Dark Alpha’s Hunger by Donna Grant is the 6th book in the Reaper’s series. This series is best read in order. I did not, I will say my review will probably reflect that. I felt sorta like I came into an already established universe. Not that this story is not still great. Cause really it is worth reading. I just always felt slightly off. And there were references that went way over my head. But again, it was my choice to review a sixth book first, so I do not feel the author did not do her job. It is more like just really read these in order warning.
Okay the start was a little rocky for me. I got to meet Bran the former Reaper who has trust issues with women. Has a strong need for vengeance. And he wants to kill Death. What I got out of the start of this book.
Death might be losing her powers but she still has a trick or two up her sleeve. She needs a champion her choice is Eoghan but there is a little problem with him. You know being stuck in a hell universe and all.
Thea has a passion for music, she is a pure light that can save Eoghan. Eoghan is one of the original Reapers and is mightly powerful.
These two will save each other and the world with their love and strength.
I really enjoyed this story. I would love to go back and read what I missed cause this story is well worth it. When you want action, adventure, fantasy, and a whole lot of love I highly recommend picking this book up. But warning just read them in order.
Five Shooting Stars
Recently I have been finding myself more and more in paranormal or fantasy types of romances. The backstory, the entire build of the world with the character dynamics that are intensely passionate have consumed me completely! So finding new authors is becoming quite an addiction. Case in point – Donna Grant’s Dark Alpha’s Hunger. With the synopsis, I was seriously gushing. The overall lore of the setup had my tingles blazing!
Though, I have to admit one factor before I dive head first in my gushing. The BIGGEST issue I had was that, yes I did see that this was a sort of series but I did not go back and read the prior books. I will also be completely honest with you comrades, there are snippets of connective perspectives at the jump plus throughout the plot building yet many points I still felt I was lacking backstory, lacking the character history. It did not entirely deter my overall enjoyment but I am telling you right now, I think it would have been even better if I had just read the first books in the series instead of jumping right into Dark Alpha’s Hunger.
Whew – had to get that off my chest! Now moving on…
Thea and Eoghan were a little bit of like and dislikes for me! I hate to say that too because I overall liked the personalities of both characters and their romance dynamic was just delicious. It mean honestly, there were points when I was sweating it was steam-filled hot! They just had an entertaining type of interaction that made me pinning to have more scenes of them together. But as a solo perspective I felt that at many times the characters had very little depths. More to the point slightly underdeveloped is the right train of thought I want to go with – they had this amazing chemistry, but as simply themselves, I was not connected to the story in the least.
Putting the characters aside, the aspects of the genre was definitely a huge backbone of the build for me. Not only was the romance a big point to the genre but the entirety of magic, politics and family drama that intertwined with the main characters really aided my enjoyment. There is such an astonishing world that Grant developed for this series that really grips the reader in such an intense way, you really feel like you are in the world.
Overall – I loved the romance, and I really enjoyed the world building for the fantasy/paranormal attributes, but the characters as individuals really lacked a level of depths I would have really liked to see more multilayered. There were also points of what felt like the dramatic climax becoming more and more rushed. But honestly, I really want to add more of Donna Grant to my TBR, I am thinking I might change my opinion a little more if I had more of the series under my belt!
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
Eoghan disappeared in a previous book in the series and Thea with the help of her music has brought him back. Now that Eoghan has come back he has found that Death has tasked him with a lot of responsibilities...Responsibilities that can put Thea at risk.
Can Eoghan keep Thea safe...Does Thea even need him to keep her safe? Read and find out!
Overall this was a really good book. I liked because it answered a lot of questions from the previous books and was a very good read!
Another well-written book by Grant. She writes romance well, but also writes story around it so it isn't pin-pointed only on the romance itself. There's more going on - there's plot. That's why I read her books. They aren't the typical romances.
This is part of the Reaper series and very well written with character and storyline. Awaiting the next in the series. Sit in comfortable seat to enjoy this book you won't want to put down.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Loved reading the latest Reaper book!!! It's characters jump off the page and into your heart. Awesome book and a must read for any fan of Donna Grant. Great writing and an intriguing plot make this book will stay in your memory for a long time and have you waiting impatiently for the next book to come out.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!
Despite my initial disappointment that Ms. Grant takes a detour on delivering the story that I expected as a natural continuation from the last book in this series, I really enjoyed this book. Eoghan has been ripped away from his group of Reapers and "lost" for a few books. Imagine the surprise when the musician heroine in this story is able to wrest him free from the darkness that has held him and have him emerge from the standing stones that have haunted her most of her life with her music.
Thea has been drawn to the standing stones since childhood. Yet no one is more surprised than her when her music helps her rescue a man from the jaws of the stones. Who is Thea and what magic does her music hold? Readers will be electrified to learn Thea's parentage and revel in some of the secrets that are revealed. It seems like the Dragon King series is on a close intersect path with this series with characters crossing over with impunity.
Since Bran is taking up so much time for the group of Reapers we've met so far, the author introduces us to a brand new band who will be operating under Eoghan's leadership. I'm sure the author has a grand master plan behind introducing all these new characters. Thea and Eoghan are a great couple who fall in love of course despite the restriction on the Reapers finding love.
A great entry into the series. I can't wait to see how the story line develops in both this series as well as the Dragon Kings series.
Beautiful, half-fae Thea feels a connection with her music and she truly has a gift. Eoghan reaches for her music as she plays at the Standing Stones and it pulls him out of the Portal. Both lives are changed drastically as she learns of her mother and he becomes a leader of the Reapers. Together, they will become a strong force against the Dark Fae a support for each other.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an ARC; all opinions are my own.
This series by donna grant is one of my all time favorites. She creates a amazing world that you want to a part of. I can't wait to see where the story goes next.
Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.
This was my first taste of the Reaper series and I probably should not have started on book six. I was a little lost on some of the stuff but my love of the Dragon Kings really helped. As I was reading the Kings I really wanted a good look at the Fae in this story, so I was happy to get a copy of this one. Eoghan and Thea's story and they were so good together.... Eoghan who was under a vow of silence until death lifted it, was immediately attracted to Thea but he wasn't allowed to act on it. Sounds kind of cheesy but the struggle Eoghan went through was just so beautifully done. Thea's love for music helped Eoghan free himself from the stones in an act that must have been fate.
What did I like? The story itself was beautifully done, loved the characters and the camaraderie of the Reapers new group. I'm just enchanted by the story and the way the author just brings two characters together like they're meant for each other by the fates.
Would I buy this book? Yes. I'm a huge fan of Fae and paranormal. When the author finalizes the series I'm definitely doing a read over.
Words for the author? I can't review your book good enough to describe the pleasure I get from reading them. Loved the Dragon Kings and the Reapers are becoming an addiction as well.
This book was probably the best book sonfar by Donna Grant. She is truly a remarkable author whom i look forward to continue to read all of her series.
Love the continuing story of the Reapers. Eoghan and Thea's story was great. I can't wait for the next story!
Another dynamite book for the Reaper series by Author Donna Grant. The reader will finally find out what happened to Eoghan a Reaper taken by the bad guy Bran. So, for this reader I am happy that I got more answers to my questions from previous books. There are still some unanswered, but I am expecting an answer in the next book to this series.
The dramatic beginning to this book in Chapter One will have the reader on the edge of their seat. I mean to say it was powerful. Memorable. Impactful.
Eoghan never talked in the previous books so this book really was a shift and will cause the reader to wonder what caused his vow of silence. Seeing the inner working of his mind adds a lot of dimension to this book and as he becomes more comfortable with regards to protecting Thea the reader will see why he is a strong leader and protector.
Thea plays a violin and I swear I felt like I could hear her play the writing was so dynamic in this area. I don't play an instrument, but I felt the flow of the sound like Eoghan did. Discovering who is her mom is a shock and quite honestly the turning point in this book for all future books to this and connecting series.
This book is filled with so many emotions and the interaction of all the characters add so much life to this already fantastic read.
I recommend everyone who reads paranormal romances reads it and give it 5 STARS.
The Reapers runs in parallel to the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. Just when you think Death's story is next, Donna throws in a kink...more Reapers! This is the story of Eoghan and Thea. Drawn back to the mortal world, Eoghan for the first time wants to break his vow of silence. Given an elite role in the new band of reapers, Eoghan finds himself falling in love and learning to trust those around him.
Dark Alpha's Hunger is another fabulous story by Ms. Grant. I loved the paranormal world she has created. Great!!!!
After being trapped in a nether-realm, Eoghan is drawn to music he can hear that allows him to break through a portal and get back to Ireland. The vision he first sees is a lovely half-fae that played the music that set him free. Thea doesn’t know why she was always drawn to the stones, but she had been. She found herself often there, losing herself to her music. What she didn’t expect was a mysterious man to come through the stones one night.
This was a pretty good story. A couple of twists I definitely didn’t seem coming. I was happy to get Eoghan’s story and see him back in action. While I would love to see the ultimate battle with Lady Death, the introduction of other new characters has me thinking we probably have a few more books until that happens. I highly recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
This is going to be one of those 3-star reviews that are tough to write because Dark Alpha’s Hunger was a decent book, but it just didn’t wow me. It really should have though because it had a sexy, tortured hero, a strong supporting cast that was mostly new to me, and I liked the heroine. This is the part where I tell you it was more of a me not embracing the story issue than a problem with the book, and really, it totally was. I’m thinking most Donna Grant fans are going to really like this Reaper’s installment.
Eoghan ticked off all of my alpha hero boxes. He was loyal, trustworthy, had a rough history (like all the Reapers) and I already mentioned he was sexy. Thea worked for me as a heroine too. Brave, smart, and she had a gift with music that was so powerful, her playing helped Eoghan escape from the dimension he’d been thrown into by Bran.
I loved that Ms. Grant brought in a whole different unit of Reaper’s and tasked Eoghan with leading them. I liked the other Reapers, but the new characters were a refreshing change. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a new antagonist, just more of the same with Bran and Usaeil. And there lies my problem. After six books, I’m completely bored with the bad guys and frustrated that they are still breathing and able to cause mayhem at the end. For me, it feels like the storyline is being dragged out and I’m over it.
This is the second book in a week from series I’ve been following that I’ve felt this way about. It’s like the comics and cartoons I’d occasionally watch when I was a kid where the evil anti-hero escaped at the end each and every time and we got the “Until next week” message. In my mind, Batman should have just ended the stupid penguin the first time and never gave him a thought again. It would have saved a lot of innocent cartoon characters. LOL.
As for Dark Alpha’s Hunger, this was sweet, hot, and sexy, but I need some new adversaries brought in to sustain my enthusiasm
Rating: 3 Good But I’m Over It Stars
I love the cover because the lady on it has blue hair, just like our heroine. And I am a little jealous because I want to dye my hair like that one of these days. The one thing I remember strongly when I think of this book is the ending. The situation got serious pretty fast and Death has decided to step up her game. I have been wanting to read her story for quite some time now and I hope that the next book will be hers. Another thing that surprised me is the mention of Constantine's name. I do hope that he will make an appearance one day soon. I also hope that he and Death are going to be a couple and I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. We have 3 more books coming in this series alone and as some of you might now most of Donna Grant's paranormal series are connected, so you never know what will happen next.
I really wish we had spent more time on the developing of the characters. Thea is not your usual girl and I feel like we scratched the surface with her. I wanted to see her playing the music more and also the effect it had. Eoghan was an important person to the rest of the character from the moment I picked a book in the series and I don't feel like that was as pronounced in this book as it was in the other two I have read. He was tasked with a very important role and I want to see how it will carry it on in the future books. These two had a good story, but the sparks weren't there. They could have easily taken on this journey as friends. My opinion might change once I see them again in the next book though. At least I hope that they will appear...
Overall, the book was good and I would recommend it.
Having read some of the books of Donna Grant's Dark King Series as well as the Reaper Series, I received an arc for Dark Alpha's Hunger. To be honest: the stories get better if you read the total series, I believe. Having read part of the books, I picked up the story about Eoghan, the Reaper who had gone missing in the previous books quite easy.
He was trapped in another realm, not able to get out. Until he heard Thea play her violin. Thea, unaware of her magical heritage, is shocked when suddenly a strange man appears at her side. He learns her about her fae heritage and her abilities to sooth everyone with music.
Meanwhile Bran is still out there seeking revenge, while Death is slowly getting weaker. But now Eoghan has reappeared, the scales can tip the right way.
But I guess we will learn about this in the next parts of the series. So... I'm awaiting the next part. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Thea grew up in an orphanage. She has no idea who either of her parents are. Her only abiding love is her music. Once she was given a violin, nothing else mattered. She also has a fascination with the standing stones she visited as a child. Playing her music there will have very dramatic effects.
Eoghan is drawn to the music. Following the sound guides him from the depths of the Hell he has lived in . Now he is free, Death herself has a task for him.
The Fae, both dark and light have reason to fear. There is a new team of Reapers in play.
Lots of excitement and magical characters. Our heroine will discover things about her heritage that she would probably rather not known. You can pick your friends but not your family.
This is a series that is best read in order because of the underlying story, but you could read each book on its own.
I love this series and will read any I can get my hands on.
