This introduction to Greek gods and heroes tells interesting (and often, disturbing, given the gods' tendencies toward immortality, incest, eating other gods, etc.) facts. It's kind of like a mini-encyclopedia to give a few details about each featured god or hero. The artwork isn't my favorite (I just don't really care for the style), and I don't think I'll actually read it to my kids (my oldest is 5) because I'm not really looking forward to discussions about eating offspring or marrying siblings. For older kids, though, who want an easy reference to consult about who's who in Greek myths, this would be a fun choice.

I read an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I received this e-book ARC through Net Galley from Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions in exchange for a truthful review.

40 mythical immortals are featured in this book: backstories, family relationships, Roman names, etc.
Each of the 40 Greek gods/goddesses/heroes/heroines is given a very visually appealing 2-page illustrated spread.
This is a nice survey book, with a perfect array of tidbits of Greek mythology for a juvenile non-fiction reader.

Perfectly designed with the right amount of graphics and information. This book is well done. I loved the way this is put together and the Greek Gods and Heroes included with all the information you'd want included.

This is an honest introduction to the stories of forty Greek gods and goddesses. All the gory details including husbands and wives who are brothers and sisters (or fathers and daughters) and brief accounts of the violent acts that the gods committed are there but all is simply told. Each god or goddess has a couple of pages in the book, complete with illustrations, interesting facts, genealogy, symbols and accomplishments, etc. This reads more like a beginning reference book than a story-like retelling of the myths. It is a good reference for those who want to learn about the early Greeks' stories and world views.

As a child I had a book which told Greek Myths, from Demeter to Persephone, the gods, demi-gods, the tricks of Zeus. And I was fascinated by these stories. As a lover of literature I cannot tell you how many times I've came across references/metaphors of Greek Gods and their stories in literature and also in movies, so it has proved really useful to have this information while I was still young and eager to restore information in my head!

This splendid book is something I'll offer my son when he is a bit older, when he is 7 or 8 or older.

I liked the bite size information in these series of book and the presentation is very attractive,

Only thing I'd miss is Eros's and Leto's complete storylines - it would have been lovely to read love story between Eros and Psyche (I was amazed by that story as a child, especially with candle bit!) also it touches the controversy between Leto and Niobe by saying Artemis killed her sister's however the complete revenge story is very interesting so would have loved to seen that too. But I understand the fact that it could be too much for youngsters...Who knows!

Highly recommended. Ancient Greece is fascinating so it's always useful to know about their myth.
