I love Melinda Leigh's books!
They are punchy, action packed with a hint of romance running through that keeps it going.
This one didn't disappoint, it had a bit of history with one of the main characters, I was wondering all the way through how it would work out in the end.. .
I will recommend this one to women who like a crime drama with a bit of grit but no gore.
Thanks to Netgalley, Melinda Leigh, keep them coming, and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of What I've Done by Melinda Leigh. This is the fourth book in the Morgan Dane series and can be read as a stand alone but much better when read in sequence. Morgan and her partner, Lance's new case comes to them through Lance's PI partner, Lincoln Sharp. When he was a cop, Lincoln's partner was killed in the line of duty and he widow seeks him out after many years to ask him to help her daughter Haley who has been accused of murder. Haley woke up alone in a strange house with no memory of the night before and finds the man she was talking to at the bar stabbed to death in the backyard and blood all over her hands and clothes. Her first thought is what have I done?
This book continues with Morgan being a strong woman, a widow with 3 children, living with her grandfather and starting a new relationship with her partner Lance. The main focus of the books has been solving the crime and the romance has been slowly developing over time, which is a nice change. The story develops using lots of clues, suspense, suspects and evidence that eventually lead Morgan, Lance and Lincoln to the truth. A great addition to the series.
WHAT I'VE DONE by Melinda Leigh. Well, once again, Ms. Leigh has written a thrilling mystery that is filled with twists and turns and surprises, and all the while, filled with danger and suspense as well. Morgan and Lance and Sharp are back, this time to help someone from Sharp's past. What a twisted story - my heart felt for Haley yet evidence is a hard thing to dispute. Morgan and Lance certainly have their work cut out for them in this one. Ms. Leigh starts the book off with a Pow! My head hurt for Morgan and my heart hurt for Lance - his love is evident in how he wants to protect her. It is so sweet. I enjoyed the interactions with Morgan's children and grandfather too. Overall, Ms. Leigh has successfully written another suspenseful tale that kept me on the edge of my seat and flipping each page, holding my breath to find out who done it! (received ARC for honest review)
I always love Morgan Dane books, and this one was no exception! Fast-paced, interesting, and I am loving the continuing developing relationship with Lance. I will always read anything Melinda Leigh puts out, I just love the characters and the writing style. Thank you so much for allowing me to read the next entry in one of my favorite series!
I'm a huge fan of Melinda Leigh and I've read all of her books to date and I've loved every single book. This is the 4th book in the Morgan Dane series and this is my favourite. Haley picks up a date at the bar on a night out and wakes up in his bedroom the next morning to find she is naked and covered in blood and she has no idea where she is and she has absolutely no recollection of the night before. Haley's father was a very good friend of PI Lincoln Sharp's partner and he was killed in the line of duty with Lincoln Sharp and so when he asks Morgan Dane to take on the case as a personal favour to him for Haley's mother Morgan can't refuse but she has her work cut out for her as the evidence against Haley is damming and as Haley has no recollection of the night in question she can't be sure herself that she is innocent!
This is my favourite of the Morgan Dane series so far and while you can read them as standalone's I highly recommend reading them in order to get the maximum enjoyment out of them!
Thank you very much to NetGalley and Melinda Leigh for the ARC of What I've Done my review is honest and unbiased in anyway.
This was a fairly decent murder/mystery book, but I question why in the world it's in the romance category? Other than the last 2-3 pages of the book, there is no romance, no love story in this book. The main couple is already together in the start of the book, so their relationship really doesn't develop throughout the book.
The mystery part of the story was good, though there were a LOT of side characters so things got a little confusing.
In Melinda Leigh's "What I've Done", the fourth installment in the Morgan Dane romantic suspense series, this gripping novel would take you on a wild and dangerous ride. It all started when Haley Powell had awakened in a puddle of blood and in a land of confusion. Then she was accused of killing Noah Carter, her date for the night. For Morgan Dane, a lawyer, a widow, and a single mother of three young girls, she had just been assigned to the case, courtesy of her friend Lincoln Sharp, who works for her law firm. After she had been decked by her former client when he didn't want to make a deal, she had taken some hard knocks. And then she took Haley's case and learned more about Haley's past and also about the victim's past. She encountered a couple of protesters, death threats, and plenty of scare tactics that included thrown rocks at Lance's car. Some people would do anything to throw the suspicion off themselves and cause the innocent a scare or two. For Morgan, and her boyfriend, Lance Kluger, her investigator for her firm, they look into the hard evidence from Haley's ex to Noah's best friends. From there, they connected the dots to the recent missing persons case in the news and one from the past. And like it or not, they would tooth and nail to clear her name, and would stop for nothing in a life and death manner.

Scarlett Falls - Present Day
She woke up, naked, confused and covered in blood. She can’t recall exactly where she is or what happened the night before. She stumbles through the house and follows a trail of blood out the door and finds the body of Noah Carter, the man she recalls meeting in a bar the night before. Now Noah is dead, and Haley Powell has no idea what happened. And all she can think is “What have I done?”
Lincoln Sharp is a retired police officer and now works as a private detective. When the widow of Ted Powell, his former partner arrives on his doorstep, he recognizes her immediately. Though it’s been years since he has seen Eliza Powell, the sight of her brings back the painful memories of Ted’s death. Eliza tells Lincoln she needs his help. Her daughter has been arrested for murder, but Eliza is sure there is no way Haley could have committed the crime.
Morgan Dane, former prosecutor, turned defense attorney, is beginning to second guess her choice of careers since her current client is a lying slime ball, who is guilty as hell. When Morgan confronts her client with his prior arrests in another state, information provided by Lance Kruger, her boyfriend and Sharp's partner, things gets ugly and her client assaults Morgan in the courtroom. Before anyone can intervene, Morgan has been knocked senseless.
After a visit to the emergency room with Lance, Morgan is diagnosed with a mild concussion and rest is recommended. However, before Morgan and Lance reach home, Sharp calls and asks Morgan to take Haley on as a client. After explaining that Haley has been held for two days, and needs medication, Morgan heads for the police department.
WHAT I’VE DONE is a highly suspenseful novel of murder. But the above is just the bare bones of the novel. There are a lot of things going on under the surface. When Morgan and Lance are threatened the suspense and tension ratchet up.
This is the fourth book in the Morgan Dane series, and is filled with fascinating characters. While I have not read the previous novels (yet) I had no problem immersing myself in WHAT I’VE DONE. Although this is a series, the author does a fabulous job of defining the characters without bogging down the story. So those not familiar with the series will have no problem connecting with and understanding the characters and their motivations.
WHAT I’VE DONE will hook the reader from the first page and never let go. With well-developed characters, a fast pace and an intense plot, readers with love this high octane, multi-layered novel of suspense.

What I've Done is the 4th book in the Morgan Dane series by Melinda Leigh. Morgan agrees to take on a case at the request of her partner Lincoln, even though she is going through a difficult time in her personal life. Morgan and her team set out to try and prove Haley innocent in a murder case. This book is suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat while reading. I didn't expect many of the twists and that made the story that much better. I can't wait to see what the next installment in this series brings.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the author, Melinda Leigh, for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of What I've Done in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
I found the storyline to be well thought out and fast paced with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. A fantastic page Turner.
Definitely well worth a read.
Melinda Leigh’s Morgan Dane is one hell of a strong smart female character. In What I’ve Done, Morgan and the men of Sharp Investigations are out to clear a young woman of murder. In this installment there are plenty of twist, turns and red herrings to have kept me involved until the end. This book isn’t as fraught with danger as the last Morgan Dane book, but not every case can be that high of an adrenaline rush. Lincoln Sharp takes a premiere role, which I loved. I really enjoy Leigh’s series and the narrator brought this book up a half star.
Now to my problems with the book, Leigh’s editors failed her as there are a few timeline continuity mistakes. Mistakes like these truly befuddle me, as how can you miss such glaring errors. Maybe it’s because I struggled to read growing up and I fought hard for the privilege. A continuity error is like a glaring neon sign that flashes, editor did not read entire book. Come on Amazon, you are the premiere book seller in the land, your publishing arm should be tops too.
(It should be noted I received ARC via Netgalley, read ARC, borrowed via Kindle Unlimited on release day, re-read/listened to book and errors were still in the published book.)
The book does still get four stars from me as I truly love Scarlet Falls and the characters that inhabit the fictional town. Plus a love story between not just two people Morgan and Lance, but an entire family is wonderful.
Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.
Absolutely, totally fantastic. Taunt, edge of your seat suspense with a plot that has you going in all the wrong directions. "What I've Done" is all I could ever want in a mystery-suspense, and then some. I love Melinda Leigh. I've not read a bad book by her and they just keep getting better and better. This book can be read as a standalone, but the whole series and especially this book has my highest recommendation.
When Haley wakes up, disoriented, sick, naked and covered in blood, she soon discovers the body of a man she knows and liked. "What have I done?" Since Haley has no memory, only flashes, of the night before, could she have killed Noah? Haley is the child of Lincoln Sharp's partner who was killed in the line of duty 25 years ago. Morgan Dane takes the case and she and Lance Kruger set out to build a defense in a case that looks really, really bad for their client
With Morgan and Lance gathering information and developing an alternative theory of the murder the real killer is on a rampage to stop them and the only thing that will stop this murderer is eternity in the fires of Hell.
Very good read! Alot of twist and turns, and surprises along the way. A who dunnit book that will keep you guessing till the end. I found this book captured my attention from page one and it never got boring.
In typical fashion Melinda has yet another amazing book! Thrilling, exciting- the pages and story kept me edge!
What I’ve Done is the second in this series, following Bones Don’t Lie, and while I had some issues with that one which kept me from really enjoying it, I can happily report this one didn’t have the same issues. I thoroughly enjoyed spending a lot more time in Morgan’s PoV this time around, figuring out the whodunnit along with her and her business partners, Lance and Sharp.
What I’ve Done begins with a young woman named Haley waking alone in an unfamiliar bed. Realising she may have had too much to drink the night before and gone home with someone she didn’t intend to, she’s planning to do a walk of shame when she realises to her horror that she’s covered in blood and there is a dead man on the ground.
Morgan is brought in as Haley’s defence attorney by her mother, an old connection of Sharp’s, and the team immediately start working on the case. There are heaps of red herrings, genuine leads, and twists and turns for the investigative trio to work through, and soon enough they’re breathing down the neck of the real culprit… which puts a massive target on all of them.
There’s plenty of suspense to go around, and some nice progression in Morgan and Lance’s romantic relationship for those who’ve been fans of this series from the beginning. A new character introduced feels like a potential love interest for Sharp as well, which I’d like to see. He’s too nice a guy not to be snapped up by some smart lady!
Five stars for an engaging, suspenseful read and a great addition to this series.
What I’ve Done was a fantastic read with an intriguing case for Morgan and Co. to solve and some great development for the characters.
As a favor to her friend Lincoln Sharp, Morgan Dane agrees to take the case of Haley Powell, a woman accused of stabbing a man to death. The case against Haley is solid, she was covered in the victim’s blood, her fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and she has no memory of the night of the attack. Despite all of the evidence, Morgan can’t help but feel Haley is being framed. As Morgan, Lance, and Lincoln dig into the case it becomes clear someone is determined to stop their investigation at all costs.
Haley’s case was an interesting one from the start as you’re as much in the dark about what happened as Haley is. It was great learning the details as she did and she was a character that was easy to empathize with. I did guess the direction the case ended up going but there were still plenty of surprises along the way. One of my favorite things about this series is how well the author delivers on the motives behind the crimes. She has a great way of getting you invested in the cases and includes enough twists to keep you guessing.
At the start of the book, Morgan is involved in an incident with a client she was defending from an attempted murder charge. After the incident, Morgan’s confidence in herself is shaken and she’s left wondering if she made the right choice by changing sides from prosecutor to defense attorney. Due to her doubts, Morgan relies more heavily on Lance in this book as she’s physically and mentally not up to doing everything. One of my favorite aspects of Morgan and Lance’s relationship is how incredibly supportive he is of her and how much they obviously trust and care about each other. There is some great development in their relationship in this book and I’m excited to see where things go for them.
We learn more about Sharp’s past in this book which was great to finally get as we don’t know too much about him until this point. I enjoyed learning more about him as it definitely helped me have a better idea of who he is. Lance’s mother returns to help with the technological side of the case and I was happy to see her and learn how she was dealing with the events of the last book. Morgan’s family makes numerous appearances and I really do love their family dynamic. I particularly enjoy Lance’s interactions with Morgan’s daughters.
What I’ve Done is my favorite book of the series so far and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for these characters in the next book, Secrets Never Die, out in March 2019.
What a Great Book !!! I loved taking the journey with Morgan and Lance to find the person who is committing murder in Randolph County. Just when I thought I knew who was to blame, things changed and new suspects creeped in. There are many twists and turns to this action packed story. I loved how I never really new what was going to happen next or who was to blame. Very well written with intriguing and well developed characters. I highly recommend What I've Done !!!
I've been reading the Morgan Dane books for a while now, and I've enjoyed every one of them. They just keep building on one another and getting better and better with each installment. This one though, has to be my favorite to date, it was that good!
The biggest complaint I have was with the client in the beginning of the book. I couldn't figure out what he had to do with the overall story, and wound up classifying him as a red herring. That didn't mar my enjoyment of the book, however! The case was very interesting, and had lots of twists and turns in it. I loved the bits of romance thrown in as well! It was the perfect thing to read after finishing the latest In Death novel, which left me craving more!
I highly recommend this series!
Another fantastic book in the Morgan Dane series. Thanks goes to the publisher, via Net-Galley, for the chance to read and review this outstanding book. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
What a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed this new exciting book by Ms. Leigh. The characters are intriguing, the plot is gripping. I always know I'm in for a treat with one of Ms. Leigh's romantic thrillers.
Morgan is a great character with plenty of heart and determination. She's a wonderful mother to her children and looks after her grandfather with tender care. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing her relationship with Lance Kruger develop. In each book, it only grows stronger.
Lane is my kind of hero. An all-around good guy who seeks justice with honor. He watches over his mentally-ill mother without hovering. His deepening love for Morgan and her children touched my heart.
The romance between Morgan and Lance continues, bringing them closer as this next case must be solved to not only save the client but protect them as well. This one has a great mystery and a surprising climax.
If you haven’t read the other books in this awesome series, then you are missing out! If you are looking for a book that will grab you from the first page and keep you held in its thrall until the last word, then you will love What I’ve Done. I highly recommend this excellent book. Happy reading!
'What I've Done' is the fourth novel to feature former prosecutor Morgan Dane by No. 1 Amazon charts bestseller Melinda Leigh. Having thoroughly enjoyed the preceding three books, I decided to go ahead and read a copy of this. I am so glad I did! This series just keeps getting better and better. I didn't think Leigh could possibly outdo herself but she most certainly has. Knowing there are at least another two books to come, I will be keeping an eye out for them that's for sure. I would recommend that you read the previous books before embarking on this one as I don't feel it works particularly well as a standalone, and if you're about to join the series through this book you may be pretty perplexed as you have none of the essential background needed to properly appreciate the novel.
Romantic suspense is not a genre I usually read, so this is one of a few forays I have had and actually enjoyed. I normally read crime thrillers as I don't particularly like romance. This is a riveting, action-packed series, and this book is no exception. In fact, I would go as far as to say that it is very close to having too much happening. There are twists and surprises aplenty, and the focus on forensics, and the slow reveal of clues added an authenticity to the whole story. There is just the right amount of suspects to keep the reader guessing right up until you turn the final pages. One of the most enjoyable aspects is the relationship between Morgan and Private Investigator Lance. They work really well together, and you can see the mutual respect they have for each other emanating from the pages. Morgan, Lance and second P. I. Lincoln Sharp are each likeable and affable characters, so it is easy to connect with them and get behind them in whatever case they are looking to solve. I look forward to seeing how their relationship evolves in the upcoming books. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Montlake Romance for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
