As a country music lover, I've followed Joey and Rory for many years. After her death, I thought he would fade away. Who knew he could write books, especially children's books. I read through this book with my 5 year old niece, then she read it to me, three times. I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a new favorite.
This is a cute book about barnyard animals. Each wishes to be another animal. The cow a horse, the horse a duck, the duck a sheep, the sheep a pig, the pig a dog, the dog a cat, the cat a farmer. They all start making the sounds of the animal they want to be. This wakes up the farmer and he decides he wants to be a cow. So it goes full circle. Great way to teach animal sounds to the young ones. Illustrations are very vivid and colorful. Very good book for bedtime story for ages 2-4.
This was really cute and I think small children will get a kick out of all the farm animals saying the wrong things! I think my son is yet too young to get it though - we're just now working on the correct sounds :-) I also loved the illustrations - nice big animals with solid colors with just enough background details.
My children thought that this book was delightful, and I have to agree with them! This is a cute little story that is a lot of fun for all ages.
The Cow Said Neigh by Rory Feek is an absolutely gorgeous children's book.
I don't know what I liked more.
The illustrations which are simply beautiful, likable and friendly expressions or the lovely and funny story about silly farm animals.
It's a strange day on the farm when all animals look at each other and wish they are someone else. The cow wants to be a horse and starts to neigh, the horse wants to be a duck and it starts to quack and so on.
Perfectly adorable read for both very young and slightly older readers who can familiarize with farm animals, get to know them better, learn sounds that they make and enjoy some laugh.
High praise!
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this eBook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Adorable illustrations and rhyming text, this mixed up story will make your toddlers and preschoolers laugh out loud! Highly recommended as both a lap read one-on-one and as a group read aloud!
The Cow Said Neigh!

What an adorable book to read with your little ones. My three year old and I enjoyed learning the animal sounds and pretending what we would want to be if we could. We listed some pros and cons of what why we would want to be a different animal. It was also a good test for learners who don't know their animal sounds quite yet. The pictures were bright and fun as well. We enjoyed all the animals and their expressions.
Absolutely loved this book! This a must read for those with small children. My boys (8,6,3) all laughed at the simple story. I will purchase this book upon its release!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Farm animals making the wrong sounds always give preschoolers a hoot. This one uses rhyming to move the story along. Cute read.
Cute little book for young pre-schoolers (0-2 years of age). Each animal sees the benefits of the other animals and wishes to be like them. Lots of opportunity to work on farm animal noises with young ones.
Toddlers and young preschoolers will find the mixed up animal sounds hilarious. Feek's song-writing background comes out in a consistent rhythm and rhymes that aren't forced. My only complaint: I wish the pictures, which are fine, were more original; there's nothing that makes them stand out. Review based on an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley.
A delightfully illustrated book about all the animals on the farm that want to be like each other.
Preschool and kindergarten alike will love that the animals are all saying the wrong sounds.
A fun read with great rhyming.
Thanks to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson for the advance copy.
The Cow Said Neigh is a cute twist on an animal sounds book. We travel around the farmyard meeting animal after animal but they aren't saying what they are supposed to! Each one wonders what it would be like to be a different animal and imitates that animals sounds. This would be a fun read aloud that will definitely illicit giggles from young readers. I do wish a little more thought had been put into Duck though, he doesn't really have a reason why he wants to be a sheep and simply says "That would be good."
It's a very cute story about a group of farm animals who are very confused. They are imitate another animal and confuse the farmer. The illustrations are the best part of this story. There's not much substance to the book and no real lesson to learn. This book is perfect for the younger kids as they will love reading about the animals making sounds they shouldn't be making.
Full review on Goodreads. It was a simple text with rhyme and cute illustrations, but I did not see anything very appealing or fun in the story. It is not a book that would stand out on my child's shelf. Nothing wrong with it, just nothing to wow me.
This is a fun little picture book that will be a real hit with kids who love silly rhyming stories. We start out with a cow who thinks the horse lives in greener pastures, so decides to try on the horse's voice.
Then the horse sees a duck, and the duck sees a sheep, and so it continues as we check in on the various animals you'd expect to find on a farm. The playful rhymes follow a good pattern and I know a few kids who would love yelling out the animal noises at the right times.
The illustrations are amusing and this would be a fun little read for preschoolers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson: CHILDREN'S for providing me with a DRC of this book.
The Cow Said Neigh! is a super cute book. I recommend it for all young readers. I give it five plus stars.
Really cute picture book. Great illustrations showing the animals around the farm, and the rhyming story tells how each animal admires and wishes for a trait one of the others has. Could be very fun to read aloud and do different voices for the animals, and I think both the story and the illustrations will engage children well.
I really like the illustrations in this humorous picture book. I think it will be enjoyed by very young children.
This was a cute children's book. My kids enjoyed the story. They liked the rhyming and the pictures of the book. I enjoyed the rhythm of the story when reading it. I felt like the story ended too abruptly. I was looking for the farmer to redirect the animals to be themselves and realize that their lives were better than the animal they were pretending to be. I think that the message that comes across is that it's okay to pretend to be somebody else and not be content with who we are. Overall, the pictures added to the story and the lyrical words were enjoyable.
