This was a great book. The story was captivating and kept me interested throughout. Can’t wait for more from this author.
Wow! One of the best psychological thrillers I have read this year. I couldn’t put it down. There were a couple of surprises and one I really didn’t see coming. The different narratives moved smoothly from one to the other and totally worked. I can’t praise it enough. You must read this book!
Really enjoyed this book and enjoyed all of the characters. It's a bit of a dark read with a focus of deceit and betrayal (no great surprise from the title!), which goes way beyond the affair. It made me want to keep reading, especially with the short chapters. Very well written and I can't wait to read from the author in the future.
THE AFFAIR by Sheryl Browne great suspense novel. This is the first novel of Browne's books that I have read and I can't wait to read more of her novels.
A dark tale of obsession and deceit. Sheryl Browne’s The Affair will have you on the edge of your seat. How far will a father go to find his daughter and punish her kidnapper.
A deliciously creepy read filled with plot twists and suspense. I couldn't help but become emotionally invested in these characters. Nothing is as it seems! A big thank you to #netgalley for introducing me to #SherylBrowne, I cannot wait to read more of her books. #bookuouture
I love this author's books and this one was no exception!!
The characters in this book are great, well developed and they work so well together. I loved their interaction and it definitely had me guessing.
It is very well written and had me gripped right from the first few pages, the plot is excellent, I was completely hooked and I loved the ending - it is completely brilliant!
5 stars from me - absolutely fantastic!!
Sheryl Browne is becoming one of my favourite authors. After reading her last thriller The Babysitter, I was so excited to see that new one is coming out soon.
First of all, eye catching covers are what definitely worked for me. I’m not proud of it but I do judge the book by it’s cover a lot and this one was an instant winner.
Thrillers being my favourite genre to read, I have read a lot of them and they tend to get a bit repetitive. I’m so pleased that Sheryl found a way how to still keep me on my toes and make me turn page by page with a thrill and excitement.
Lies are always a good base for the story, but when you try to fix the lie with yet some more lies, it can’t end well. I loved this story, although we knew from the beginning that the affair will be the main part of the story, this book had so much more going on. Touched some very sensitive subjects and got me very emotionally involved in the story. I basically had to read it until the end, no matter what plans I’ve had.
I really hope Sheryl Brown has more of these stories up her sleeve, because her writing style and sense for suspense are quite addictive. I can recommend this book and this author to anyone who hasn’t had a chance yet to experience her writing.
Alicia sees a familiar face from her past at a party, a face that could destroy her "perfect" life. She is keeping secrets and now has to tell more lies to cover up ones she has already told.
This book started out sad, with the death of Alicia's son. I could almost physically feel the pain in my chest as a read on to how they tried to cope with such a devastating loss.
Overall I felt that the book was slow in places, but kept me reading on.
Thank you to Sheryl Browne, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Alicia isn't who her husband thinks she is. But she isn't who you think she is either- a regular, devoted wife and mother of two. She has secrets. She does everything in her power to protect her family from them, but some things can't be protected, and sometimes, the truth comes out in a very twisted and unfortunate way. Sometimes when secrets come out, we learn that we were part of the secret and we didn't even know it.
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was so much more than just an affair. This was a book of lying, mind games, deceit, and holy geeze- a mother's worst nightmare... times two. It is really difficult to speak too in depth without spoiling anything, but I can tell you that I was emotionally exhausted after reading this one and trying to figure out how all of the pieces fit. If you're a lover of psychological thrillers, there are a couple predictable twists, but there were a couple sneaky surprises as well. Nice work, Browne.
Enjoyed this fast paced, tense psychological thriller. Thanks to publisher and Netgalley for the advanced reading copy.
An enjoyable read with plenty of twists and turns alongside the way. A well written tense, and emotional storyline. My only criticism is that the book was a little drawn out in places. Overall a good read and will definitely read more by this author.
Noty really sure whether I enjoyed this or not - I would put it squarely into the category of domestic thriller,
I loved this book. Excellent - couldn't put this one down. Kept me Intrigued all the way till the end. Will be looking for more from this author for sure.
This book is about so much more than just an affair, there is a death, a disappearance, lies, and betrayal. Then there's the psychopath in town. A good, fast-paced, suspenseful read.
This book starts out quite intriguingly but then the story turns very sad when the couple's baby is killed in a car accident. Unfortunately I found this to be a bit too sad and while I can say without hesitation that this book is well written and most likely a fabulous read, I could not persevere and I chose to put it down unfinished. The author perfectly captured the grief the family felt and that is truly a testament to her excellent writing.
Spoiler Alert: This book might make you cry.
I know, I know. It's a psychological thriller. Psychological thrillers aren't supposed to make you cry. They're supposed to chill you, scare you, but not to make you cry.
The story begins with the death of a 6 month old baby. And the way Sheryl Browne wrote the chapters following his death, as his family coped with it? They'll definitely make you cry.
Once you're done crying and all, the thriller aspects start cropping up, and the story just gets better and better.
With Alicia trying to keep a secret and Julian trying to protect his daughter, and blaming himself for his son's death, The Affair was a rollercoaster of emotions.
My favourite character has got to be Julian, because damn it if I can find a real person who's that good, inside and out. He was so unbelievably amazing that it left me in awe of him. He's the kind of dad every girl deserves. You know how they say that every girl's super hero is her dad? Well, Julian is that super hero.
Okay, I'll stop now. But you should go on and click that link below and buy this book this instant, because you need to read it!
Oh WOW !! I was hooked from the very beginning of this book. Gripping from the start and I thought I had it all figured out, but I was wrong. . And even the twist at the end threw me. I thoroughly recommend this book
One lie told so many years ago- little did Alicia realise how that would come back & destroy her world years later.
Alicia was delighted with her baby son, born somany years after his sister Sophie. Her family happiness was complete. She loved Justin her doctor husband, had a good relationship with her teenage daughter. They were comfortably off & she enjoyed her work as a social worker with children. A chance meeting at a party with Paul, an old flame, threatens everything.
I loved this book. I was totally involved with the three main characters whilst disliking Paul intensely & rather dubious about the helpful sister. I was just rooting for everything to work out in the end. Difficult to sy to much without spoilers, so I'll just recommend you read it!
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read this book.
This was definitely a gripping Psychological Thriller. It had me teary eyed in the beginning but once the story unfolded more I couldn’t put it down. This book is chalked full of fear, lies, betrayal, and the ultimate crime done just to get revenge and to protect a family. I would definitely recommend this book.
