’t wait to read this book. And I must say it was a beautiful read.
Though Leo is enjoying life again, he still fears that he might get pulled back into his dark past and hurt the people he cares for. Kaydee is an army brat with a wanderlust spirit. When they meet sparks fly but what starts off as a temporary affair soon starts becoming more.
The army rangers surprise had me rooting for Leo and Kaydee throughout. The story has drama, humor and amazing chemistry. I enjoyed catching up with all the previous characters and Lulu Belle :).
A series that should not be missed
Relatively fast read that was a cute romance. I found it to be pretty standard without any crazy twists or turns.
The Army Ranger’s Surprise is the last book in the At-Ease Ranch series. This book features Leo who was the most emotionally damaged of the ranger “brother’s.” Leo meets Kaydee who is his grandmother’s neighbor. Kaydee has some commitment issues of her own, due at least in part, to her transient childhood spent as an Army brat. Not only do Leo and Kaydee “get” each other, but they also have an incredibly strong attraction that eventually leads to love. The book ends with Kaydee giving birth to their daughter and the rest of the rangers happily married. It was a satisfying end to the series. However, it should be noted that this book probably doesn’t work well as a stand-alone book. It really needs to be read in conjunction with the other books in the series.
