Good book. My first from this author. Gabriella and Eli are intense! Will definitely be downloading more from this author!
First things first: if cheating/infidelity is a hard limit for you, be it physical or emotional, don't read this book. I didn't really have a problem with how things transpired in the story, I just didn't feel a connection with any of the characters.
One Week is a full-length standalone, forbidden romance about cheating and infidelity!! So, if you can handle infidelity, cheating and betrayal coming from a spouse in your reads, you should give this book a try. Lots of readers are giving this book a good rating.
I really had a hard time trying to finish this book, but I wanted to be fair so I force myself to finished. Big mistake. Not a comfortable read. It only made me feel miserable and upset.
ARC kindly provided by Publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Rose's husband gives her a one-week hall pass with her lover. A well-written forbidden romance.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
You get what this book is about when you read the description and while it was really straight forward it was a very beautiful story. I liked all the characters and love that while people were hurt there was not hateful words, no horrible fighting.... it was just an overall beautiful read with a HEA. That ending opens it up for a book about one of the secondary characters and I will be on the look out. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Roya always impresses with her stories. A sexy, thought-provoking view of what happens when a spouse cheats and the other wants revenge. The relationship that develops between Eli and Gabriella is sweet and steamy at the same time. A satisfying read.
This book is definitely not for everyone and it was a slow start for me. I had mixed feelings about this when I first started and once I got through the first few chapters I couldn't put it down.
Watching Gabbie's relationship with Eli grow over the course of the story was beautiful. Seeing her struggle with real emotions about her family and her current failing relationship with her husband.
I loved reading all about Gabbie's experiences in Denmark made me want to travel there instantly. I felt like I was there.
Despite the taboo subject matter I still loved this story and would recommend it anyone.

"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sexy & sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
I can see how this book could be a hard limit for some readers but this was right up my alley. I loved it. I connected to the characters and had a hard time putting it down. I would definitely read a book by this author again.
3.5 stars
Sometimes I like the idea of a twisted married couples, three-in-the-marriage kind of book and when I do, Roya Carmen is one of the authors that springs to mind. ONE WEEK did have a familiarity in terms of reminiscence of The Ground Rules, but there were differences.
Gabriella starts an online connection with another artist on Instagram and feelings connect. Gabi is married to a very selfish man, John. I couldn’t stand John, his self-centredness, arrogance and I wasn’t surprised by the revealing of his character. Eli, the artist on Instagram was a nice guy, but I couldn’t fathom his pursuit of Gabi, knowing her circumstances. Gabi was a bit insipid for my taste.
The story is fairly absorbing, a twisted ride of betrayal but I did have problems connecting to any of the main charcters. I’m not sure what I wanted from the culmination of the story but I felt conflicted and I also found the ending abrupt.
Roya Carmen sure knows how to twist you up into a knot, question your own personal ethics and cause wringing of hands. This is a fairly angsty tale. I know what I’m getting when I read her books and no doubt I’ll be back for more.
I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

This book was definitely not my cuppa, but having glanced at a few reviews I wanted to get a look at it. More curious about the husband and his part of the story which is sadly missing. Other than the fact that he cheated and didn't lie about it and when confronted again after Gabbie decides she wants a divorce, he does admit that he loves the woman he's been having an affair with but swears he hasn't seen since he said he stopped. He even goes so far as admitting he loves her. So there's an iota of honesty from him.
Other than the obvious issues with this book, it fell flat. The writing wasn't Roya's best and the characters were one dimensional. Even her friends weren't really well presented.
This would have been a great book to toss at my morals and ethics students, but honestly I can find much better out there with more depth and character.
So having my curiousity killed here, I won't be rating or posting a review.
I do thank NetGalley and the publisher for the post release copy for my review.

Well, well, well. One Week. As soon as I started seeing teasers and heard murmurings about this book I immediately hit the preorder one-click on Amazon...and also clicked it on NetGalley. Lucky me is now the owner of both copies, haha! Thanks NetGalley and my happy one-click preorder finger! I remember sitting at my keyboard when I was writing my reviews for Ms. Carmen's series, The Ground Rules. Actually, maybe I can't... because I could barely pry myself away from my kindle long enough to do anything else but read. There's a testament for you... this author is a professional, she stirred enough interest in me that just hearing she was releasing another book was enough was enough to get my business again.
What I can tell you, since you all should know if you follow my reviews, you already know that I don't do spoilers... is that I liked this book. It was a fast paced, easy read. It flowed well, the writing itself was stellar. Reading the blurb, I was snagged as soon as my eyes latched onto the words forbidden... troubled marriage.... hall pass. Eeep, check, check, check... It was obviously catnip for me, I live to read books like this, but this read almost like a lighter version of The Ground Rules for me... like a lighter, less angsty version... almost a fade to black during the sexy times adaptation. Not really, I mean, Ms. Carmen does go there... boy does she go there... humina humina... but, it just didn't click all of the boxes for me. The pacing seemed a bit off and it was a little predictable for me. Obviously, this is just one reader's opinion, and like I stated I did like it and the writing was just so smooth, flawless, really. 4 stars.
So obviously I knew going into this book that there would be cheating, so that wasn't the issue for me. My problem with this book was Gabby for one. She made stupid decisions. She could have been a lot more honest and up front from the beginning and I felt so bad for poor Eli. He was just a pawn in her game.
Plus the ending was WAY to abrupt and didn't wrap anything up. It just left it hanging- I guess for another book about her friend but I would have rather had more of an epilogue
Gabriella thinks she has the perfect life, but she's been emailing another man for weeks. She thinks she owes it to her marriage and her husband to cut it off. Only she finds out John, her husband has been having an affair. The result of this discovery-she gets a hall pass. She can spend a week with Eli, the mystery man.
This book had a little bit of a Ground Rules feel to it-permission by the spouse to pursue something with the opposite sex. Of course Gabriella falls for Eli then had tons of conflicting feelings to deal with. I think her husband bothered me the most, he was already absent from the marriage, at least mentally if not already physically removed.
This just had a bit of a disconnect to it-I could tell where the story was going to end up-and yet when it did, i wasn't all that satisfied.
I enjoyed this book, it definitely held my attention the whole way through. I think I was just expecting a bit more... just... more. For such a complicated situation, things were hashed out a little too easily in the end for my personal taste. The story evolves exactly how you'd expect it to, which, to be honest, was NOT what I was expecting. I was expecting more turmoil, I guess. But for a standalone, the author's choices made perfect sense. I got it. It just left me a smidge underwhelmed. This was definitely sexy, certainly complicated for a bit there. And it was an entertaining read that I enjoyed. The characters annoyed me a bit, their dialogue didn't always come off as feeling very natural given the nature of a lot of their conversations, but in the end this was a solid, enjoyable romance.
