Chock full of suspense, The Affair falls between a thriller and a drama. As the title states, one of our characters, Alicia, had an affair and it is now coming back to haunt them when the man she had the affair with reenters their lives. There are some small twists and not everything is as it seems (isn't this always the case?), leading The Affair to be an entertaining read.
was a gripping thriller that took you to every aspect of trying to figure out what was really going on and what was going to happen next! This was such an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what else is released from this author!
Really enjoyed reading this book. Lots of twists and turns in the storyline. Interesting characters in there too. All very good and easy to read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. This was a predictable thriller. The plot was well written though.
Alicia has been keeping a secret for nearly seventeen years but after a devastating accident, the truth emerges. Can her family forgive her and can she protect them now the cat is out of the bag?
This is my second Sheryl Browne novel and I very much doubt it will be my last! She's really nailed the formula for a domestic/psychological thriller. Whilst there aren't too many gasps out loud twists the story gallops along at an exciting pace that makes it very hard to put down. Be prepared to read in on sitting!
A brilliant psychological thriller which keep me on the edge of my seat. I can thinking I knew what was going to happen and then boy was I wrong. Really enjoyed it.
Wow!!! What a great book. Full of twists and turns. Loved it. I thought I had figured it all out but I hadn’t.
I loved the description of this, I really did - who doesn’t like the idea of secrets and lies in books? But reading it was a different matter. Yes it was dramatic and emotional, but it was ultimately disappointing. As for Alicia, she was so irritating and she drove me mad! This is just my opinion but I know lots of other people will love this story and it will be a best seller.
Whilst this wasn't entirely predictable, it was predictable to an extent. To an extent i just wanted it to end. You just knew that <spoiler>Paul</spoiler> was creepy AF and <spoiler>the sister? Always providing a shoulder for Justin?</spoiler> How obvious was that?
All in all what was a great premise, faltered and fell flat, where it could have been amazing.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was just ok. I expected more from it but it seemed to just be another typical basic suspenseful story about an affair.
I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

2.5 stars.
This was somewhere between just OK and Good. Unfortunately I found too much of it was rather slow. The story as a whole though was quite good, and there were parts that really grabbed my attention. I'd had most of the twists figured out probably before I was ment to so none of them came as a surprise to me. So im not sure what the shocking twist was ment to be. Was this badly written? No. No not at all. I can see how others would enjoy it more than I did, but this just wasn't for me. Though, having said that, I am glad I read it.
Awesome read, loved the story and couldn't put down. Glad I read this and was able to find a new author I enjoy.
This is my first book by this author, and it’s one that I enjoyed. The blurb sounded like a thriller, although I don’t think I would categorize it like that. It was more of an emotional read, with less emphasis on being suspenseful and more on characters overcoming emotional challenges and developing.
This novel does cover some tough themes, including kidnapping, drugging, rape, adultery, and death. If any of that might disturb you, this isn’t a good match for you. However, if you can read tough themes and still enjoy the experience, I’d definitely recommend this one.
I liked this book but didn't love it - I felt like some of the twists were good, I got teary-eyed more than once (but didn't REALLY connect with any of the characters) - but my overall issue was that so many of the plot lines revolved around the characters not communicating AT ALL. It was implausible at times and downright ridiculous at others that people simply chose not to speak to each other or pick up a phone or send a text. For that reason, 3 stars. Overall the story was good and there was a bit of suspense, but very little heart-pounding "what's going to happen?" type of action.
My first read by Sheryl Browne and I really enjoyed it. Thank you to Sheryl Browne, Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. Justin is a doctor and Alicia a social worker. They have two children, Sophie and Lucas. There are a lot of secrets, deceit, lies and cover ups in Justin and Alicia's perfect marriage due to one major event. The story is told from a few viewpoints, mainly Justin and Alicia, but also Sophie their teenage daughter who seems to also be affected by the current situation.. .I enjoyed the general storyline thread in this book and loved waiting to see how the the story would unfold - I was not expecting the ending!
3.5 Stars
I enjoyed The Affair, it was well written and a great story. The only negative, is the book was a tad predictable. It didn’t take away from the story for me, but I took a half star off because of the predictability.
I look forward to reading another book by this author, I would recommend this book if you like psychological thrillers!
I really wanted to read this book all the way through but it was so disjointed and the characters were unimpressive. I gave up after a third way in.
Ah The Affair....titles can be deceiving! After a horrific accident that kills their son, a family is grieving but also grieving for the life they thought they knew. And “the why” horrible things continue to happen after the accident are slowly revealed. I genuinely enjoyed the story over all, but feel it was slow to build even with all the action at the start. Perhaps it was the lack of back story of Justin’s sad past but I found parts of the book jumbled. Timely subject matter for the character of Alicia, and a suitable reaction for Sophie the teenaged daughter, but a bit over the top.
But it is a book and the story had to take us somewhere to get to our conclusion. Having said all this, I liked it enough to go back and purchase Sheryl Browne’s first novel which I am connecting with.
"...love could drive a person to acts of despair or even madness...cold-blooded murder might have its basis in love, or unrequited love."
More a family drama than a thriller, this book touches the on familiar theme of deceit. Alicia is married to Justin and they have two children, a teenage daughter, Sophie, and a newborn son, Lucas. When tragedy strikes the family, all of the lies and secrets come spilling out from unexpected sources and in very damaging fallout. NO SPOILERS but when all is said and done, the truth will be revealed and the consequences may hard to face. Can this family be saved?
A very quick read with a few surprises but if you read books in this genre, you won't be far off the mark if you predict what is likely to happen early on in the book. The narrative shifts between the points of view of Alicia, Justin and Sophie and the story is easy to follow. There is a lot of internal angsting going on in the narration and plenty of blame to go around between the main characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
Great book. Full of twists and suspense. I got emotionally involved with the characters. Absolutely would recommend it.
