Detective Josie Quinn is called to a scene when 30 year old bones are discovered!! It turns out they belong to a girl named Belinda Rose. But that was Detective Quinn's mother's name......how can that be???
Josie was abused as a child and definitely had no wish to ever go back to her past but it looks like she'll have to!!!!
What is happening????......Read the book everyone!!! It's brilliant. Thanks Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book.

Her Mother's Grave is the third book in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. Published by Bookouture, and released 19th July, 2018, it's 346 pages and available in ebook, paperback, and audiobook formats.

This is a graphically brutal novel. Every possible trigger warning is appropriate; there's explicit psychological torture and abuse, drug abuse, sexual abuse, trauma, sexual abuse of a child, etc. I read this book as a standalone, and wondered (no spoiler warning) if the book might actually be using the unreliable narrator trope (it isn't). I was sort of impressed wondering about that since it's the third book in the series using this main character.

All that being said, it wasn't an easy book to read, though it is a well written book. I do like police procedurals and mysteries especially with ensemble casts and I'm more than willing to stick with an author for a long while in a series until they find their footing. The plotting in this particular entry is taut and suspensful, it just felt like slow torture to read about all the horrible things which happened to main character Josie as a child and as an adult. It was (for my taste) just over the top.

I do know there are huge numbers of fans of procedurals/thrillers who really love nonstop action and suspense. The ratings for this book and others in the series are proof of that. I will add that the language is quite brutal throughout with a fair bit of strong cursing, so for readers for whom that's problematic, it's something to be aware of going into the book.

I will stick around to see how the characters develop, though the violence may cause me to bail on the series eventually.

Three and a half stars.

Thoroughly enjoyable story. Lots of fast paced action with plenty of twists and turns. We learn a bit more about Josies childhood while solving a tricky case.

3 Stars.

When Josie Quinn is called to a scene where human bones are discovered, she is immediately reminded of her childhood. The trailer park where she grew up and her deceased ex-husband, Ray. And then it gets worse. The bones that are discovered belong to a woman named Belinda Rose, who has been dead for over 15 years. Yet Belinda Rose is the name of Josie’s estranged mother... who is very much alive.

Shortly thereafter, a second body turns up and Josie, Noah and Gretchen’s investigation heats up. Thereafter, things turn personal for Josie when someone targets her and she has no idea why. Bad things keep happening to Josie and even the police department can’t track the person whose after her.

Switching back and forth between the past and the present, we slowly learn all about the abuse Josie suffered at the hands of her mother. Let’s just say that if I were Josie, I’d be afraid of closet doors too. It’s no wonder that she has closed herself off from everyone around her. My only hope is that now that this is out in the open that she will be able to let others in. That said, a part of the story that lots of my GR friends were clamoring for - a romance between Josie and Noah - bothered me a bit..I found it to be a bit contrived and well “too early” considering that her ex-husband only passed on a few years earlier and she and her former fiancé broke up 6 months prior. Give the girl some time already!

“Her Mother’s Grave” is crazy and suspenseful - the twists are hard to keep track of and the path they lead you down are surprising to say the least. I honestly don’t know how Josie followed them or even solved any of the mysteries, but she is resourceful. All in all, “Her Mother’s Grave” is an entertaining mystery by Lisa Regan which finally gave us all the background we’ve been waiting for on Ms. Josie Quinn. If you like Detective stories - and have read the other books in this series, you’ll like this one too.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Published on NetGalley and Goodreads on 8.4.18.

I have read the previous books featuring Josie Quinn and thought them all worth five stars- which leaves me nowhere to go with this one. I thought this was 5*+!!

Some boys playing in the woods unearth bones. The autopsy identifies the body as Belinda Rose- Josie's mother! But the bones date to the time when Josie's mother was definitely alive and making Josie's life a misery!

Previous books have hinted at Josie's unhappy childhood, but in this book we follow her life from a very early age & it makes harrowing reading. It is quite amazing she has grown up to be a caring human being after such dreadful abuse.

Attempts to find out what happened to the real Belinda Rose puts everything Josie holds dear in danger.

A fabulous read! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher- this was a smasher!

Take a deep breath - you're in for an amazing ride. Her Mother's Grave by Lisa Regan is a non-stop heart-pumping mystery filled with twists and turns and unexpected situations.

Chief Josie Quinn is a determined no nonsense cop. Her less than stellar upbringing makes her suspicious by nature. When human remains are discovered by a couple of young boys in a place she would rather forget, the story gets rolling. As the identity of the victim is revealed, she gives it her all to find out what happened and in the process finds out things she could have never dreamed about herself.

I'd love to get into more details, but it would be at the risk of too many spoilers. I haven't read the two previous books so you can start with this. You can be sure I'm adding Books 1 & 2 to my to read pile. Bravo Lisa Regan!

Josie comes to the scene and asks Noah, "What he's got"? Noah points to the backseat of the cruiser, and says "A couple of kids playing in the woods found some bones". Josie peered through the Window into the back seat of the cruiser where the faces of two young boys stare back at her. They couldn't be older than ten or eleven. Both were covered in mud. One of the neighbors called it in.

The boys dug up three fox holes and stopped when they found the bones. Josie and Noah found out that the bones were of a girl between the ages of sixteen and nineteen years old. They were thinking the bones were thirty to forty years old. Then they found out that the bones belonged to Belinda Rose, Date of Birth October 15, 1965. Josie says "that is not possible, Belinda Rose can't be dead. She couldn't be dead for thirty years because Belinda Rose is my mother and she is still alive. Josie thinks if Belinda Rose was buried thirty years ago, who the he'll was the woman who called herself Josie's mother.

Just as Josie gets close to uncovering a secret that will shatter her world forever, another body is uncovered. It's suddenly clear that someone very close to Josie will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried forever.

This is the third book in the Josie Quinn Detective series. I just love Lisa Regan. She is a fantastic author. I love the Claire Fletcher Series and I am now loving this series. I think this one is the best one in this series, so far. This one goes back to Josie's traumatic horrifying past. This is a very dark mystery. It has very tough subject matter and it is very hard to read at times. This book shows why Josie is the way she is and I loved that I got to know Josie more. I just love her. She has been through so much.

I was immediately drawn into the story and it was so gripping til the very end. All of the characters were very well developed and it was very well written. This one was a winner and I can't wait to read the fourth one. I don't think any of the books could too this one.

This was a Traveling Sister Read and it was a great discussion.

I want to thank Netgalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Josie Quinn is a police chief whose memories of an abusive childhood continue to trouble her. Her investigative skills are tested when human remains are located in the trailer park she grew up in. The sole identifying feature is the victim had extra teeth like fangs. Josie is stunned when enquiries reveal the body is identified as having the same name and date of birth as her mother.
In the course of the investigation a huge family secret is uncovered and it won’t be a straight forward path to revelation.
The story swings from current day to Josie’s childhood with an almost hypnotic ease. Always having had an interested in medical related matters I loved the explanations of what’s normal and what is isnt during an autopsy. Josie’s resilience as a child was amazing as well as impressive. She seemed a real survivor. This novel made me consider how hard it must be for children in abusive life situations to cope/survive.
I was a bit surprised to read Josie had CCTV installed and neglected to have an alarm system. This seemed odd in light of her law enforcement background and personal experiences.
This is the third book in the series and I enjoyed it even more than the second. The author skillfully drew me into Josie’s abusive past and flawlessly switched between past and present events.
Readers who enjoy crime mystery thrillers will enjoy dipping into this story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free digital copy of the book in return for an honest review

I read Her Mother’s Grave with three of my Traveling Sisters and this story left all of shocked with that final twist that we all enjoyed and never saw coming.

Her Mother’s Grave is the third book in the Detective Josie Quinn series and has come to be the favorite of the three for me and this series has also become a favorite of mine. Josie did not start out as a favorite character for me and I really thought she was cold and hard to connect with, in the first book Vanishing Girls. It took me a while to warm up to her and I really wanted to know what demons haunt her. Well, Lisa Regan takes us back to Josie’s childhood and we finally see who that demon is and see into to her dark past. A little darker than we thought it would be and Lisa Regan shocked us a bit here, as we didn’t see some of that darkest coming from her.

After human remains are discovered Detective Josie Quinn is on a new case and we start to see a connection between Josie’s past and present. From the very start, we all were hooked and didn’t want to leave a coulee into we read the very last page.

Lisa Regan does such a fantastic job here creating and developing Josie’s character over the three stories, allowing us to think and feel differently for her with each book. A real talent and gift from an author who can have us more invested in a character with each book. For me and a couple other TS this one is the best in the series and one not to be missed. I highly recommend this one and of course, I highly recommend this series. If you haven't read it, I suggest putting this one and the whole series on the top of your list.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for a copy to read and review.

This is the third in the series about police captain, Josie Quinn. It's not as fast paced as the other two and did take me a wee while to get into it. A discovery of a corpse ,dead for 30 years, is made. She is identified as Belinda Rose and Josie realises her mother has stolen the dead girls identity. Someone is now targeting Josie and she is determined to find out who! Read on!

EXCERPT: She started the fire in the nursery. Her lips curved into a smile as amber flames licked the walls and spread throughout the room, consuming the perfectly matching furniture and the carpet from which she'd spent so many hours scrubbing invisible marks. The gossamer crib canopy she painstakingly arranged every day went up in a satisfying whoosh.

'Don't wake the babies. Don't go in there until the children are up. Don't. Don't. Don't.'

This'll teach her.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: When two young boys discover human bones buried beneath a tree in a trailer park, Detective Josie Quinn races to join her team at the scene. She used to play in those woods as a child, happier outside and away from her abusive mother, Belinda Rose.

Josie’s past crashes into her present when a rare dental condition confirms the bones belong to a teenage foster-child who was murdered thirty years ago. A girl named Belinda Rose…

Josie hasn’t seen her mother in years but, with an undeniable connection between her mother and the dead girl, does she dare try to track her down?

Just as Josie gets closer to uncovering a secret that will shatter her world forever, another body is uncovered. It’s suddenly clear that someone very close to Josie will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried forever.

As she battles the demons from her past, can Josie stop this killer before another precious life is taken?

MY THOUGHTS: WOW! There are plenty of twists and turns in Her Mother's Grave by Lisa Regan. The previous two books in this series have cleverly built up to this point and, although this could be read as a stand-alone, there is a lot of background information in the first two books that would be helpful in understanding the finer nuances.

Her Mother’s Grave switches between now and Josie’s childhood, and it is very well done. The switches all have a purpose and fit seamlessly into the current story.

I thought I knew where she was going with this plot, and I was partly right. Partly. There were plenty of surprises, things that left me shaking my head in awed amazement.

I don't want to say anything more which might give anything away, but Her Mother's Grave is well worth reading. This is action-filled, suspenseful, and I just loved it!

I so love finding a new series by a new author and Her Mother’s Grave is definitely a series I will be more of soon.

There is just something about the author’s fantastic writing style that draws you in and makes you feel involved in the book. Despite having not read any of the previous books I immediately felt interested and connected to the story which doesn’t usually happen so quickly when I come so late into a series.

I adored Josie who was obviously a very together and capable women in her job as police chief but who showed her softer side when it came to dealing with her past. Through alternate chapters we come to realise how awful and harrowing her childhood had been which really made me feel for her. I also admired her greatly for being able to move on from it and make such a success of her life.

The book features one of the most detailed autopsies that I’ve read and I found it utterly fascinating to find out more about what they look for and how they discover what has happened to a victim. Despite having read loads if crime books I didn’t know a lot of the stuff so I found that very interesting.

The book is very fast paced and I was soon drawn into the story, especially as after developing a bit if a soft spot for Josie I want to see how things would end. The investigation soon becomes personal and it was heartbreaking at times to read about how it was affecting Josie and the others around her. The investigation seemed very real with not everything being obvious instantly and Josie having to work things out. There were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing and I found myself reading faster and faster as I soaked up every detail of this fabulous book.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I can’t wait to go back and read the other books in this series. Despite this being the third book in the series I feel it can be read as a standalone as anything you need to know is explained.

Huge thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and to Noelle for inviting me onto the blog tour.

Oooh this author’s books are good and I think Josie is a fabulous character!!

I loved the pace, plot, writing style and characters in this book- actually I loved everything about it from the cover to the brilliant ending – I was completely hooked by the whole thing and didn’t want to put it down. I read the book in just a few hours and was gutted when I’d finished- superb!!

The other two books released in the series were excellent but for me this one is the best to date! No hesitation from me – 5 stars!! Very highly recommended!!

Top read. Lisa Regan’s writing grabs you from the off and doesn’t let you go. We are back with Josie, hard as nails Chief Of Police and her complicated somewhat traffic personal life. A personal life that really could not get any harder - surely?
When the main plot and subplot collide!
Brilliant.

Wow! This book exceeded all my expectations and completely blew my proverbial socks off. I couldn’t put it down.

I am a new Lisa Regan fan but I absolutely love her books. Her Mothers Grave is the 3rd book in the Josie Quinn Series. It could be read as a stand-alone but it definitely works better read in order. You get to see Josie’s development and understand her relationships with other characters better.

I flew through the first 2 books so was so glad to get my hands on this one. I honestly could not pick my favourite out of the 3. After falling in love with Josie and her strength we get to dive into her past and found out what made her who she is today.

A 30 year old skeleton of a teenage girl is found by 2 boys behind the trailer park and identified as Belinda Rose. Belinda Rose is her mothers' name. In order to solve the case, Josie has to go back to somewhere she has tried to forget. Her past.

I could not put this book down. It is both devastating and gripping. It switches between the present and Josie at different ages in the past. Reading about her horrific childhood was just heartbreaking but helps us understand her character more. I guessed what one of the twists was a little bit before it was revealed but that doesn’t ruin it at all. The twist is bittersweet for Josie as it gives her answers but also leaves her with a lot of what ifs. The ending was as explosive and dramatic as expected.

I really hope we will get to see more of Josie Quinn because I need to know what happens to her and I really want to see what happens between her and Noah

I have read and enjoyed the previous two books in the series and loved this one too! The plot was intriguing and definitely a darker foray for the lead character. I loved the way the story would take unexpected twists and turns which constantly leave you guessing. I can't wait for the next instalment!

Thank you to Bookoture for letting me take part in this tour. I loved the first two books in this series so I immediately jumped at the chance to read this one. This book can be read as a stand alone but I think you would get more enjoyment out of it if you read the first two books.

I have literally just finished this book and I don't quite know where to begin. The revelations in this book are huge. In my reviews of the first two books I kept saying how I want to know about Josie's past, how she came to be the person she is. Well Lisa gave me that in spades in this book. Josie's mother is beyond shocking and we most certainly find out how Josie became the woman she is. I definitely feel like I understand Josie's character much better after these books. Josie Quinn has been through hell and back throughout her life. Lisa was not afraid to go into all the details of Josie and her childhood.

The book flicks between the present and varying points of Josie's childhood. Lisa reveals just enough information about the past to have you screaming OMG and while I worked out something about Josie before it was explicitly revealed., I'm sure that Lisa planned it that way. There is a certain sense of satisfaction when you get something right in these kind of books because it doesn't happen often.

This book will pull you this way and that. It will tug on your emotions and it will leave you feeling a down right emotional wreck by the end. It feels weird to say I adored every page because there were some real gruesome and horrific events but they were all necessary for the story. I was hooked from the moment I read the prologue and I devoured every page.

I really hope that this isn't the end of Josie Quinn because now I know her past I need to know her future too.

Well, Noelle has got me hooked on another corker! Wow! I have to berate myself too, why have I not read anything by Lisa before! Seriously where have I been living!! This is going to be rectified quickly!

This is the third in a series and whilst it can be read on its own, I think it’s best to read in order. There were references to cases and people where the background of the previous books would have helped.  You can read this and it not affect the story too much, it is just like you have missed the beginning of a conversation with someone but got the gist of it.

Where do I start? The prologue had me sucked in, who was leading this book? What fire? Who will be taught a lesson? Hello! Then nothing, radio silence... until later...

The opening chapter has the police called to a scene where a body has been discovered by two boys in a trailer park where the Chief of police Josie grew up, and life as she knows it changes forever.

I thought this book was fab, it gripped me from the start as we are switched between present-day Josie and growing up with her abuser of a mother. Those chapters were heartbreaking, how one person could treat a child like that I will never know. Through the darkness, there were some touching moments from people outside the cocoon of Josie and her mother Belinda, to show there is good in people, not just evil and darkness, and to help guide Josie in life.

I had half guessed the twist in the story a few chapters before Josie, to us the reader it was made obvious to us.  We have to watch Josie as she figures things out but when she got to the same point as you, it was heartbreaking for her but wholesome in the same way. I say that because it is now a missing piece for Josie has been completed. I can not say any more in case it ruins the ride for someone else.

I have to say something about Noah! What an absolutely cute character. Love the admiration and love he has for Josie, he always has her back and he tries to be there for her. Again I want to visit the past to see how he was before this book and hope that it is built on in future books.

I have started to turn off on my kindle the page numbers and % of the book so I don’t sit there worrying how much or little I have left to read. With this book I had no idea I was near the end, I was thoroughly enjoying the read and then I got near the end. I mean oh man! Now I have to wait for god knows how long because this book was published on 19th July 2018! Not that I am moaning too much as I can read the first two. Aaahhhhhh I need the next one and I need it soon...no pressure there then for Lisa!
