What a darling book! Just the Right Size is a heartwarming little tale about animals and their capabilities based on their size. It’s a great teaching tool for a few concepts- animals, size context, and acceptance of ourselves for our talents. The illustrations are sweetly done, and make a perfect bedtime story. The repetition make it easily comprehensible for small children, yet intriguing for older. My son and I read this one three times back to back- he couldn’t get enough!
I think this book is worthy, rather than being clever, inventive or well put together. It starts off with lots of animals in different situations – an ant on a leaf, a mouse on a moose – and mentions a sort of opposite creature in each case, that has to go without such a circumstance – the beaver watching the ant is on a log, the moose is romping through snow. So it's all according to size, which is a worthwhile lesson to learn, then blam we get a 'hey, we're all inclusive here' message and a bit of a hug before bed-time, the end. There's a level of cuteness to the illustrations, but I didn't really feel this would hit hard with any message, even for the youngest of book users. Two and a half stars.
An adorable and lovely young children's book that will teach them about appreciation and the power of a strong narrative.
I thought this book was pretty cute. It had really nice illustration and I liked that it's helpful for children in distinguishing big things from little things(my son needs help with that right now lol). Toward the if my ARC, the sentences got mixed together but we pretty much figured it out. All in all I think it's a cute little book and my son seemed to like it as well.
This is a very cute book for young children to learn the concepts of big and little. One thing I really like is that they use animals that you typically do not see in children's books, such as ostrich and tortoise. The illustrations were very cute as well. The elephants on the cover is what drew my attention to this book. I will be sharing this one soon with my little friends.
This is such a sweet book for young emerging readers. The sight words are in bold, allowing children to easily see them on the page. The writing is repetitive in nature, which enables children to recognize the pattern and predict what might happen next. The book has a sweet moral and positive message that all young readers will appreciate.
This is an adorable picture book that can be used to teach children about animals. I love how the author wrote the ending. It's heart-warming.
Gorgeous illustrations add to this wonderful concept book to teach the difference between big and small to young readers. Lovely!
A quick tour through the animal kingdom, differentiating by size. Example: “A ladybug can land on a tree branch, a giraffe cannot. But a giraffe can do something else that’s great.” You get the gist, the point being that every animal is good at something no matter what the size.
Ends with a lesson and an interracial family hug, which is nice but a little highhanded, and probably not going to be understood by kids small enough to read this.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
Absolutely sweet! Gently and well-illustrated, this picture book about being “just the right size” is filled with example of the same. A ladybug is small enough to perch on the highest leaf of a tree—a giraffe is not (but it can reach the high leaves). A big mama elephant can keep her small calf dry in the rain. An ant is small enough to walk along a blade of grass—a beaver is not. But a beaver is big enough to waddle across a log—and so forth. This is sure to become a “read it to me again” favorite. Five stars.
Adorable story teaching kids everyone’s just the right size for their role in life. Cute illustrations and my two year old grand baby has asked to re read it again and again. Advanced copy received thru NetGalley, many thanks.
AWWW! So sweet! Comparisons to big and small animals are wonderful and note worthy, for teaching children about big and small, but love the concept of never too big or small to get a hug! Loved the illustrations! So cute! Young kids will enjoy this story.
Children need to know that they are perfect the way they are. They are neither too big or too small. And this book tells kids that animals are both big and small but they are perfect for what they are supposed to be.

And the most important part? That kids are perfect for hugging.
Cute book, that also teaches a little about animals.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is children's book. The story is cute and the ending is great! The graphics are good and children will enjoy looking at them. The animals used are easily recognized by everyone. This would be a great bedtime book. First read to them and then have them read to you. Enjoyable. I rate this 4 stars.
What a cute little story!
My kids really enjoyed this short read about animals and being big and small.
The story was sweet and the graphics great!
This is a cute story that teaches big and small by comparing what each animal, fish, insect, and so on can do based on their size. A great story to read at home to your children or for an educator to read to their students. IT is definitely a book for younger grades. The pictures are colorful and very cute. Children will enjoy seeing the cute and silly illustrations. The ending is especially sweet in which the author explains that no matter what size we are, hugs always fit!
Really cute illustrations, this book shows the contrast between small animals and big ones, and what the small animals can do that the bigger ones can't, and then also shows what the bigger animals CAN do. It's cute and has a nice flow, and I love the ending - you're always just the right size for a hug. :) Would make a wonderful bedtime story (with a hug goodnight at the end!)
