Dagger's Edge is an excellent read! As a fan of Lora Leigh and having read most of her other novels, everything about this novel was excellent. I also think it could be read as a standalone novel if you haven't read anything previous to this new series, in which this is book two. But it is a MUCH better read if you have knowledge of previous character that frequently pop-up in this novel!
Readers met Ivan and Syn in the previous novel of the Brute Force series, Collision Point. And now they get their own story! I really liked their strong attraction that they both fight for their own reasons and Lora Leigh delivers with her explicit love scenes.
Ivan and Syn play a cat and mouse game in the beginning of this book. It takes a moment, but Ivan figures out who Syn really is. Syn gives into a moment of need and then takes off running again. Ivan knows he wants more of Syn and he sets about making it happen. Their push/pull goes on throughout their story and it was quite effective. Ivan gets Syn to agree to his protection and she demands a fairy tale from him. Which one of them is lying to the other though? You will have to read the book to find out.
I will say that Ivan surprised me a lot in this book. He was able to work through foreign feelings and come up with answers that both projected his agenda forward but protected Syn also. Syn's inability to trust was well earned but she did seem to miss some glaring clues as to Ivan's willingness to give her what she wanted.
Both were betrayed by people close to them and it added quite a bit of mystery to the book. I found of entertaining and it held the right note of mystery and suspense to make it intriguing and not just another romance with a bit of drama added in.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
The author takes you on a convoluted adventure ride, and draws the readers right into the story. As always Lora Leigh is a master story teller with sex scenes hot enough to leave scorch marks on your e-reader. She draws her characters with a fine hand and makes you care what happens to them. I look forward to future books in this series.
A tense and sexy read with a lot of twists and turns. At times the twist felt a little overly complicated and the repetition of how evil the villains were felt a little forced. Still, the romance between Ivan and Journey was well crafted and they worked well together as a couple. Strong chemistry.
The setup for the next book was mysterious enough to draw me in.
Overall a great read that had me finish in just one sitting. Solid 3.5
Dagger's Edge by Lora Leigh is one hell of a romantic suspense novel. Dark and intense like J.T. Ellison's books yet hot and steamy like that of Lynsay Sands's books. I could not tear my eyes away from this read. It was so intense, dark, and sexy. The characters were on edge constantly. Danger hung in the air on every page. One pair also had to battle their raw lust and love for each other until it exploded. Their lives were at risk and the depth to which they went to stay alive was amazing. Lora Leigh did not disappoint. Her words created vivid scenes and plenty of action to keep myself entertained. Overall, I highly recommend this epic romance to all.
OUTSTANDING...SUSPENSEFUL...INCREDIBLE! I have read all of Lora Leigh's Navy Seal's and Elite Op's Books, Brute Force and this has to be one of the best! I love the intense angst that Ivan and Journey have - he knows so much about her, but there are somethings he doesn't know and unless you really pay attention when you are reading the book you will pick that up too. This book is simply incredible I can't wait until it hit's bookshelves everywhere! Lora Leigh deserves any and all accolades she receives for this book. If you haven't read the Series listed above that are intertwined by all means please do the are exciting, suspenseful and won't disappoint.
I just could not get into this book. Reading the description, I was really excited to sit down and read it but it fell a bit flat for me. It is the second book in the Brute Force series and I didn't feel like I was missing anything not having read the first one. The beginning was a bit confusing but I got the characters figured out and was expecting a good, fast paced story.
Ivan is determined to keep Journey/Syn safe. Even if he has to kidnap her...twice. The story itself was ok, very predictable but not bad. The idea of the two of them actually falling in love was a bit out there as was some of the things described that were just never mentioned again. It seemed like there was more time devoted to the sex scenes than the actual storyline and I found myself skimming it.
It was a 2/5 for me.
**18+ Definitely for older readers**
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above were 100% mine.
Friend or foe? Journey assumed a new identity to remain hidden from her family. But after she tried to help a friend, she finds herself in the home of someone she believes may want to kill her more than her family if he figures out who she is. She decides that it's better for her to leave than stay and take that chance.
Ivan knows that the woman calling herself Crimsyn is really Journey Taite, the daughter of his most hated enemy. But as in the past when he's seen her, there is an attraction that he can't explain. So instead of hurting or killing her like she thinks he wants to do, he finds himself wanting to act on that attraction. When she runs from him, he's determined to get her back. And he's not the only one looking for her.
Suspense, action, and maybe a surprise to two.
This one wasn't for me. I struggled with the writing style and I had some considerable difficulty following the storyline. The characters were not likable nor were they in my opinion, full developed. The dialogue, both internal and external was awkward and unrealistic. I felt like I was reading a romance decades old.
Journey Taite has come of age and is learning the hard truth about her family. Her father, grandfather and chosen future husband are a part of a ruthless mob. She wants nothing to do with them and taking advantage of a terrifying night which puts her father and grandfather in jail, she disappears. Flash forward, Journey has made friends with Amara Resnova and come to the attention of Amara's father, Ivan, a man Journey has been intrigued with since she was asked to dance by him when she was a teenager. As Journey prepares to flee for her life, Ivan offers her a chance to exact his revenge on her family and she can rid herself of her family's history.
The action in this book is fast paced and suspense builds throughout, only right when the plot thickens it's interrupted by sex. Ivan and Journey have chemistry, almost a little too much and it hinders the reader from becoming emotionally attached to the main characters.
Crimsyn left her former life of privilege and royalty-adjacent when she became aware of her father and grandfathers lack of humanity and entrenchment in human trafficking, especially as she realised she was one of the upper crust girls they bought and sold.
She wanted to run the very man her young heart dreamt of but her family had caused so much tragedy in his own that she ran and never looked back. When she found herself working with his daughter, she thought she had found salvation. But Amara was just niceness personified and she couldn't user her friend to gain access to her father. But when she and Amara were kidnapped later found by Ivan, she did the unthinkable and fell for him!
Ivan is used to showing the world the tough, crime boss façade he has very carefully cultivated. Amara has always been his one weak point. Until he found Syn. When she runs from him he is determined to find her again. Just as well because just as he scoops her up another team arrived to kill her!
Crimsyn AKA Journey is naïve of her nefarious family's dealings but I was glad that she had the backbone to stand up to them and flee. She wants them to rot and the frankly need to be locked in the nearest deep, deep dark hole! I always felt a bit skeezy when there is a huge gap between the main characters, but I managed to keep in mind that Ivan became a father to Amara at such a young age, against his will, that he was a victim as much as the trafficked girls Journey's family traded in. He is macho to the core and I loved him!
Ilya again is the solid, imposing friend in the shadows. I almost keeled over when I found out more about his family! Elizaveta is her usual dangerous self.
I really need lots more books in this series!
5 STARSPLUS***** PHENOMINALLLLLLL!!!!!! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "DAGGER'S EDGE" What a phenominal storyline a rollercoaster ride of emotion, suspense, intrigue, danger, kidnapping, torture, deceipt, lies, murder, rape, hot steamy erotic sex scenes, you just can't put this exceptionally well written book down the characters are very developed some likeable some not. The chemistry between Ivan Resnova and Journey Taite is off the charts scorching hot what a journey they take you in absolutely loved every minute of this story couldn't put this book down right from the first page this book had you page after page pulled you in and wouldn't let go until completely finished reading, I definitely recommend to get this fantastic book you so won't be disappointed Lora Leigh did another exceptional job writing this book. I have alot of Lora Leigh's series " THE BREEDS", "BRUTE FORCE", "THE CALLAHANS", "ELITE OPS" " BOUND HEARTS", " MAN OF SUMMER", These are just a few if your interested they are all amazing reads I have all the paperbacks so I can read over and over.
I read everything from Lora Leigh. Her books always have great plot twists. I always spend the whole time trying to figure out what will happen. I loved Ivan and Syn. Their story was so addicting. I was kept guessing the entire book. I have to say that these characters were super hot together. I find myself having to fan myself. I'm interested in seeing where this series goes from here.
Dagger’s Edge is the second book in Lora Leigh’s Brute Force series. But a spinoff, on her Elite Ops series.
I relished in this installment of the Brute Force series. Though it’s only book #2, in my opinion, this was the best installment. It had everything that a reader of romantic suspense come to love about reading this genre. And to top it off, the male character has no shame. Ivan Resnova knows what he is, and doesn’t apologize for it. When he was first introduced in Collision Point he was this robust, secure, forceful male that took charge. That I must say carried over into his own story. Which I greatly appreciate that Lora Leigh didn’t downplay on. The same goes for Crimsyn “Syn” Delaney, she was the female version of Ivan, which made for intriguing happenstances. Both character suited each other perfectly. Being hard as nails was a requirement.
I felt bad for both Ivan & Crimsyn… the male members in their family took the word “Dysfunctional” and made it a Royal title. But then again, their whole entire life was a WTF moment. From having a first child at age 13 to finding out your father and grandfather were kingpins in human trafficking. To learn that your whole life was built on a lie.
There were so many WTF moments in Dagger’s Edge, that by the end of the book you will be saying WTH.
Nevertheless, come this fall if you’re looking to add titles to your bookshelf or eBook reader, make sure to leave room for Dagger’s Edge, a fast paced, action filled love story…you’ll be glad you did.
I am a fan of Lora Leigh's books and have pretty much read them all. I have noticed a rather negative trend though, all her latest books are getting very repetitive and the quality has just dropped a ton. "Dagger's Edge" is not horrible, but it's not great either. The magic that was in her earlier books, even books similar to this one, is just missing. The story feels rushed and incomplete to me. It is hard to follow the different characters and to have any idea what is actually going on. The sex scenes were ok, but they too had the same lines repeated again and again. I got this copy for free and I'm grateful because I would have been very sad to have purchased this for my library feeling the way I do about it. I hope Ms. Leigh can find the magic again and improve further books and the rest of this series.
Loved reading the engaging and captivating second book in the Brute Force series. When Journey finds out the criminal activity her father and grandfather are involved in, she runs for her life. While in hiding and helping Ivan’s daughter, Journey hopes Ivan doesn’t discover her true identity. Read the highly recommended and wonderfully written romance full of mystery, action, and intrigue.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
Lora Leigh did her usual outstanding job on this book !
Dagger's Edge is the second book in the Brute Force series, and folks, this one was loaded with action, suspense, and passion. The author captivated my entire attention with Ivan and Journey's story. At heart it was a classic love story where love conquers all else. Let me tell you that this couple had a lot of conflict to overcome. There was a deadly feud, passion, betrayal, and of course, a big mystery to be solved before Ivan and Journey could have their happy ever after. There was a lot of internal conflict with turmoil, as well. Journey's greedy family was especially twisted, but Ivan definitely wasn't a man to be crossed. I love Lora Leigh's alpha heroes, so although I wasn't real keen on Ivan in the beginning, he ended up being an awesome hero.
Lora Leigh is an amazing author who never lets her readers down. So Dagger's Edge was a super great book that I couldn't put down. I loved it, and can't wait for the next book.
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book, I have been reading Lora Leigh's books for a couple of years and I am always amazed by them, but Dagger's Edge was just amazing! Ivan and Syn are just such wonderful and complex characters, they are two people who have seen the worst of people and they have managed to stay strong, but in each other, they are finding what they both so desperately need.
Ivan is strong and sexy and he has had his eye on Syn for many years while trying to find a way to bring Syn's father and grandfather down as they have been responsible for much of his families suffering. Syn has been crazy about Ivan since she met him at the age of 16, but now she is on the run and while she desires Ivan she is afraid to trust him, as a result, of the hater he holds for her family, but the desire that they feel and the feelings that they can not deny will lead them to many surprises and a wonderful ending if Ivan can stop does intend on harming Syn.
This was such an amazing story full of romance, sexy scenes and an amazing love story, that I could not put down till the very last page!
I didn't really care for this book unfortunately. I agree with some of the other reviewers who felt it was not even written by Lora Leigh. I will not post my reviews anywhere but here because I really do not like to do that. I am usually very happy with this author's books, just not this time.
Thank you for the ARC though.
Received an ARC for an honest review
Hmmm...I am having a hard time reviewing this book, as I am a huge fan of Lora Leigh's, but not at all of this one. There was not really a solid plot, it was hard to follow, unrealistic, and confusing. I had to go back several times and re-read paragraphs to try to understand what was going on.
