I love a romance and this was perfection! This author has quickly become a favourite of mine! A great well written book with great chemistry
i did not enjoy this novella. I found it boring and lack luster. i enjoyed the previous novella from the same author
I requested this book years ago, and am no longer interested in reading. Thank you for the opportunity.
Kiss me in Paris did not hold my attention at all. I wasn't a fan of the romance or the guy character and I think it had a trope I was not a fan of. It had an interesting cover and plot though! Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing chance to read and review. One star because it was not finished at the time.
One star is generous seeing as I didn't rate it at all on goodreads. It was meant to be cute but the characters... John-Luc may be the most annoying guy I've ever (fictionally) met.
I really wanted to like this book - I lived in Paris myself and was eager to see a love story.
I just didn't get involved as much, and finishing the read felt more like a chore than pleasure... bummer.
Once again, Catherine Rider made me want to travel really badly, especially since Paris has been on my list for a really long time! I loved the characters and the story, so I would definitely recommend.
It took me long and finally get to review this. The setting is perfect for a romantic story. Unfortunately, I was not feeling the story. As much as I want to feel giddy with the characters, I felt most of the time it is predictable that I had struggled finishing it.
It was a romantic book giving an idea about wanting love for myself. It was really cute. I want to thank the author for letting me read the story.
This didn't feel new and excited but rather predictable. It was very formulaic and did not hold my attention at all.
This book is the perfect light hearted read for the colder winter months.
A whirlwind tale of young live in Paris had me swooning from start to end. This story wasn’t just any fairytale, it was peppered with real life situations such as loss and illness. This novel brought me a little bit of sorrow, a great amount of fun and a whole lot of love!
10/10 and I would surely read it again!
This was a fun and romantic young adult love story that set in where else but Paris. For twenty four hours two young people will go around The most romantic city in the world trying to find something they’ve lost. When Serena and Jean Luc are forced in each others company, they go around the city, each with their own agenda. For Serena, its trying to live theough memories of her father who has recently passed and for Jean Luc, a muse for his photography class. Each place they go to does spark something in them and pretty soon its becoming apparent that it would be hard to say goodbye. Can twenty four hours all it takes to form a lastig connection?
Kiss Me in Paris will definitely make you jump on a plane and experience Paris for yourself and maybe fall in love along the way.
Such an adorable, well written quick read for young adults. Enjoyable characters and plot line, I happily read it one day and was delighted.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read it in exchange for an honest review, I’ll definitely be picking up the other titles by Catherine Rider to read in the future!
Kiss Me in Paris is a charming novel by a Catherine Rider. It follows a determined but naive young girl who arrives in Paris and is immediately surprised that things don’t turn out exactly as she planned. The plot is cute but predictable. However, I read this book because I love all things Paris. This book is a fun read nonetheless. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own.
A fun and light read! It made me think I was actually in Paris. If you liked love and gelato give this book a chance!
I liked it, but I wasn't amazed
I voluntarily reviewed an Reader Copy of this book which I received through Netgalley.
I don't have anthing to say about this book, I was not impressed at all, the only thing that I liked was names of places in Paris which reminded me of my own trip there.
Okay, so if any of you are avid readers on my blog, you'll remember that back in January I did a dual review of Together in Midnight, and the author's first book, Kiss Me in New York (link here). Well, if you were also following me on Twitter at that time (not likely, I know, but still) you would've seen the following tweet:
https://twitter.com/BookLovinBelle/status/950421270914650112
And guess what? *Both* authors not only commented on the tweet, but also agreed to read each other's books!
Why do I mention this? Because in that same tweet, Catherine Rider also mentioned that she was going to be writing another book set in Paris!!! (So I guess you can say that this book has been on my TBR since then?)
Anyways, back to my review: I enjoyed reading this book even more than Kiss Me in New York!
So, just like in the author's last book, this one centers around two teens experiencing some kind of pain: the death of her father for Serena, and the rejection of a family member for Jean-Luc. And I'm just going to say this once: why is it that whenever a parent is dead in YA it's the result of a car accident?
Continuing on though: I LOVED SERENA AND JEAN-LUC AS A COUPLE SO MUCH <3
For one, they both had a shared interest in photography! Well, I guess it wasn't really an interest for Serena so much as a longing to give her mother the perfect gift, but still, this played out so well in the book! Serena just wanted to see the sites for the album, but Jean-Luc was right there to show her the error of her doing so. It was unbelievably adorable how they balanced each other out!
And probably my favorite part about the book? How well Catherine Rider described Paris!!! I actually went to Paris a year ago and saw pretty much all of the sites mentioned, and the descriptions were so accurate. It was truly amazing for me to be able to visualize everything so clearly nearly a year after I'd been there.
Overall? This was a fantastic follow-up book. Easily four-and-a-half stars, and I hope the author continues writing more books in this series!
And PS, for all you Anna and the French Kiss lovers? Try this book out instead. I promise you that you will like it ten times better!
What I wanted to read was a sweet, cute romantic story set in Paris. What I got was an annoying set of characters who are all very selfish and fairly ridiculous.
The Lead Characters
Considering how few characters are actually in Kiss Me in Paris it’s surprising how much I manage to hate all of them. Our lead man has potential but seems to be too hyper focused on a grade for a class project than on the people and life around him.
That said, next to our leading lady the lead man looks amazing. Not only is our lead gal really annoying, she’s hyper sensitive to everything and anything. Now some will tell me I’m not being fair and that many people handle grief differently... and I will say ok. And then I’ll intervene with a but and explain that there is being organized and having a goal and then there is just flat out neurotic. I wanted to send our lead girl to some major counselling almost every single page.
Details
There are a lot of little details that bugged me during Kiss Me in Paris‘ story. Let’s start with, who goes to a city they’ve never been for only a day and a half?! Seriously she thought she’d hit like 10 major spots in Paris in just over a day? This is so outrageous it borders on comedic. I realize that is part of the point being made but it went way too far.
The sporadic use of French and only sometimes translating or paraphrasing bugged me. Now this could be because I’m bilingual (English & French). However, I think even if it had been a language I didn’t know the random drop of words would have bothered me. In particular I cannot believe that the narrative of our lead gal thinks to herself things like ‘street, or rue as they call it here’. Like what even is that? No one thinks like that. I wouldn’t think about going to the bathroom in London and on the way say to myself “going to the bathroom, or the loo as they call it”. It’s absurd.
Paris
The best part of Kiss me in Paris are the descriptions of the city that Catherine Rider has researched and/o experienced herself. While I’ve not yet been to Paris I can say that it’s easy to verify things like: what other paintings are in the Mona Lisa room, what’s across the street from Moulin Rouge and what type of light shows happen at the Eiffel Tour in December. All of these places and events are accurately portrayed in the story and really make me want to go to Paris! As if I didn’t already want to go there. I felt as though I was walking the streets at some points and for this sole reason I have raised my rating to 2 stars. I’ll give Rider credit for not making up locations or sights and for keeping them in their appropriate locations.
Overall
This really didn’t hit the romantic sweet spot I was hoping for. Maybe because I judge romance books harshly, as they are always all the same; or maybe because it was just not my kind of people as the lead characters. Regardless I’d say, unless you’re dying to read a book set in Paris, there are other better tourism romances out there.
Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.
This book could be read without reading the first one - although I would highly suggest reading in order. I did not enjoy it quite as much as the first novel in the series, but still cute and a nice way to compete the stories. Love the setting!
