This is not my first Donna Grant book this was my second and I wonder why...
I loved the other book that I read previously and said that I need to read more of her books but sadly it didn't happened. Now I really have to make a plan to read this series. I read Dark Alpha's Hunger as a standalone and it did not disappoint. I feel that this could be read as a standalone but after reading this I have to go and read the other books in the series just to satisfy my craving for more by Donna Grant. I love anything fantasy related and it has been a while since a read a fantasy, this book ticked all the boxes. Loved the writing style as well as the characters, I want more and on my way to get it!!

Oh, well done Donna Grant~

To give background: This is number SIX in the Reapers Series~
1 Dark Alpha’s Claim
2 Dark Alpha’s Embrace
3 Dark Alpha’s Demand
4 Dark Alpha’s Lover
5 Dark Alpha’s Night
—>6 Dark Alpha’s Hunger – Releasing August 7th, 2018!

One thing to keep in mind before starting this series, these books are set in her Dark World series, meaning it has connections and references to characters in other books. (Dark Kings especially) However, you don’t necessarily NEED to read the others in the series to understand this one.

What this means~ you can TOTALLY binge read these books as they’re quick and you can do it without guilt of missing parts. And THEN if you like it, there’s more in the world to explore. (just saying)

“She gaped at them and the fact that there were no pupils to be seen. Only beautiful pools of what looked like liquid mercury. “Run,” he whispered before his eyes closed.” – Dark Alpha’s Hunger, Donna Grant

So full disclosure~ I did a full read of all the Reaper books before reading this one, so I could get the full effect. (haha) I think binge reading them made it SO MUCH MORE impactful when we got to this one. Dark Alpha’s Hunger has the most development and change out of any of the books. Whether I like that or not is yet to be determined.

Side bar: I’m totally waiting for a SPECIFIC book but with what happened in this one…. I have a feeling I may be waiting forever for that story. *dramatically stomps foot in mock pout*

I was so happy to have this book though. (Trying to do this without spoilers) To finally see this part of the story arc resolved was wonderful and everything is now set up for some EPIC EPIC stuff. I’m not sure though if the amazing smack down will occur in this series or in a different part of Dark World. Either way, I’m excited to see how this turns out.

Another Side bar: As someone who also read’s the Dark King’s books. I was ecstatic to see a cameo of a certain character I despise feature in this book. I can’t wait for the ‘comeuppance’. haha

“Haven’t you realized that everything you do makes me crave you?” – Dark Alpha’s Hunger, Donna Grant

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the series as a whole. People who enjoy romance and a quick, well developed story should check out these novellas. I can’t wait to read the next book but I don’t think it’s announced yet. *cries in a corner*

Overall Rating: 4 Stars
Plot: 4 Stars
Character Development: 5 Stars
Dialogue: 3 Stars
Writing: 4 Stars
I’d recommend this book to anyone interested in paranormal romance or just romance. Enjoyable content and characters with good story closure at the end. (Although not FULL over arching story closure….not yet haha)

Happy Reading~
Ash

Powerful music that saves them both…

This is the sixth book in the Reapers series.

The reaper Eoghan, once a general in the light Fae army before being betrayed, had been missing, thrown into a realm of darkness where he’d been hunted by a creature of horrendous evil that he couldn’t see. The most enchanting music draws him to a portal back to the world he’d left to find a female Halfling who assists him in getting through the magical doorway which he has to destroy to prevent anything following. Before he can even conceive of thanking the woman she’s done as he’d asked and run away. He’d broken his vow of silence to protect her. Death suddenly appears to greet him, update him, and give him a new mission. But the music he’d heard does not leave him and he’s soon drawn to it and the Halfling again, their fates are entwined.

Thea Keegan is a Human/Fae Halfling with no knowledge of her origins, raised at an orphanage. She always knew there was something different about herself and kept her own counsel, a self-imposed solitude from the surrounding humanity, drawn to music as if she was born to it when handed a violin. The ancient dolmen stones in Ireland have always inexplicably drawn her to them and one evening she visits them and as the music flows from the depths of her soul and into the violin the world she’s known changes forever. A glow began to emanate from within the stones and then a hand comes through, she should run but something inside her makes her reach out for that hand and hold on. The most perfectly exquisite man she has ever seen comes through and when he tells her to run she does. There’s just so much a person can take of the unknown but the magnificent silver-eyed man stayed in her thoughts as does all of what she experienced and can’t explain.

And so begins a fascinating tale of the missing reaper that those we have known missed and sought trace of and a Halfling in whose genetics lie a secret unknown to her that could cost her life itself. With each of these books, I am more enticed by this imaginative paranormal fantasy world that continues to evolve, the intricacies of this tapestry of words never fails to enrapture this reader.

The main protagonists are intriguing characters, their romance that was destined to be once they’d met was a surprise to them both; they had a magnetic and palpable attraction neither could deny. There are revelations relating to the underlying storyline that crosses the books, things are intensifying. She who guides the Reapers, Death, makes a decision she’d been loath to make that she might not recover from even if she survives the battle ahead and all the Reapers will stand with her, their loyalty to Death and each other is formidable. The Reapers are those that provide justice to the Fae race, beholden to Death who gave them back life after they’d suffered betrayal in their previous lives. There is no doubting that Death’s powers are waning but she keeps many secrets. How are the reapers to save Death from death without knowing what she hides?

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

I had heard of the Reaper series but I hadn't gotten around to reading any of the books. So when the publisher approached me to review this series, I decided, why not. Even though it is the 6th book in the series, I figured I could follow the plot. Which I did, kinda. The author kept bringing up earlier characters and their relationships. At one point, I couldn't keep everything straight in my head. Other than a few quibbles that I had with characters, I enjoyed reading Dark Alpha's Hunger.

I thought that Eoghan and Thea's relationship started off odd and stayed a little odd. It was almost stalkerish since Eoghan decided to follow Thea around until he revealed himself. The only connection that he had with her was through her music. When she played her violin, he could find her. I thought it was a little creepy. Once they were together, they had great chemistry which bled over to fantastic sex.

Speaking of the sex scenes, these were hot. The chemistry between Eoghan and Thea was off the charts. I had to fan myself a few times. If it could, my Kindle would have steamed up.

I felt that Thea got the stick end of things during the book. First, she brings Eoghan back from the darkness. Then she is semi-stalked by him until he shows himself. Then her biological mother kidnaps her and lays a lot of crap on her. That girl needed a stiff drink and a hug by the end of the book. She had been put through the wringer. I did like that she was an accomplished violinist. I loved how music pulled her from a crippling depression at an early age and gave her purpose.

Eoghan's backstory killed me to read. No wonder he chose to take a vow of silence. I would have too if I had been put through what he went through. I didn't get why Death told him to rescind his vow of silence until the end of the book. Then it hit me in an "AHA" moment. I liked his relationships with the other Reapers. There was an instant bond between them.

The end of the book was interesting and laid a definite foundation for the next book.

What I liked about Dark Alpha's Hunger:

A) The chemistry between Eoghan and Thea

B) Thea music interest

C) Eoghan's relationship with his other Reapers

What I disliked about Dark Alpha's Hunger:

A) Had an issue following the plot at first

B) The start of Eoghan and Thea's relationship

C) Thea's mother

I would give Dark Alpha's Hunger an Adult rating. There is sex. There is language. There is violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread Dark Alpha's Hunger. I would also recommend it to family and friends.

I would like to thank St. Martin's Paperbacks, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Dark Alpha's Hunger.

All opinions stated in Dark Alpha's Hunger are mine.

I really should start this series from the beginning. I enjoy this world. As it is, this is my 2nd book from this author. And I liked it!

Thea is a gifted violiniest, an orphan who has been drawn to a small dance (like Stonehenge) since she was a child. Finally being there as an adult, she does not fight the need in her to play her violin. When she does, she gets the surprise of her life. Eoghan has been trapped in a limbo and it was only Thea's playing that helped him escape. The rest of the Reapers have been searching for him. Now that he's back and has his own team to lead, Eoghan hesitates to make a move on Thea, even though she calls to him like no other. But when she's threatened, all bets are off.

This world of Donna Grant is huge and full of people that I've almost lost track of who's who. Almost. It doesn't take away this relatively short (despite word count) story of Eoghan and Thea though.

I'm going to start reading about this world now. Just to better appreciate this story.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy.

Dark Alpha's Hunger (Reaper, #6) by Donna Grant ...Another great addition to the Reaper's series Donna. Thank you so much for bringing Eoghan back and giving him his own Reapers to lead. (now there are two teams) Thanks to #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. Thea saves Eoghan with her music... she is half-fae and doesn't know who her parents are. They are perfect together... Now what of Usaeil and her new secret... What weapon has Erith recovered? What is going to happen with Bran? This book grabbed me from the start and didn't let me leave until I finished it. Yes there is a HEA ..and I can't wait for the next book.

I read books from all three of Donna Grant's related series and it is always nice to be able to pick up any book from any of them and get the gist of what's going on. However, I would suggest reading all of them in release order as the intertwining plots are becoming more and more complicated.

Dark Alpha's Night focuses on Eoghan, one of the original Reapers who has been trapped in another dimension for some time. Thea is a Halfling of unknown heritage whose melody from her violin is able to free Eoghan.

The novel was the perfect length for me, about a four hour read. There was a great balance between the romance arc and the action/suspense of the novel. The introduction of the new Reapers is very exciting and I can't wait to read more about them, particularly Aisling, the sole female.

There is an intriguing revelation regarding the heroine's origins which ties in to a major character. I'm sure that Thea will play an interesting role later.

All in all, this was a good addition to the series and entire world that includes the Dragon Kings and the Warriors. I must admit that I was getting a little bored with them, but Dark Alpha's Hunger breathed new life in to overarching plot.

I have been waiting for this book!
Impatiently I might add! It always kills me when the blurbs never include names but reading the first few pages and finding it out makes it worth it!

And had I known what comes to in this book I would have been way more eager to get my hands on this! Because this one is a doozy!!

Thea is half Fae, an orphan who never knew her mother or father and never thought too hard about it. As it is, she didn't know she was half Fae. But she is drawn to portal stones from when she was a child. She's come back to it time and time again playing music. And that's how she came upon Eoghan. Yup that's right! The missing silent reaper!

Having been rescued from a place that no one should endure, Eoghan comes back changed. Thea saved him from that realm and he is grateful. He is also entranced by her and seems to be drawn to her. She begins to bring back the light that used to be in him before his betrayal. Now he not only feels the need to protect Thea but to keep her away from the live he lives.

Only there are greater things at play and Thea is a huge ginormous part of it. Her secret, unbeknownst to her, is probably the biggest bomb there is in this specific series!

Old and new enemies are out there and they need to be brought to justice. In only a way that Death can bring. Now Death will become a big player in this game and honestly I feel like we will get to see a side of her we never knew and I'm excited for it!

Former Reaper Bran has never forgotten the woman he loved who died because he told her what he was. His need for vengeance has no bounds and now he is almost in sight of that thing he wants most Death on her knees ! Death might be losing her powers but she still has a trick or two up her sleeves and to stop Bran she needs one very special Reaper but the problem is Eoghan is trapped in a hell dimension.
Step forward Thea, a woman with a passion for music that soothes the soul. Alone and always seeking something intangible but her music calls to all even a deadly Fae who will crawl back to the living to help save Death but can Eoghan then save Thea ?
Another quick read about those Light and Dark Fae who are the bogey men the Fae all fear. Eoghan was a bit unexpected to me as not only had he sacrificed himself but he had previously taken a vow of silence which quickly seemed to be cast aside ! I understand though that the mission Death gave him meant a new beginning which is very exciting to the reader but alas my lips are sealed.
What I can say is this story which introduced Thea took the overall storyarc in a new direction. Yes there’s still Bran at large up to who knows what but with this edition to the series the plot has definitely thickened. As much as I was happy to see Eoghan and Thea fall in love if honest it was everything happening around them that I really enjoyed. Expect revelations, new allies and Death about to do what she does best and that female most certainly doesn’t take prisoners !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I have to disclose I have not read other books in this series but probably should have. There was no explanation of the characters or their back stories just jumping right in to the story which threw me for a loop. The story line moves along very quickly with little to no rhythm or reason and briskly ends.

I haven’t read any of the stories in this series yet so I was a bit worried to read book six first. However, I really enjoyed it!! I do think it would probably be better to start from book one so you can get to know any back story/characters. And I definitely plan to start from the beginning since I loved this one so much! Dark Alpha’s Hunger was very entertaining with many dynamic characters. I have to say that Xaneth was one of my favorites.

This one is Eoghan’s book; one I have looked forward to since meeting the Reaper who refuses to speak for thousands of years and then sacrifices himself to save his friend Cael, causing him to be sucked into a hell realm.  He finally fights his way free and it is all because of a halfling. Thea is an orphan and ever since she was a little girl and visited some standing stones, she is drawn back to the portal stones and again and again throughout her adult years. They call to her, though she doesn't know why, and now she goes up to them and plays her violin just to get out of the city and have alone time.  It is her music that helps Eoghan find his way to the gateway where he fights to get free and she helps pull him out. He is drawn back to her again and again, and even though he tries to push her away, when she is kidnapped he will stop at nothing to find her.  Who wanted her kidnapped was a HUGE surprise and their love story was awesome and the plot was so good.  He is one of the more interesting and dynamic Reapers in the series and Donna Grant didn't disappoint with his story at all.  I am so happy with how this one turned out.  I think it is one of my all time favorite Reaper books.

Eoghan was one of the original reapers. He was captured and sent into the darkness. But when he hears a haunting melody he follows the music and is pulled through a portal stone, by the skin of his teeth as the monster at his heels almost had him!

A lot has changed since he was captured but Eoghan is more than entranced by the musical talents and beauty of Thea. Thea has been drawn o the stones since she was a child. She finds solace playing at the stones. But she gets more than solitude when a portal opens and she feels the need to help the male trying to escape.

Eoghan took a vow of silence but can he keep quiet and not voice the feelings he has towards Thea?

Death appears, now in a haggard state, and tells Eoghan that he is now in charge of a further group of Reapers. But first he has to tell his original team-mates that he has returned! Thea is more than a musical savant and there are major plans afoot involving her, but I was left reeling when I found out who and why!

Eoghan and his new band of Reapers are very intriguing and I can't wait to see what they are like in more depth in the following books. Great read.

The sixth book in the Reaper series by Donna Grant is called DARK ALPHA’S HUNGER. As a preface, I want to warn readers who may be new to this series that it’s really important to read the books in order. Although Grant provides some recap, there isn’t very much of it in this book.

With this book, the heroine, Thea, becomes the key to Eoghan’s solution. This book definitely had a different feel from the other books in the series and I’m not necessarily sure it was a good thing. Although Grant’s writing is very free-flowing and easy to read, I felt like it really lacked character this time. There were virtually no descriptions and very little details which seems a bit odd since most of her books that I’ve read usually have all this. To me, it almost felt like the author was rushing through this book, leaving out a lot of the key points that make this book feel full. Despite getting the main points across, I really do feel like parts of this book were underdeveloped.

However, I did end up liking the main characters of this book. Both Thea and Eoghan have interesting stories. But like I said, something does feel a bit lacking. The romance is there, but I felt like the sparks didn’t shine as brightly because things felt a bit rushed. As a result, this is a very fast read. I read it all in one sitting so I definitely felt like things moved a bit too swiftly. I’m hoping that Grant’s future books are less rushed and more detailed next time.

Dark Alpha's Hunger is the 6th book in the Reapers series by Donna Grant.

This is a paranormal romance read, but unfortunately needs to be read with the others in the series. I enjoyed my time with this story but I feel that it would have been more enjoyable if I was up to date with the overall story arc. Going into a book that is 6th in a series is always a risky chance, I have only recently started reading Donna grant and I really enjoy her way of writing and the worlds she creates.

Dark Alpha’s Hunger is a soul-shattering masterpiece that gifted me a glimpse into a breathtaking world of brilliant fantasy and heart transforming love. This is gold standard of storylines that will shatter your world of just fantasy and rocket you into a realm of the magnificently gifted! What a precious and priceless gift from the out of this world creative and heart transforming author that every romance and fantasy reader absolutely NEEDS to experience and savor. Donna Grant is a fabulous story teller who has made me a devoted fan for life!

Thea’s life is one of deeply quiet solitude. The only thing that makes her heart feel and her soul soar is her music. It is her only solace in world where she is truly alone. One day her world changes in the blink of an eye. Following a life-long impulse, she ushers a dark and devastating stranger into the world and her very life. She gets more than she ever bargained for, and her heart will lead her on a journey that would leave most broken and shivering in the corner. Only her utter determination will keep her alive and push her into a world that few know of and even fewer survive.

This new world of stirring and passionate fantasy will leave your heart wrung out and your mind pleasantly spinning in a haze of wonder and elation. I couldn’t get enough of this spectacular story with mind-boggling characters. I loved I every second of it, and hated to see it end. My mind is still reeling from the majestic experience and savoring the beauty I was gifted with.

Donna Grant is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite authors! She is a true genius and offers us the gold standard of incredible storytelling. I can’t ask for anything more from a fabulous author, and I truly hope to be able to enjoy much more from her in the near future!

I read an ARC copy of Dark Alpha’s Hunger from NetGalley and St Martin’s Press in exchange for my honest opinion. Dark Alpha’s Hunger by Donna Grant is book six in the Reaper series. The Reapers are a unique group among the Fae. Both the Dark and the Light Fae make up the Reapers. They align primarily with Death and each other. Reapers are responsible for the execution of the Fae so deplorable they can no longer exist among their people. This story focuses on the Reaper Eoghan and the Half Fae Thea. When the couple finds each other, Thea discovers she belongs in a world of magic she never knew existed.

One can read this book as a stand-alone, more so than the rest of the series. The storyline diverts a bit with this installment. It moves away from the main Reaper group and introduces multiple new characters. I always suggest in a setting such as the Dark World, that reading all previous installments take place. Hostilities in a realm that includes the Reapers and the Dragon Kings in the immediate, and going as far back as the Dark Sword series, are now in full swing. Several characters that share time here have deep-seated pasts. To omit confusion background information is given when relevant, but the full dramatic effect will not occur if that past is not familiar to the reader.

As always, the characters are engaging. And who doesn’t enjoy a sexy Fae with an Irish brogue? Eoghan has the respect of his fellow companions due to his integrity. Thea overcomes a dark past to find happiness in a new world. The attraction between the two is fast and fierce. I am not typically in support of an insta-love scenario, but overlook it when the payoff is worth it. In the Dark World, the thematic developments deeply integrate into their world and are tremendously compelling. I like the buildup of various subplots, and again, sexy Fae.

For those who are aware of the Dark World and its complexity. ** Beware of minor spoilers.** Usail, the Light Queen, has gone way beyond what I feel is redeemable. Or rather, any delusions regarding Usail’s true nature can no longer be contested after her actions and admissions in Dark Alpha’s Hunger. If one considered Usail’s words carefully, there is a slight hint about Rhi and her Dragon King. Perhaps one that gives it away. But, maybe not. This secret, as for many others readers, is one I am invariably trying to uncover.

What I find best about these books is the world building. The Dark World is a fun and intriguing urban fantasy setting, everything interconnects. The males are dominant but possess decency and honor. The women rise above their fear and become better for it. The romantic interludes are always sensual. I plan for the release dates, so I don’t have to wait to experience them. My opinions may not match others, and I encourage everyone to find their own.

I received this arc from St. Matin’s Press and NetGalley. This has no influence on my review.

Dark Alpha’s Hunger is book 6 in the Reapers series, which is a spin off of the Dark King’s series. Because this is a novella, I recommend reading the other books in the Reaper’s series before this one. There isn’t much world building and characters are introduced without much backstory assuming you’ve read about them already.

Thea was orphaned as a baby and grew up in a children’s home in Ireland.. She find music as her solace and is drawn to a set of stones which are a portal to another realm. One day, she’s playing her violin and a hand suddenly appears from the portal. Eoghan is pulled through with Thea’s help and defeats the beast that followed him.

There is a ton that happens in such a short span. Eoghan finally speaks after thousand of years, he becomes a leader of his own reapers, a fae kidnaps Thea, Eoghan, Cael and the new reaper group go to save Thea, Thea figures out who her mother is and she has other family,Thea and Eoghan fall in love, AND we pretty much get confirmation on who Rhi’s King is. It was too much for less than 200 pages. The details Grant is known for in her King series are missing in this book and I didn’t connect with Eoghan and Thea.

It’s a good installment, I just wish Grant would turn this series into novels vs. novellas.

For me it was the first book in this series that I read. I liked the aspect with the music/violin and I liked the other characters very much.
I loved Eoghan and his relationship with his new group of Reapers. He is like a legend to them and he treats them as he should, with trust and respect.
