This is a fast to love, fast to form lasting relationships kind of book. The character of Sophia is young and curious about the vampire lifestyle. Ethan was turned without his approval and has ambivalent feelings about being vampire. They learn and grow in their relationship together and with others. Ethan’s sire is helpful and nurturing in his own way. He is able to use his many years alive/undead to teach Ethan about the ways of the vampire.
I have a nostalgic love for Amanda Ashley books. They are some of the first vampire romances I ever read. Hidden away in a dusty used bookstore, back in the corner where the romance section lived. There was a tiny section that held paranormal romances and I bought and ate all of them up.
I loved her historical romances full of food descriptions, innocent virgins and broody wealthy vampires.
But I was 16, with no life experience. It's harder for me to read these books now. I still enjoyed most of this, it had a lot of the elements I love about her books, plus her voice really is amazing. No one writes quite like her.
What I now have a hard time with is the broody moody vampire who changes with the love of a beautiful, fresh-faced, innocent girl- who is almost always a virgin.
Sofia was the most annoying character and I had a hard time reading anything from her third person POV. She's indecisive, weak-willed and not interesting.
This book is filled with lame stereotypes about goth people, a 19-year-old girl getting into bars and being served liquor and enough coincidences to prove the author didn't want to think out her plot, just have everything fall nicely into the character's laps.
If you, like me, grew up reading these kinds of vampire romance novels then this might be a light, easy, quick read to remind you how it felt to first fall in love with vampires. If you're new to the genre back away...slowly.
I just could not get into this book. It felt more like a book written for a YA audience, and that's not what I was expecting. Couple that with the G-rated romance compared to the steamy cover, and it was disappointing. Expectations were set high and just not met, unfortunately. I couldn't connect with the characters, and the romance was bland.
Twilight desires by Amanda Ashley is the next book in the Morgan Creek Vampires. Sofie always wanted to be a vampire. Ethan is turning into a vampire and feels like he’s all alone. Ethans cousin introduces them and Sofie is unsure until she falls for Ethan. There are forces against them but help from a master vampire keeps them together. Great book from a wonderful author. Can’t wait for more! Action, adventure, romance. Cant put it down.
This is about a romance about a vampire Ethan who has to come to terms that he is in fact a vampire now, with out the consent and a human women Sofia.
The plot was slow, the characters were likable and the sex faded to black, and the some action sprinkled on top.
I am read Amanda Ashley over the time, and have come to like her writing it for me is either hit or miss, but this time it was in between. this is a book in a series, I would be interested to see what the first 2 are all about.
Twilight Desires is another amazing vampire romance/action book by Amanda Ashley. I have read and loved almost every book she has written and highly recommend starting at the beginning of the Morgan's Creek "series" before reading this one.
Sofia was always fascinated with vampires and always wanted to become one, until she could. A strong, independent young woman, her more recent experiences with the beings had left her questioning her wants and desires. Finally out on her own, that conflict came to the forefront when she agreed to go out with new vampire, and cousin of her new sister-in-law, Ethan.
Ethan is not quite the stereotypical unwilling vampire. Frustrated with the forced changes to his life (he did not turn by choice), Ethan's cousin hears the desperation in his voice and urges him to call Sofia.
Moragan's Creek becomes the center of action and adventure, just while Sofia and Ethan are trying to work through their personal and couple issues. Will they make it? Will the town survive? You have to read and find you...I will say, though, that it is worth the time to find out:-).
This is a take your breath away romance with an remarkable love story. I adore Amanda Ashley.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book via Netgalley.
This was a good read by Amanda Ashley. I've read some of her work in the past and enjoyed it. i'm not sure if it's just been so long since i've read her books or if this novel greatly deviated from the others. While the storyline was a fun paranormal read it tended to drag and feel a bit juvenile. I kept feeling a bit annoyed by the characters and wasn't really feeling the book. I also was mystified by some of the characters actions. Such as the fact that Ethan disappears from his old life for most of the book with no explanation and then just call up his parent's out of the blue to tell them he's getting married. i get that they weren't close but i think they would probably notice him completely missing. I enjoyed the second half of the novel much more than the first half which seemed to drag. overall i might try reading one of the previous novels by Ms. Ashley before i come back to these later novels, because based on this one i'm just not feeling their pitch and flow. Overall it was a fun read, but not my particularly cup of tea as far as the content was considered.
3.5 stars
Very sweet G-rated PNR. The dynamics of the story are sweet but slightly lacking... there was just not a full thought beginning to end, it was a tad boring at times.
Sadly Twilight Desires and myself didn’t get on particularly great which I totally take responsibility for as it was a case of it’s-not-you-it’s-me and is in no way a reflection of the author’s writing. It all boils down to the fact that this felt more of a YA feel read which isn’t a genre I gel well with, along with the fact it is everything between Sophia and Ethan was very insta. Definitely one I’d recommend checking out for yourself,
Sofia Ravenwood is a young woman who has been intrigued by vampires ever since she was a kid. But, when a vampire attacked her family, she vowed that she would never deal with them again. That was until she saw Ethan Parrish for the first time. Ethan loved his life when he was a human. He had so many opportunities, and was looking forward to his future. When he decided to attend a wedding, he was attacked and turned into a vampire against his will. He lived a lonely life until he met Sofia. These two wayward hearts are drawn together not knowing that an inexplicable evil lurks just around the corner.
This was a fast paranormal read. Sofia came off as an intelligent woman who understood that true love meant you needed a commitment to forge a future. Ethan is a flawed hero trying to find his place. He has a great heart and feels the need to protect the ones he loves. I also felt that he was a little conflicted with some of his decisions. In one chapter, he wanted to be with Sofia. The next chapter, Ethan decides to leave her for her own good. This happened more than once in the story. I felt that it was too repetitive. He would have been a stronger character if he was more decisive. The plot was action packed and filled with intriguing twists that upped the suspense, and made me turn the pages hoping for a happy ending. I got it! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.
Well where do I start..I would say my new favorite paranormal vampire romance. The story line was just amazing, characters were perfect, i would change a thing. I literally could not put this book down. It is written in a way that keeps you so completely into the book you just cant stop readying. It is a fast paced read, and if you enjoy vampire romances, i would defiantly suggest it.
Vampires rambling around the countryside of Wyoming? Sure why not! I can't say I've ever seen a shifter-romance quite like this one, so fans of sultry paranormals with a bit of a different bent due to its contemporary Western setting will suck this one up. Like BLOOD. See what I did there?
Ethan Parrish was reluctantly turned into a vampire in order to save his life. He remains very conflicted about whether he wants that life to continue. Sofia Ravenwood has always been intrigued and fascinated by vampires. Her beloved brother has recently revealed his own vampire secrets. She is quite drawn to Ethan, but the reality of loving a vampire does not quite match up with the fantasy. Sofia is very young, only nineteen, and the baby of a large, loving family. They have accepted her brother, Micah’s vampirism, but Sofie fears her own involvement with Ethan will be seen as something else.
Sofie and Ethan have a complicated relationship where each one at times backs off agonizing over whether it is the right thing for them to be together. Another vampire is interested in Sofie so Ethan must step up to protect her from others beside himself. They come to love each other, but is that love enough to outweigh all the obstacles?
This story reads like a YA with very clean, closed door love scenes despite what the cover might lead the reader to believe. Possibly because of Sofie’s age, it will appeal either to a younger audience or someone who prefers this style of writing. There are action and a danger elements providing much of the story arc to balance some of the angst driven plot. This is book three in the Morgan Creek series, but can be read as a standalone.
If you read paranormal romance…vampire romance in particular; then you know Amanda Ashley is one of the best, when it comes to sensual, intriguing plots, with strong males that will make you swoon. Well, in her latest title in the genre of paranormal romance she brings us Twilight Desires.
Though this book was good it wasn’t great. In my opinion, this book was geared towards the young adult….18+ whose just now finding the world of paranormal. The only take away about this book was the character, Ethan. He whined more than your average girl. Okay, we get that he didn’t want to be a nightwalker; but you know what I say to that. “It beats being dead” Thank goodness, he found someone like Sofia, though young, she was very mature for her age. She had plenty of issues herself, didn’t let those issues interfere in living her life.
Twilight Desires was a fast-paced read, and if you can get past the male character whining, then your home free to a good romance.
Ethan was attacked by a vampire and almost killed so a master vampire turned him to save his life. Ethan isn't happy about being a vampire but when his relationship with human Sofia becomes serious he starts to embrace his new life. Unfortunately there is a vampire with revenge on his mind that is trying to destroy Ethan and take Sofia for his own. Enjoyable paranormal romance.
I received and ARC copy of this book for free from Netgally in exchange for an honest review. All views and opinions are my own.
Amanda Ashley is arguably one of the great vampire romance authors of the world. Her books are amazing and never Dailey to draw the reader into her amazing world. That being said, the Morgan Creek books were never my favorite. The town where the vampires and humans we're both captive never felt right. The second book, Micah and Holly's book however was amazing. So amazing that I have been waiting for the next installment forever. This is the third book and follows Sofia (Micah's sister) and Ethan (Holly's cousin). As you can see the book should be read after the other in the series to get the full enjoyment out of the book.
Sofia's changed alot. She used to be a goth and full of teenage drama and angst. Something changed in her life to push her to give that up. She now knows about the things that go bump in the night.
Ethan has a lot of... legitimate issues he's dealing with. Although he used to believe in vampires when he's younger he never truly wanted to be one. Now that he is.. well it's causing him alot of pain. Together Ethan and Sofia find a way to be happy together.
The book is full of the heartwarming romance Amanda Ashley is known for as well as the hot and sexy scenes. You get adventure, evil vampires and witches. What more could you ask for.
With this book the author returns to Morgan Creek the town that Rylan Saintcrow ran as a sanctuary for vampires. He has long since broken up the community of both predators and prey that resided there but as the story begins he is leaving behind Ethan the human he recently sired in order to save his life.
To say Ethan is a reluctant vampire is putting it mildly and he really has no idea what he wants to do with this new and much darker life that stands before him. Remembering his cousin and the friend she thought he should get to know Ethan gets the phone number of Sofia who until recently wanted to embrace all things that go bump in the night . Sofia might be young but with the confidence of youth ( plus a handy stake ! ) she’s curious enough to meet this reluctant fledgling vampire but when they touch there’s a spark that borders on magical but is it enough to make Ethan want to live ?
I’ve previously enjoyed this authors earlier work with its almost gothic undertones so found this story to be quite different. If frank I’m a little nonplussed as it wasn’t exactly what I expected. Saintcrow whilst previously apparently pretty nasty is now all sweetness ( well almost ! ) due to finding love and is turning out to be a regular Savior in this story. Ethan of course is the hero here but for this reader he was terribly overshadowed by Saintcrow . Sofia already knows that vampires are real but to me she just felt very one dimensional and just didn’t capture my interest.
There is action and danger within this book so it’s not all angst and navel gazing but alas the romance really didn’t wow me. Perhaps if I’d realised it would feel more modern with a couple that were never going to push the boundaries of passion I would have enjoyed it more but unfortunately as I’d expected a chemistry driven gothic type story it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I think upon reflection that the YA type characters are what didn’t work for me and I obviously prefer much more dominant and fierce male heroes but that’s me and I’m sure that there will be plenty of readers who enjoy this as it was an interesting story.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
