This was DNF, just wasn't for me just couldn't get into it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher
Sofia and Ethan's story in Twilight Desires by Amanda Ashley had me whipping through the pages as if a Vampire was on my tale. I thoroughly enjoyed the mysteriousness and the sizzling romance in this story and would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great story with plenty of bite.
I always love a good vampire romance and this book did not disappoint. I am excited to go back and read the first 2 books in this series! I enjoyed her writing style and the way she game Ethan and Sofia such great chemistry
I received this e-book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Ethan never wanted to become a Vampire but he was attacked and turned. He despises what he is although he is nothing like he thinks he is.
Sofia used to have an infatuation with Vampires until her family was attacked. After that the infatuation was gone. She was trying to trust as she had family members who were vampires or turned to be one for their mate.
When Sofia meets Ethan she knows she has made the right decision in meeting him and yes, there is passion between them. Ethan feels the same but constantly fights with the despise he feels for himself as a vampire.
There is danger waiting though. In Morgan Creek, which his mentor Rylan owns, another vampire has decided he wants to take over and bring time back to when the vampire was the king and humans their slaves. He doesn't understand the idea of co-existing in the world with humans.
With Sofia's love and support, will Ethan realize what a good man he is? Can the evil be destroyed?
I am a fan of the authors and I did like this story. I felt like it started off a bit slow but it did pick up.
Ethan has such terrible confidence in himself, of the man he really is...a good man, loving and smart. He really has not one ounce of evil in him. He and Sofia really are made for one another. Ethan has changed due to her love and even sees a future for them but first he has to face the evil threatening to take over.
I enjoyed this story and would like to read the first 2 books!
It's been a while since I read a book by Amanda Ashley and I forget how amazing they are. Love as ll her book including this series. I highly recommend them.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I am a huge fan of this author and have been reading her books for a long time. I was very people to get a copy of this book. I love my vampires too. It is up paranormal being of choice. I have to say that I love Ethan and Sofia's story and they both have their share of problems and issues. Ethan did not want to become a vampire but it was did against his will and to say that he needs time to adjust to all of this is messed up journey. Sofia was obsessed with vampires until a vampire attack on her family changed all of that and she wanted nothing to do with them. But when she meets Ethan there is something that is almost magical and it makes her wonder if her choice if all of them are as bad as she assumed. Now if you want to know the details of what happens next you are going to have to grab a copy for yourself.
I loved this book! Sofia asked all the questions I had about being with a vampire. She may be young but she is comfortable in her own skin and knows what she wants. Ethan was a little to angsty at first but meeting Sofia cured him of that for the most part. This was a sweet and fun addition to the series. If you haven’t read the others you shouldn’t have any problems reading this stand alone.
A romantic vampire story. Sofia Ravenwood was fascinated by vampires till a member of her family was attacked by a vampire. Then she vowed to stay away from them till she met Ethen Parrish who was turned against his will. It is an enjoyable sensual read.
TWILIGHT DESIRES is the third book in Amanda Ashley's intriguing "Morgan's Creek" series about love and vampires. For background information on two of the central supporting characters, as well as the town of Morgan's Creek, readers should read AS TWILIGHT FALLS either before or after reading TWILIGHT DESIRES. TWILIGHT DREAMS features the brother of TWILIGHT DESIRES heroine Sofia Ravenwood. Morgan's Creek is a deserted former vampire-paradise-of-a-town and where reluctant vampire Ethan Parrish is cooling his heels at the opening of TWILIGHT DESIRES. Having been turned into a vampire against his will, Ethan is a brooding hero full of impotent rage and self-pity at the start of this book. After some advice from his sire Rylan Saintcrow, and a little matchmaking by his cousin, Sofia Ravenwood brings a little light and love into Ethan's life.
Sofia was fascinated by vampires until her family was terrorized by them, and her brother got turned into one. She's a little understandably cautious when her sister-in-law Holly connects her with Ethan. Ethan is happy to make any connection, and that he doesn't have to hide who he is with Sofia. When it comes to their evolving relationship, Sofia and Ethan are both conflicted even though there is a definite mutual attraction. Based on her family's experience, Sofia is worried about what being in a relationship with a vampire will entail. Ethan has a certain degree of self-loathing about his vampire state and doesn't want Sofia to suffer or miss out on typical human activities if she becomes a vampire or lives a life with one. In spite of his internal conflicts, Ethan doesn't take his moods out on Sofia and always treats her with respect and projects an affable charm. The sexual tension is epic even as this couple slowly get to know each other and build the intimacy between them.
Readers get to see a different side of master vampire Rylan Saintcrow than what was revealed when he made his appearance in AS TWILIGHT FALLS. Rylan makes no apologies for how he's lived his life, but he has grown from his recent experiences with humans. While not exactly a cuddly teddy bear, Rylan's relationship as Ethan's sire, mentor, and friend is a great aspect of this story. As Rylan can walk around during the day, he is also able to befriend Sofia and act as a sounding board for her fears. A vampire villain does appear to torment the good guys in TWILIGHT DESIRES and inject a bit of danger into the narrative. Rylan and Ethan make a good team as they match wits against their foe and act as protectors.
TWILIGHT DESIRES is an outstanding contemporary gothic tale of love and vampires. I love the way the heroic vampires in TWILIGHT DESIRES build a community and support system for each other as they physically re-build a town. Amanda Ashley provides plenty of thrills and chills in this story, but the romance and character development are never overshadowed. I look forward to Amanda Ashley's next vampire romance.
This book was a little hard for me to get into, I think it is because it has been so long since I read the last book. It was an enjoyable read though.
❤️ out of 5
This book was boring with a capital B. Did anything actually happen? Was there even a plot other than boy meets girl? Still haven’t figured that out and at 40% I didn’t want to do this was a DNF (which I feel super guilty about).
.
Our hero was turned into a vampire and he’s not really happy about it. He doesn’t know what to do with his life anymore after his change. His cousin decides to set him up with her sister-in-law who doesn’t have anything against vampires. That’s it- that’s pretty much all that happened.
.
As for the characters- they were both completely meh. The heroine is blah and boring but young (honestly 19 is too young for this), she had no opinion on anything really. The hero is also blah and boring- 7 years older than the heroine and honestly just came off as depressed. When it comes to PNR I love world building- and I got nothing- I figure some people know vampires exist? What a whole lot of meh and BORING.
Twilight Desires by Amanda Ashley is book Three in the Morgan Creek series. This is the story of
Sofia Ravenwood and Ethan Parrish. I have read the previous books (and loved them!), but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Ethan was turned into a Vampire by Rylan Saintcrow after being attached. Rylan had the choice to let him die or to turn him and choose to turn him (happened in previous book). Now Ethan is working to come to turns with this fate he didn't want. When his cousin tells him about Sofia a women that once was interested in Vampires might be the person to talk with. Ethan is filled with loneliness and a lost since their is nothing left in his previous life for him. But when he and Sofia meet their starts a spark that brings him back to wanting to mover forward...with her. But Sofia isn't only desired by him....someone else wants her too.
This was another exciting story that I couldn't put down...loved it!
Book 3 in the Morgan Creek series starts off with a bang. Written for a younger adult (early 20s) this story has the appeal for those who know how it feels to be an outsider, for those who know what it means to be shunned for something beyond their control and for those who feel lost in the wider world. With danger and action aplenty, this story has a slower beginning but drives towards the final.
Passion and excitement explodes from the pages of this thrilling traditional vampire romance as Sofia and Ethan try to overcome some traditional issues regarding vampires and some not so traditional ones. The characters are strong and convincing as they draw readers into their story as Ethan has trouble accepting what he is and has lots of worries that go along with being turned into a “monster,” while Sofia has to wonder if being with Ethan is the best thing for her and her future. This has lots of emotional turmoil that readers can understand as well as keeping them glued to the pages as they wonder if this couple will reach a happily ever after or will their difference be more than they can handle.
The plot is steady to fast paced plot and keeps readers hanging on the edge of their seat with lots of thrilling suspense as Sofia and Ethan not try to move forward but a fight with an enemy that has set his sights on Sofia and the town of Morgan Creek. This enemy takes some elaborate measures to get what he wants most of which are deadly and brings unknown elements into the mix. Which gives readers as well as Ethan and Saintcrow, quite a few surprising twists to become caught up in.
The author is instigating some changes to the town of Morgan Creek and I have to wonder where she is taking this thrilling and mesmerizing series, especially since I can imagine several different paths she could take from here which could mean more wonderfully spine tingling vampire romances to come for readers. Note: While the story may be in the more traditional style of vampire romance, it is in no way boring and readers are easily smitten and charmed by the sexy vampires of Morgan Creek.
This was a well written roller coaster ride!
It is steamy, witty and downright funny at times ... also year worthy at times.
Will Ethan finally accept being a Vampire? Will Sofia and her family get over the horrors they faced at the hands of a Vampire? Can Sofia & Ethan ever have a happily ever after?
Read it to see!
The first half of the book is super slow. It’s pretty much just Ethan brooding over becoming a vampire. And while he had legitimate reasons for being upset, I didn’t really care. Sofia is a former vampire loving goth who works as an assistant in an office. I wish it was explained why Sofia wasn’t in school, since she is only 19. In fact it seemed odd that she had the job she did, considering she wouldn’t have had the education or life/work experience to obtain the position either. What I also didn’t get was why their matchmaker thought they would make a cute couple. They had nothing in common. Especially since the plan was to have them meet before Ethan was turned. He was in his 20′s and a type A corporate type living in California, and she was a goth teenager in Arizona. I don’t see the connection. They did hit it off after they met. Of course there was a supernatural instant connection, but even without it considering where their lives ended up I could see them hooking up because of a lack of options for both of them. But to me it would’ve made more sense if their meeting was happenstance rather than planning.
The second half does pick up, and a real conflict is introduced. But for some reason I still found myself bored. I didn’t read either of the first two books in this series, and I don’t see myself continuing with the series either. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Ethan walked the dark streets of Morgan Creek. It had been two months since Rylan Saintcrow had turned Ethan after a different vampire had attacked him. If Saintcrow hadn’t turned Ethan he would have died. Ethan dd not want to be a vampire as he thought of them as bloodsucking monsters himself included. Ethan was still trying to wrap his mind around he had been turned. And all he had lost. He lost his whole way of life, as well as his job and the new promotion to Vice President in charge of Sales, his family, and his friends. Ethan had never liked horror movies, he had been afraid vampires were real- which they were and he was squeamish at the sight of blood. Ethan wasn’t made to be a vampire. Yet his cousin Holly had asked to be turned as her husband Micah was a vampire. Saintcrow was a master vampire. And he told Ethan he was leaving for Scotland. Saintcrow also said he had taught Ethan all he needed to know to survive the rest was up to Ethan. Ethan was now in what was a ghost town. Then Ethan remembered Holly telling him about Sofia who loved vampires and he texted Holly and asked for Sofia’s number. Sofia was Holly’s sister in law. Ethan finally called Sofia and they were to go out the next night to a movie. Ethan was very nervous about his date as the old Ethan was no more. And he still wasn’t sure who the new Ethan was. Sofia said she had been obsessed with vampires for awhile but then Luticia Braga attacked her family. Sofia had even asked her brother to change her but now she wasn’t so sure. Ethan kissed Sofia at the movie and he knew something special had happened. Sofia had also thought the kisses were magical. Sofia had never been attracted to a man before. Then Sofia wondered if it was some kind of vampire allure and Ethan assured her it wasn’t as she felt the same way. Ethan decided to revamp Morgan Creek into a resort and Saintcrow agrees to finance Ethan financially. But Ethan is lonely as he felt it better if he left Sofia alone but he wants Sofia and her blood calms him. Ethan doesn’t know if he wants to live and try to build a relationship with Sofia or let her go for good and end his vampiric life.
I liked this book, it was a good read but for me it just lacked something yet I am not exactly sure what. I did enjoy the action and danger. This did drag for me at times. Although I did like the plot. I liked how Ethan still had his humanity even though he felt he was a monster and wasn’t sure if he even wanted to live as a vampire. I was really happy Ethan had Saintcrow as his sire who was there to help and guide Ethan. I liked Sofia and Ethan together. This was also repetitive at times. I did like the twists in this story. I would have liked to rate this 3.5 So as you can see I had mixed feelings. But will probably try another book if I see it written by this author.
Ethan is a newly turned vampire who thinks he'll be alone for the rest of his long life because what woman in her right mind would want a relationship with a vampire, right? But his cousin knows a woman who likes vampires so he asks his cousin to find out if she'll agree to meet him.
Sofia knows how dangerous vampires can be since the guy she had been dating turned her over to his vampire master. She would have been his prey if another vampire hadn't saved her, but just like humans, not all vampires are bad so she agree's to meet with Ethan who was turned into a vampire against his will.
Because Ethan is a young vampire he doesn't have total control over his hunger and that causes a little bit of a problem between them but a bigger problem comes when Sofia witnesses Ethan kill another vampire when this vampire comes after them. Because Ethan was sired by a very old master vampire. Ethan is much stronger than other vampires his age.
Once things settle back down and Sofia and Ethan get back to getting to know one another Ethan asks Sofia to help him with a new business adventure he undertakes. This gives them a chance to get to know one another a bit better and we see Ethan's sire, Saintcrow a few times which was nice. I really like seeing how characters in this series are getting along.
Of course a good book needs a little drama, mystery and danger and this had that. A vampire that Saintcrow knew comes back into his life and makes waves for everyone.
I loved Ethan and Sofia, they just clicked together so well. Ethan is a total sweetheart, I felt bad that he was so sad and lonely after getting turned into a vampire. Meeting the right person has a way of blowing your life up, in a good way though.
"This isn't going to be easy, is it?" His eyes grew dark, intense. "Nothing worth fighting for ever is."
Rating: 3/5
Ethan was forced to be a vampire. He wouldn't wish this lifestyle on anyone and hates his life until he meets Sofia, who used to want to be a vampire herself. Not wanting to let his desire for her overrule his need for blood, he pushes her away but persistent as ever, Sofie stands her ground. Throw in a revenge-seeking old vamp and Sofie's and Ethan's happily ever after is put at risk.
- Characters -
Ethan was JUST made a vampire and ruled out ever finding love but then decides very quickly to fall in love with a young woman set up by his match-making cousin. I feel like he just "settled" - this was the first woman he's every been with since turning and it just happened to be his match?? Not very believable. Sofie was only 19 and still acted like it - she didn't mature much as the story dragged on. In fact, neither character really had much development at all. They remained stasis through everything and there were some great areas in the plot that could have developed them more.
- Setting/World -
Focused mainly in the old vampire refuge town of Morgan Creek which has now become a ghost town with literal ghosts. Part of the plot has Ethan and SaintCrow redeveloping the town to encourage tourism and to give Ethan a purpose. I like the aspect of their being a vamp out for revenge but there wasn't much action to support the initiative. The setting itself was okay - I wish more about the town and its history was included.
- Writing -
The writing was there but it also wasn't there. There was no *passion* in the conversations or scenes that I'd expect from a paranormal romance especially with vampires. It was simple and straightforward - no suspenseful foreshadowing or cliffhanging chapters that had me reading just one more.
This can be read as a standalone novel in the Morgan Creek series and even though I haven't read the first 2 novels, I don't feel like this one is one the same level as the others.
"Do you think I'm worth fighting for?" .... "Definitely."
It's been a while since I read a vampire story. I actually liked this and couldn't put it down. It's fun to see them be so human.
