Restless cowpoke Perley Gates wanted nothing more than to track down the grandfather who abandoned his family years ago. What he found was the crazy old sidewinder barely hanging on after a Sioux massacre. The old man's dying wish was to make things right for deserting his kin--by giving his strong-willed grandson Perley clues to the whereabouts of a buried fortune in gold.
Finding his grandfather's legacy will set up his family for life. But it won't be easy. The discovery of raw gold in the Black Hills has lured hordes of ruthless lowlifes into Deadwood and Custer City--kill-crazy prairie rats, gunfighters, outlaws, and Indians--armed with a thousand glittering reasons to put Perley six feet under. All Perley wants is what was left to him, what he's owed. But with so many brigands on his backside, finding his grandfather's treasure is going to land Perley Gates between the promise of heaven and the blood-soaked battlefields of hell . . .

Thanks to Netgalley I was able to read the second book in a series I'm reading , and it was because of them i actually started this series to begin with, i though the first book was good but this one is way better then the first one, which goes to show that series will just keep getting better and better , right from the start I was pulled in to and didn't want to stop reading at all, which always happens when it comes to William W.Johnstone books, because no matter what the series is when it comes to their westerns , their just old fashioned stories told where the characters come to life , think like the old black and white western movies . Once again I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it
Thrilling story with a plot that kept me turning the pages, really well written with great characters. Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre.
I am in love with Perley Gates! This is one of the best Johnstone books! There is so much excitement in this book and Perley is the toughest cowboy I know.
With a name like Perley Gates, you know he's a good guy! The Johnstones have written so many great westerns, you would think they would run out of ideas. Let's hope not! While even the best western story has lots of guns and violence, their books also have a clear line between the good guys and the bad guys and lots of interesting characters along the way. It's very easy to become engrossed with their stories, following the individual families and cheering when they save the day. I would not hesitate to recommend any of the Johnstone books to someone looking for a good read.
